    San Diego

January 7, 2018 in the United States ⋅

We joined our top deck tour today and the craziest thing ever happened! Another couple from Cessnock our age is on the tour the girl works at Coles and the guy is doing the same trade as Toby!
This was so freaky because the fortune teller Diane told me we would meet another couple and the boy would do the same trade as Toby and we would get on well with them and we have! They are lovely we know people they know and all!
We went into San Diego and went to mission beach and rode bikes along the there! We had tacos for lunch they were really nice!
We left there after lunch and heading into down town San Diego for a tour of where to go tomorrow and to see where the zoo is and the museums ready, we then got dropped off at old Mexico which was really cool, we visited a grave site from the 1800 and went to a shop called Toby's candle and soap shop!
We headed to dinner for more Mexican it was a huge meal just like we had been told it would be! We have now headed to our hotel room with the rest of our group and we are getting ready to head out for an organised bar crawl with beer pong and all! We are pretty excited hopefully we don't get screwed over by he free pour!( they don't measure their spirits and just pour however much in) and that's a wrap for day three we love our top deck group and are very excited for the zoo tomorrow 😊

    San Diego

January 28, 2015 in the United States ⋅

Nancy decided to stay home today while the rest of us went to the much anticipated San Diego Zoo. The 100 acre Zoo is located in Balboa Park and is home to 3,700 rare and endangered species. We started off with a 35 minute guided bus tour and then planned our attack.

    San Diego

My child found other ways to entertain herself :-)

Overall we concluded that we were disappointed in this zoo. Perhaps our expectations were too high as we had often heard or read that the San Diego Zoo was one of the top ten zoos in the world. Although there are botanical gardens interspersed with the animal exhibits, we still felt that the enclosures were very small. On the positive side, the zoo does have a large variety of species that we had not seen elsewhere. But for the admission fee of $43 each, we had expected more.Read more

    San Diego

February 9, 2015 in the United States ⋅

Googlemaps predicted it would take 30 minutes to get to Balboa Park but the GPS took me straight through the city as I had directed it to avoid the I-5. An hour and 45 minutes later I arrived at Balboa Park! On the return trip I did take the I-5 and was home in 30 minutes. The traffic flow came to an abrupt stop just as I reached my exit. Happy to have avoided that.

Balboa Park is described as "A landscape of arts and culture". Many of the buildings originated from the First World's Fair in 1915. It is home to 15 major museums, performing arts venues, gardens, and the San Diego Zoo. Because it took so long for me to get there, I didn't have time to go inside any of the museums. It was crucial that I leave the city before rush hour.

    San Diego

December 14, 2017 in the United States ⋅

Read more

Read more

    Little Italy

August 18, 2017 in the United States ⋅

We have had great meals in Little Italy. The globe fountain is outside the first place where we ate and the waiter clearly wanted nothing to do with vegetarians. Michele and I prevailed and got some great veggie food and Kristen was cheered for not being vegetarian.

Balboa Park & WH Cycling Connections

December 1, 2015 in the United States ⋅

We headed up to Balboa Park for a quick tour to check out the Cactus Gardens and to take in the general ambiance around all the museums clustered in the park. There are some pretty funky and many nasty looking cacti out there, and surely we will see many of them as we continue riding in the desert down the Baja. From Balboa Park we headed to South Park to meet up with Nelly, Jerome, and their 6-year old daughter Josephine who are also cycling from Whitehorse to Central America. We compared notes on our favourite and less favourite parts of the trip and shared advice we had each gathered regarding the road ahead. After missing each other several times due to the zigging and zagging we each did down the coast, it was fun to finally connect. They are heading down the Baja soon as well, so we may meet up again down the road.Read more

    Zoo San Diego, USA

January 11, 2018 in the United States ⋅
