      Central Bali by Scooter

      Since I managed to book an „overnight tour“ including a visit to Ijen with pickup at Lovina (on Bali) and drop-off at Banyuwangi (on Java), I gained one more day in Lovina. So, I had time to rent a scooter again. Scoopy (the scooter) 🛵 and I would visit the area and cruise through central Bali that day - for a last time. I felt like I didn’t really got to see some proper rice terraces in Bali so far. That’s probably why I ended up driving all the way to the Jatiluwih rice terraces in central Bali. Since this was 3 hours away from Lovina, I made a stop at the Git-Git waterfall. The water was delightfully refreshing and to my surprise I didn’t have to pay any entrance fee. Also, everyone was there with a guide. Only I somehow managed do go there on my own 😅 But the journey was not without its challenges. The HereWeGo App has send me on a strange path. The last few kilometres I even had to drive through the forest 🌲 and when the slope became too steep, I had to walk the remaining hundreds of metres. Nevertheless, using the HereWeGo app instead of Google Maps 🗺️ was the better alternative. The days before, Rico and I had so many situations when navigating with Google Maps was confusing because of inaccurate maps or issues with our phones compasses 🧭 Therefore, I decided to follow the advice of a friend back home 🏡 and tried out the HereWeGo App (thanks @Dennis 😊)
      On my way back from the waterfall I was escorted by not one but two barking dogs 🐕 that definitely wanted to let me know that I should get the f*** out of here 😂 In general, it seemed like the dogs in this area took the task of protecting their territory very seriously.
      After a sweat-breaking climb 🧗 back to my scooter, I was on my way to the rice terraces. It was really fun to cruise through the serpentines of the mountains 🏔️ Once in a while, there was a nice place for a photo 📸stop e. g. a really close picture of the monkeys 🙉 sitting on the side of the road or simply a nice view over the „Beratan“ lake.
      The Jatiluwih rice terraces 🍚 were huge and held what the photos (I saw in my research on the internet before) have promised. No wonder they are so well known here and although there were quite a few tourists it was not nearly as crowded as at the Tegallalang rice terraces that Paula, Klara, Rico and I tried to visit a week ago. I didn’t want to drive this hilly terrain in the dark. Therefore, I was back at Lovina Beach for the sunset 🌅
      In the evening - when I sat in front of my Bungalow and organized the massive amounts of photos and videos of the past few days - an Indonesian guest of the hotel approached me and offered some mangos 🥭 He had bought too much (3kg) for him to take back to Balikpapan - his home town on Borneo - because they have been so much cheaper here. We had a nice conversation about my experiences in Indonesia 🇮🇩 and how he sometimes invites guests in his home via couch surfing. Of course, he invited me to visit him on Borneo as well.       Diving at Menjangan Island

      I woke up early that day. I could have slept an hour more but I was not tired anymore - I was excited 😆

      An associate of the diving centre picked me up at my hotel with a scooter and drove me to the „New Tirta Diving and Snorkeling Lovina“ office 🏠 to choose and fit the equipment. Only wet suit and fins though - the rest was already prepared. 😎 Besides me, there were only 4 Indian guys who went on their first dives that day. The majority of participants for the tour went snorkelling. 🤿
      Not much later we entered the minibus 🚐that took us to a small jetty close to Menjangan Island in the north west of Bali. I was really lucky with my guide Gustavo. He explained everything to me that I needed to know that day (hand signs 👌, how to put on the equipment, how to use the SPG etc.) and instilled confidence in me that I would be fine - even after 5 years of not diving. Then it was time. I sat on the brink of the boat and made my back roll entry into the water. 💦 There is always this short moment when you hit the water and your natural impulse is to hold your breath (so that you don’t inhale water). In scuba diving you have to remember that you can breathe 🫁 and act against your natural instinct. So did I, before I emerged from the water and inflated my BCD. Then I waited for Gustavo to join me in the ocean 🌊 so that we could start our little adventure for that day. What followed was simply one of the most relaxed and beautiful dives I have experienced in my life. It seems diving is like riding a bike - you don’t unlearn it. 😁 And the fish 🐠 and coral 🪸 at the depth (approx. 18m) we dived were high in quantity, quality and variety. I even saw a big turtle 🐢 and was able to touch it while it was just laying there on the ground. It is not possible to describe my experience down there in words. But looking at the pictures and the one video I uploaded here you might get a glimpse of an impression. After 45 min the first dive was over. I felt happier than ever 🥳 and discussed with Gustavo what we have seen. He showed me some of the photos he made and I showed him my GoPro videos.
      Then we had lunch 🥪 on Menjangan Island before we went into the water for the second dive. Needless to say, that the second dive was also incredible. The only dives that remotely compare to the ones of this day were in Costa Rica 🇨🇷 and those were under much more difficult conditions (in the middle of the ocean and therefore strong currents). What a great day this has been. I am so glad that I went for this diving tour. It is certainly one of the highlights 🙌 of my Indonesia trip.
      After the second dive we drove back to 1.5 hours away Lovina. Back in the hotel, I was tired but happy and spent the evening (re)watching the photos and videos of the dives. Gustavo and I have produced over 600 of them that day. Unfortunately, I can only share a few with you here. I definitely had a hard time to select the ones for this post. 😅😎      Lue lisää

      Lovina

      Und scho isch e wunderschöni, aber au strengi Wuche in Labuan Bajo z End gange. De Morge het mitme feine Zmorge uf de Dachterrasse gstartet. Aschlüssend hemmer üsi Sache packt und sind an Flughafe gfahre worde. Mit nume 3 Gates und insgesamt 7 Airlines, wo Komodo aflüget, is sehr übersichtlich gsi und zügig gange.
      Und los is gange. Noch chli meh wie enere Stund simmer denn in Denpasar, Bali glandet. Lang simmer do aber nöd bliebe, denn üses nöchste Ziil het no e langi Fahrt vorusgsetzt. Mitm Grab simmer denn fast 4 Stund und ca. 100km spöter im Norde vo Bali acho. Was mer aso über die Fahrt no muess sege - am Afang so typisch durch e Grossstadt fahre, aber noch öppe 2.5h is id Berge ufe gange, d Strosse kum zwei Auto breit und s Feeling isch ähnlich enere Achterbahn gsi. So gseit es Abentüür im Abentüür.

      Lovina - bekannt für d Delfin wome gseh chan und für de schwarzi Strand. Gad nebet üsem Hotel hets mehreri verschiedeni Obstbäum mit viele Frücht dra wie Banane, Mango oder Rambutan. Gseh hemmer sus aber noni viel, well mer acho sind, duschet hend und üs denn e Massage gönnt hend, wo sehr guet tue het. Aschlüssend simmer denn a de Strandpromenade go flaniere und hend en feine Znacht gesse.

      Our awesome but also tiring week in Labuan Bajo has come to an end. We started our day with breakfast on the rooftop of our hotel. Afterwards we finished packing an got on to our taxi to the airport. With only 3 gates and 7 airlines that fly into komodo the security check went by quickly and it wasnt to hard to find our flight.
      After about an hour flight we then landed at Balis Denspasar airport. We did not stay there for long because we still had a drive across the entire island ahead of us. It took us 4 hours for the 100km to the North of Bali. The drive began with the typical asain suburb after 2.5 hours we got into the mountain area of central Bali. Once we reached the top the streets got winding and narrower than two cars next to each other. The drive down was quite adventurous.

      Then we reached Lovina a small town known for its black beaches and the possibility to see bottlenose dolphins in front of its coast. Next to our hotel there are many diffrent trees with carrying lots of driffrent fruits like bannanas, mangos or rambutan. We havent had to much time for sightseeing yet. But we did get a relaxing massage at the hotel and a tasty dinner at a beachfront restaurant.      Lue lisää

      Impressions II

      Ich könnte so viele Fotos von jedem noch so kleinen Tempel bzw. Gabenaltar machen. Überall finden sich auf den Straßen, vor den Häusern, vor den Tempeln kleine Schälchen mit Gaben drin. Von Blumen, über Räucherstäbchen, bis hin zu Zigaretten und Süßigkeiten findet sich alles mögliche darin 😄 schon allein deswegen lohnt sich eine Reise nach Bali 😊Lue lisää

      Auch wenn hier in Indonesien nicht immer alles glatt läuft, hatten wir heute Morgen ein sehr schönes Erlebnis. Wir waren schnorcheln! Nach einer kurzen Fahrt mit einem Jukung, ein kleines hölzernes Auslegerkanu, hatten wir 2 Stunden Zeit um am Korallenriff entlangzuschnorcheln. Wir haben viele kunterbunte Fischarten, Seesterne, Seeigel und Moränen gesehen und wir hatten wirklich Spaß!
      Im Anschluss ans Schnorcheln haben wir uns mal wieder einen Roller ausgeliehen und sind damit zum nicht weit entfernten Sekumpul Wasserfall gefahren. Ein wirklich beeindruckender Wasserfall, in dessen Wasserfallbecken man sogar baden kann.      Lue lisää

      Lovina und das Global Café

      Lovina liegt im Norden Balis. Besonderes Merkmal ist der schwarze Strand! Lovina ist DER Ausgangspunkt für Delfin Beobachtungstouren, worauf sie hier auch besonders stolz sind. Überall finden sich Delfin Statuen, egal ob an den Pools als Wasserspeier angebracht, auf der Straße, als Gehweg Verzierung oder am Strand als Riesensäule. Lovina ist nicht groß. Es gibt für Touristen alles was das Herz begehrt, Souvenirshops, Tauchschulen, Hotels und Restaurants. Mein neues zu Hause liegt sehr zentral man kann alles zu Fuß gehen und braucht keinen Roller 😉 ein Restaurant mag ich schon jetzt. Das Global Café. Das Essen ist super lecker, man bekommt alles von asiatisch bis westlich, vegan, vegetarisch oder fleischiges. Das Beste... Essen für den guten Zweck!! Denn der komplette Erlös fließt in eine Caritative Einrichtung, die sich unter anderem um behinderte Kinder, aber auch Erwachsene kümmert, die sich kein Geld für ärztliche Versorgung und/oder Schulbildung leisten können.       Lov(e)in(donesi)a ?!

      Soo nach unserem ersten Abend in Lovina und echt nem ganz witzigen Abend ist am nächsten Tag nicht so viel passiert. Gemütlich gefrühstückt, unser neues Paradies genossen und Wellness. Wir haben dann noch Caro und Phillip überredet zu uns zu wechseln, weil es doch so schön ist und wir ja eh allein waren. Das taten sie dann auch. Wir buchten uns also für 2 Tage einen Roller. An dem ersten Tag stand die Verlängerung unseres Visa auf der Agenda. Also 10 km weiter und zum Immigration Office. ( bevor ich jetzt ausfallend werde und mir wieder den Abend hier verderbe nur ganz kurz.
      Wir haben ja in Jakarta bei Ankunft schon 35 Euro bezahlt, mit der weisen Vorraussicht dann einfach unbeschwerlich das Visa zu verlängern. Dass es 3 Tage dauern würde, war uns bewusst und so hatten wir auch geplant: - erstes Treffen 9. November imOffice ( nur ein Formblatt ausfüllen und Pässe abgeben) JA Pässe abgeben. WO GIBT ES SO ETWAS BITTE ?? dazu noch Kopien vom Pass und den Rückflugtickets. Das war nicht möglich direkt im Amt. Wir sind 2h durch die Gegend gefahren!!!- zweites Treffen am 14. November für Fingerabdrücke von ALLEN Fingern und Passbild ( diese Zeit dazwischen haben wir in Ubud überbrückt.) und 35Euro eneut bezahlen
      -drittes Treffen am 16. November für die Abholung

      also eine Woche die Pässe weg. Und das legal und abgesegnet von der indonesischen Regierung.

      Den restlichen Tag haben wir dann dafür genutzt, um Zutaten für ein typisch deutsches Essen zu besorgen. Wir hatten uns am Abend zuvor, auf Grund dass es so leer ist im Resort darauf geeinigt, dass WIR dieses mal für alle Anderen kochen. Kurz um. Wir haben alle Märkte, Supermärkte und Kaufhäuser in einem Umkreis von 15km mit dem Roller abgegrast und es war uns unmöglich etwas aus diesen Zutaten herzustellen. Geplant war Spinat, Kartoffeln und Rührei.
      Um dann unsere Verabredung nicht platzen zu lassen, haben wir Blumenkohl, Kartoffeln und Ei besorgt und dazu hätte es einen frischen Salat gegeben. Es kam weder zum Einen noch zum Anderen, denn als wir mit Tüten voller Zutaten wieder heimkehrten, war die Anlage voll mit Menschen. Der chef persönlich hat ein BBQ veranlasst. Und wir standen nun da. Ziemlich angepisst und Tanghi war sich keiner Schuld bewusst. Einige Biere Später haben wir den Abend vergessen.

      Der nächste Tag mit dem Roller stand dann im Zeichen von Erkundungen und fahrten durchs balinesische Gebirge. Unsere Tour war schön geplant, aber nach den heißen quellen hat uns Googlemaps und irgendwann auch unsere Orietierung verlassen. So hatten wir zwar gefühlt das komplette Gebirge und jeden kleinen Ort der begann die Zeremonien vorzubreiten, aber nicht die anderen Dinge die auf dem Plan standen. Nach der interesssanten Spazierfahrt stand dann noch das Schlaumachen nach zentral gelegenden Unterkünften auf der To do.

      Da sich unsere Pläne aber spontan komplett geändert haben, entschieden wir einfach diese lange Zeit des Wartens auf den nächsten Schritt in dem Immigraation Office, nach Ubud weiterzuziehen.

      Online kun je overal lezen dat Ubud "het culturele en spirituele hart van Bali" is. Ik krijg daar een beetje een vies smaakje in mijn mond van. Vooral als je er komt en blijkt dat het in het centrum van Ubud net zo toeristisch en verstopt is als in andere Balinese steden.

      Gelukkig kun je er wel gezellig bier drinken en 3-zits taxiritjes scoren (2 voor de prijs van 1). De rijstvelden en tempels buiten de stad zijn ook best leuk. Maar toch, wij zijn niet overtuigd. En ook niet echt gecharmeerd van de bedwanten in ons bed. Hup, gauw door!      Lue lisää

      GROEEEEN, GROEEEEN! Is het Lingo? Neen, het is de weg van Ubud naar Amed. Want alles was groen. Behalve de lucht en de zee. Fieke wil hierover nog even ter attentie brengen dat we wel meer dan 100 km gescooterd hebben door het groen. Je kunt dus wel stellen dat Fieke goed kan zitten.

      De weg ernaartoe was leuker dan het vissersgebied zelf, want dat is weer een flink staaltje fantasieloos toerisme. Maar niet alleen maar kritiek, je kon er ook leuk duiken. Highlights onderwater waren een schip dat daar 50 jaar geleden is gezonken, heel veel koraal en een boel leuke vissen: barracuda's, ballonvissen en, last but not least, een Chinees die ging duiken maar niet echt kon zwemmen, waardoor hij als het ware door het water geduwd werd door zijn gids.       Essen für einen guten Zweck

      Bereits gestern haben wir sensationell gut gegessen und das für unter 5 Euro pro Person!
      Heute haben wir das Global Village Kafe für uns entdeckt. Hier ist alles Non Profit organisiert, die Einnahmen gehen armen Familien und Menschen aus der Region zu um z.b. Schulbildung für Kinder armer Familien zu ermöglichen oder Kranken einen Rollstuhl zu finanzieren. Gute Sache! Und erstklassiges Essen!Lue lisää
