      Découverte de Marrakech

      Découverte du "parking " Lârouss et du Riad Lârouss sur les conseils d'Abel. Premier menu très local!
      Première destination la Koutoubia. Majestueuse. Premier bâtiment reconstruit après le tremblement de terre.
      Au passage découverte d'Arnakech : " prend macaron c'est gratuit ! Goûte Goûte !" Tu prends un morceau du bout des lèvres et là " c'est 25 dirhams mr mme".... ça c'est fait....
      Puis abordés par Hamed dans le parc de la Koutoubia. On échange. Très sympa mais nous restonssur nos garde car brieffé par Abdel sur de nombreux "arnaguide". Ils nous donne quelques info sur Marrakech, la Koutoubia, la religion musulmane, la gestion du courrier à Marrakech... puis nous souhaite un bon séjour. Ouf juste un échange avec un gentil Marrakchi ! Mais pas le temps de se le dire qu'il nous rattrape..." Kévin Marie, vient t'es gentil je te montre l'entrée de l'Imam et je t'explique ! Je suis pas un faux guide, je travaille au ministèredu tourisme" Il nous montre vaguement un badge. Il nous donne des explications mais nous restons sur nos gardes... il finit par nous souhaiter une bonne journée sans rien demander... était-il juste sympa ou a-t-il senti à nos têtes qu'il n'obtiendrait rien? Mystère...
      Petit passage sur la place Jeema el fna mais la fatigue se fait grandement sentir... retour au Riad en passant par le Souk! Choc des cultures garanti!      Read more

      Agafay Pause dans le désert

      April 26 in Morocco ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

      Apres une heure de buggy, nous nous arretons au milieu du désert pour un petit thé à la menthe dans un lieu à couper le souffle ! Zone d'arrêt de beaucoup de balades en quad ou buggy, le trafic y est dense. Nous faisons également le point sur notre état... vive la poussière !Read more

      Agafay Couché de soleil

      April 26 in Morocco ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

      Nous repartons en buggy au soleil couchant. Les paysages changent de couleur à chaque instant. Hassan nous arrête sur un point de vue à couper le souffle et nous propose une séance photo. Nous finissons avec encore une trentaine de minutes de buggy pour retourner au camp.
      Apres un dépoussiérage artisanal nous profitons du couché du soleil sur le camp. Sans aucun doute le meilleur moment de ce voyage.
      Puis nous reprenons la voiture. Mohamed s'engage à nouveau sur les pistes en s'excusant de nous balloter. Nous le félicitons pour ses talents de pilote. Il s'arrête en chemin pour nous permettre de faire des photos du soleil que nous avons rattrapé de l'autre côté de la colline.
      Retour sur Marrakech au Riad Lârouss pour des Tajines sur le pouce! Nous n'avons pas la force d'aller plus loin dans le souk.
      Nous rentrons au Riad pour commencer à nous récurer de la tête au pieds! La poussière s'est infiltrée partout...      Read more

      Marrakech: Medina & the Souk

      Started in Fes this morning, had an early morning train to Marrakech, departed at 7:40 for seven hour train trip to Marrakesh. Roel and I shared a train compartment with Izzy and several Morrocan locals, with whom we had many interesting discussions, mostly about motorcycles (Roel) and Izzy was able to speak to one of them in French for quite a while. Everyone here has been very friendly.

      Arrived in Marrakesh, and checked into our hotel, the Caspian, then had about an hour before we All met to take taxis to the Medina and then into the souks. The shopping here is incredible, I only wish I could bring some of it home, or maybe lots of it home!      Read more

      Leise, klein und überwältigend schön!

      1783 in Versailles: Mit den drei ersten Fluggästen Hammel, Hahn und Ente beweisen die Brüder Montgolfiere ihrem König (und auch Marie-Antoinette) in Versaille, dass man in einem „Luftball“ überleben kann. Die Ballonfahrten in Marrakesch sind da zweifellos sicherer, unser Hot-Air-Ballooner Simo hat die „pilot driver license“. Es ist ein Erlebnis der Kategorie „10 von 10 Punkten“. Zwar klappt die Orga nicht wirklich, denn wir werden eine Stunde vor dem verabredeten Zeitpunkt vom Hotel abgeholt und taumeln deshalb schlaftrunken und halb angezogen ins Taxi. Aber die Schwebefahrt selbst mit Blick auf das Atlasgebirge und in verzaubernder Schwerelosigkeit bringt Gänsehaut pur. Zumal die Musikauswahl unseres Piloten wunderbar zu der gleitenden Fortbewegung der Montgolfiere passt. Drei seiner Songs findet ihr in der angehängten Playlist („7 Seconds“ war schon vor 30 Jahren sensationell). Fazit: Aus dem Ballon betrachtet wird die Welt nicht nur leise, sondern auch klein. Aber sie bleibt einfach … überwältigend schön!

      Rock the Kasbah

      Today's destination was the Kasbah of Marrakesh, a large walled district in the southern part of the city, which historically served as the citadel and royal palace of the city.

      We began with a visit to the adjoining Jewish quarter, but were unable to visit the Jewish cemetery as it was closed for their sabbath.

      The surrounding streets were residential with few people around, but we did stumble upon a community bakery where the locals bring their prepared loaves to bake. The bakers invited us in and gave us a sample straight from the oven.

      Lunch was at a local eatery near Place de Ferblantiers, a palm fringed square with many tin and glass artisans, and heaps of tourists.

      We bypassed the Bahia Palace as we'll be going there as part of our tour, but did visit the Saadien's Tombs, a complex of simple mausoleums and tombs, containing the remains of royalty dating back to the 1550s.

      After a snack at a rooftop cafe, we walked back to our accommodation via the now busy laneways of the medina.

      Marrakech- Time to Say Goodbye

      Brian and I have always wanted to come to Morocco - and Brian in particular has always wanted to go to the Sahara - so we’re bummed about him heading home a bit early and missing the desert portion of Morocco - that said it’s been an AMAZING trip together and it’s time to start preparing to come home.

      We all spent 3 days all together in Casablanca and Marrakech before Brian headed home (via Istanbul) and us girls headed to the Sahara. Brian got to see the outside of Ricks Cafe, homage to one of his favorite movies Casablanca. We got to watch sunrise from the rooftop of our riad together, having Moroccan mint tea tour and watching things come to life in the old Medina. We also got explore some Berber villages with the girls before taking Brian to the airport and say goodbye for the next month. It’s a strange thing to have literally been staying in the same room or being side by side 24/7 for 4 months and then to part ways - will take some adjusting for sure.

      If you were to ask the girls their favorite part of Marrakech - they would say the cats. Oh the cats! On the small walkway to our riad/hotel, 3 separate cats gave birth in a 24 hour period. While the cats are feral, many people make an effort to care for them so the cats are quite friendly! We saw lots of little kittens and cats kept trying to get the kids’ attention.

      If you were to ask me my favorite part- it’s the winding pathways along ochre colored walls, colorful clothing the Muslim and Berber women wear, along with the all of the beautifully decorated mosques and frequent prayers over the loudspeakers. It’s the sunrise from the rooftop of our riad. It’s been watching the kids connect with the animals.. Another lovely jolt to the senses…

      As I write this, Brian has just made it home safely — and is girls are currently in Fes, just having finished our time in the Sahara.

      We’ll be touring the city tomorrow and then have one more night before we head to Western Europe. Venice—Munich—Paris—Barcelona. Some flights - lots of train time and then will be time to come home.

      Ill do another post at the end of Morocco - pics here will reflect time in Marrakech and maybe a teaser from the Sahara 🙂

      More impressions of Marrakech

      Vier Tage Abenteuer Hoher Atlas sind vorbei - back to civilization und WiFi, gibt's auch wieder.

      Die folgenden Footprints setzen genau da an, wo sie am 26. September aufgehört haben - viel Spaß, mit weiteren Impressionen aus der Roten Stadt.

      ..... es ist nahezu unmöglich, sich dem orientalischen Zauber von Marrakesch zu entziehen - selbst, wenn sich so wie heute die Sonne versteckt.

      Ein Streifzug durch die Gassen und Gäßchen der Medina, gleicht einem Overkill für alle Sinne.

      Seit dem Frühstück, ist unsere Gruppe vollzählig - eine gute Mischung, das sollte passen!

      Um 15.00 Uhr, heißt es erst einmal byebye Marrakesch - wir brechen auf in den Hohen Atlas.      Read more

      KUTSCHENFAHRT

      Um 16 Uhr sammeln wir uns vorne beim Eingang und fahren mit drei Kutschen über 1,5 Stunden durch Marrakesch hindurch.
      Zuerst in der quirligen Altstadt, dann außen im modernen Viertel, und schlussendlich noch historische Orte wie den Königspalast, das Casino und vorbei an vornehmen hotels.
      Eine sehr abenteuerliche Fahrt durch diese äußerst interessante Stadt dann gehen wir zurück zum Wohnmobil und Waschen unseren Peppi noch runter, das hat sich dieses brave Auto verdient.

      Gerberei

      Nach dem Mittagessen schlendern wir ans andere Ende vom Zug und man führt uns dort in eine Gerberei. Man empfängt uns dort wie üblich mit Pfefferminze um den scharfen Geruch der Gerberei zu übertünnchen.
      Als erstes sehen wir die sogenannte afrikanische Gerberei, welche vornehmlich Ziegen und Schaffelle imprägniert.
      Dann gehen wir noch ein Stück weiter und er führt uns in die marokkanische bzw Berber Gerberei, welche Kamele und kuhfälle verarbeitet.
      Es riecht intensiv.
      Danach bringt uns diese Herr in eine typische Verkaufsstätte für Lederwaren, wo wir dankend ablehnen und dieses Geschäft wieder verlassen.
      Draußen wartet er und bettelt und will 100 Dir haben, wir geben ihm das natürlich nicht mit 20 Dir ist der dann wohl nicht glücklich aber er geht. Wir haben das sehr unangenehm empfunden      Read more
