Gullfoss Falls & Northern Lights
11. Oktober in Island ⋅ ☀️ 0 °C
The last stop of the tour was the Gullfoss Falls where we had about 45 minutes. It wasn’t a long walk from the car park to the falls and they were rather spectacular. You could walk up around the cliff and look down on the falls and the take the steps down to experience the noise and spray a little closer.
Then we had a 2 hour bus trip back to base in which many people grew sleepy, including myself so I pulled out my crochet to work on cos I didn’t want to miss the views out the window! I was amused to hear a lady click clacking her knitting needles behind me - great minds think alike!
Eli finished work around 4.15 so we met at the hotel and headed out for a walk around. We were undecided what to do tonight. Apparently it had been a fantastic Aurora the night before and tonight was looking promising. But the tour was from 9-12am and we had to be up early to catch the plane. We decided it was a once in a lifetime opportunity (for Eli at least - Kyria and I were planning to try and see them in Finland) so we would do it.
The bus took us about an hour out of town as complete darkness improved the chances of a good view and stopped off somewhere in the dark. We all got out and right above us was the Aurora Borealis! It moved and twisted at times, changing shape across the sky which was cool. We were able to get some good photos but….what you can see in the photos is not what I saw. Am I the only one who thought you would see beautiful green colours dancing in the sky with your own eyes?!? I mean, I know you don’t see it as well as the camera but I thought we would see some colour! If we hadn’t been told it was the Aurora I would have just thought it was a strange silver cloud shifting in the sky. I was soo disappointed! I’m still feeling ripped off! Plus it was freeeezing cold!
We were glad to get back on the bus after 20-30 minutes of being outside. Although, they turn the heaters up so high you end up feeling suffocated by the warmth because you’re all dressed in your coats and beanies. I heard a few complaints about the heat!
Eli and I were glad to fall into bed when we finally got back to the hotel.Weiterlesen
