Welkom in Nederland

Die Niederlande - Nördlicher Nachbar von Deutschland und einst eine der grossen Fussballnationen. Blumen und Windmühlen, Grachten und Marijuana, Flachland und Benelux Staat. Das ist wohl so bereits alles, was ich so spontan über Holland erzählen kann.
Einmal habe ich das Land auf der Durchreise nach UK durchfahren und einmal Amsterdam und dessen Hafen gesehen - that's it!
Wir starten früh um 6.00 und machen uns auf den langen Weg durch Deutschland um am Nachmittag Venlo, direkt nach dem Grenzübertritt nach Holland zu erreichen.
Was mag Holland noch so für Überraschungen bereithalten? Wie sind die Menschen dort? Sind sie eher reserviert oder ist das nur ein Irrglaube? Wie kommuniziert man dort, wenn man kein Holländisch kann? Was gibts dort zu essen und was kostet es? Wie ist unser Ferienort und werde ich mich dort wohlfühlen?
Fragen um Fragen, die sich ein Neu-Hollandreisender stellt. Die Fragen versuchen wir in den nächsten 2 Wochen zu klären. Erstmal erreichen wir nach ca. 700km auf der Autobahn und ca. 9 Stunden Reisezeit das wenig beschauliche Venlo, das vor allem für seine Warenumschlagslogistik bekannt ist und uns als zweckmässiger Übernachtungpunkt an die holländlische Küste dient. Das Campanile ist jedoch gut gelegen und bietet zu einen fairen Preis gutes Essen und freundlichen Service. Morgen gehts weiter, einmal quer durch Holland.

Mit dem Nightjet nach Amsterdam

Mit Vorfreude 🤗 werden die Klappräder🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️ vollgepackt und um 20:19 geht's mit der Lilo 🚎 Richtung Hauptbahnhof....wie erwartet hat der Nighjet ca 30min Verspätung 😅 also blieb noch genügend Zeit die Räder transportfähig zu machen und etwas zum Trinken zu besorgen. Um 22:06 fährt der Zug 🚉40490 NJ beim Bahnsteig 5 ein Wagen 253 Sitzplätze 105 und 106 sind für uns reserviert .Wir teilen uns das Abteil mit 2 Jungen Mädels Beide mit Tramperrucksäcken unterwegs. Einer Niederländerin die nach Hause fährt und eine die durchs Land trampt......
Das verstauen der Fahrräder hat sich etwas schwieriger gestaltet 😅 aber nach mehreren Versuchen haben wir dann doch einen optimalen Platz im Abteil gefunden und mit Expander fixiert
Unsere 4 Taschen hatten zum Glück noch unter den Sitzen platz ansonst wäre es sehr eng geworden zum Schlafen ....
Die Sitze haben wir alle ausgezogen und somit war das ganze Abeil eine Liegefläche für uns 4 ...😴 haben gut mit einigen kleinen Unterbrechungen bis ca 8 Uhr geschlafen .....Amsterdam ereichen wir gegen 11Uhr 👍Read more

Tag 2 - Anreise zum Festival

Los ging’s um kurz vor 10 vom Düsseldorfer Bahnhof, wo wir wegen eines Zugausfalls gleich mal neu planen mussten. Also ging es zuerst nach Duisburg, von da grade noch den Anschlusszug nach Viersen erwischt, danach weiter nach Venlo und von da wieder mit dem gebuchten Zug nach Eindhoven.

In Eindhoven wurde noch fürs Festival eingekauft und Mittags gegessen. Um ca 15:00 fuhr ich mit dem Zug weiter nach Deurne, wo uns dann schon der Shuttle zum Festival nach Ysselsteyn brachte. Vorbei an der rund 1km langen Autokollone, die ebenfalls unterwegs war, und anstellen fürs Festivalbändchen. Nach einer Stunde in der sengenden Hitze konnte ich am Campingplatz mein Zelt aufbauen und es mir mal heimelig machen.Read more

Day 19 a day with the family

It has been too long since I’ve seen these people 🥺 the last time was supposed to be 2020😭 but today that all changes!
Hugs, coffee and cake first with Annie, Anita and Leon! A drive to lunch (pancakes - yummy) then a short drive to Arcen for a walk through the town centre and a drink overlooking the Maas river! From there to Wim and Anita’s home for more coffee and wait for Wim to come home! Then off to dinner. Pork belly and local beer topped off with a latte (I will be honest and say I can’t wait to get home for a good coffee 🥺)
And just like that the day is done and it’s time to say our goodbyes till next year!! Just the best day!Read more

Traveler Love! Was lucky to sit in a newer model of the SL gull wings years ago for the F1 GP! The safety car came into work for us to have a look. I also have a massive frame print of it in my office!

Gassell - Venlo

Huge rainfall on the campsite last night so it was a relief to get going on the route to Venlo. It started out on small roads and then alongside the Maas.

Like all the Eurovelo routes, EV-19 (which we’ll be following for some of the trip) is stitched together from small roads, and various cycle tracks. There were some today which were quite narrow in places, though always surfaced. Loads of people out for Pentecost Monday, a big public holiday.

Arriving at one foot/cycle ferry crossing of the Maas, we found no service, allegedly due to the high water, we had to find another route into Venlo.

Another rest day tomorrow. I’m not sure exactly why our plans included 2 rest days close to one another, but a chance to see Venlo.

Close to Germany, there is more of a look and feel of Germany around and I’m sure I can hear the Dutch accent sounding more German.

Fantastic cycling. Brilliant cycle tracks, respectful drivers and no culture wars detected here!

Spontan gesehen, spontan hingefahren. Alles top und sauber hier.
Die Fahrt hierher war in keiner Weise spektakulär weder von der Umgebung noch was Motorradfahrer lieben.Read more

Today my aunt and I went shopping. I read my book and took a nap. Then went for a bike ride with my uncle to a man made lake. Rode my bike all the way around. That’s when I sheep and goats eating the grass! This way they don’t have to mow the grass! Then I saw the cutest house on the back back.Read more

Birthday Party

Saturday I was so sick. I slept the whole day. Sore throat, fever, chills, runny nose. I hate having a cold. Sunday we had my uncle 70th birthday. I got to see all my aunts n uncles again. Made feel close to my mom. A lot of the neighbors came from where she grew up and kept saying that’s Leni’s daughter. Made me cry. That’s my moms nickname. Then I finished my day with ice cream. Today we went to a party for Oma's sister and brother-in-law (the uncle and aunt of my Papa). It was their fiftieth wedding anniversary. I saw my second cousins Sven and Julia. Julia gave me some nice artworks, including Harma beads in the shape of a L. We had lots of courses and ice cream at an ice cream parlor. I had Smurf flavour, Julia had dark cookie and Sven had strawberry. Sven had strawberry because he is lactose intolerant, so he had to chose one that did not have dairy in it.
At the party I finished reading the Iliad and the Odyssey by Homer, an ancient and famous Greek story teller. Mama had set me the task of reading it and I finished it today. The Iliad is about the Trojan war, and how it was started and how it ended with the trojan horse. The Odyssey is about a hero called Odysseus who was the guy that came up with the idea of the trojan horse. When the war ended he sailed back home but came across lots of problems including, a cyclops, angry gods, and sirens. The sirens are sea monsters that sing a song, which drives men crazy with longing. Both stories are around 3000 years old, which is when Homer lived in ancient Greece. That is older than the Bible. Phanpy also enjoyed it.
After we said goodbye to every one, we went home.
At home there was a big bike race that went on into the night.
