      Dubrovnik - Hvar

Das will etwas heissen!

      Split to Hvar

      3 de octubre de 2023, Croacia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

      Distance: 46 km. Total elevation: 650 m

Ferry to Stari Grad on the island of Hvar, then a figure 8 route across the length of the island, finishing in the beautiful 13th century port town of Hvar.

Stunning day - followed the road that hugged the coastline from Stari Grad to the pretty towns of Otok and Jesla right on the water. Then past olive groves, grape vines and shaded pine plantations. Then a superb 10km climb with a steady 6% gradient but with a kicker at the end.

A swim off the beach (warmest water yet), then pizza & red wine was a fitting end to an excellent day.

      Hvar part 2

      14 de junio de 2023, Croacia ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

So, after climbing up to the fort and thinking I had missed my ferry, I walked along the boulevard and then found a bench to sit on. And sit on. And sit on. Next ferry was in five hours. Yes, five. Of course I forgot to bring my book. Then I walked some more and saw my ferry on the other side, pulling away. How did that happen? Because I’m an idiot and didn’t compute the correct 24 hour time.

So I spent five hours just sitting and watching. Judged everyone that walked past me. 😂 here’s the lowdown:

Fave shoe is a Birkenstock. Most everyone was below the age of 30. Mostly women. It felt like a Carnival Cruise port. LP says the island is where the cashed meet the trashed. Let’s just say I saw no cashed. But I did see a bride, and that was kinda cool.

      Hvar

      14 de junio de 2023, Croacia ⋅ ☁️ 75 °F

Well, what a weird day it’s been.

I took the “fast ferry” to the island of Hvar, an hours ride from Split, and gotta say, I wasn’t too impressed. It’s a quaint little town, but not much going on. Enough places to eat, but not many shops or other things to explore.

I walked up to the fort just before a light rain began, then made my way back down to town.

Did I mention that it’s steep AF?

Korčula —> Hvar (Sail Day 3)

      10 de agosto de 2023, Croacia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

We had a very chilled day on the boat today and got to the town of Hvar at around 11am. Due to port rules, we weren’t allowed to dock in the harbour until around 7pm so we stayed in the bay and were swimming and chilling all day. We enjoyed jumping off the top of the boat, chilling on floaties in the ocean, enjoying a yummy lunch of fish, playing cards and other games and relaxed on the deck.

We then disembarked around 7 and walked across to see the sunset at the point which was absolutely stunning! We enjoyed a couple of drinks before making our way back to the boat, stopping for pizza on the way and hanging out with some of the other tour people.

We returned to the boat with Nicky and Alex for some after dinner drinks as well as enjoying a surprise drone show from the top deck to celebrate the launch of a soon to be opened theme park. It was very cool! After a couple of big nights partying we decided to stay on the boat and chill out and enjoyed some drinks together and hanging out!

Bad nights sleep in rocky bay Bakarik bay next to Hula. Not secluded enough. Went for an amazing run to the castle. Left for Vis midday and had an exceptional sail. Wind 26k at one stage. Moored in little bay Uvala Ruda in big gust winds. Successful mooring- happy with our progress. GD holds really well in swells.Leer más

      Hvar, Croatia (Days 1 & 2)

      16 de septiembre de 2023, Croacia ⋅ 🌩️ 79 °F

      What we did:
      - Early wake up to catch our 6am - 10:30am ferry from Dubrovnik to Hvar Island.
      - Super impressed and excited once we got there! Hvar downtown is a unique looking town nestled in the hills with stunning views of the greenish/blue water around it, and exceptionally clean. Caribbean vibes but much nicer!
      - Hung at the Hvar Beach Club on our oceanfront lounge chairs from 11 - 6. Great relaxing day alternating between reading, jumping in the water, drinking croatian beers and just relaxing. This is the good life! Felt like an all-inclusive minus the all-inclusive $$ part. Another instance of the fantastic Croatian service we have been receiving since arriving in the country.
      - Enjoyed the sunset on our Airbnb patio and then wandered around the lit up Saturday night party town (even in offseason) before enjoying dinner in a quaint alleyways
      - Slept in and then met our captain for our 10:30 - 6pm speed boat. We just can’t get enough of being on the water; boats >>>. Incredibly relaxing and fun day bouncing around the islands and different beaches with 8 total swim stops. Also pulled up to a picturesque cabana lunch spot midday for fresh caught seafood. Favorite stop included a very small sandy beach since most of the beaches on the coast are rocky. All in all great day!
      - Debriefed on the day over a dinner of burgers at a cool bar bumping nostalgic 2000’s rap. Trent was greedily formulating plots to convince his friends to come here for his bachelor party

      Where we ate:
      - 1st day Lunch oceanside at our Hvar Beach Club. Tough commute from our lounge chairs over to the gazebo to enjoy our Croatian/asian fusion burrito and chicken satay. Broke down and had a lounge chair snack of fries (so much for our goal of limited drinking and no fries on this trip)
      - 1st day Dinner at Fig Hvar. Alleyway tables serving Mexican style burritos for both of us. So good and a much needed palette refresh of new spices after so much seafood (such a first world problem and a bit blasphemous to even say)
      - Eggs and coffee at the apartment for both breakfasts
      - 2nd day lunch at Bacchus (only accessible by boat) for caprese salad, fresh caught red snapper and seafood pasta. Needed a last taste of oceanside seafood!
      - 2nd day dinner at Lola Bar for good burgers and fries! Needed something lighter after gorging at lunch

      Fun facts:
      - We saw dolphins AND flying dish during our boat day. Truly magical!
      - WE DON’T WANT THIS TRIP TO EVER END. Sorry family and friends, once StephSnaps goes viral we are retiring to a nomad travel lifestyle and will live off the social media clout. Brains are permanently on “out of office” and we couldn’t even do accounting or tech consulting if we tried right now.
      - Hvar is one of the central stops for the now world renowned “Croatian yacht week” where thousands of 20 year olds drop $7-$10k on renting beds in a caravan of 50+ yachts. You basically sign up and the company assigns everyone to boats and you just party for 7 straight days. Most of the time is actually spent docked vs sailing.
      - The bar Carpe Diem is open from 1am to 5am every night and is only accessible by a 10 minute water taxi from Hvar town.
