Day 31b. Carrión de Los Condes, Camino.

    September 4, 2019 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

We walked up the hill from the church to Villacazar de Sirga and found George and Bernie from last night's dinner having a coffee in a cafe. We chatted briefly and then moved on.
The old and new paths joined in this little village and continued on as a gun barrel straight track to Carrión de Condes next to the road. The pilgrims seemed to bunch up as we went up a steep rise before the town. There were so many Pilgrims on the trail today but so few yesterday. It seems impossible.
We bumped into George and Bernie again now in the Carrión main square. George’s brother and wife had come to pick them up by car. This was the end of their Camino for this year. We went off to find an Albergue for the night and then come back to join them for a beer and tapas.
The Albergues were full so we had to take a Hostal room again at €45 at Hostal Santiago El Capricho de Carrión. We just didn't want to lug our packs from place place to try to find an albergue bunk bed for €10 each just to miss out completely on accommodation.

After drinks came the usual chores: shower, washing and this very blog.

Day 31c. Carriòn de Los Condes, Camino.

    September 4, 2019 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

We had dinner at Cafeteria Los Condes in the main square Ron had a ham, prosciutto and mushroom pizza and beer and I had a seafood paella and sangria. It was very good. Our fellow pilgrims were in the Albergues for dinner tonight.

Carrión de los Condes during medieval times was a town of between 10,000 and 12,000 inhabitants, nowadays there are just over 2,000. The town also used to have at least 12 churches and several pilgrim hospitals.
The Church of Santiago was built in the middle of the 12th century. It suffered several alterations over the centuries, including a major fire in 1811, which resulted in a mixture of architectural styles throughout the church. The western façade was built around 1160-1170 and is one of the culminating points of the Romanesque art in Spain.

    Carrion de los Condes

    July 8, 2018 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Very slow WiFi - So who knows when this post will go up. I am spoiled with WiFi speeds at home🙂

    July 8th

We had a very short day miles wise with only 10 or 11 miles to Carrión de Los Condes, but walking on a path with the scenery the same and no hills made it seem further than it was. It seemed like we would never get to the town we could see in the distance.

    Memories from today:
    1. Mirabelle crocheting me a tiny backpack to put my stone in 💕🙂
    2. Early morning coffee stop with ping pong, a melted chocolate bar, a baby lamb, laughter, and Chong serenading us on guitar.
    3. Meeting Patu, who has been walking for 45 days through France and Spain after receiving a bone marrow transplant to cure his cancer. Amazing man!
    4. Eating dinner and having a beer under cover during a thunderstorm
    5. Viewing the ancient church artifacts in the church Iglesia de Santiago

Something weird happened and too complicated to explain, but yesterday’s wifi published with great difficulty the photos that people have already liked and commented on, but somehow when I now with better wifi put up some more, it thought I was editing and deleted the originals...oh they are again..just for the record...Read more

Easy walk to Carrión de los Condes

    September 21, 2018 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

I say it was an easy walk because we didn’t arrive hot and bothered, and it was 21 kms on a level track. We saw that this walk had 2 alternatives, one just following the road and the other through fields and by the river...we of course opted for the latter, but you had to be a bit observant as both ways had inviting arrows...and many people chose (or accidentally followed) the road which would have been very boring. We happily didn’t make the fatal error and followed a pleasant path through fields and then along the river, in shade, so for the entire morning we were pleasantly cool.

We turned and joined the road walkers at a little town where there is a famous Templar church, now a national monument, Santa Maria la Blanca, which we looked at and remembered from last time. From there we also had no alternative than to follow the track alongside the road for the last 5 kms into Carrión de Los Condes. We remembered this stage as rather hot and awful, but there was a breeze and we arrived unruffled!! And we knew where to find our beautiful hotel, right through the town and out the other side on the Camino. It was a monastery and is I think the fanciest hotel we stay in the whole way! So we are enjoying the whole experience, at the moment having a drink and a small snack of croquetas as dinner isn’t till 8.

    Carrión De Los Condes

    February 17 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

The drive out of the village this morning was a littke hairy but we made it without incident. After a long day driving we parked up at the edge of town and took a stroll. Nice location close to a river and park area. We entered the town over a lovely stone bridge and found a bar open with outside seating, dogs aren't welcome in most bars across Spain, and enjoyed a beer. We are feeling the temperature change as we travel north and it was pretty cold sitting outdoors. The town has some lovely buildings but like most places there doesn't seem to be enough people to populate the amount of houses and apartments.Read more

    Carrion de los Condes

    September 8, 2019 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

    October 4, 2019 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

    Dag lieve volgertjes,

Kort gezegt hrt was onhoudbaar.

    September 9, 2019 in Spain ⋅ 🌙 6 °C

Read more
