Erlenbach

Today was Margit’s birthday. All the German fam came over for a yum breakfast- rolls, ham, cheese, smoked salmon and eggs! We sang happy birthday in German and then English. The phone was ringing nonstop and all of the neighbours were coming over- it was cute!

At 11am, Trudi and Klaus came over and the champagne was opened 🥂

📍 Berwartstein castle- after breakfast we headed to this old medieval castle which is about a half an hour drive from Rodalben. The castle was built in the Middle Ages (around 1152) and was occupied by Hans Trap- a feared man from those times. It was destroyed later in history and was later rebuilt by a rich Netherlands man. After WWII he returned to the Netherlands and handed the castle over to the caretaker. The castle has been passed down generations and the caretakers grandson still lives in the castle and looks after the upkeep.
The castle featured a special entry inside, an underground tunnel system, a torture room, a 104m well and countless original furnishings and knights armour.
We had lunch in the courtyard after- Another Flammkuchen 😂 and some pea and ham soup. Levi ran around and played with some other kids- was very cute.

📍 Restaurant Haustelstube- we headed out for Margit’s birthday for dinner at a local restaurant in Rodalben. Schnitzels and parmas were on the menu although Jacques’ Parma looked a little different to what he was expecting- was still delicious!
Levi wasn’t happy as there was too much garlic in his spaghetti carbonara. He also let the waitress know about this 😂Read more
