      Athen: Die antike Stadt

      Mein letzter Stop der Reise führt mich nach Athen. Am ersten Tag habe ich hier einige Museen besucht und mir am Abend einen Ausblick auf der naheliegendsten Dachterrasse gesucht um die wunderschöne Akropolis bei Nacht zu bestaunen, ein wahrlich tolles Bild. Abends ging es dann noch weiter, durch die Bars, die Athener haben ein sehr aktives Nachtleben, was mir super gefällt 😊.Read more

      Day 74 - Paros to Athens, Greece

      Today is the last full day on the island. We had breakfast then had a quick chat to Chris & Barbs and packed our stuff. Our little Hybrid Fiat Panda fits all our luggage with ease in the boot!

      We drove to Naousa and had another look around the village, we figured we’d seen majority the village had to offer and seeing it is much more lively at night we headed to find some lunch at another village.
      We ended back at Back to Back in Piso Livadi, a few boa buns & some onion rings, the Greeks know how to feed people very well!

      Next bay over is Paralia Logaras beach, we found a good parking spot, it had a shower to clean ourselves off from the salty water, so we ended up having a swim and relax on the beach.

      We went back through Aliki village to grab a little souvenir for our time in Paros. We filled up the car & returned it at Paros Airport, this airport is tiny compared to some of the airports we’ve been to so was fun working out how they do things here.

      We flew out to Athens, before flying I had messaged the Accomadation in Athens with our arrival time, she soon told me there is massive strikes in Athens and that the metro wasn’t running and the bus may not be running either. The buses were running until 9pm, we got on what I presume to be one of the last ones for the evening.
      Once close to CBD Athens, the roads were blocked by traffic and the bus driver announced the last stop was blocked off and it’s easier to walk. We started walking to the accommodation and along the walk found traffic jams everywhere that what was actually blocking the CBD.
      Three riot squad busses blocking the road with riot squad heading down a side street, another lot getting gas masks on. We hustled out of there pretty fast and worked out a way so we were going the opposite way from the protesters and the riot squad.

      We made it to the Accomadation and then headed to grab some dinner. We stumbled upon a small plate eatery, Granada, the server was very friendly to us! We were amazed at 10pm how busy it was!

      After dinner we had a quick walk and found out how good and lively the area is that we are staying in! They even have a resturant named Klook, that is a Halloween themed resturant all year round, it specialises in desserts so you can bet money this is on the itinerary now!      Read more

      Academy of Athens. Seeing this recreation of ancient architecture colored as it would have been was spectacular. The girls got to show off their knowledge of history and mythology.

      The context of greek leadership

      7) Talk about one contextual factor in the Greece leadership system and what you learned while we were in Greece that helped you understand that factor in more depth?

      One thing that I often heard and saw was about the Greek government system, it was being talked about by locals, by Kyra, by anyone. I heard from locals that the election were coming up in less than a week, going through the streets of Athens, I saw town halls where there were candidates talking about whatever they were supporting. At a hotel on Aegina when stoping to go to the bathroom I learned that those running for parliament only had to get 3% of the vote to become elected. Everything the locals were doing seemed to be connected to the government elections.

      While there was so much going on with the government, I learned from Kyra how little the government did for refugees. I learned of the camps at the boarder that the government did nothing about, that it was volunteers that took
      them food. That these refugees never saw any help from the government that promised to take care of them. I saw that the Greek government system lacked any sort of proactive measures, and only acted on immediate problems for the country as a whole.

      The system that Greek government uses lacks many of the main leadership practices that we use.      Read more

      5. Tag im Hafen von Piräus
      Das Schiff liegt im Hafen von Piräus. Die Hafenstadt wurde im frühen 5. Jahrhundert v. Chr. gegründet, als Pläne, sie zum neuen Hafen von Athen zu machen, umgesetzt wurden. Der Hafen von Piräus ist der wichtigste Hafen in Griechenland. Die Stadt war Austragungsort der Olympischen Sommerspiele 1896 und 2004, die in Athen stattfanden.
      Heute sind Andy und ich bei der Panoramatour nach Athen mit dabei. Der Rollstuhl wird im Bus unten eingeladen. So fahren wir mehr als eine Stunde durch die Stadt und sehen so die wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten. Draussen ist es heute extrem heiss, über 40 Grad. Wir sehen von unten auch die Akropolis.
      Weite Teile Europas ächzen unter einer Hitzewelle. In den kommenden Tagen werden mehr als 40 Grad Celsius erwartet. Einige archäologische Stätten wurden zeitweise geschlossen - darunter die Akropolis in Athen. So sind Liz und Christian nicht zur Akropolis hochgegangen. Sie hätten freiwillig darauf verzichtet, wegen dieser Hitze.
      Andy und ich haben in einer Stunde uns in der Altstadt von Athen aufgehalten - da war es etwas schattiger und angenehmer. So haben wir typische Souvenirläden gesehen.
      Wieder zurück in der MSC schlafe ich am Nachmittag nach einem leichten Mittagessen kurz im kühlen Zimmer. Am Abend geniessen wir wieder zu viert ein feines Nachtessen im Restaurant des Yachtclubs. Da werden wir immer sehr, sehr freundlich empfangen und bedient. Weil wir für den Yachtclub gebucht haben, können wir jedes Mal aus verschiedenen Angeboten ein dreigängiges Menü zusammenstellen. Auch den Wein können wir auswählen und wird immer nachgereicht.       This church was beautiful! I loved the ceilings painted with stars.

      Kirche der Panagia Kapnikarea

      Kurz bevor wir in die Seitenstraße unseres Hotels eingebogen sind hatten wir am Ende der Straße ein sehr schönes Gebäude gesehen. Also ging’s direkt los zum schönen Gebäude, welches sich als Kirche rausgestellt hat. Die Kirche der Panagia Kapnikarea ist eine griechisch-orthodoxe Kirche und eine der ältesten Kirchen Athens. Es wird geschätzt, dass die Kirche irgendwann im 11. Jahrhundert gebaut wurde. Wie es bei den frühchristlichen Kirchen üblich war, wurde diese über einem antiken griechischen Tempel errichtet, der der Verehrung einer Göttin gewidmet war. Voraussichtlich für Athena oder Demeter. Vor allem zwei Sachen an dieser Kirche sind wirklich besonders! Einerseits die Lage des sehr alten Gebäudes im Herzen der moderneren Gebäude der Stadt. Andererseits die sehr alten und gut erhaltenen Gemälde im Inneren. Blitz ist deswegen im Inneren nicht erlaubt, gute Fotos gingen trotzdem! Von der ältesten Kirche ging’s dann weiter zur Kathedrale von Athen.Read more

      Der wohl schönste H&M

      Kurz vorm Hotel sind wir nochmal am wohl schönsten H&M vorbei, den wir bisher gesehen haben. Kurz sind wir ins Innere, haben ein paar Fotos gemacht und sind direkt weiter zum Hotel. Gekauft haben wir nichts, der Abstecher war trotzdem eine sehr gute Entscheidung. Sehr beeindruckend, wie viel Liebe in die Gestaltung gesteckt wurde!Read more

      Abends Karfreitag in Athen

      Nach dem Sonnenuntergang gings für uns noch auf eine kleine Runde durch das abendliche Athen. Vor allem da heute (griechisch orthodoxes) Karfreitag ist hatten wir uns dafür den heutigen Tag rausgesucht. Sowohl heute, als auch morgen, finden viele religiöse Veranstaltungen statt. Tatsächlich waren vor allen Kirchen heute sehr viele Gläubige. Vor allem der große Platz vor der Kathedrale im Zentrum war randvoll und eine Prozession fand statt. Stören wollten wir nicht, nur kurz vorbeischauen. Nach einer kurzen Runde durch das Zentrum gings wieder zurück zum Hotel. Morgen werden wir Abends zwar nicht raus und rumlaufen, laut Internet erwartet uns jedoch um 00:00 Uhr ein Feuerwerk. Mal wieder genau zum Abschied. Toller Zufall! Hoffentlich ist es dann direkt über der Akropolis zu sehen. Mit 22.994 Schritten (16,79 Km) waren wir heute deutlich mehr unterwegs als gedacht. Nachdem wir jedoch weniger Ziele hatten und vor allem Vormittags unterwegs waren, war es definitiv ein entspannter Tag. Morgen steht unser letzter Tag im Urlaub an, wo wir den Norden und Westen der Stadt erkunden werden. Wir freuen uns schon! Auf das letzte große Frühstück und die letzte Tour in diesem Urlaub. Jetzt aber erst mal entspannen und hoffentlich gut und lange schlafen. Gute Nacht Athen!Read more

      Athens adventure

      Enjoying lunch in a taverna near our hotel and I look over my darling husbands shoulder and I see the acrockolipse (as he calls it). It adds to the many sights I have seen over his shoulder including the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty, the Great Wall of China. A big walking morning to Parliament House, the Plaka and the botanic gardens is rewarded with a half liter of Greek white wine, fava beans, toasted bread with olive oil and halloumi salad. Thousands of steps!
      Lunch includes fava beans and and Greek white (not Chianti!) followed by halloumi salad and walnut cake washed down with ouzo. Our new hotel is available after lunch and the room is very comfortable and the reception friendly and helpful. It was a luxury escape so we have breakfast included and a bottle of wine to enjoy looking at the acrockolypse. Great value at $210 a night we think! Great location! Afternoon sightseeing walking Roman Agora, flea market more dining and shopping areas. Everywhere is interesting and something to see. We watch the sunset with a bottle of wine looking at the acropolis- not hungry after our lukamedes stop - donut balls with pistachio snd white chocolate stuffing with pistachio gelato - amazing!
