Morgens um 5 Uhr ging es mit dem Zug zurück Richtung Delhi.
Im Hotel angekommen hiess es alles packen und wir entschieden uns der Mittagshitze mit einem Schläfchen entgegenzuwirken.

Gepäck in Delhi ✅

Trooooommelwiirrbel 🥁 unser Gepäck hat es ebenfalls nach Delhi geschafft! Als wir heute Morgen aufgewacht sind, haben wir durch unsere Airtags bereits gesehen, dass unsere Rucksäcke am Flughafen in Delhi angekommen sind. Aber bei Air India jemanden zu erreichen, Fehlanzeige. Unsere liebe Guidin Harsha hat nicht lange überlegt und ist mit uns zum Flughafen gefahren. Inklusive abenteuerlicher Fahrt mit dem Tuktuk zur Metrostation. Am Flughafen angekommen kamen wir uns vor wie in einem Asterix und Obelix Comic. Wir wurden von einer Stelle zur anderen geschickt und niemand konnte helfen. Harsha hat aber nicht locker gelassen bis schliesslich ein Mitarbeiter mit uns zur Ankunftshalle ging, mit seinem Batch Zutritt bekam und 5 Minuten später mit unseren Rucksäcken wieder hinaus kam 🙏🙏 Mit dem Taxi haben wir es sogar noch rechtzeitig zum ersten Tour-Meeting geschafft und haben unsere Mitteisenden kennengelernt. Eine reine Frauengruppe UND Tobi 😉🐓 Nach einem feinen Abendessen freuen wir uns jetzt darauf, morgen Delhi unsicher zu machen. Danach gehts mit dem Nachtzug nach Varanasi. Tour durch Delhi

Heute Morgen früh machten wir uns auf Richtung "old" Delhi, wo wir zuerst durch die Strassen wanderten, einen Chai genossen und eifach die Atmosphäre aufsogen. Danach ginge es weiter zu der Mosche und dem Tempel, im Tempel durften wir in der Gemeinschaftsküche mithelfen das Brot zu backen. Ein Besuch des Gewürzmarkets ist einmalig und jeder Reiz wird geforet wenn man durch die engen Wege das Markets geht wo hunderte Kilos Chillis rumliegen und der Weg schon fast für sich eine Chilipaste ist:)
Heute Nacht geht es mit dem Zug nach Varanasi.Read more

With 34 million people the crush of humanity is everywhere. There are hawkers and beggars but they are mostly polite and the Indian people are gracious to all visitors providing a heart felt "namaste" at every greeting. Hinduism, the primary religion in India and the oldest in the world, really does have a lot to offer (beyond the thousands of gods to choose from🙂). About 94 degrees this morning!Read more

Qutub Minar - Minaret and Victory Tower

Another UNESCO World Heritage site! The tower was built between 1199 and 1220. It is 238 feet tall and the tallest stone tower in India. It’s made of red sandstone and marble. A large mosque was built near it from stone blocks taken from existing temples in the area that were destroyed by Islamic invaders. The large mosque didn’t survive the test of time, but remaining parts were carved in a beautiful blend of Islamic and Hindu symbology.Read more

Delhi - Dubai - Zürich

Wir fliegen mit Emirates Airlines, ziemlich picobello, super Service und sehr gut ausgestattet. Ich verfolge wie lange wir noch auf indischem Territorium sind, die anderen kucken Filme. 1600 km bis Delhi, 2500 km bis Dubai. Gerade fliegen wir über Pakistan, Indien Ade.
Rote Wüste, dann die Skyline von Dubai: in Dubai regnet es durchschnittlich einen Tag pro Monat - und den haben wir erwischt!
Der Airport ist wie zu erwarten ziemlich luxuriös. Alles vom feinsten, es blinkt und blitzt und es gibt ausschließlich Luxus Marken zum Einkaufen. Der Übergang zum nächsten Flug geht schnell und reibungslos.
Wegen des heftigen Regenschauers stehen Teile der Startflächen unter Wasser und das Flugzeug kann nicht starten! Der Pilot hat das in Dubai in 20 Jahren noch nicht erlebt! Das Wetter wird schlechter statt besser, es gewittert. Der Wüstenstaat ist nicht darauf eingerichtet, dass Wasser irgendwo ablaufen muss..
Wenn das so weitergeht müssen wir bleiben...In Zürich darf man nur bis 11h30 landen.
Wir verbringen die Nacht wie viele viele andere im Flughafen....JP steht in der Schlange und organisiert eine Umbuchung: nach Frankfurt. Mit 6 Stunden Verspätung startet am Mittwoch das Flugzeug um 14 Uhr Richtung Frankfurt.
In Frankfurt werden wir von Mama- Oma gerettet und nach Hause gefahren. Das hat uns noch einiges an Strapazen erspart!Um 24 Uhr sind wir in Altenburg angekommen. Jetzt muss nur noch irgendwann das Gepäck ankommen!

Es reist sich leichter mit wenig Gepäck

Als Überbleibsel von der Trekking-Tour in Kirgistan zu Beginn unserer Reise, haben wir einiges an Balast im Gepäck, dass wir gar nicht mehr brauchen. Schlafsäcke, Thermowäsche und ein paar Wanderklamotten wollen wir gerne los werden.
In Bukhara haben wir darüber nachgedacht, einen Seidenteppich zu kaufen und das nicht mehr benötigte Zeug zusammen mit dem Teppich verschicken zu lassen- das wäre ja auch ein schönes Andenken. Der Teppichverkäufer hätte mit gemacht. Die hohen Zusatzkosten für Einfuhrzoll und Steuern in Deutschland haben uns aber davon abgebracht.

Das Zeug los zu werden ist nun unser Ziel für den ersten Tag in Indien, denn hier ist es günstiger, als in Usbekistan. Gesagt getan. Mit Packmaterial versenden wir rund 11 kg für knapp 60 Euro als Luftpost per India Post nach Deutschland. Etwa 6 Euro gehen noch für den Karton und den Einpackservice drauf.
Alternativ hätten wir auch über DTDC mit DHL, FedEx oder DPD Express versenden können. Das wäre aber fast fünf Mal so teuer gewesen.

UPDATE: Unser Paket ist am 26.10., knapp drei Wochen nach Versanddatum, gut Zuhause angekommen. Allerdings wurde das Paket nicht direkt zugestellt, sondern musste beim Zollamt abgeholt werden. Zollgebühren wurden zum Glück nicht fällig. Rückwaren werden nicht verzollt. Die enthaltenen Souvenirs gelten als Geschenksendung. Solange diese einen Warenwert von 45 Euro nicht übersteigen sind diese ebenfalls zollbefreit.Read more

Quick stop at one of Indias 4 star hotels. Wow culture shock, never experienced anything like this. We got to the hotel despite paying 5x the amount we were supposed too in a taxi, we both were struggling being swarmed with people and dogs loose everywhere. The taxi ride 4km was the scariest trip of our lives, they all have lanes on the road yet no one seems to use them! But yet what an experience... Roll on Kathmandu, Nepal. India... We hope to be back once we are more mentally prepared.Read more

Sun Salutations and an Old Plane

It didn’t hit me, a yoga lover and practitioner for many years, that I am in the country that invented yoga, until I saw a huge statue in the Delhi domestic flight terminal this morning of a child doing the 12 poses of the Sun salutation. It’s the bodily prayer one can make every morning to thank the God of the Sun, and is core to any yoga practice.

What a lovely statue to have in an airport. There was a little description on the bottom of it encouraging people to do yoga. Love it.

We are on a very old airplane now, sitting on the tarmac waiting to take off to Jaisalmer. It is pretty foggy today but we’re hopeful the pilot has some sort of navigation system up front. We met two Aussies and six Americans ( all guys) who are also doing the Rickshaw Run who are on the same flight. One of the American kids is from Woodcrest, New Jersey, which is a development really close to where Joe grew up. The kid couldn’t believe that Joe was from Cherry Hill. He kept saying that and throwing out names to see if Joe knew them.

What we’ve realized is that we are so far the oldest people here. Like a mother and father figure, maybe? No, maybe a crazy uncle and aunt, is more like it.Read more
