      Letztes Abendmahl

      3. März in Marokko ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

      Gleich nach dem Frühstück machten wir uns zur etwa 500 Meter entfernten Haltestelle des hop on, hop off Busses auf. Mit dem Bus ließen wir uns dann für 13 Euro p.P. etwas durch die Stadt fahren, wobei mir ständig die Frage kam, wie will der große Bus durch diese engen und zudem zugeparkten Gassen fahren. Am Bahnhof stiegen wir aus, beendeten bei Maroc-Telecom unseren Vertrag fürs Internet und weil der Bus uns zu spät zur Weiterfahrt kam, gingen wir einfach zu Fuß zurück. Unseren Plan, um 15.00 Uhr zur Fähre aufzubrechen, änderten wir kurzerhand, verlängerten unseren Parkschein und fahren jetzt erst morgen über die Straße von Gibraltar.
      Stattdessen gingen wir zu einem weiteren Café, das die Reiseleiterin ausgeguckt hatte. Dem "Café Salon Bleu". Welchen Rang es auf der weltweiten Caféscala einnimmt?? Jedenfalls kann man prima über den Hafen schauen. Dann in die Medina und zum Obst- und Gemüse fassen in den Soukh.
      Und weil es unser letzter Abend in Afrika ist, kehrten wir noch einmal in ein typisches marokkanisches Lokal ein. Mein im blauen Salon aufkeimender Verdacht, dass man sich in Tanger bereits auf europäischen Preisstandart angepasst hat, wurde nicht bestätigt. Vorspeise, Tajine und Couscous mit Rindfleisch, Wasser und ein Tee Vervaine, jetzt aber mit Kräutern, für gerade 18 Euro.
      Der Weg zurück durch die Medina war nochmals ein Ereignis. Wir haben den Eindruck, diese Medina ist die größte und bunteste, die wir bislang gesehen haben.
      Und zum Schluss fiel uns noch etwas auf. Wie bereits in Asilah und Mhedia war auch hier gefühlt die halbe Stadt gegen Abend auf den Beinen, um auf der Strandpromenade zu flanieren      Weiterlesen

      Kochkurs in Tanger

      23. Mai in Marokko ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

      In Tanger wurde ich in einen Kochkurs eingeteilt. Wir haben Tajine gekocht. Zwar war die vorhergehende Stadtführung ein Disaster und mein Guide schon beinahe tot. Doch die Gruppe war mit nur 9 Personen unnormal klein und so konnte ich die Gäste bei der Kochschule, wo wir 4 Stunden waren, etwas auflockern. Am Schluss hatten alle ihren Spass und sie wollten sogar nach der Tour noch etwas mit mir trinken, was wir dann auch getan haben.
      Von der Stadt habe ich leider nicht so viel gesehen, doch was ich gesehen habe, hat Lust auf mehr gemacht. Lust auf die arabische Welt und Lust auf Afrika!      Weiterlesen

      Tanger in Morocco

      From the time we stepped off the boat Sam and I fell victim to the Morocco con. We didn’t know it, but as soon as we stepped into a taxi at the port we were being set up for the evening.

      The taxi driver tried first to charge us too much so we were proud we put our foot down and bargained him down to 20 euros. But he couldn’t speak English well so he organised his English speaking friend to meet us near the hotel to assist us. He took us on a circuitous route to our hotel and provided us with a friend to show us the sights of Tangier (you can see where this is going).

      His friend took us to some sights and then to a rug factory and then to a spice and perfume factory. Yes, I bought a rug much to Sam’s chagrin. But I only paid $80 euro for it so you can see they weren’t overjoyed with our price. Nevertheless it was Sam who first lost his patience with them. After I bought the rug and then we were being shown the spices and perfumes Sam proclaimed very loudly that he had had enough and we were not buying anything.

      Mohammed our guide them took us to his friends special restaurant for dinner. It was traditional Moroccan food which I enjoyed but Sam just knew we were being conned.

      After dinner our guide returned us to our hotel and then demanded 20 euro each for his time. I paid him 5 for each of us and said goodnight. Sam couldn’t believe I paid him anything.

      Sam was most indignant about the whole proceeding and is looking forward to getting out of Morocco and back to Spain. I just see the sport in it. I have been through this many times - in Egypt, in Turkey, in parts of Europe, in Bangkok and now Morocco. It is all part of the sport the tourism game leads to. I actually think we did okay today. Sam just felt we were pawns in their game and that made him very agitated.

      I love Morocco. The sounds, colours, smells, sights are so different to Spain. Or anywhere I have been for that matter. It is certainly a third world country, but if you are keen to get a bit off the beaten track, it is fantastic. Quite beautiful. I don’t think Sam will hurry back, but I could spend more time here for sure. Just don’t expect the refined tourist experience that is usual in Europe.

      We are staying in a hotel in the Medina (old city of Tanger) where the market is located. The souk. It is very characteristic of old Morocco. Most of the buildings are 800 years old and the fortress is over 1000 years old. An amazing place.      Weiterlesen

      Tangier

      I traveled for 3 hours by coach on a scenic coastal road to Tangier, the beautiful light and multicul- tural spirit of which have drawn travelers to Morocco for centuries. People have been living in Tangier since colonists from Carthage settled there in the fifth century BC, and over the years it has traded hands between several kingdoms and empires, and served as refuge for countless cultures.
      I arrive around 11:30am and check into the hotel, which is located near Tangier’s beach and city center and offers up close views of the Strait of Gibraltar and the Atlantic Ocean.

      Afternoon: Beginning at about 2pm, we’ll experience the lively modern culture of this ancient coastal city during a 3.5-hour guided tour that includes the medina, the Petit Socco (Little Square), and the Grand Socca (Large Square). We return to the hotel around 5:30pm.      Weiterlesen

      Tangier Medina 1

      I venture out for a stroll through Tangier’s medina, with its eclectic mix of ancient architecture and modern touches like more recently- planted palm trees that line some of the streets. While exploring the meandering maze of medina lanes, a helpful tip to keep in mind is that, when in doubt, walking uphill (in pretty much any direction) will usually lead you to an exit.

      The medina, the top attraction of Tangier, is a labyrinth of alleyways both commercial and residential. It's contained by the walls of a 15th-century Portuguese fortress, although most buildings are actually relatively new for a Moroccan medina.       Museum—Tangier American Legation 1

      In 1777 Morocco was the first country to recognize American independence. In 1821 the Sultan of Morocco gave the US a building in the Médina of Tangier—the Legation. As America’s oldest diplomatic property, the Legation stands as the only US Historic Landmark overseas.

      High Speed Train

      The trip from Tangier to Kenitra will take 50 minutes while the trip from Tangier to Rabat will take 80 minutes. Khlie revealed that the high speed train will eventually take 1 hour between Tangier and Rabat after work is completed on the rails between the two cities, allowing the train to travel at optimal speeds.Weiterlesen

      First dinner in Tangier

      Ferry arrived in Tangier Ville. Once again we are screened for the CoronaVirus CoVid-19. We are both virus free. We walk to the area where we exchange dollars for Dirhams (mad).
      I first exchange $60.00 USd. Then upon learning Omar exchanged $250.usd I go back exchange another $100.usd for mad.

      Afterwards we make our way to the Taxis where the hustle begins. One guy runs ahead of everyone else to get our business. Several others cut him off and tells him to get back in line it wasn’t his turn to get next customer( namely us). As they argue with him several others seeing the opportunity they couldn’t pass up. They start yelling, calling us to get into their taxi. Even walking up to us to direct us. Both Omar and are now separated by about 15 feet apart. We both stop. Trying to figure out what to do. Finally we get a guy with two others who seems to have taken control of the chaotic scene. He directs us to a taxi. Another man standing by offers his support of the three drivers. As we get situated this last guy asks for 1 euro for his help. We pass on his request. $45 mad to take us to the train station.
      After purchasing our train tickets we head up stairs to the food court for a little dinner. Once at the top we are greeted by McDonalds Hamburgers. Taco Kebabs and another Taco fast food stand. We finally Settled for a Italian restaurant. I ordered a Rustic Pizza.

      Salam Alekum Tanger! مرحبا المغرب! 🇲🇦

      Nach ungefähr einer Stunde hieß es endlich Salam Alekum Marokko als unser 19tes gemeinsames Land. Auch und fast noch wichtiger waren es unsere ersten Schritte in Afrika, dem dritten Kontinent gemeinsam! Sehr spannend, dass wir in diesem Urlaub drei Länder und zwei Kontinente besucht haben. Natürlich auch mit viel Reisen verbunden aber definitiv eine gute Entscheidung!
      Kaum hatte die Fähre angelegt hieß es raus aus dem Schiff und durch die Grenzkontrolle. Kurz Reisepass und Stempel mit der Einreisegenehmigung vorzeigen und los in die Stadt Tangier, bzw auf marokkanisch Tanger. Direkt wenn man aus dem Hafen geht stößt man auch auf die erste Moschee, die Mosquée du Port. Kurz um den Kreisverkehr gelaufen stößt man auf Centre d'Interprétation des Fortifications und Muraille de Tanger, die Spitze der Festung der Stadt. Sehr spannende Anblicke und auch sehr spannend um den Kreisverkehr zu kommen. Gab zwar Zebrastreifen, es haben aber nicht alle drauf geachtet. Sicherlich aber auch nicht weniger als in Italien. Nach dem Blick auf die erste Moschee und den ersten Teil der Festungsmauer ging’s weiter zum Platz Bab El Marsa, wo wir dann durch ein Stadttor ins Zentrum der Stadt Tangier gegangen sind.       Start der Erkundung von Tangier

      Als wir angekommen sind war es erst mal ein kleiner Kulturschock, allen voran weil hier natürlich vieles ganz anders ist. Von anderen Verhalten der Menschen, hin zur Kultur, bis zur Hygiene/Gerüche. An manches hatten wir uns schnell gewöhnt, an manches eher langsam. Während wir anfangs noch etwas zurückhaltend und vorsichtig waren, wurden wir immer vertrauter, desto aktiver und lebendiger die Stadt mit dem fortschreiten der Zeit wurde. Zum Start unserer Tour war es noch sehr ruhig, da die meisten Läden noch zu waren. Erst um 10:45 Uhr haben dann die meisten Läden im Bazar geöffnet und damit wurde das Leben in den Straßen auch immer mehr. Wie gewohnt an dieser Stelle die Fakten zur fast Millionenstadt mit ca. 980.000 Einwohner und damit fast so groß wie München und größer als Nürnberg. Tanger (oder auch Tangier genannt) im Norden Marokkos liegt an der nordafrikanischen Küste westlich der Straße von Gibraltar. Das Klima wird sowohl vom Mittelmeer als auch vom Atlantik beeinflusst und kann sowohl mild als auch kalt und stürmisch sein. Der für marokkanische Verhältnisse reichliche Regen fällt ganz überwiegend in den Wintermonaten. Heute war’s zum Glück trocken und sonnig, Dank Wind aber nicht zu heiß. Wahrscheinlich wurde Tanger im 5. oder 6. Jahrhundert v. Chr. von Karthagern gegründet. Später geriet die Siedlung Tingis unter römische bzw. byzantinische Herrschaft, bevor sie im Jahr 702 von den Arabern erobert wurde. Tanger ist in erster Linie eine Hafen- und Handelsstadt, doch haben sich auch viele Handwerksbetriebe und Dienstleister aller Art angesiedelt. Zum Beispiel hat sich auch der Automobil-Konzern Renault hier niedergelassen und produziert hier seit dem Jahr 2012 Fahrzeuge der Konzernmarke Dacia.Weiterlesen
