      St. James’s Park I

      June 29, 2018 in England ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

      June 29, 2018 in England ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Read more

      Good Thing I'm Flexable

      October 27, 2018 in England ⋅ ⛅ 6 °C

It turns out staying at the hostel for the day was a great idea. I met new people, got groceries, got an oyster card, and just spent time hanging about. I actually ended up staying up way past when I'd normally head to bed talking to people. After finally settling down for the night (2am) I thought I'd just wake up with the sun through my window, after all, the tour I wanted to go on wasn't until 10:30. I thought I'd have loads of time. Waking up at 8:30 I figured I could take a leisurely morning, and a quick shower later I was in the kitchen getting breakfast. Glancing at my phone I realized it was already 10 in the morning! There was no way I could make the 10:30 tour. So I quickly changed my plans for another free tour at 11, I even used the underground to get there. Arriving with fifteen minutes to spare, I found out that the free tour was full. That meant that I had to wait until one for the next group, but I did find out that you can pre book the tour even though it's free. After making sure I was set for that I decided to wander around Covent Garden, a popular shopping center. Not even 30 feet away from where I was standing there was a street performer, or busker as they refer to them here. I watched the end of his very interesting performance and continued to wander. From there I walked in to Apple Market where people were selling their handmade crafts and wares. As my hands have been absolutely freezing I was on the lookout for gloves, and thank goodness I found some. They were definitely over priced, but feeling my fingertips is worth it. After checking out all the booths, and with another hour to kill, I thought it be perfect timing to get some food. Normally I'd just pop in to some shop and grab a sausage roll, but everything in this particular area is some snazzy, and surely overpriced, place. By good luck though, I'm worth an extravagant meal and ended up getting confit duck leg. It was so tender and the braised red cabbage was delicious. Over all it wasn't quite the morning I expected, but it was still fantastic.Read more

      Ab nach ''Hause''!

      June 14, 2018 in England ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Read more

St. James's - Wiedersehen macht Freude

      June 14, 2018 in England ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Read more

      London day 9 Tue 1 May 2018

      May 1, 2018 in England ⋅ 🌙 8 °C

District line to Westminster, then Horse Guards museum. Not much of interest here. Decided not to watch the ceremonial changing of the Mounted Horse Guard here at 11am, so we walked to Buckingham Palace through St James’s Park and waited for the ceremonial changing of the Guard there which did not happen. Thousands of us were there. The Mounted Horse Guard rode a through and there was a informal changing of a Pill Box guard. Nearby a military band was playing at a military barracks on the other side of the street called Birdcage Walk.We then visited the Royal Mews, with its excellent carriage display, followed by the Queen’s Gallery portraying Charles II, the king invited back following Cromwell’s Commonwealth. We then visited the Wellington Arch. The Arch was built as an entrance to Buckingham Palace but was moved to its present location 100 metres away becoming a victory Arch. On the way to the Churchill War rooms and museum, had soup at Victoria Station. Stayed at Churchill’s War rooms excellent displays till 6pm. Walked to the Morpeth Arms at Pimlico next to the drink stop of last weeks’s run across the river from the MI6 building. 7km run through much of the area we walked through earlier in the day. Back to Acton Town after 10pm for chicken pieces and chips from a local shop.Read more

      The journey...

      November 2, 2015 in England ⋅ 🌫 11 °C

We were both not really looking forward to the travel to get us to our destination. This involved a 3 hour drive to Brisbane, an 8 hour flight to Singapore, a 3 hour stopover then a 14 hour flight to London. It's inevitable but arduous. We drove to Brisbane on Saturday morning ahead of our late Sunday night flight. We decided to have dinner at the airport (subway.. not available in Stanthorpe) to kill time. I got selected to do an explosives tesyt (yay...nasty piece of work she was too). We were buggered waiting for our flight. Finally we get on the plane at 11:15pm and start drifting off....BAM lights back on it's time for "refreshments". I'm not sure why people need those at 12:30am so we passed. I opted for a tea because I was awake then. B managed to sleep quite a bit on this leg, I drifted restlessly. Being three rows behind the toilet didn't help as the light constantly woke me. Breakfast was about 2 hours before landing, scrambled eggs for B, chicken noodles for me. A word to the wise: choose the Asian dish on an Asian airline...Singapore airlines did not disappoint. Soon we were off the plane wandering about Singapore airport. We used these foot massages (everywhere for free)...oh wow. Feeling revitalized we went for a stroll for some coffee (Kopi c) and some kaya toast. We have missed you Singapore! We also got some money from the ATM to change into euros and pounds. We wandered some more then got on our second leg to London. Noodles for me again and poached eggs for B this time. Writing this we are 4 hours down, 10 to go. Time to choose another movie.Read more

      Firas & Fatin Arrival

      December 11, 2015 in England ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Made it on time to pick up Fatin and Firas at the London Heathrow Airport....enjoyed an amazing Sticky Toffee Latte! Then we drove to my AirBnB place in West Ham to drop my luggage off. We put the address in the GPS and it took us to the wrong "Old Street" so we had to pay a London Congestion fee... £11.50! All because we drove thru the center area of London. The fee is to discouraged automobiles apparently. The coolest part was accidentally diving by Harley St. where Stefan lived when he worked in London as a young man.Read more

      Day 2- Borough Market

      December 13, 2015 in England ⋅ 🌧 6 °C

Headed for Tower Bridge and on my way ended up at one of the best open air markets in the London - Borough Market. It is said that world class chefs shop the goods at this market and I saw definitely why that was the case. Coolest thing was the truffles - note that one of them cost over £300/100 grams. Was amazing!Read more
