      Bergwertung gewonnen

      Ich habe die heutige Bergwertung meiner Tour de France gewonnen. Als Belohnung trage ich nun das rot gepunktete Trikot. Ich hab mich auf der Strecke schon mal warm gefahren für die größte Herausforderung, die mir noch bevorsteht. Bin in der Auvergne, nicht weit von Le Puy-en-Velay - der "Hauptstadt" der berühmten Puy-Linsen. Nachdem ich getankt hatte, blieb ich stehen und suchte mir in der Nähe ein Hotel.       🇫🇷🚴🥶Cold➡️Climbs➡️Cantal 🥶🚴‍♀️🇫🇷

      5:25 / 64 miles / 6,542 ft. Saignes, France (The Cantal District) The 9th day of cold, mist, fog, and not the stunning blue skies we were expecting for September in France. Left our Warmshower host at about 9 AM. We knew we had a tough day ahead of us and the cold and misty weather was not going to make it any easier.
      A traditional breakfast of toast and various spreads along with a bowl of coffee to dip it in, got a little warmth in our bellies before we left. Right out of the driveway without any warm-up, we had a 9.6 mile climb of an average gradient of 5.4%. At least finishing this climb would knock off about 1/3 of our climbing for the day. We battled with staying warm, and not getting too sweaty. At one time I was wearing six layers of clothing as we were coming down from the pass and I could still feel the cold air cutting through them. Again, we took refuge in a cathedral from the elements, as we ate a couple of bananas and sipped on a Coke. This was to be one of our more beautiful days as far as scenery goes, but the foggy weather blocked out the stunning views we were hoping for. We did not see the Puy de Mary (an inactive volcano) today, which is the highest point in the Cantal district. Although we did not have the stunning views of the mountains and valleys, we still enjoyed the historical churches, the stone houses, and the fresh air of the mountains. The romanesque basilica of Orcival was amazing, and we chatted with another bicycle tourist as we enjoyed the historical village. With all of the difficult riding, we were worried that we would not make it to our Warmshower host before 7 PM. Luckily, we had tailwinds that pushed us along and we reached Saignes, FR at about 5:15 PM. We found a place near the center of the village next to the centrally located church and had a beer. We reached out to Hugo, our Warmshower host, and within one minute he was joining us. We had an absolutely wonderful night at Hugo’s house. See the post titled “Hugo.”      Read more

      Pause bis morgen

      Durch die Occitanie, in die westlichen Auvergne Rhône Alpen führte uns der heutige Weg. Dann, wir wären ja auch nicht wir, noch verfahren und dies nicht günstig bezahlt. Das Navi sagt rechts halten, was tun wir?? 🥴Links halten 🙄 so kamen wir in den Genuss, ohne Chance auf umdrehen, über eine große schicke Brücke nochmals 20 km in die falsche Richtung zu tuckern. So haben wir Millau zweimal gesehen. Einmal im Pieselregen und einmal bewölkt. Ach ja.. Und sie haben beim zweiten Mal den Verkehr per Ampelschaltung geregelt. Also: im Stau stehen 🥴. Begleitet von niedrig schwankenden Temperaturen um 1 Grad und fast andauerndem Regen sind wir hier am netten Stellplatz angekommen. Kurze Regenpause, bis es gleich wohl wieder... Äh nee... Jetzt wieder weiter geht! Das Auto ist gewaschen, die Chipstüte leer. 16,30 Euro teuer war die Brücke. 🙄 Wir nehmen es mit Humor. Fahren wir doch sonst fast immer mautfrei.
      Ob die Gegend schön ist? Keine Ahnung. Die Sicht war bei Schnee und (... hab' ich es schon erwähnt???) Dauerregen grottig. Schemenhaft war die Landschaft zu erkennen. Heisst: wir müssen nochmal hier her. 😏      Read more

      Issoire in der Auvergne

      380 Kilometer juckeln wir heute gemütlich und fast immer mit Sonnenschein über französische Nationalstraßen.
      „Une Baguette et deux Croissants s‘il voux plaît“ waren heute meine ersten französischen Worte in der kleinen Boulongerie. Das muss in Frankreich einfach sein. So lecker das Ganze! Wir frühstücken unterwegs mit Genuss!
      Die Stadt Issoire unterhalb von Clermont Ferrand wartet mit einem kostenfreien Übernachtungsplatz auf uns.
      Der Stellplatz mit Ver- und Entsorgung liegt in einer ruhigen Wohngegend. Direkt nebenan ein Supermarkt und Waschmaschinen. Die sympathische Altstadt mit kleiner Fußgängerzone, großer spannender Kathedrale, dem Place de la Republik und dem alten Uhrenturm aus dem 14. Jh sind quasi um die Ecke! Die Fromagerie hat sich noch geöffnet! Da steht dem französischen Abendessen nichts mehr im Weg!
      Auch Bigfoot ist gut auf Frankreich eingestellt! Mit vorgeschriebener neuer Umwelt-Plakette und Todwinkel-Aufkleber kann ja nichts mehr schiefgehen! 👍😄      Read more

      After an enjoyable drive over the mountains and nearly getting stuck in a tiny village we ended up in an Aire in Champeix. The Aire is right next to some great trails so the next day we went on a lovely hike to a mountain village with a old chateau overlooking the valley . By chance as we were following a circular trail when we came upon what looked like some kind of abandoned Hobbit village.       Buron, France

      I am proud to welcome you Buron, France. For those who don't know, my family name was traditionally "Buron" but my grandfather decided to go through the process of legally adding a "Du" to the front of it. I still have cousins in Canada who still go by Buron. Anyways we don't know for 100% sure that Buron in the county of Yronde-et-Buron, France is indeed where our family is from. There is also a Buron in Saint-Contest, France to the North West. The family story is that we did come from a village with a castle and Yronde-et-Buron has it and Saint-Contest does not.

      The Castle, Château De Buron, dates back to the 13th century and still seems to be largely farmland in the immediate area. Getting to the ruins of Château De Buron was no easy feat. I have no idea if I went the best way, but after parking the car I had to run through a cow pasteur (stepping carefully) and then run up a very narrow trail through thick shrubs. After coming to the walls of the Château I had, both a trail to the right and left. I choose left, but was greeted with only a small gap. This wasn't exactly the guided tour style place I've frequent with many other stops around Europe. There were signs of crumbling walls all around me. So I crawled through my entrance being very careful not to even slightly touch the walls for fear of causing a collapse. The hill and ruins give an amazing view of the surrounding countryside.

      The town itself is full of typical old French gray stone houses. It was actually very cute. The streets are typical old European with barely enough width for a car. In fact, the road we drove over to get close to Château De Buron had a narrow cliff with no railing. There is a picture of it in this post. The town had one small Chapel and a single cemetery. The cemetery, actually seemed closer to the neighboring town of Yronde.

      Montignac

      October 3 in France ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

      Heute morgen haben wir uns spontan umentschieden, Vichy aufgrund des Wetters doch zu verlassen.
      Wir sind mit dem Camper einmal durch die Stadt gefahren und haben uns Halle de Source vom Autohaus angeschaut- was auch wirklich nicht tragisch war, da da dort Renovierungsarbeiten stattfinden.
      Durch Wunderschöne Landschaften und über imposante Brücken sind wir gegen Nachmittag in Montignac angekommen.
      Ein richtig schöner Ort, der uns mehr und mehr begeistert. Wir sind auf dem einzigen, noch offenen, wirklich nett geführten Naturcampingplatz untergekommen, Draußen sitzend haben wir die im Ort gekauften Leckereien mit einem schönen französischen Baguette verspeisen können.

      Good night!

      We are so ready to sleep! Managed to drive 500 km. Tomorrow the goal is to double that haha.
      The weather is changing from +30 to under +20 and it feels and looks like autumn here 😍 We are loving it! The road was so beautiful today with some colours on the trees, awesome sunset and the moon that was shining big and bright in the end of the road. It's time to get some rest and hit the road again tomorrow!

      Ollaan valmiita menemään unten maille! Onnistuttiin ajamaan 500km. Huomisen tavote on tuplata tää haha.
      Sää alkaa muuttua +30 -> alle +20 ja tuntuu syksyltä 😍 Tää on ihanaa! Matka oli kaunis tänään! Puissa on ihanat värit, auringonlasku oli huikee ja loppumatkasta kuu paisto isona ja kirkkaana. Aika saaha lepoo ja jatkaa matkaa huomenna!

      Es hora de dormir! Hemos recorrido unos 500km. El objetivo de mañana es doblarlo haha. Hemos pasado de 30° a menos de 20° y huele a otoño aquí😍 Nos encanta! Ha sido muy bonito hoy, diferentes colores en los árboles, un atardecer encantador y la luna enorme y brillante. Es hora de descansar y volver a la carretera mañana!      Read more

      Frankreich

      Heute ist der erste Urlaubstag 😎.
      Es war schon ein bisschen frisch beim Frühstück und in der Nacht haben wir durch geheizt.
      Der Platzwart hat uns seinen letzten Platz gegeben den er nur zur Not vermieten.
      Zu meiner Überraschung wollte er kein Geld von mir, das konnte ich gar nicht glauben, habe ihm 5€ Trinkgeld gegeben.
      Nach 165 Km Rue Nationale schleichen sind wir doch auf die Autobahn. Bin überrascht wie schön es in Frankreich ist.
      Auf einem Parkplatz haben wir ein Päuschen gemacht ,eine Currywurst gegrillt und dann gleich weiter. Unterwegs hat Dagi unseren Campingplatzführer und Landkarte studiert.
      In Royat haben wir einen netten Campingplatz gefunden, hier lassen wir den Abend ausklingen, glaube heute Nach müssen wir nicht heizen.
      Von hier sind es Morgen noch ca. 400 Km bis zum Atlantik. 🙂      Read more
