    Day 7- Last day

    Today started with a nice walk up the hill behind the house. Cathal showed me the place where he sometimes go for a swim. A lovely little tub in the river just below a little waterfall. Back to the cottage to grab my bags and do some last shopping of some favorites on the way to the bus. Ivan now sitting in the airport waiting to board the plane home. Feeling very grateful for the last view days. Got to spend quality time with dear old friends, in beautiful nature and having great homemade food. Back home it’s the start of a new chapter.     Day 6

    Day 6- Bye Ross

    After breakfast and a last game of Backgammon Ross said Good Bye and drove back to Galway. So it’s just Cathal and myself today. We went on a beautiful hike of about 12 km and it is a perfect day for it. Sun is out and the sky is blue. We went on top of the mountain across the lake from the cottage. Great views. Tonight is my last night in Ireland so we‘ll have dinner, play cards and the go for a night walk. Walking in the dark is magic, Moon and the stars and no street lights or any other light pollution. Not a soul around but us. This place really is special.Read more

    Day 5 - Getting creative

    It’s a relaxing day today. Went for a morning loop around the lake, another walk to pick some rushes for making St. Bridget’s crosses. Also picked some green stuff for the advent wreath. Ross made lovely apple tarts and with that we went to see Valery next door. It was delicious. We had a gin tonic over there as well and continue with those here at the cottage. Finishing the evening with a lovely dinner of leftovers and competative card games.Read more

    Day 4 Chill and Spin

    It’s been a little rainy this morning. So after a very late night we all had a sleep in and went for a spin after lunch. Drove to Sally Gap, Glenmacnass Waterfalls and then to Logh Tay- the Guiness lake. The land is owned by the Guinness family. We went for a walk in the reservoir at Roundwood, had a stop in a lovely little cafe and now it’s time for some dinner. Ross is cooking some sausages and mash. Looking forward to that.     Day 3 Hike

    Today was a beautiful hiking day with Ross. While Cathal went to Dublin for the day to get his radio course finished, Ross and I took on the white trail in the park. About 8k with 600 m elevations. It took us about 4 hours with nice little tea breaks and photo stops. This park is just beautiful. Edler that Ross made a lovely breakfast- quite a gourmet he is! We all went together to the restaurant in the evening and the local pub after. Finished off the day at 4 am after watching Withnail and I for the … time- I lost count.     Day 2

    Day 2- Checking it out

    Today started with some Yoga and a lovely walk around the lake. The scenery is just breathtaking and lights change by the moment. I feel really blessed to be here and grateful. I got to chat to some locals, visitors and made friends with a Robin. After some breakfast Ross and myself went for a spin to get some stuff in Rathdrum. Cathal was working today, but we all did a nice little walk for lunch. Up the hill behind the house. Everywhere I look it’s just beautiful and gorgeous. Ross made lovely Miso soup, summer rolls and chicken. Yummo! Chatting away about architecture topics which I find really interesting as this is totally out of my scope. Every day is a school day. Cathal is away on a training course in Dublin this evening so it’s just Ross and I looking after the cat and the house. Playing Backgammon later and maybe going on another night walk.
    I very much enjoy being content with a cup of tea, games and being outside compared to when the three of us were 20 and it was all about booze, drugs and clubs… I love being old and boring    Read more

    Day 1

    Day 1 - Arrival

    Finally- Meeting Cathal and Ross in the Irish Mountains. Cathal‘s family owns a beautiful old cottage in the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland. And we are here for a few days to enjoy nature, celebrate old friendships and act out one of the best movies ever made. I am hoping though I did not come on holidays by a dreadful mistake and I am looking forward to a couple of days in the wild Irish nature with Cathal and Ross.
    Arrived at Dublin airport and Cathal picked me up. From there we had a short trip to IKEA to pick up some stuff and did some food shopping. Went to the cottage near Glendalough, right beside the national park. It’s a beautiful old cottage of Cathal‘s family. Ross joined us just in time for dinner and we had a lovely catch up. Went for a night walk to the lake just below the cottage and it was magical in the moonlight and under the stars. Then we all went to bed with our hot water bottle.     Home Sweet Home

    Da sind wir wieder. Zu Hause in Oftersheim, empfangen von meiner Mutter, Evan und seiner Freundin Leni. Es gab eine wunderschöne Geburtstagstorte mit Peppa Wutz, von Leni und Evan selbst gebacken. Der Camper wurde ausgeräumt und ein Riesenberg Wäsche liegt im Keller.
    Wie bei allem, was zu Ende geht, wohnt auch in diesem neuen Anfang ein Zauber inne. Wie wird es hier weitergehen, welche berufliche Veränderung wird umgesetzt, wie wird die Reise nachwirken und uns und unseren Horizont erweitert haben…
    Ich für meinen Teil habe, neben vielen neuen Eindrücken und Verschiebungen meines bisherigen Horizonts, mindestens drei Learnings mitgenommen.
    1. Ganz egal wo- am schönsten Ort oder im herrlichsten Paradies- die Menschen mit denen ich gesprochen habe, die an diesem Ort wohnen, wären lieber woanders. Ausnahmslos. Das Gras ist wohl tatsächlich für die allermeisten Menschen grüner, wenn es nicht vor der eigenen Haustür wächst.
    2. Es gibt an jedem, wirklich jedem noch so kleinen Ort am Meer, eine Blaue Lagune.
    3. Das Reisen ist mit Mitte 40 und zwei kleinen Kindern im Wohnmobil nicht das gleiche, wie das Reisen mit Anfang 20 und einem Rucksack. Ich bin so geschreddert!    Read more

    Österreich und Steinkunde

    Jetzt sind wir schon in Österreich und ich kann die Heimat riechen. Die letzten Tage im Camper sind angebrochen. Ein komisches Gefühl, auch weil wir wissen, dass wir den Camper nach der Reise definitiv wieder verkaufen werden. Wenn man ihn nicht wirklich viel nutzt, ist es einfach zu teuer ihn zu haben und zu unterhalten. Jetzt sind wir in Österreich und zufällig in Maissau gelandet. Ich habe einen Stellplatz für die Nacht auf dem Weg gesucht, mit Spielplatz. Jetzt sind wir hier auf einem großen Parkplatz von der Amethyst Welt. Nebenan ist besagter Spielplatz mit Ziegen und Hasen. Im Wald beim Spazieren haben wir ein Reh gesehen. So ruhig und friedlich. Ich gehe morgen mit den Mädels in die Amethyst Welt, hier gibt es den längsten Amethyst Tunnel der Welt in 12 m Tiefe. Selbst Edelsteine schürfen kann man auch. Der Amethyst ist zufällig auch mein Geburtsstein. Wobei ich an Zufälle nicht glaube.

    Was für ein schöner Tag im Edelsteinhaus. Wir haben bis zum Nachmittag die Zeit dort verbracht. Es gibt einen Tunnel von 40m Länge, in welchem man die Amethyst Ader, welche hier verläuft, gut sehen kann. Im Nebengebäude ist eine Ausstellung mit wunderschönen Edelsteinen aus der ganzen Welt. Die Mädels und ich haben dann noch unsere eigenen Amethysten geschürft, sehr erfolgreich. Im Aussengelände gibt es noch einen Energie-tankgarten, hier wurde mit Hilfe von Feng Shui und Mineralien eine Energiequelle geschaffen. Man kann auch durch die 7 Chakren spazieren. Sehr schön angelegt und mit bester Energie gefüllt. Zum guten Schluss habe ich noch ein kleines Vermögen in neue Schätze aus dem Hausladen investiert. In gute Energie zu investieren ist immer gut.     Bratislava

    Am späten Nachmittag sind wir in Bratislava angekommen. Ich finde es sehr schade, dass unser Besuch in Ungarn und Budapest nur so kurz war. Das Wetter und die rinnende Zeit sprachen für eine schnellere Durchreise und auch für das Vorbeifahren am Balaton. Es wird sicher noch andere Möglichkeiten geben, hier noch einmal herzukommen.
    Jetzt sind wir in Bratislava und der erste Eindruck trotz Regen ist sehr sympathisch. Wir waren auch schon sehr gut Essen, es gab Piroggen, eines meiner Lieblingsessen. Morgen hoffen wir auf etwas weniger Regen und werden uns noch weiter umschauen.
    Den halben Tag sind wir nun noch in der Stadt gewesen, haben das Schloss besucht und noch einmal die Altstadt. Es ist alles recht übersichtlich, hübsch und vor allem - nass.    Read more
