      Rustdag!

      Heerlijk. Eindelijk de 1e rustdag te pakken. 🥳 Uitslapen tot 10 uur, ontbijten om 11 uur, Thaise massage om 13 uur. Dit zijn pas vakantietijden! Om 15 uur zijn wij wakker geschrokken uit een coma en de massagesalon uitgestuurd. Net op tijd om de trein en de taxi te pakken naar Montmartre om onze goede vrienden Joris, Annemarie, Tijl & Len te ontmoeten. Wat een gezellige avond hebben wij gehad zeg! Op dit moment met de bus (de treinen reden helaas niet meer) in een halve coma richting Chelles vervoerd. Ondanks de te verwachte kater van zometeen hebben wij er weer zin in om lekker te fietsen door alles wat Frankrijk te bieden heeft. Bonne soirėe er bonne nuit. 😘Les mer

      Day 0 - St Jean Pied de Port, France

      Minneapolis to Paris to Barriatz to St Jean Pied de Port, my starting point. After going to the Pilgrim’s Office to get my credentials, maps and weather/safety instructions for Day 1 and checking in to my albergue, I had just enough time to take a quick walk around the old town (where I stayed) and see the Ingles de Notre Dame du Pont. Grabbed crepes for dinner and then prepped for tomorrow. People were asleep by 8 already, so it was an early night.Les mer

      Trier 🚗 Paris

      Gegen 15 Uhr machten wir uns auf, aus dem Trierer Dauerregen gen Paris. Auf dem Weg dorthin Regen, Stau, Regen, Stau, Umleitungen durch irgendwelche 30er-Zonen dank Google Maps und so waren wir echt froh, als wir dann gegen 20:30 unser Hotel am Flughafen Charles de Gaulle erreichten. Nur noch schnell unser Auto parken… so zumindest der Plan. Leider war es dann so, dass dank fehlender Adresse und nicht erreichbarer Hotline des Parkplatzes das Abstellen leider nicht klappte. Morgen nun also der nächste Versuch, beim Terminal 2 werden wir den Silberpfeil dann für die nächsten zwei Wochen in die Hände eines Mitarbeiters des ominösen Langzeitparkplatzes Blue Valet übergeben (so der Plan 🙃).Les mer

      Foie gras

      We flew in business class (Delta points cashed in wooo) on Air France from New York to Paris overnight. I love business class. You can lie down. There are frequent glasses of decent French wines handed to you. And the entree includes foie gras.

      I don’t want to get into how foie gras is made. That’s extremely cruel and you can read about how terrible it is on PETA’s website. But the culinary art of stuffing ducks and geese with food to enlarge their liver and eat that as a delicacy is actually thousands of years old. As early as 2500 BC, the ancient Egyptians learned that many birds could be fattened through forced overfeeding and began this practice.

      Anyways I digress. I happily ate the foie gras and sipped my Champagne and managed to get an hour of real sleep.

      That flight ended many hours ago but I am still experiencing the foie gras. It is sitting in my stomach like a rock. Like a little passenger who is there reminding me of how stupid I was to eat it.

      Now we are preparing to take off to Delhi, and I am worried about what curry and foie gras might be like together in my stomach and how that is going to feel in 12 hours.

      They have it on the menu on this flight but I am going to pass this time. Lesson learned.      Les mer

      Still in Paris lockdown

      Got a call this morning saying they will be here tomorrow morning between 8:00am and 9:00am to do a throat swab. Supposedly within an hour or so we should have the verdict. Dum de de dum…Our immediate future hangs on the tip of a Q-tip. I am still battling my sinus infection but pressure and pain has lessened but still going through a box of tissues and taking some interesting cough syrup they bought for me. We should have been visiting Versailles today. Boo hoo. But as it turns out being sick has changed my perspective on my trip. Except for 2007 when I had a collapsed vertebra, I have always been very healthy during all my travels. So I shan’t weep and realize how blessed I’ve been and continue to be and look forward to going home and getting well.
      I decided to explore my view and discovered a nice little shrub rose bush outside my window. I’ve been watching the BBC’s coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show so even though this little bush wouldn’t make it into that august event, it is appreciated by me. So until tomorrow, prisoner 174 (room number) signing off.      Les mer

      Boring room

      So here we are in our second day of isolation in the most boring room in Paris. There is literally a village of modern hotels built near the Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. Two things make it bearable, the BBC which is the only English language game in town and the fact that I’m so miserable with this sinus infection that rest is all I want to do. I spoke with a Viking representative this afternoon and to boil down all that she said is that we are in the Bastille until they say otherwise. So we wait until Tuesday to be tested again to learn our fate. Joseph is hanging in there reading mostly and trying not to say that his wife is an idiot for getting Covid. If he tests negative on Tuesday and I don’t he will head home. I truly hope he doesn’t get this worthless omicron. I received many concerning messages and thank you all. Please keep us in your prayers and I’ll keep you posted.Les mer

      Die Nacht war kurz... 4 Uhr aufstehen um dem Jet lag entgegen zu wirken 😒

      Kurze Reise nach Frankreich und einen sehr verwirrenden Weg später endlich in der Lounge angekommen (Danke Daniels Vielfliegermeilen 😀).

      Jetzt erst mal kostenloses essen & trinken geniessen und mental auf den großen Flug einstimmen ✈️

      Camping Paris Est

      Um 6:00 Uhr tat der Wecker mal wieder ganze Arbeit. Die Vorfreude spülte die Müdigkeit jedoch ins Kielwasser. Ruckzuck waren die letzten Utensilien in Bulli und Wohnwagen verstaut und ich saß, wir verabredet, um 7:00 Uhr hinterm Steuer. Hmmm..., denke ich, ziemlich leer hier! Klar..., Petra kontrollierte sich mal wieder immer selbst, bis sie schließlich um 07:45 Uhr den Weg auf den Beifahrersitz fand. So kenne ich es schließlich seit beinahe 40 Jahren. Am Ende hat sie jedoch immer alles dabei und ich die Hälfte liegen gelassen. Eine von mir durchgeführte Abschlusskontrolle beinhaltet nur Petra, Kreditkarte, Perso und Autoschlüssel.
      Jetzt kann es losgehen. Die Sonne zwingt mir die Sonnenbrille auf und ab gehts zu unserer Lieblingstanke, um Kaffee und belegt Brötchen zu bunkern. Man kennt uns und wünscht eine gute Reise. Apropos gute Reise, ein gute Fee hat über Nacht einen gehäkelten Glücksbringer an unseren Außenspiegel gehängt. Unbekannte Glücksfee, vielen Dank. Wir werden ihn in Ehren halten.
      Nach einer lockeren Fahrt erreichen wir um 16:00 Uhr das erste Etappenziel Paris. Der Tag wird mit leckeren Sauerbraten beendet. Also..., nur sauer ohne Braten. Den hat Petra vergessen. Eins zu Null für mich.      Les mer

      I appear to have run into a character limit in the middle of the night post last night. That limit may now be gone.

      It’s our first morning in France, with a very traditional French breakfast.

      Good morning to all and thank you for following us. I had been attempting to follow-up on each and every follow and message—but that has quickly become too much! So many kind followers and so many wonderful comments and likes! Thank you all and forgive me if I don’t respond to everything.

      Had some Internet issues yesterday but those should be resolved now. (Had my VPN set to prefer Seattle, WA which was conflicting with local connections! Doh on me!)      Les mer
