    9. Every job is an adventure

    May 11, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

I feel like when you treat every job as an adventure you enjoy what you do more. It’s not a job anymore but something you love to do. Let’s look at Kayra as an example she is still a flight attendant but she makes the most out of her job and sells art on the go. She makes the most out of her opportunities and gets the LWB art more exposure. I think that when you treat every job as an adventure and like what you do people get the best work from you. As a result you have a more positive outlook. I feel like Cheryl and Brae are also amazing examples of this quote. Cheryl has been teaching us and shaping us to be better leaders. I’m sure it’s an adventure watching us attempt our real world leadership skills. If she didn’t treat her job as an adventure she probably would’ve been over the leadership team for awhile. She’s one person you can tell loves what she does. As for Brae she definitely takes her job as an adventure when coming on these trips. Leaving her family behind but she really made the most of every day and I’d like to so she enjoyed the trip. When you have the ability to treat a job as an adventure you make the most out of your experience and time.Read more

    Photoshoot after photoshoot

    May 12, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Let’s just say our team really took advantage of the photo opportunities in Greece. It was just fun to watch everyone stop and take an opportunity for a picture and let’s just say I think the guys took way more photos than any of us girls combined.Read more

    1.Me as a Leader

    May 12, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

During this trip I was hoping to learn a balance of seriousness and fun while still being a leader. I have always been my hardest critic and I have always tried to be serious in the parts of our team that require work. I don’t quite know if it’s a struggle of control which my brain thinks both fun and serious can’t interact in the same circle. However watching older members of the team before me balance such a great level of being serious and fun was something I envied. From my time on the team people have tried to convince me to be a little less worried about being in control and allow myself to enjoy what we are doing in the moment. Greece finally gave me the chance to feel like I could balance seriousness and fun as a servant leader. I was surrounded by not only the amazing people on our team but locals who were willing to help or just to talk. The trip was structured in a way that Mads had most things planned leaving very little room to worry about anything else. By finding this balance I was able to enjoy our service work and the trip and I couldn’t be more grateful. I feel like if you find that balance as a servant leader it helps you learn more about your followers because everyone won’t flourish in the same environment. If you have that balance it gives you more flexibility when interacting with your peers and followers.Read more

    6.Servant Leader

    May 12, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Our team focuses on servant leadership so needless to say we weren’t limited to options when discussing an act of it. One person that stood out to me was Coye. From what I got he was a quieter member of our 3rd year team. This trip he showed his personality and how he grew comfortable to be around our team. While Mads was planning the trip she had the other 3rd year team members give input or suggestions on what things our team might like to do. Coye came prepared and was helpful when suggesting things. I think he researched almost as much as Mads so we could all make the most of our trip. He was also one of the people that really wanted to go explore London on our layover. However he was super flexible and understanding when Mads told him we’d have to wait when we get there to see if that was a possibility and even looked up things for us to do while at Heathrow. During this trip I think Coye branched out more than most of us and hung out with everyone. Something I definitely admire because it was something I really struggled with this trip. He attempted to complete bingo which was a challenge some of us didn’t take as seriously. He would just keep saying, “ Oh well we’re not in Greece for long”. This attitude gave me the attitude to make the most out of the small moments and was definitely a good reminder to not worry. He never failed to be kind when the ladies who were selling flowers. When we all kept our heads down so we didn’t get conned he always made sure to support them. He also payed attention really well and if there was a group of the girls on their own he made sure to check in on them or go with them to make sure they were safe. Also can’t forget he was willing to go chase after anyone if they pickpocketed us!Read more

    2.My new Greek experience

    May 13, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

One new Greek experience that I had and struggled with was tipping. Something that is so common here in the Untied States because waiters and waitresses here are not compensated enough for their work while in Greece and most European countries are paid livable wages so tipping is not so common. In the United States it is almost a compliment to tip a server nicely as appreciation for their service. During one of our free nights in Athens we had a girl named Effie as our waitress. She was super sweet and super helpful. She suggested items helped to answer questions (like how to say straw in Greek because she didn’t know it as straw and for those wondering it is καλαμάκι). She even went next door with us to help pick “the good” gelato or as she put it flavors that they would normally get. Overall she made our experience that night run so smoothly. In the United States if we were to get that service and hospitality here the server would expect a big tip but not in Greece. She was offended that we left her a tip but we were a bigger group and great service how else could we show her appreciation? I went back later because I forgot something and she had put it aside in the corner for me. So I took some time to explain to her that here if we get good service we tip. I don’t know if she really understood that we had a good experience at their restaurant and that’s why we tipped.Read more

    Creating Stronger Friendships

    May 14, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

For those of you who don’t know Mads and I weren’t the closest to each other at the beginning of of leadership journey. And quite honestly I was worried that rooming together we would argue or there was bound to be some disagreements. However the trip proved me wrong. Even though we’re friends and we’ve been on the team together for three years I really think being on a trip or rooming with someone helps you learn so much more about them. She did an incredible job as our trip planner and was a great roomie too:)Read more

    Letting loose

    May 14, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Everyone was a little tense after traveling to the island. Actually maybe we were a little hangry since all the grocery stores were closed either way Dalton let me push him in so everyone could get a laugh. It was a nice moment that I think we all enjoyed!Read more

    Morning Time🌞

    May 15, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

I didn’t know if I would be coming on this trip 100% until maybe a week before. My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer so we were waiting on his latest scans before I felt comfortable enough to be countries away. My mornings started at 5 or 6 on the island being on a trip for 10 days with so many people alone time was rare. It was a good time to sit there and reflect on the day before before I was joined by the villa cat or Dawson who sat with me most mornings.Read more

    Animals Everywhere

    May 15, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

After being in our trip class I was hoping to see dogs and cats everywhere. I’m definitely an animal person and when there’s animals around I feel like it’s easier to me to get comfortable. While that being said i saw some of the best behaving animals because they were welcome pretty much anywhere. Maybe the US could learn a thing or two?Read more
