Easy drive to Dover (~ 2 hours) 1 hour queue at passport control, and sailing (12:10) delayed by 1/2 hour.
Pleasant crossing ....
Arrived Calais 15:45 and got to Camping Mont Des Bruyeres at 17:20

Very pleasant campsite with pitches set amongst the trees.
Mix of static and touring pitches.
Got pitch #65 - conveniently located about 30 metres from shower block with hedges on 3 sides.

Taste the Difference steak and vintage 🧀 cheddar burgers 🍔 on the BBQ

Feeling relaxed in this woodland campsite set in 50 hectares of forest even though it was land of large mozzies and numerous very loud but friendly cockerels, roaming around.
Good bar area with pool table, table football, petangue etc. Kids playground and swimming pool.
Cycled into St Amand Les Eaux which was rather quiet as it was a Sunday.

Friendly, clean and well organised campsite in Ardennes area near river with adjacent pool/beach for swimming. Shady outdoor cafe attached to reception.
Didn't do much here as only 1 night stay.
Enjoyed freshly made pizzas.
Orca made a worrying noise yesterday whilst we were exploring the pretty village of Parfonduval, it looked like the rear anti-roll bar mounting supports have got damaged somehow so this morning we rang AA breakdown at 12, after waiting four hours for them to turn up, we decided to head off to our next stop Strasbourg as it is a 3.5 hour drive.Leia mais

Arrived fairly late, due to 4hour wait for AA breakdown at previous campsite. We gave up waiting and decided to risk driving with the broken anti roll bar support.

Really busy campsite, popular with the youngsters. Various types of chalets too.
Our table tennis skills are improving :)

8 min cycle into Strasbourg town which is stunning with all the cobbled alleys and waterways.Leia mais

Too many pretty villages along the Alsatian wine route to stop off at..we drove through Mittelberghiem, had lunch in Obernai, walked through Berghiem and had a stroll through very pretty main street in Ribeaville before getting exhausted and heading to our campsite in Eguisheim.
Eguisheim is lovely, glad we decided to camp here which is an enjoyable 5 min walk to the centre of the villageLeia mais

Initially we thought this campsite (camping Jungfrau) was a bit too much like a busy ski resort but it was very central with a communal kitchen, living area and a Sri Lankan food truck on Mon/Tues.. lucky for us.
Our pitch overlooked Jungfrau mountain top and two waterfalls. We were here for 4 nights.Leia mais

Mountain hike to Mürren

Getting out of the cable car at Grütschalp wowed us with its stunning view of Jungfrau (tallest mountain in Europe)....along the pathway to Mürren, the three peaks, Jungfrau, Monch & Eigar kept us company along with the sound of cow bells and and church bells filling the fresh but warm air.
As we both rather unfit we found walk challenging so stopped of for a cider, beer, sausage n fries half way at the only restaurant in Winteregg.

This was part of the Swiss adventure i was looking forward to the most and it didn't disappoint! The gondola ride to the top (First), was a scenic 25 min ride over pretty villages.
The cliff walk takes your breath away, the views and the thrill of walking along the edge of the cliff with nothing but metal posts between you the elements was rather exciting.
We ummed and arred about whether we wanted to do the 50min walk to BachpalseeLake as we still hadn't recovered from our previous days hike. Within the first few minutes, we stopped several times to turn back as it all seemed to be uphill. I asked a couple coming back the other way, whether it it was a hard trek and they said yes but it was so worth it so we ventured on and once again, we were not disappointed. It was stunning.
As we started our 50min hike back to cable car, we heard thunder and luckily just made it back before the heavens opened.

Paragliding & evening bike ride

Paragliding was fun and lot easier than i thought, though did feel bit queezy when pilot did some rollercoaster moves.
Andres and Bruno (our pilots) were really friendly, explaining everything, Kerryn even got to fly his by controlling the handles..damn it Bruno, i wanted to do that too ;)
It felt so serene, still and quiet up there.

From our campsite, we joined the pathway that allowed us to cycle along the fast flowing emerald river, between snow capped mountains and lush green fields with interesting wooden chalets that all had red geraniums on their balconies and stores full of wood for the winter. It was enjoyable and flat cycling along a smooth road weaving in and out of forest and stopping to admire the many waterfalls. On the way back, we cycled along the main but fairly quiet road, we must have free-cycled for at least 5 miles without having to touch the padels, wind in hair and in awe of beauty all around.Leia mais

Cycle friendly historical old town. Interesting cathedral, it somehow survived the allied bombings in WW2 when much else didn't.

Our camp site was 8 min cycle ride into old town. Really small pitches, large camper next to us encroached into our space leaving us with even less space.

There was a great, lively open air bar next to campsite where I enjoyed a rather large glass of white wine for only €3.80Leia mais
