1.10.24: Helen and Bill drove up with their pups.
2.10: Went and got the keys to the rental, did the damage report, went bunning to get supplies and spent hours building cat scratchers for the cat enclosure. Went and saw the progress on the land. Went in the snaky back entrance to our property and saw 4 big dogs - RAN. Thought I was going to get mauled. Turned out to be a neighbour walking her dogs.
    3.10: Bill flew home
5.10: we spent the day unpacking boxes and setting beds
6.10: Jess and Jax flew up and I napped while others unpacked more hahah
7.10: took Jax to shoot some hoops so Helen could continue setting up. We also showed him the land - Jess flew home
8.10: Jess and Bill drove up separately
9.10: Bill drove back down to get the house ready.

2 adults, 1 child, 3 dogs and 6 cats are officially in Brisbane. 🥳🥳

    7. september 2024, New Zealand ⋅ 🌧 9 °C

    Awful sleep again.
I speak for both of us when I say we are very excited about sleeping in our own beds tonight.
    And PUPPY CUDDLES!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭
We are also pleased to have a break from Miss positivity (Jade) who has such been so negative “I just find that so irritating” “it’s just so annoying how”
are her catch phrases. She also doesn’t laugh. Great for a dinner date but the last few days have been draining.
She is also so damn rude to Ian.
    anyway. We are out!
We did start the morning together though where we drove down the hill into town. Kinda missed our vertical walk lol.
Parking was a little challenging but we found 1hr parking for $3 which was great.
All of Ian’s choices this morning about which direction to drive and where to try park were wrong according to someone .… 😆
We went to Ferg’s bakery where they didn’t have regular flavored pies so I got the most basic they had and Will got a pork sausage roll. I got a wonderful juice and Will got a hot chocolate that was literally half a cup of melted chocolate he gave it to me because it was too much.
I agree but it also delicious 😆
We went and had a look in Burton at the boards. If you live in snow areas then absolutely. But man it’s expensive.
Board’s weren’t too much to be fair - like $600
But the shoes are 400 the helmets are 350 etc etc adds up quick sticks.
The weather was miserable and rainy so we just went straight to the airport.
They have another few days in wanaka*

Swapped over our coats when we got the airport and were able to check our bags in quick quickly.
We were there 3 hours early and honestly it’s probably the fastest 3 hours I’ve had in an airport in which I’ve done nothing.
Once they took our bags (I would like to see the rate of bag loss data now that they use machines compared to when they used people. Because if you haven’t see airport staff do it before then you wouldn’t know to take some of the bag stickers for yourself and to stick on your bag just incase the label rips off.
Obviously people have their own labels on bags as we do but a lot don’t. I reckon bag loss has probably gone up.)
    we went through tsa quick.
Bought a book about a kiwi on the other side which came with a little plush.
    Will delighted obviously.
VERY TEMPTED to buy a sleeping bulbasaur and pikachu but my new idea is to buy 6 Pokémon’s to represent my loyal Pokémon league bros starting with meganium and umbreon. Way better idea.
Just have to fund it 😅😆
We are on the plane now. Captain said it would be bumpy - had a little cry while getting through the clouds.
Seatbelt sign has just been turned off 🥳

Righto. Have come back on here specifically to say my nose has never run so much in my life. I’ve used about 40 issues - my nose is red raw. And im just having constant sneezing fits. Bet the people around me are well pleased.

  • Glenorchy

    6. september 2024, New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Had a great sleep in then we caught an Uber down the hill to pick up Jade and Ian’s car.
We got a maccas breakfast while in town then drove back to the Bnb to eat then we headed to Glenorchy. We stopped at a few lovely lookouts along the way. It’s about an hours drive - we went straight to the famous red shed and wharf and got a few pics.
Will promised me 2 cooperative photos today so I got one look out and one at the shed 🤣✌🏼
It’s a bit of a miserable day so it’s a bit foggy and a light rain but still a lovely little spot.
We are now at a cafe where I bought a “don’t be a dick” ceramic sign and have had a drink. I think there are a few good hikes in the area and lots of lord of the rings sights but because of the weather it’s not feasible today.
Not much to really do other than see the shed.. 😅😅
We have just done a quick drive the isenguard * lookout.
Unsure where in the film it’s from - sounds like a google question for when we get home.
We had fun doing some rock skipping.
We are on our drive back home and listening to more LOTR music 🎶 #vibes

They dropped us off at the Kiwi park which was huge a $55 each which is a bit much but I think they use the money for conservation.
We saw lots of birds. I particularly liked the Kea which was much bigger than I was expecting - and actually very cheeky!!! They have beautiful under feathers and according to their little blurb are as curious and have the same problem solving skills as a 4 year old.
    Really liked them.
Lots of other birds too - some who have been brought back from really low numbers to that’s great!
We then went to the Kiwi encounter which was scheduled for 3:45 and hung around a bit. I was a little nervous we were in the wrong spot but eventually a lady came.
Please we arrived 5 mins early because it took our eyes a little bit to adjust to the darkness.
It was a 10 min chat about kiwi numbers and survive rates.
A kiwi egg in the wild only has a 5% of making its first birthday so obviously abismal rates.
They also said they often release M/F Kiwis together because they are life partners and aren’t fussy so they accept who ever you pair them with. (🤣) They lay 2-4 eggs a year and can like to 60.
So some good hope/number to revamp the population who are mainly killed by dogs and introduced species.
We saw 3 out of 4 of them - 2 were really active and came right up the the glass and we scavenging and drinking so that was really awesome to see rather than just in their house or in the corner.
    Had a great then.
Then was able to buy a kiwi magnet because I saw one yeewww haha.
We then went to a gift shops where I bought another magnet and a mug 👀👀👀😆
Got an Uber home and are prepping for dinner which I am SO KEEN FOR.

Dinner was gooood. Service not great but it literally never is at Brazilian BBQ.
    I am STUFFED!
we have come home and divvied up our finances which I’m 100% is wrong.
Also before Jade was like you guys are ok to contribute for petrol yeah? Which we obviously are until she was like $20
Excuse me but it’s only 1 hour each way. You think that’s a $40 trip? That like 3/4 of a tank.
As Will said, not the hill I’m going to die on.

  • Queentown

    5. september 2024, New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

We both met up 4 separate times for a wee - ie we both didn’t sleep very well lol
But at least we got to sleep until 9.
Jade called the ski centre and we are getting reunds. They said for all 4 of us instead of 2… we shall see but I’ll view it as reimbursement for the taxi we had to get to frankton and my stupid lesson saga.

Walked down the hill and got on our wine hop on hop off bus.
We got off at Ayrburn winery which is only 4 months old - so very new. They spend 140 million so far and have another 200 mil to spend. It’s very well done. Lots of stone work, wood paneling and gravel roads to give it a nice rustic feel. I think it’s still looks quite fresh but in a few years when it’s a bit weathered it will feel more authentic.
    Lovely!
There is a music festival up the mountains in the snow fields and in Queenstown in general this week so there was a bunch of purple flags around and a big stage which also messed with the vibes a little. We are all quite hungry but the menu was so unnecessarily fancy so we chose to not eat eat and just got muffins and hot drinks. We walked around a bit and are now back on the bus.

    Stopped at nockies palette.
Which was very pretty. We did a wine tasting with 5 wines.
I’m sure wine people make things up. The 100 flavors and undertones they reckon exist are such a stretch.
Still, I had a really wonderful time.
The gardens were lovely and it had a cute chapel.
We are now on the bus again on our way to lunch.

Stopped at “the church” and are currently awaiting our lunch order which we are very excited about - we have ordered baked Brie and ive gotten another salad.
The grounds has lots of games like volleyball, a cricket pitch and that backyard tennis game with the ball attached to the stick, a hackey sack throw game and a trampoline.
Went on the trampoline and landed some flips yeww 🤙🏼🤙🏼 lol.

Cheese was so good!!! Came with a pear and fig chutney and I don’t know how, but I’m going to try make it at home lol.
We played the sack throw game for a while and went back on the trampoline. Then me and Will played a lot of a volleyball on a string/pole game except the ball was hard and our hands were cold
    So it hurtttttt.
We are now back on the bus dropping other people at different wineries but we are going to go back to Queenstown.

Also. We did get reimbursed for 4 ski tickets haha

At home I finally did some reading and watched ho to lose a guy in 10 days in the background. We he another noodles dinner because none of us were particularly hungry.

  • Arrowtown

    4. september 2024, New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Had a better sleep but still not fab considering how tired I am. I think it’s because it’s a double bed. Can’t stretch out 😩😂
Got up 8:30ish and headed downstairs for our dishes duty from last night. Took ages, I swear Jade used every dish in the house.
Will then cooked everyone a bacon and egg breakfast for everyone which we enjoyed in the dinning room with views just off the kitchen. Unfortunately it was a little fogged which interfered with the views.
    Delicious though.
We then had a lazy hour before heading all down the hill into town to catch the bus to arrowtown.
The bus was about 30 mins and a lovely drive.
Arrowtown didn’t have much but was still very lovely. We started out at the museum and frankly it was wicked boring 😆😆😆😆
Best part was a wall dedicated to old cigarette packaging they found somewhere. Lots of just very odd, not very flowy displayed. A ladies corset next to surgical pliers next to a boat wheel next to a compass.
The town doesn’t have enough fame to have a museum for bragging I don’t think.
I’m also a spoilt sod so when I see an 1800 or 1900’s date I’m not amazed because it’s too recent after the ruins we have seen elsewhere.
Found a signed copy of the wonky donky in the gift shop that I might come back for.
We then walked the streets which was lovely and got a drink. I got a cherry coke which was $9 so I assumed it would be house made. Nope, just a normal can. Outrageous pricing.
We then went to a lolly store which I always love the feel of. I’m never adventurous in them but I love looking. I ended up with some salted caramel fudge 🤤
We then went to the Chinese settlement display because (now I should have read more of the info displays) arrowtown is an old mining town.
A few of there shelters which I enjoyed seeing.
I always see museums and am so thankful I am born when I am. They would have been fucking freezing.
We then went and had a feed. I had a pumpkin and feta salad and it was divine.
We then just went into some of the stores and I hav ended up with a wooden Pinocchio doll that’s i LOVE and am so pleased with.
We then walked to the old gaol which needed a key to open which could be found at the museum. Would have been nice to know that ahead of time 🫠 so we decided not to go in but there were handcuffs with a big wooden log out front that had a story about a 6ft 6 man being arrested and handcuffed to it. He just picked it up and took it with him to the pub.
    I enjoyed that display. Haha

I went back to the museum and bought the signed book.
We are now on the bus back home.

Got off in town and went in a few of the shops and have come out with an expensive Christmas ornament 😅
In fairness I didn’t get the suuuuper expensive $30 one.
Will did a such a bad fart in the shop it followed him and I had to genuinely ask him if he has shat himself.
We then went to the ice bar.
I think I speak for everyone when I say that it wasn’t what we expected.
They give you gloves and a jacket and then we went in and it’s literally a freezer room with a few sculptures and 2 seats.
The bar tenders were so cringe. It was like it was 2am in the club WOOO WOOP YEAHHHHHH LETS DO SOME SHOTS WOOOOOO vibes.
In fairness good job to them for putting in effort and enthusiasm towards their jobs.
However it was 4 pm and only 4 other people in the room.
    Horrifyingly embarrassing.
We had a drink and took some pics and left after 15 mins even though it was an hour session.
Wouldn’t recommend. I’m interested to know if all like this or if this is a shit one.
We then went to an Irish pub where everyone else got a drink to pass the time before we went to our dinner reservations (ice bar was an hour time slot) at a supposed Botswana restaurant. It gave off fancy vibes but I don’t view it as a Botswanan menu.
Food was good. I didn’t love my onion soup but didn’t really want to spent a trillion dollars on a main I didn’t want.
Ian got a birthday ice cream because they asked us a few times if it was someone’s birthday - it was a little weird actually. Like they went out of their way to give the ice cream and we only said yes because this trip was originally for Ian and Craig’s 30th.
    “Is it anyone’s birthday”
    “No”
    “Are you sure?”

We had this convo with 2 different people.

Went to pay the bill and we had the other $100 credit from our missed ski day - only the card didn’t work 🫠🫠🫠 so we paid the $200 each up front and need to go argue with the ski centre tomorrow.
    We are now back home.
Overall I’ve had a great day.
I think Will is disappointed we haven’t all gone out drinking but I’m thrilled cause we have the winery tour tomorrow.
It was the original plan but Jade wanted to come home because she hasn’t had as good of a day as me lol.
    Keen for tomorrow.

    3. september 2024, New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

Woke up at 6 and saw that coronet peak was closed today but Remarkables was open - our bus pass is for coronet peak though..
We spent at least and hour this morning trying to get through on the phones to be able to change the booking.
We called maybe 15 times before we got through.
Long story short is they cancelled todays not yesterday so we have to get a $40 taxi to a different pick up point.
I’m not mad we had a slower start today. I’m knackered.
And nervous for Will. He says his hip is a bit better but I don’t trust him. Lol

A little bib high stress. We ordered our taxi for 9 - it’s a 10 min drive to Frankton where we had to head the bus but at 9:15 the taxi still hadn’t arrived 😬
We got there a bit late but thankfully the bus was still there.
It’s currently 9:55 and I think it’s waiting cause traffic is a chockers because everyone is trying to go up the mountain.
Napped on the bus again lol

I just simply don’t enjoy the snow and that’s ok. The limited movement, 50,000 people in your way also inhibited by their gear and just general 62 layers pissed me right off.
    I
Put my boots on and fuck me my calves and shins are on fire. Like someone just constantly punching a bruise.
Walked like a spastic starfish to a point where I could put the skis on. Everyone moving 500 times faster and I don’t know how I just keep sinking into the snow.
I’m trying to hard to be thankful to be here but it’s snow tedious bs.
We got separated on the lifts to I was with a bunch of strangers and the lift closed on my poles so I had to supported them above my head the whole way up lol.
    Got off the lift ok.
Thats when it all went downhill. Couldn’t turn like I could in my lesson. I can do it on flat but on a hill I don’t have the weight and strength.
I pizza stance or breaker literally the entire way down the mountain. We made jade and Ian go infront because I had to stop twice because I had the most horrendous calf cramps that I was crying.
It was really scary in parts. I was breaking but no stopping.
Had to stop again and had another mildly hysterical cry and apologized to Will. He was so good about it. He only had to get me to the bottom of the mountain and i said he’d be rid of me 🤣
Took minimal/some pics after my second meltdown cause i knew it was last chance hahah
Getting my fat ass back up in skis is impossible too. I don’t know howwwww
Take away is that snow sports suck, give me some ice skates. 🤣
Am now by myself in the cafeteria. I’ve had chips and gravy which were was delicious but were $24 😬😬😬 they had no forks so I’m just eating with my fingers but I’m on an elevated bench for everyone to look at ahah

Everyone found me and had lunch. Falling asleep at the table. 😪

They all went off to do the harder runs and I did the beginners section. I had much more fun! Hot tip - stay within your capabilities 😓
Seems logical, if something is beyond your ability win enjoy it.
Would happily ski again, will be wanting lessons an only beginners section tickets. I don’t thin Will will want to come with me again though 😅
I did 4 rounds - would have been more but some goose does not understand what the world alternate means which is what you are suppose to do when merging the lines for the convey belt.
She just stood there and let I’d say 30+ people from the other line through.
    Ffs tick tock.
I don’t know why I can’t turn on the steeper hills. Im a ok on beginner hill.

Bunch of boys I believe at a bucks party all in speedos.
    Going to freeze.
    Weather is beautiful today.

Good timing I finished a run as the others were boarding past and said they were done for the day.

Currently on the ski bus and keen to return all our crap.

Mountains look like balls of weed.

    2. september 2024, New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Remarkables website said they would inform everyone by 6:30 what the go was for today. At 6:30 they said sorry, check back at 7:30 which wasn’t a big no for me because I didn’t want to lug myself down the hill to find out I had to go home. Because our bus was at 8 so 7:30 was too late to let us know.
Will said he wasn’t going to go anyway so I delightedly went and informed everyone we wouldn’t be going anyway.
As it turns out all mountains were closed because of wind. Yewww - this means we got our bus pass money back because it wasn’t our choice and we did book a specific time and day. Ski passes are open so can go whenever. We are planning to get $100 credit though with a retail partner.
Went back to bed for 30 minutes then we slowly got ready for the day.
We dordled down to the gondola and luge.
Outrageously expensive but should be unsurprised by now.
The ride up was fun. Quite quick actually which is good in an efficiency sense when there is crowd but negative because I was happy to watch the view..
To the boys delight the photos began on the way up.
    Good sports.
It was about 10:30 - The luge was under construction so didn’t open until 12 so we went to the restaurant to fill in time and looked at the view/took 100 photos.
Got a stranger to take a group photo. I don’t understand why people treat iPhones like roll up film. You can press the button more the once ffs. 🤦‍♀️
You’ve literally held the camera 8 different ways, why is there only 1 photo when you give it back???????
Lined up for the luge at 12. I think the delayed opening cause major congestion today.
We got our helmets out of big bins - fingers crossed no one has lice because wowzas that would spread like wildfire.
    Chairlift up was fun.
Line took a little while but eventually it was our turn. You get a 30 second lesson before you are allowed to go.
I feel like I was going fast but everyone was faster 😅🤣
Will had to get a bigger one but just glad he fit and could get in with his hip.
Ian and Will opted not to go again (we got a 3 ride pass) but me and Jade wanted one more turn.
Line was fucked and we should have cut in like everyone else who already had a helmet.
But a quick 40 mins later … we got there - we went down the other track so now I’ve done both I’m satisfied. This one he dips so I actually preferred the first one which had more tunnels.
You can by like unlimited/ 9 time passes. Would take the whole bloody day.
The lifts were also super dumb cause it grouped people who knew each other together so lots of individuals taking up seats - share with another group??
We then went down the gondola and went walking to the botanical gardens
    The gardens were lovely!
Lots of big thick trees and little foot bridges
Randomly lots of people playing frisbee golf? Like literally 15 different groups of more than 5 people each available on a Monday at 2:30??
Haven’t seen a frisbee in years - today I saw loads.
To be fair it looked fun.
We walked through a fabulous forest section and ended up by the water edge where we sat for a while and took some pics
Walked back and had a lovely drink (best mulled wine I’ve ever had) at a little gazebo cafe on the beach.
Some people were sunbaking. I was in snow gear and a beanie but sure, good time to wear a bikini 🥶🥶🥶🥶
We had an early dinner at some asian fusion place and used one of our $100 credits we get with the snow fields partners because we have missed a day of skiing.
Jade is going to give us our bus money later or work out the math from the Uber money we owe her.
We bought frozen peas for wills hip and got an Uber home.
We watched noting hill, I ate sticky date pudding and wrote my journal. So time consuming (more so the movie was distracting )

    1. september 2024, New Zealand ⋅ 🌫 6 °C

NZ is 2 hours in front so didn’t actually get to sleep 1ish their time and had to get up at 6 🫠
Had my first ever weetbix (except for whistle game at school camps) for breakfast (with banana) awful. Tomorrow I’ll have toast.
The house wasn’t too cold so was able to get dressed quite pain free.
We put on our boots which was a great decision and worth the quarantine hassle and headed on out.
Weather is pretty shit today compared to yesterday .
We went and organized our snow gear.
I already have the shit with my skis. I don’t know how to carry them. And then I’m also carrying my poles and boots and have a helmet. Not enough hands.
We wizzed through that faster than expected so we Jade and Ian got coffees. Will got a toastie, I got a lip balm.
The bus trip was 45 mins and foooking beauuuuuutiful on the way up - I fell asleep near the end because of the winding. Such an infant.
Because we arrived at 9 I asked if there was still availability for the lesson. Answer was yes. I couldn’t pay the difference and had to buy it outright. Sigh.
But pleased to get a lesson. We all got $15 credit because mountain might close in the middle of the day.
Was put in a group of 5 for our lesson and before I recount this just need to say thank fuck I got one bcause I was SO ANGRY while just trying to get my ass over to the lesson point because I didn’t know how to carry or use the skis.
In all honesty didn’t want to be there and was ready to leave because I was so frustrated
    BUT
lesson man was great. We started with skis off and he went over lots of things then we practiced one ski and a time doing pizza stance to slow doen and learning to stop. I had trouble turning because my leg was on the wrong foot but once I figured it out I feel like I did really well.
We did little runs then got bigger and bigger and I for faster and more confident.
We breaked for lunch and we’re going to go higher after lunch but the mountain closed because of the weather.
I did try one more quick begin run by myself and it’s the first time I wish I had goggles.
Snow wind belting my face. Not ideal.
    Squinted down the mountain.
We got on the bus and I fell asleep again. 😅
Mountain probably closed tomorrow too because they are expecting a huge snow dump and need to do avalanche control or something so unfortunately we had to lug our stuff back rather than use the overnight $5 lockers.
    - because day 3 we are supposed to to be going to a different mountain so if we leave stuff overnight and it is closed… can’t get our stuff.
We will have to discuss our plans later but currently Jade and Ian are napping.
Will fell on the mountain and fucked his hip.
We are just pleased it’s not his back.
Has no bruising but a huge hematoma and having issues walking. I don’t think he should look kid go tomorrow anyway but he is being a goose and stubborn at the moment.

Every Uber we have had has been a Prius ie not big enough for all our stuff so we had to get separate ones. Ours fucked us around with picking us up but we eventually got there.

    Accidentally had a 3 hour nap 😅😅😅
    I’m still shattered.

My calves were in trouble but they seem a bit better (the boots are sooo tight and you have to be in a bent position) 🥵

Jade is currently cooking sausages and making a food order.

Food order came and we got more food than last time and it got delivered to the door. A much bette system lol.

We are watching a movie and I’ve caught up on my hard copy diary because the reason I write journals is because I don’t remember my first NZ so I’ll be damned if I don’t write one this time! 😆

Hoping the mountain is closed tomorrow cause Wills hip is fucked. 😬

  • Half marathon

    18. mai 2024, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Drunk, work Christmas party Harry agreed to do a half marathon with Lauren. 😪😆🤦‍♀️

We did our first run together in January but had a bit of a break with all the pregnancy and other medical/injury stuff.

But we ultimately did put a lot of time, money and effort into this race.

    RACE DAY.

I was so nervous. So unbelievably nervous. I didn’t like that the success or failure of the day was dependent on my knee which was completely out of my control.
I went the physio the night before and had it strapped so nothing more I could do but I was stressssssed. In theory If I made it far enough into the race before it died I would be able to walk the last bit and still make time.
    I just wanted to finish.

We drove in together, registered and got our race chip/number then went back to the car and had our pre work out. It often makes me poop but it didn’t today thank goodness 😂😂😂
Did our first pre race wee then fluffed about not warming up when we definitely should have been warming up…
Suddenly it was race time and we weren’t prepared hahah
Did our second pre race wee and MINIMAL stretching before going to the start line

    3, 2, 1, and we were off!

The start was fun while we were all together but the pack dispersed quite quickly.
Lauren bless her cotton socks left me very early on which I am so thankful to her for because she was very enthusiastic about running together and woke I would have loved to I didn’t want to. I wanted to run slower than she wanted to. I hated feeling like I was holding her back.
And I could just listen to my music and focus on my stride alone.
I was in front of a heap of people but I think a lot dropped out because I didn’t see that many on my second lap.
It was across the bridge and back x 2.
I had a rock In my shoe which was a weird distraction and so bloody annoying that it helped keep me out of my own head.
Was bored on the first bridge bit then got to the other side and expected to turn around and run back
But no. Had to run a whole nother km before the. u turn. Boooo
There was a 5km and 10km event that started after us that I half joined. Nice to run with people again.
Gave Lauren high fives as we ran past each other.

Staninade/water stations weren’t often enough and the bins were only 2 steps after so you couldnt really drink before disposing.
Lucky I had my backpack. Looked like a goose but at least I was hydrated.
    Had a gel every 5km
Second lap in a better head space.

    19km in my knee died.
I did not just run 19km in a row without walking to no run the whole way

    IT HURT
But u changed my stride and pushed through AND I MADE IT AND I AM SO INDESCRIBABLY PROUD OF MYSELF!!! nearly cried and I was on the last 100m.

Lauren and fam cheered me over the line.
    Got some pics
I think my time was about 2hours 38 mins.
Which gave me a whole 50 minutes to spare!

    I AM SO PROUD

  • Day 5

    15. mars 2024, Samoa ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Woke up late cause I stayed up until 3 am reading 🙈
    Oops.
Had a massage appointment for 10:30 so ate breakfast and went to my appointment. Wasn’t sure what service I was getting cause I left after making the appointment yesterday indecisive and told them I would pick tomorrow but when I arrived they told me to lie down so I did and happily took whatever they gave me.
    So good.
I asked for a medium over hard pressure because of my sunburn. Still excellent. Need to get more at home I love them.
Only got the giggles once when she was doing my knee.
Went back to the room to find Will reading. He is nearly done with his book so proud haha it’s only taken several years haha
Played with our cat friend then headed to pool. *said in a Brisbane accent* “Pooooool.”
Swam for ages. Had a Oreo milkshake each which is definitely their most consistently yummy drink.
Swam swam swam. Performed a clear Olympic level synchronized swimming dance routine for Will and did not receive appropriate praise.
    Rude.

Aolie is more fun to say than it is yum to eat

I left this unfinished for like 6 weeks after coming home but I believe I then went snorkeling by myself then went back to the pool in the evening after dinner.

Had a fab time. Would come again but also don’t need to.
I think the people let it down. And frankly I think we have done pretty much it has to offer.

    - Samoa airport garbage
    - flew home next to Petero Civoniceva (QLD NRL legend.)
    - Origainlly tossed up between Samoa and Fiji and we are winners because we learnt as we flew back via Fiji it had been torrential rain the whole week.

  • Day 4

    14. mars 2024, Samoa ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

The mentality for 9am start vs 8am start is wild.
Slept wonderfully for our 9am start.
Breakfast had these nice donut things today.
Unfortunately it’s mainly just the same scrambled egg and sausages everyday 🤢
Got on our way to the To - Sua trench.
Probs my highlight of the trip.
    Big big hole.
Big big slippery ladder to get down.
Green water, cold temp which became perfect after a minute.
The current was so strong it pulled you around one side to the other. Their were ropes to hold onto.
We went through a cave to another empty hole that was connected. Had a great time just splashing around. It was beautiful. I wish I had a water proof camera. That’s going to be the big money winning invention one day cause we have legit not got photos of activities this trip because of it haha. And I don’t trust the pouches.
Climbing back up the ladder was less scary.
We got some photos of the view from the top and i fed my complimentary banana muffin to the chickens. Had a blast doing that lol
Walked across to another viewpoint and if i have understood correctly a tsunami hit up to cost and killed 200 people in I think 2007.
There was also 2 rocks which were once people? It was open and then the people tuned into rocks so now it’s closed cause they have the key.
Don’t ask me WHAT was opened then closed cause I haven’t a clue hahahah.
I find it so hard to understand 😩😩😩
Went back to the resort which for once was actually nearby (hurray! ) and then we went for a cocktail and a swim.
It’s so hot and we are both burnt even though we have gone through nearly 2 bottles of sunscreen.
Had some lunch, booked a massage for tomorrow and am now just relaxing on our deck.
Read for a while before going for a sit in the ocean.
Have come back and had a 10 minute panic because I couldn’t find my phone.
Will just lying down watching me fret while he stayed put.
Eventually asked if he could help and he soon found it tangled in his blanket 🙄
Relived cause it’s on airplane mode and no WiFi to track/call or message.
Will said he wanted a nap and I commented we would waste the daylight and he retorted he came here to do nothing. Fair play.

And suddenly our quick cat nap turned into a 5 hours snooze fest 🤣🤣
So it’s 7pm and we are at dinner eating another 3 course meal like pigs.
Have I mentioned the garlic bread?? 🤣🤣🤣 world class. Have taken a picture tonight is honor of its mastery.
Had a sasalaka (green fruit) smoothie. Won’t be ordering again but proud of myself for branching out.
Back in the room and there is a gecko on the wall. If it crawls on me during the night I’ll cry.

  • Day 3

    13. mars 2024, Samoa ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Low key annoyed. Was ready to go by 8 in the reception but got told we were leaving at 9 because of the tide. Completely valid reason but I’m sad cause I’m so tired 😫🤣 An Extra hour of sleep would have been marvelous lol
Arrived back at 9 and and waited around a bit. Went to get on the bus an noticed a lady holding goggles and snorkel and I asked if we needed to go from reception and she said yes 🙃 we have been sitting here 15 minutes as if no one told us this. Would have been so mad if I sat on a bus for an hour for us to not be able to participate. Reception didn’t have anymore so we drove to the boat shed and Will came back with flippers which prompted the other lady to ask if she needed them too which she was told yes 🙃 so she had to get out too.
Communication not ideal but got there in the end.
I read on the bus my hard copy book which I think is my first book since before our big Europe trip. At least 7 years. So weird holding it.
    Again, it’s Africa.
I’m confused how it operates. Each house is so far from the others and there is a school every village but I don’t understand where everyone comes from??? You’re have to walk 50km or are you living in the trees?
how do you get here and then home? You could leave now and wouldn’t be home before school was starting again tomorrow?
It’s the amount of kids that’s throwing me.

Got there, stripped and got in the water.
Now, a lot of complaining is about to happen (even for me) but I did actually have a good time.
BUT got in the water and my snorkel had a hole in it which the guide fixed but still gahhh after I swallowed sea water.
it was also wicked frustrating that one of flippers straps didn’t work. Will fixed it once then I gave up and just used one and had to hold it.
My snorkel also didn’t clip onto my goggles which was annoying when trying to clean my goggles (which were too small.. 🤣) because I didn’t have enough hands to hold my flipper, snorkel and not get water in my eyes…
    anyway.
Saw some beautiful blue starfish and big sea slugs.
I also saw a big turtle which was great. I doubt all tours are successful.
I LOVED the clam section. Hundreds and hundreds of baby ones then they got biggger and bigger and bigger until the BIG ones.
I liked watching them flinch when a fish swam by. Just highlighted they are alive.
There was just the shell of one who must have died which I also though was awesome.
In a fool hearty attempt to clean my goggles while holding all my shit I cut my toes on some coral so I called it a day and swam back to shore.
Ate our free sandwich and muffin while waiting for the others to swim back then got back on the bus.
    Great idea bringing a book.
Our driver makes me uncomfortable. He is a nice my but I don’t know what he is sayingggggggg.

Will went down for a sleep. I read for about an hour he before going in the in the ocean.
I examined some different coral and then I found a little yabby looking thing making a hole. It has made a barrier out of shells and went down and got out scoops of sand on repeat. It had a black fish in the entrance too. I watched them for agessss. I’m sure people though I was weird just staring directly at the water lol

Had a quick 30 min power nap then got ready for Fia Fia night.
Was a buffet dinner which we arrived early for so entertained myself on the Wi-Fi in reception. It’s so dodgy.
Got sat at our table and ended up being seated with the Germans which I was so awkward about. Their English is more than acceptable but not strong enough for constant small talk.
They are quite lovely. Just very German 🤣
The husband had to translate for his wife a a lot of it which I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt - might be why he kept talking during the tour yesterday - he was translating. If yes, then significantly let rude.
1.5 hours of small talk 😬😬😬
Food was good. Especially for the price of buffet and show. The poleneysian peoples plates were commented on my all non poleneysisn descended kiwis and aussies.
They were all literally 6 layers high. I have never seen such full plates in all my life.
German lady even commented how fat they all were 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The show eventually started and they did a karva welcome ceremony which I had such anxiety over i left and went to the toilet. We got taught words and then had to say them if given the Karba but legit everyone also gave a speech so I jumped ship.
Will got picked while I was hiding hahahaha
    WORST NIGHTMARE.

He show began and I enjoyed the dancing.
He woman were obviously very skilled and the men, especially the one always in the middle went HARD.
    They then had 2 volunteers.
    UNCOMFORTABLE.
The man danced with the man and the woman with the woman - they copied.
Then they swapped and freestyled and it turned into this weird orgy hands on grinding dance.
I beg pardon what is happening.

Then was the fire dance which was the clear highlight of the whole evening and excellent.
I crept up front to film. First 2 blokes were amazing but did drop it a few times and I just had this imagine of him losing control and it flinging at me so I moved back to the back to watch.
A duo act and then they finished.
Then we sat down for final dance with a lady in I presume traditional dress and head set
WILL AND I AGREE THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE OF UNCOMFORTABLES
One of our drunk neighbours got up and started dancing with them completely interrupting the performance AND THEN USED HIS MOUTH TO PUT A MONEY NOTE BETWEEN HER BREASTS LIKE A STRIPPER
    Oh.
    My.
    God.

    I cannot.

I felt everyone around us was uncomfortable too and grimacing at each other. 😬
Did some awkward birthday singing then called it a night.

  • Day 2

    12. mars 2024, Samoa ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Alarm set for 7. 7:30 we rolled out and headed to breakfast. I was 95% sure our tour was meeting at 9 but just in case I wanted to make sure I had eaten in case it was 8.
Not loving the breakfast but it’s free sooo.
In fairness, the fruit is great but not that filling and i was aware I was getting in a bus so wanted to make sure I had a full stomach to combat very potential motion sickness.
I keep needing a sooon and there is a never a spoon?
I wanted one for my spider drink yesterday and today for my passion fruit lol

Lathered on the sunscreen, got dressed and headed to reception.
I’m In my long dress because I think we are going to a church.
We are with 2 other older couples.
1 from Netherlands 1 from Germany.
Guess which couple is rude 🙃 why always the Germans?

Far out, it reminds me of Africa. African Africa not Arab Africa. I love it.

Our first stop was the Bahai temple which is a religion that is basically all religions. They read from the Quran, Bible and everywhere else. They think it’s all the same God.
The gardens are maintained beautifully. Walked into the temple and it was pretty simple. Walked around and then headed for the information center. Some kooky lady approached me and gave me a hug and then told me about the religion which I liked cause she didn’t try to convert me.
I think some of the information was a bit of a stretch such as it’s the second fastest growing/biggest religion.. then immediately bragged they now have a temple in each continent.. wow so many temples…
She said all the temples have 9 doors because it’s an inclusive number or some shit. It includes 1-8 a then all numbers after 9 are just a repeat. *nods* sure things.
They listed that Jesus was from Palestine on the wall which I though was ballsy.
I don’t really know what happens after you die but I don’t have a problem with all the Gods actually being the same God/stemming from the same place.
I’ll stick to my lane though.

We then went to a famous writers house and went on tour. Cool house. He only lived there for a few years before dying. He moved there because he ha TB and was told to go to a warm climate.
We didn’t really know who he was until we entered his library with some of his works…
    - Treasure island
    - Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
    - Arabian nights
Oh. Those are some biiiiig names. We are paying attention now.
Will didn’t know Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde??? Did he never watch Scooby Doo?
    Author was Robert Louis Stevenson.
Maybe 9 rooms all up. Most things replicas because 2 cyclones hit the house but still cool.
He is buried on top on a nearby mountain which you can hike.
    There were cats here too.

We then went to the pacific jewel which was apart of our itinerary which I laughed at cause it’s just a shop and a cafe lol the highlight of Samoa.
I saw then bought an egg for mum which I can give for Mother’s Day.
We were given aero guard and fans for when we sat in the garden haha.

We then went to the cathedral of the immaculate conception
    ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL AND UNEXPECTED
The roof was made of wood and I loved that the main dome was Samoan themed people with Jesus.

Across the street from the church was a bay. There was a chinese overturned boat/ship on the shore that crashed last month.

Went and saw some buses. I don’t really understand the excitement about the buses but the other 2 couples got out and spent a while photographing them all. The one next to us was completely full of people and the windows have bars like jail cells and the Dutch man full posed in front of it and I both found him/the situation hilarious and it uncomfortable because it really gave off animals in a zoo vibe
They be like why the fuck are you photographing us on a bus 🤣
We went to the markets yet and ended up getting a magnet of a bus because I honestly think that will crack top 5 moments of the trip.
I don’t understand how market people make money.
Soooo many stalls but it’s legit the same store repeated? Sell something different and you might make more money.
We bought another magnet with our bus magnet, a shirt each and a coconut to drink.

Our driver is very islander time and the Germans were proper stressed because they really insisted a time to be back at the bus at the markets and guide was all like just take your time and they couldn’t handle this. I hated it too to be fair.

The 4 of us ended up beating the other couple back by a long time and guide was like I don’t know where they are or when they will be back and Germans lady said exasperatedly
“Well if you set a time..” which I did laugh at.

On the drive to the waterfall guide did a big speech about how it’s not allowed in our countries butin Samoan culture they beat their children with sticks and the bus was just sitting in awkward silence. Cause he was like “it’s a good thing” 👀 I want to believe he meant smack and no beat them black and blue but I do not believe he did 😬😬😬

Togitogiga waterfall was nice but not the best thing I’ve seen from a tourist point of view. Bloody sensational if you live down the street and it’s your local swimming hole.
    It was very busy.
One kid was covered in big puss filled boils. I wasn’t in the mood fr swimming but I honestly wouldn’t have gotten in with him if I was. Kid needs a doctor.
Beautiful red flowers on the walk to the falls.

I don’t know how they get anywhere. In town had streets but there is literally 2 streets for the rest of the island. One goes around and the other goes down the middle. Wild. And tedious.

It was so hottttt. My clothes were soaked in sweat.

The Samoan people aren’t as friendly as I was expecting.

Went for a swim when home and water money on a margarita. I didn’t drink it. Watered down tequila. Awful. Will had 2 successful cocktails.
    Love swimming.
Used our outdoor shower then chilled in the room for a bit.

Had dinner. Mixed reviews. My deep fried banana was divine.
Back In the room and going to bed early cause I a shattered lol.

  • Day 1

    11. mars 2024, Samoa ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Had the alarm set for 9 but that was less that 6 hours sleep so it wasn’t really until 10 we got moving to officially check in.
We then went and had some quick breakfast even though it was finishing.
The view from our room is BEAUTIFUL.
    The whole place is beautiful.
After breakfast we booked som tours for the week at reception then got into our cozzies and went for a dip in the ocean. It’s all coral so hard to walk into but once you get far enough in to swim it’s fab. Temperature was fab. EVERYTHING was fab!
We will get snorkels later to look at the fish and reef.
We then headed to the pool for a cocktail. Pool was lovely too. I’m loving everything hahah
Just potted around in the water for a bit then went and got dressed for lunch. Prices are higher than I expected but still more than reasonable.
We are having a snoooze now.
    It’s a tough life.

    4 hours later… 😅
I went back in to the beach as high tide was back but it was a bit more push and pull than before and as I was by myself and have an Australian water safety standards, I got out (even though only up to my knees when standing lol.)
Found Will reading on the deck so joined him with my kindle. 2 cats came for a visit. 6 live here snd all with clean bill of health. 10/10 resort.
I had another shower cause sand everywhere. It’s the volcanic sands so very large pieces that are very annoying when in your pants haha.
Got dressed for dinner and went to the Resturant.
Ultimately I think we are probably going to go over budget by the end… don’t care. Not by much but dinner tonight was $116 aud so this is going toads up quickly 😬
Delicious though. Garlic bread was to die for!
Our room neighbours are very loud and chatty. Asked where we were from and suggested North Pole or Europe because we are both fluorescent white ha ha ha go fuck yourself. 🖕🏼🤣
We found a big crab on our way back to the room. He ran away quick and then when we were trying to get close to him he went into stealth mode. Very cool.
Also found some little hermit crabs on the path today.
Went in the pier and had a look at the stars. BEAUTiful.
Back in the hotel now and going to read again.
We have had a very relaxing day.

  • Transit

    10. mars 2024, Fiji ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

Had an absolute heart drop last night.
Went to check In online and got all the way until the end before it asked for our visa number and it was compulsory to fill in and I was like omfg.
Do I need one to transit in Fiji??? or have I misunderstood Samoan requirements???
Quick search indicated no but I couldn’t check in without it so this morning we had to arrive 3 hours early because check in was only open for 1 hour and then closed 2 hours before flight which is less wriggle time than usual.
Checked in with a person and no visa needed PHEW!
We went to a cafe which had a robot being all the food to the table.
I ordered with a person rather than the QR code but I bet there was an option to tip and it’s a big no from me on a regular day but if I’m ordering myself it’s now it’s being delivered by a robot. The audacity. 🤣
    Robot was cool though.
I had a DELICIOUS biscoff frappe. Going to have this flavor more often.
Getting through security was easy enough but we both commented it’s a weird airport.
The 3 hours passed quick enough and we boarded. Paid an extra $20 each for an exit row sway which was amazing and then we had no one not to us as an added bonus. Yewww.
I slept on my tray a lot of the way and Will listened to a podcast.
Very bumpy on the way down but we made it and are currently in Nadi for a 5 hour layover.
It was such a tropical open space when we landed and then in the foyer where 3 men with ukuleles. Nice vibes.
Not many shops inside but has a Burger King so we currently just chilling.
    Time dragged lol.
There weren’t many flights out (only 3. One to Melbourne, one to LA and one to Apia)
So airport was empty most of the time. Eventually a hoard of Americans arrived.
Americans that venture outside their country are fab. I like listening into their conversations. Always so animated and enthused.
    Book store/newsagents was crap.
Had dodgy wifi but at least it had.
    Finally boarded at 9:30pm.
Plane wasn’t full and we had another win - no one in our exit row with us wooo!
I do find this strange. I genuinely would have thought it was the only section of the plane that ha to have people to help if needed.
    Not complaining.
Flight was smoother than the first one and we landed on time.
They ran out of immigration cards on the plane so most people had to do it on arrivals which I think slowed customs downs alotttt.
Got through though so YAY TO US AND OUR 50th country!
Our walk from the plane to customs was so slow and I was like *eye roll* we are on island time already so I muttered to Will we are moving at a blistering speed aren’t we and he said SO LOUDLY
“She’s blind you dickhead” which he found hysterical but I found so embarrassing cause I felt paranoid everyone was looking at me lol. Not my fault I can’t see over the tops of heads like he can 🙄🤣

Got our bags and headed, handed in our arrival card, scanned our bags for quarantine then found our driver which I was relieved to find. I always gets anxious when I book so far in advance that a new got lost along the way and no one will turn up.

My thoughts on the drive even though it was now 2am and very dark.

It has Kenya vibes. It’s like Africa with more palm trees. Especially the corner stores.
So many churches!! Our driver blasted Jesus music our whole drive which I loved. Especially cause he didn’t give us a choice he just did it.
There is consistent misconception when we are overseas that we value speed over safety. Our drive could absolutely have been worse but still stressed me out.
Please get off your phone, please slow down for the wild boar, please don’t play chicken with oncoming cars, just move over and please don’t go so fast. 😫
Don’t die. On arrival he got our key and took us to our room. We were so awkward because we had no internet and didn’t know if we were meant to tip or not and I felt like the dude lingered like he might have been waiting.. unsure. Still without reliable internet..
Past 3 am when we finally got into bed and both fell asleep immediately.

  • Christmas 23

    25. desember 2023, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

    Had a cracker.

    - Started with presents. Bill fired for next year because of his inability to read the labels.
-Made everyone get Christmas shirts this year for a family photo. Will have to try again next year because dad is blocked in all of them. 🙄
    - played Cooked Aussie drinking game and was so pleased with everyone’s participation - everyone even did a plank which I lost because I was laughing too hard.
    - Jess filmed the whole day because she wants to improve her skills - can’t wait to see it.
    - politic chats as usual. Bill simply unable to help himself.
    - did a fun jelly bean game with Jax and others. 50% chance of getting a disgusting flavor. I had to spit mine out. Was wheezing at Helen and Bills responses.
    - Sue was there and probably said “French champagne” 40 times during the day.
    - Will and Jax chucked/kicked the footy.
    - I got Will a salt gun which he enjoyed but we need to use rock salt next time.
    - One year we won’t bother with food. We always overeat the nibbles and then are too full.
    - pavlova for dinner. Always sensational.
    - Jonathan HATES Boots. Previous night I was on the loo and he started SCREAMING so loudly I ran into the kitchen without pulling my pants back up. I think he got swiped. Now avoids like his life depends on it. 🤣
    - Had left over potato salad in the evening but it had mini rock in it so I cracked my tooth which has pissed me off.
    - Boxing day morning I was awoken by Helen’s screams because boots brought a mouse inside an it was running around the house lol.

  • FIFA world cup

    12. august 2023, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

I am so proud of this country.

    What an absolutely amazing experience.

I found FIFA’s system of only releasing the tickets on the app 2 hours before the doors open to be extremely stressful but other than that I can’t fault anything.

We originally bought tickets months back because Will suggested we “go support the woman” (🥰) so we got our tickets for $50 each.
They are currently impossible to get.

Tonight’s match was the most watched TV program since Cathy Freeman 23 years ago.
    The hype is real.

We arrived and I was actually emotional by the amount of men. Men who were not just wearing Aussie clothes but Matilda gear.
Thousands of men who have paid to watch woman’s sport. Who have found it worthy.

I was also stocked for the other players other than Kerr to see their names on so many jerseys.

Our seats were really good - behind the goals to the right. We could see everything.

The national anthem at the start was so emotional. 75,000 - a sold out event singing as one to support the girls.

Fuck me the game was stressful. I actually think France was the better team - I was stressed the whole game because they were always in the bloody box or doing corners.

Sam Kerr has been off injured but played 3/4 of the game. The roar when she came on was a vibe.

She didn’t do any major plays but orchestrated so many plays. I understand the hype haha.

The referee was wearing a French jersey under her uniform the whole game….
    BUT ALL WAS FORGIVEN -
France scored and she disallowed it immediately because someone pulled on a player.
Immediately forgiven as she literally saved the match for us.

Over time I hateddddd. Proper anxiety. I want to lose in the 1st minute so I can come round to the idea - not in the 110th minute.

Then the penalty shoot out …. The longest shootout in FIFA history.
Fuck me, I’ll never recover hey. 😂

The girls next to me hd there arms around me in a huddle every shot. Real solidarity.

We finally won in the end and I feel so bad for the girl from France who missed and essentially lost it for them but in reality if your 10th in line to kick it’s not your job to do so.

The roar when we won. What a moment.
    Incredible.

Literally hugged the strangers around me.

Heart rate got to 157 during the shoot out.🤣🤣

Atmosphere was incredible - so blessed.

Follow up game was the most watched tv event in Australian history.
    ❤️

    18. februar 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Ash flew up to visit for my 30th and I had the most amazing time.

    We went to Australia Zoo.

We saw the croc show - didn’t get an Irwin but still fab.
Saw all the animals, saw some shows and talked crap. Elephant show in particular was awesome cause they went swimming.
Loved the otters, saw a wombat on a walk and just overall were very lucky as all animals were up and awake even the Komodo dragons were active.

I had such an amazing weekend and am so thankful to her for flying up to see me ❤️

Found our lounge and sat there for several hours. It had the best hot food selection we have had and also a really good dessert section.
Salads were all pre mixed though - everywhere else was better as you could make your own which I think is better for me.
Less obvious booze section too not that either of us have used it.
So many kids in the lounge.
Peak anxiety as we lined up to board. Will is absolutely shattered. Im better but would have a massive cry if we got denied entry again.
It’s face recognition to get on the plane, no documents needed. I went first and honestly when the gates opened it was the best feeling. We’re going home 😭😭
At least 5 kids near us. It’s an overnight flight so hopefully they crash out.
We think maybe a lot of people have been upgraded.
Maybe they are feeling nice because it’s New Years lol
They made a comment about you can switch seats after take off because lots of free seats and not everyone has been given pajamas? They were cross checking a list so we though maybe if you didn’t originally pay the $5000 no pajamas for you! 😆
We have put in our orders off the menu, so keen to go to bed, hopefully served quickly.

I ate dinner and crashed for about 3 hours but then I woke up and I was SO HOT I had to go to the bathroom to put water on my arms.
I then went back to sleep but not nearly as deeply. Woke up often but overall I reckon I got 6 hours sleep which I’m stoked about.

It’s currently 2.5 hours to go and we are keeeeeeen.
We got given Australian entry cards. I really though they stopped them, I have no memory of doing them the last few trips and nor does Will. 🤷🏼‍♀️ we have to declare Wills/Craig’s cigarettes.
You have to declare if you have over 25… that’s one pack.. doesn’t seem like very much lol.

Will slept 6 hours too. He has been converted to a business man he tells me 🙄

Watched some of the Harry Reunion even though I’ve seen it. I had the kings speech on for 30 seconds before I realized it went for 15 mins longer than the flight and it would annoy me to be so close and not finish so I turned it off. Might watch for a movie night cause it’s a fab movie.

    11 minutes until landing!!
WE GET TO SEE LITTLE DOG!!!!!
And everyone else, of course. 😅😆😆😆😆

Changed out of my Pjs. So happy I have 2 sets haha. Even Will is gonna keep his.
It’s hard to get changed in the toilets. The business is the same as economy. No much room, especially when changing pants.

I get a eyebrow/forehead pimple on 80% of long haul flights. Today is no different. One has made its appearance. Pleased the flight to the wedding was in the 20%!

I write this as the plane shakes from turbulence. Haaaaaate.

UPDATE - on the drive home dad mentioned a UA flight that had to do an emergency landing in Pago Pago due to an engine failure.

THE PLANE UA 839 WAS THE ONE WE WERE MEANT TO BE ON.
No longer mad at our circumstances.
Thank you God. What a miracle. I would have had to get a boat back to Australia.

  • Hollywood

    31. desember 2022, Forente stater

Got up quite early considering we went to bed 1am.
Up by 8:30 and was at the restaurant for breakfast by 9.
Our vouchers were for $15 each. Bill ended up being $50 so we owed $20.
But we mustn’t forget the $10 tip 🙃
I have my receipt of $29.37 ready to send to British airways as well as a picture of the menu with nothing under $15 ✌🏼
I had pancakes and they were good.
We then got an Uber to Hollywood Boulevard because why waste our time here. It’s gonna cost us a lot but there are people out there who would kill to be able to afford to visit Hollywood.
And we are here for free so let’s get going.
Uber wasn’t actually all that bad.
$24 and it took us over 30 minutes on highways.
There was a homeless man at the corner of a road ad he made me tear up as we were driving away.
I would have given him all of our $10 if I could. His little sign said anything is enough and I just 😭😭😭
He was so sad. A sort of hopelessness that I wouldn’t be surprised if he killed himself in the next week.
    Shattered for him.

Dropped us off and we went immediately to a souvenir shop to get a magnet so we can reminisce over this terrific experience.
Didn’t find the pink star magnet I envisioned so went walking to look elsewhere.
Lots of big name stars (obviously 🥴) but still a good chunk I didn’t know from different eras.
Found a fluro pink star. Not the pink I wanted (or that’s on literally every other tourist item) but will do.
The stars are technically red and white marble but mixed it makes a pink colour.
We went to McDonald’s to steal their Wi-Fi and wet hunting for a props museum. On the way we took a closer look at the famous Chinese theatre where all the famous people do their hands and footprints. Lots of great ones - Harry Potter, Twilight, Avengers, Star Wars and Hunger Games casts.
I’m sure Big Bang did one but couldn’t find it.
Other huge names like Michael Jackson, Robin Williams, George Clooney, Johnny Depp etc.
Really enjoyed this and glad we went back because we walked straight past it the first time haha.

Found the prop museum and it was a real highlight my only complain is it was guided tour and he went through soooo fast. I’m trying to take pictures here!!! 😆
$20 each and just great. Really great.
Highlights were Orc heads from Lord of the Rings (75% one was the one that ends up on the spike in the second movie) Dinosaurs from Jurassic Park, Katniss’ suit, Voldemort’s Robes and screen wand, Luke Skywalkers light saber from VI, some aliens from ‘Men in Black’, Anthony Hopkins mask and straight jacket from Silence of the Lambs, Jack Nicolson’s axe and jacket from ‘The Shining’, the Walking Dead zombie heads, Robin Williams’ Mrs Doubtfire costume, Christopher Lloyds back to the future costume and remote, the baby grinch in a high chair and lots of Marvel stuff like Thors Hammer and Iron man’s suit.
    We had a great time.

We then decided because here, let’s go to the wax museum. It was $35 each for the wax museum and Guinness records museum or $30 for one so we bought the double wammy ticket even if expensive.
It was so unbelievably bad that I’m not even mad. It’s past the point of being ripped off that’s it’s funny.
Lady in front of us was seething 😆
Could at least tell who 70% of the wax figures were meant to be but half of them I had just seen the real prop down the road on a better figuring 😆😆
Oh man it was bad. We went through quite quickly.
Then walked across the road to the Guinness book of records museum. EVEN WORSE 😆😆😆😆
Outdated info and so much writing and all interactive which I don’t enjoy. We did play a game where we threw balls at a target and had to fill up a digital water cup. We played 2 times but don’t know why this was even in the museum.
Only 3 things I like was the bit on the oldest man, tallest man and fastest 100m in high heels which was 14 seconds and I reckon that’s bloody impressive.
    Garage. Top level garbage.

Called an Uber. Driver was ultra dumb and opinionated.
Favourite comment was he didn’t like somewhere because there are too many white people.
World is wicked racist yes, but it is reversible and if you can’t say it one way you shouldn’t be able to say it the other.
I would never say don’t go there because there are too many black people.
    Racism doesn’t fix racism.
He was Caucasian looking but probably actually Hispanic.
He had lots of opinions on Australia that were wrong but we were polite. No getting shot today.
Took us to the Petersen automotive museum.

    Something that never happens happened.
Waiting in line and a guy was like I have an extra ticket, do you guys want it?
YES PLEASE. BLESS YOU KIND STRANGER.

I don’t know what we looked at.
Cars. Lots of cars. Will had the best time and got all hot and bothered about so many of them but to me… we saw cars. That’s it hahaha
It had a few from movies that I liked like the delirium from back to the future and the van from scooby doo.
    Hyercars was Wills favourite section.

Caught an Uber back to the hotel.
Not a bad crack - 4 museum and a walk down the boulevard.
I’m trying not to be bitter we didn’t realize the Hollywood museum was right around the corner cause it has most of the other big props. Would have loved to go there too. Next time.

Went to lunch in the Resturant. Our bill was 52c and he didn’t ask for a tip because he never gave us a pen to write one. We wrote one at the end but don’t know how it works so don’t know if he gets it. Not mad if he gets it, he was nice.

Sitting in our room. Have a new dog situation update but need to talk with everyone once home.

Checked out and headed to the airport on the shuttle bus.

Went to check in. “Errr we can’t find your booking, our system says you flew out last night”
    BRUH.
They did find it and we checked in. It should not be this hard, why don’t the systems talk to each other???
No dog sniffer tonight and customs still very quick. I was a little nervous their system was going to say you left America last night…
But we got through so that’s a relief.
Customs people are so rude. I understand it must be the most infuriating job because people are the worst but they just yell at you.
2 different Asian men got screamed at for not following instructions and workers were all attitude like “it’s not that hard” blah blah blah.
Very blatantly obvious neither man spoke fluent English. Yelling is pointless.
Yell at me in French I won’t understand, doesn’t matter how loud you are, volume is not the reason I’m not listening.
Also American, your customs are not the universal system. Shoes off isn’t an everywhere thing and he isn’t stupid for not knowing he is meant to do that.

  • Transit

    29. desember 2022, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

    Great mood this morning.
    We are off! 🎉
Will was so excited he even packed last night. 😆
Had a quick rinse in the shower then we were off.
Walked to Piccadilly Circus then got the tube to the airport.
We judged how much to put on our Oyster cards really well. Only about 3£ each left in the end.
The train took about an hour and I was 80% sure on what terminal. Terminal 5.
    Got it right ✌🏼
I’m very overwhelmed with all the documentation.
Since booking our flight details have changed 4 or 5 times - we booked with American Airlines but are flying British airways and Qantas.
They all have different booking references and flight time and I honestly just don’t know where we are meant to be.
Waited an hour so we could check in with a real person.

    “I’m sorry I can’t find your booking”

    Off to a cracking start.

British airways sent me an email about uploading Covid documents so I at least had my booking reference for them so he found it.
Didn’t look very hard did you. 🙃
    Never had that happened before.

Next good news - our flight is delayed and we will miss our connection. 🫠🫠🫠🫠

I am very uncomfortable about everything.
I don’t trust our check in guy.
Have accepted we will miss flight which our boarding passes say leaves LA at 8:45pm, so we have looked at other possible Qantas flights tonight they could put us on and there is 2 others at 10:30.

Except 10:30 is the one we are meant to be on????? And everybody’s website except our boarding pass says 10:30 departure not 8:45????
It’s still tight but could we make it?
Only now even less likely because we have to collect our bags because the dude was like you land after departure, go get your bags and go straight to the help desk when you arrive.
Clarified with him 5 times that our bags are not going straight through.
“No you must collect at LA”
Ok. Gotcha. (Stay tuned for different story)

    I am so confused 😭😭😭
How could you not find out booking? Have you put us on a different flight I don’t understandddddddd

I’d rather miss is outright cause we hadn’t arrived because they have to fix rather than a gray area of “well you were quick enough” and it becomes our fault.

Check in man originally said he couldn’t print our 2 boarding passes because second flight is moot but both were printed and I’m glad it says a departure time after our arrival. It will be my ‘Exhibit A’ when arguing why we didn’t hurry to make it.
Because we can’t prove any of the conversation we had with the check in man. 👍🏼

Considering all the strikes, the airport wasn’t busy at all.
It also had a feature we both liked which was pictures of little people depicting how busy the North and South security lines were. North way busier than south most of the time.
We found a business lounge but the guy was like go to the other one it’s better.
So we caught a tram one stop.
Lounge was lovely, got super comfy seats.
    Lots of yummy food.
I love that you can make your own drinks. Could have a whole bottle of vodka if you wanted.
I made my own nachos with a mountain of sour cream. Person behind me was waiting.
Hang on a minute please I’m busy 😆
Also had some tomato/cucumber with balsamic 🤤
    Their mashed potato was crap.

    So confused I can’t even.
I’m so angry about the communication.
American Airlines saying we leave at 6:30, British airlines and airport saying 5:30.
American Airlines saying we arrive 6:35pm. British have given no time but my automated email from flight center is saying 8:50pm.
    These are very different.

Eventually got given a gate and caught the train back to it.
    460 people on our flight.

We went and spoke to a worker because we are beyond confused and wanted some clarification.
Asked when are we arriving and he said should be 8:40.
Thank you flight center you were at least close.
    American Airlines, come on man.
We then inquired about our departing plane.
He has no idea why our ticket says 8:45 (his system does too) cause when he googled the flight number it’s 10:30.
So we have a little bit of hope.

He said our luggage ticket says our bags are going straight through to Sydney and we don’t need to collect.

Have text dad to update him with nothing really other than to say we don’t know when we will arrive.

Boarded plane and business not nearly as good as Qantas. And kids everywhere.
In fairness it has a kid vibe though. Qantas was leather seats with polished wood this is just economy with more space.
Will isn’t going to able to lie down and I’m facing backwards. Lol
I do like that I’m in a corner and near a toilet so everyone doesn’t stare at me when I go the the toilet 100 times. Lol

The entertainment on board is garbage, or rather the set up is.
No option to just show all movies? Have to search all 39 genres.
For TV it shows every episode rather than pick a series you want to watch and then it will show you the episode.
In conclusion lots of unnecessary scrolling haha.

    Have successfully taken off.
Hatteeeeeeeeee take off in an airbus. Takes too long to get in the air, I panic 😂

    Announcement over the loud speaker.
“All passengers will need to collect bags if transferring domestic or internationally”

Going to lose my shit soon. Don’t care the circumstances but can we all just agree on what that is please.

Food was delicious. Especially some cous cous thing with sour cream. Had some slow cooked beef chucks which were great too.

A worker came and told us we have been put on another flight with United airlines.
25 minutes later than our Qantas one…
Doesn’t give us that much extra wiggle room.

We want Qantas cause Will fits but I think his desire to get home for New Years trumps his fly with Qantas desires. He may regret though as we don’t know what their business looks like.
But ok, we are flying United Airlines. 💪🏻

Read lots of my book and watched a movie. Unbelievable. Normally can’t watch them on planes. But every plane this trip I have wanted to watch but not watched..
I watched ‘Good luck to you, Leo Grande’ which made me laugh out loud on the plane even though it’s not a comedy. I don’t know what you would class it as but both actors, especially Emma Thompson deserves an Oscar.

Will read some of his book. The most newsworthy event of the day really.

Alrighty. 10 mins from landing. Must rush to find people at “the top of the stairs” who will help us cause I have questions about our bags… and how we board a new plane when I don’t have a boarding pass for it.

Hope the airport has Wi-Fi so I can message dad or I’ll have to activate my sim.

My review for British airways airbus is if it was significantly cheaper to fly then Qantas I’d fly again but just the little things like my seat taking 40 pushes of the button to recline which all up genuinely took like 15 minutes. That’s fine I can deal BUT the only place for storage is under the bed in a box I can’t access to get anything out all flight cause didn’t want to deal with the bed.
No shelf to put my phone, had to put it in my shirt so it didn’t fall and get stuck in the seat. I mentioned the crap entertainment system already and my phone had been on charge for 5 hours and gone up 6%. Thankfully we don’t appear to be stranded so it should last until the next flight.
I drained a lot of it on this flight making my video which will end up being about 1h32mins 😅

But really main one is Will doesn’t fit. I fit but only just and I’m not tall.

    I have loveeeeeed my corner.

The food had been great and staff were the noticeable highlight. They have so many workers it’s great.

Am currently lying in a deliciously comfortable bed in LA -
STRAP IN FOR THE MOST RIDICULOUS EXPERIENCE.

    Got off the plane.
Found the lady we were meant to find. She gave us fluro orange express pass things and our NEW flight number of QF12
BRUUUUUUH THAT IS OUR ORIGINAL FLIGHT 🤦🏼‍♀️

I was feeling lucky because we got off the plane first we got through customs quick. If you are 450th of the plane you are going to be there a while.
Worker there didn’t care about our fluro pass. We waited. Line we picked naturally had someone before us who needed to supply a mountain of documentation.
    Hurry up. 😩
Wouldn’t have mattered anyway because then came the bag carousel drama. 20 minutes for our bags to arrive.
Then we RACED to drop them off again going off a very non detailed instructions of where to go.
To race quicker Will ripped his bag tag off.
We fixed this problem once we arrived and I didn’t let my feelings known about his decision regarding this, but honestly how stupid are you. How is your bag getting to Sydney without your tag on it????
Anyway. It still had some stick so reattached and put on the carousel.
Then had to get through customs.
I got yelled at by a lot of people and workers for going under barrier lines and running past people.
No one cared about our express signs.
Had to get sniffed by a dog, have passports checked again, do TSA, we SPRINTED through the airport sweating like pigs and arrived for our flight in time.
Told dad plan A is going ahead.

    JOKES.

Tried to get on the plane.
Gate wouldn’t open so was sent to see a worker.

British airways cancelled our booking. 🫠🫠🫠🫠
Not allowed on the plane because we have no booking.
And this guy was an absolute wanker too. Not even a fake sorry. Just a big ol tough titties attitude.
Had to force info out of him like
ok what do we do now then??
    Wasn’t his problem.
    Prick.

Sent us to British airways ticketing.
All staff left for the evening 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠
Found one lady who found her manager who had been at the airport for over 14 hours by now who deserves a raise.
2 others in the same pickle but not going Sydney. They have NYE Fiji plans with a friend and now that friend will be celebrating alone. 😬
We were there about 1.5 hours but in that time we got booked on a delta flight for tomorrow evening at 8pm but we asked if we could be put on the later Qantas one if available as we know he fits and it’s only 2 hours different. So she went and did that for us.
Meanwhile, a man from Qantas we found (who also deserves a raise) went and found our bags for us.
He said British airways has developed quite the reputation of late and our bags were never making it even if we did.
I’ll say. Will not fly again. I have never experienced such incompetent ridiculousness.
I know I complain a lot but most of the time I don’t really mean it. I’m not actually bothered, I’m just talking crap.
But WOWWZA today has been HARD for real.

By the end we have a new Qantas flight, food vouches and accommodation for 2 nights.

Some very feral people will be joining us shortly and they have my sympathies.
In order to check if we could have 2 nights accommodation rather than one so we didn’t have to check out in the morning m, the lady called to confirm with the hotel only to find out her colleague only booked 5 rooms in the hotel for the evening when it was meant to be 7.
The lady had sent a 6th over so they will be reappearing shortly to say the hotel denied them 😬
But because of this we got put in a better hotel.
    Food vouchers for most meals.
    But gratuity not included 🙃🙃🙃
I see red when it comes to tipping, I really do. Vividly and immediately.

Caught the shuttle. Absolutely no signage asked 3 people for help but eventually found and taken to the door.

Had trouble finding our booking, but we got there.
Have checked in and eaten with food vouchers.
Didn’t tip. Will have to tip tomorrow which I’m furious about. Going to send the bill to British airways as per the instructions of the lady I think deserves a raise.

LAX is the stupidest airport. Will not fly through there again unless visiting USA.

    I’m done I tell you.
We can’t reaaaallly afford it but we have pushed our work start dates back a few days and will start on the 9th. We both need to sit without this garbage.
The stress has just been so constant.
The entire world has honestly just shat itself and hasn’t fixed itself yet. Everything has been a mess.
    Bed time.
Silver lining is Will hasn’t been to LA and we have a whole day.

    Bed time thank goodness.

Also we aren’t sure but we think someone took a piss in the sink on the plane. Very bubbly but unlikely to be champagne. No one walked in with champagne.

    Took a picture, of course.

    28. desember 2022, England ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

    Last day 🎉
Went to get Will a haircut because apparently he absolutely must have one. 😂
They were booked until 2pm so we went to lunch first, back at the Indian we tried yesterday.
Walked in and definitely not the one I went to with Mum and dad. One day I will find it and I will have the yellow butter chicken again.. but not today. :(
    And it was terrible 🤣🤣🤣
    Completely covered in coriander. Disaster.
    And then just pure oil.
Whatever. Last day good vibes only. ✌🏼✌🏼🤣🤣

Went back and sat in the hotel until haircut time. Will went to that and I went souvenir browsing.
I really wanted to buy a Queen bobble head I found - I also went to a Harry potters store which is probs the best store I’ve ever been too merchandise wise. Nearly bought half the shop but walked out empty handed. Very proud of myself.
In a BIG Harry Potter mood of late because of the game coming out.
Went back to collect Will then we headed to the museums for our exhibit “Hieroglyphs: unlocking ancient Egypt”
Line less chaotic than yesterday but still long considering it was 4pm, sun pretty much set and it was raining.
    Exhibit was good.
I wish I was smarter. History is too complicated 😆😆
A few things I read I was like oh yes that rings a bell from school but man oh man, putting timelines together is hard.
We saw the Rosetta Stone, which has the same decree written in 3 languages which is how they Finley cracked the hieroglyphics code.
    ✔️✔️
They thought the pictures were stories rather than having actual phonetic sounds.
Lots of other stones and fabric scrolls with inscriptions.
    Also a section on burial.
It had one section with organs in jars which I loved 😆
“Canopic jars preserved the organs of the deceased. The inscriptions on these jars record the name of the owner, Ahmose, as well as the relevant protective deity: Imset, the human-headed god, preserved the liver, baboon-headed Hapi cared for the lungs, the falcon-headed Qebehsenuef looked after the intestines while the jackal-headed Duamutef protected the stomach. This is the first time this set of jars has been reunited since the mid-1700s.”

Uploaded a pic of the jars. A real highlight hahaha

I forgot they use to weigh the heart to determine if good or bad. Can’t remember all the details from school and the exhibit didn’t really go into it but need to follow up and re learn.

Strolled through a bit of the general Egypt sections. The museum is stupid huge. Been 4 times and I haven’t seen everything.

Went to get one last poke bowl. Can’t wait to make our own at home - then walked to parliament to have a look. Then walked home and packed.
    Bags are tiiiiight. Hahah
Also made Will do Harry Potter quiz and he got Gryffindor with Slytherin as a close second.

I went down to the Christmas markets in Leicester square and bought one final Christmas ornament with out converted 25€ because a lot of coins and can’t convert, so must spend.
And have had trouble spending cause most places have been card only.
Got a corgi with a crown cause the queen died this year.
Didn’t want a London bus or phone booth.
Will and his bowel spent some the time reacting to the oil from lunch. It came later than we expected but came nonetheless haha.

Will still hungry at 9pm so got some McDonald’s.
    Bed now.

Big day tomorrow. Hope it goes smoothly.

Slept in later than intended. Very tired lol.

Decided to do the museum first rather than laundry first because we booked 2 separate times for the museum and the first one was coming up.
About a 1km walk. The line was around the corner but did move quickly and we joined an even quicker line because we already had tickets.
All based on honesty though because no one ever checked out tickets.
Went straight the the Egypt section because have come specifically to see the Rosetta Stone and I love the mummies.
I saw some of the Egypt stuff like a couple of skeletons/mummified people like the Gebelein man, some sarcophagus stuff and some of the coffins/mummies.
Will was looking for the stone the whole time and couldn’t find it.

Of course the circumstances are that the Rosetta stone Is free to see at all times….
BUT currently there is a hieroglyphics exhibition so is been moved to that and the exhibition isn’t free is it 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
But we came specifically to see so we headed to the ticket office.
Only availability is in 3 hours time 😬😬😬
So we are going to do washing and try again tomorrow 😪
Walked past an exchange place on the way back and I’m fucking FURIOUS.
We gave 25€ we had left over to get us some ££ to do the laundry.
    25€ is $40.

    We got 11£ back 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

    Which is $19.
    Absolutely go get fucked.

Exchange rate was shocking but they also conveniently forgot to mention the service fee AND handling fee.
Big “no refunds” signs all over the window so the transaction was done.
    LIVID.

I don’t mind spending money but I loatheeeee wasting it and feeling like I’ve been tricked out of it. I need that $20 dammit. 😩

    I smell a review 😆

Walked past a few pubs until we found one with a good menu.
    Lovely little area.
We both got pies with carrots, mash with gravy and it was delicious!!
Walked home. I bought tickets for the museum tomorrow in the late afternoon and applied for a dog - his name is cookie. Stupid name. He is 7kg so maybe too big but worth a shot.

Have walked to the laundry place and it is a bit of a drama 😆
How to say politely that we are in an area where people can’t afford washing machines and that’s why they are here.
A lady works here and she is very flamboyant and funny but everyone else is a question mark.
Worker lady was talking about how her son and daughter in law are struggling with their baby and one dude who was stick figure thin and very clearly a big druggy and dumb asked her “Do you think I should live with them” and she spun her way out of that one but he was dead set serious as if we would be helpful and it was really funny to listen to.
No weird stranger I don’t want to live with my family ??? 😆
Will had to go for a walk for coins as the coins only take 1£ coins
And BECAUSE THE 11£ WE EXCHANGED WASN’T ENOUGH 🫠🫠🫠🫠
How is $40 not enough for one load of washing 😪
In fairness it would have been had we not been robbed.
Anyway. He had to get out another 20 and convert all into 1’s which the local shopkeeper was well pleased about.
Have done washing, we are now drying.
    The place is very busy.

Walked home in the rain. Heaviest rain we have had since being here so have actually been really lucky overall. Forecast had predicted rain so we brought our rain jackets with us and covered the washing with them.
Walked the 2km home and found an Indian we wanted to go to for dinner.
Walked there and the line was down the street. Line was down the street for every Resturant. It was like time square in NY. Where did all the people come from????? Couldn’t get in anywhere so we went to the Christmas market and got a sausage an chips.
    Then churros.
Hurried back home as the crowds were really too much.
    Will watching videos.

I am going to start my new book. I have wasted 2 hours of my life trying to find a recap of the last 3 books in the series cause I read the third book over 2 years ago (really need to pick book series that are already finished. This waiting around for years is bothersome, albeit exciting when the date finally arrives)
And I FINALLY FOUND ONE 😭
I found 1000 opinions but only one wonderful person did a factual recount. Bless them.

Have got an email about uploading documents for our flight home which we have decided not to do as there is a footnote saying you can do it at the airport.
A risky moves because of the strike but as we are business our line is shorter. And we are going home rather than to somewhere and I can only upload a print screen anyway as not at a computer and don’t have the documents soooo

We plan to get there heaps early anyway.
    So soon!!! 🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻

Woke up and about 15 minutes later the fire alarm went off, glad I was already awake or my heart would have given out, fire alarms send me over the edge for some reason which I suppose they are suppose to do. The noise sends adrenaline pumping around my body and I get the shakes which is so stupid and completely involuntary 😆😆😆
And annoying. Calm down it’s just noise 😆😆😆
It’s stopped but kept coming back on again so wasn’t sure if real or not. (Thats the big problem with the required practice evacuations, no one takes them seriously when real. 😆)
    So i went downstairs.
Went down with 4 others - we are the top floor of course it so took a while to reach the bottom - we set off about 3 stair alarms along the way.

Walked round the side of the building and asked reception - just confirming not real alarms and she looked at me like I was stupid.
“It’s Monday, we test the alarms on Monday”
And how and why would I know that ??

Had to wait 10 mins in the foyer before the elevators were re activated to go back up. Was not walking the 47 flights back up.

Read some of my book then headed to ‘Flat Iron’ to meet Bronte.

We were early and put our name on the wait list (25 mins) then waited.
She is an on time person. Hurray!
We went to find Will some water then headed back and sat at the bar before our table was ready.
Really good food. Not enough but really good!
It’s a steak and sides, that’s it. But they have mastered it.
We got heaps of sides and it added up very quickly but worth it.
We then went to a bar in covent garden and had some beers. They argued a lot over whose beer is better.
Bronte is an excellent conversationalist. Very easy to pick straight back up from where we left off.
Will and Bronte complete opposite political spectrums and we nearly went into dangerous waters but I think they both did really well haha
We talked for hours so missed any chance of seeing a matinee show like we had considered.
    Gave her big hugs bye.
She is going to stay in London, is currently deciding whether to take a new job or not - more money but she doesn’t think recession proof and broke up with Chris so is having fun on the dating scene. Bea is well.

Hung out at the hotel then went out for Ramen for dinner.
Will liked his mine was garbage, but I’m proud I tried it haha. I was hoping my broth would be like mi goreng but it was bland meat water.
Back home. Hope to finish my book tonight.

    Finished my book. 🕺🏻

    25. desember 2022, England ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

    What a crap Christmas.
Will made a joke about getting the noose out and I think that sums it up really.
Facebook flooded with everyone with family and we are stuck in our hotel room because everything is shut. Even McDonalds is shut.
Oh and the Resturant cancelled our dinner reservations overnight so nowhere to go for dinner. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

We did find a Burger King with about 1000 people in it for lunch. The only thing in London open. They would have made a FORTUNE.
Then luckily our hotel had a Resturant that was open for dinner and had openings so at least we ate today.
And in fairness it was actually lovely. Loveeeee carrots.

Great we are together and not alone alone but have spent literally every second of the last 2 months together so nothing to talk about and still a very very lonely day.

We did get a stocking on our door with biscuits and 3 oranges lol. Don’t care we don’t like the biscuits, the surprise was nice.

I’ve read some of my book.
    And that’s summarizes our Christmas.

Not to be dramatic but worst Christmas I’ve ever had. Lol
Can definitely always be worse and I have reminded myself of that all day. No one is dead or dying, we are just lonely.
Also today is about Jesus, not me, so have read some bible verses too.

Have planned with Bronte for tomorrow so at last something to do.
We are very bored. Wish we could come home now.

    Nearly there.

Oh. We patted a pug while eating our hungry jacks and both really like them so their breed had been added to our potential second dog list.

    24. desember 2022, England ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Both bins are full, ours towels need replacing (used a few on the floor because on day 1 when I turned on the shower it came out the holdable nozzle and not the ceiling shower but the nozzle was facing sidewards and it seems our shower is not sealed properly so escaped snd flooded the floor lol.) and we are out of toilet paper so we required room service which means we had to clean our room before we left. Took a minute 😅😅
We then changed our sign to please clean so hopefully they see it.

We headed towards the tube. In theory it is running today but may have delays. All overground is not running.
Caught it to tower hill again and got some subway for lunch. Nothing is universal, what’s available is always different.
Except their macadamia nut cookies ie the best cookies in the world.
Walked to the Jack the Ripper museum.
Overall quick and fun but odd.
Will had to go in first in case they had live actors. They did not thank goodness.
There are 5 rooms all up.
    - crime scene
    - what the murderers house might look like
    - detectives room
    - victims bedroom
    - morgue

All rooms had info on the wall.

Room one was pretty basic decoration wise as it meant to be a dark alley.
“The scene is set in Mitre Square, where the 6th
victim, Catherine Eddowes was killed. Her horribly
mutilated body was discovered by a policeman, P.C. Edward Watkins, on his regular night patrol.”

I though room 2 was a bit silly. It was the one with the most detail and decoration but in reality they how absolutely no idea who Jack the Ripper is so all speculation. They dressed the room as if he were a surgeon and had books open on scientific working of the body and like medical tools around the place.

Room 3 had letters Jack sent and then typed up version making it easy to read them.
A lot of taunts and a detectives board with string trying to piece it all together.

    It also had some artifacts.
“These 4 items all belonged to Police Constable (P.C.) Edward Watkins of the City of London Police. He was carrying them in the early hours of 30 September, 1888, when he discovered the mutilated body of Catherine Eddowes in Mitre
Square, Aldgate. Because of their historic interest, P.C. Watkins kept the items, which passed
down through the generations after his death. They have been in private ownership for over a century and this is the first time they have been put on public display.”

Room 4 had info on most victims. All/most struggling with life and working as prostitutes to get by after family breakdowns.
A song was playing through a speaker - a song Mary Jane Kelly sang the night she was murdered.

Then back down to the bottom level of the building or room 5.
Morgue pictures of all 8 dead woman. Some aren’t too horrendous to look at but 2 are very bad. One horrendous which I remember seeing when doing to the tour with Mum and dad.
Very confronting. This was of Mary Jane Kelly, the youngest and last victim.

On all the stairways they had extracts of newspapers of the time talking about the murders.

His crimes did have a small positive effects on the slums as they were examined by society so closely and deemed unacceptable.
“The playwright George Bernard Shaw commented that Jack the Ripper had done more to throw spotlight on the terrible conditions in the East End than any reformer.”

It was the only thing open today to do - it was different and we enjoyed it.

We then walked across tower bridge and walked along the river until we got to the Globe because Will hadn’t seen it. Told him my fun fact of its the only building in London allowed to have a thatched roof which I have re confirmed is actually true this evening haha. Have to fact check hahah.
Also walked past the HMS Belfast, London Bridge a the bridge in Harry Potter 7.
Walked through markets and found a Starbucks which had a white hot chocolate 🤤🤤
We googled a place for us to go buy Will some socks cause his have died.
Ended up deciding to go to a shopping center because I would like to get a cord for my kindle as we will probably be stuck inside most of tomorrow.
    Weird it’s Christmas tomorrow.
There was a Westfields 10km away but on a metro line so we headed to that and hoped trains kept running until we were finished or would have to get a cab.
Walked to the station next to St Paul’s and walked straight onto a tram. Awesome.
Weird ass layout. And huge. Not that busy considering it’s Christmas Eve. Was successful in both our searches.
Trams were still running so caught 2 to get home.
They aren’t that crammed either. I think everyone has made alternate plans rather than risk it.
    We are home now.
    They cleaned our room 🕺🏻

Went to the Christmas markets for dinner but they were shut.. so popped into shake shack as only fast food available.
Ate it back in our room.
How the Grinch stole Christmas starting soon so that’s our Christmas Eve plans.
