    Little India

    January 12 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Indian market streets and Indian hawker center. Interesting place, worth a visit. I noticed the level of cleanliness isn't what it's like in chinatown area and everything was a bit more chaotic (including the traffic), but the service in shops and food places was a lot nicer. People greeted you and really took care that you had everything you needed. Also I found a dress. Yes, now I have to get rid of something else in my full backpack! Amateur packer 👌🏻😎Read more

    A day in Little India

    April 7, 2018 in Singapore ⋅

The sights and smells of Little India are like no other. There is so much to see and so much food to try. We had a recommendation from a local of a place just around the corner from where we met him, with the claim of the best biryani in the city. It didn’t disappoint, with omelette style eggs, whole chicken eggs and scoops of vegetables that, in spite of being fantastic, we aren’t totally sure what they were. An extremely interesting walk through a Hindu temple, that we wish someone could explain to us. The ornateness of the building is unreal. It was the day before the Tamil New Year, and preparations were taking place on some of the streets.Read more

    Singapore

    February 2, 2018 in Singapore ⋅

    Hello Singapore... AGAIN!

    November 16, 2018 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

As my brother is visiting Singapore we decided to take a weekend break to Singapore before heading to India.

Up we got and when researching which terminal we fly from we found out about a terminal fee that foreigners have to pay. We haf the exact amount of cash if we didn't buy breakfast or lunch. Each ATM transaction costs £3.50 apart from at a HSBC bank. We decided to get a quick breakfast and then ask our taxi driver to go via the bank. And he kindly did! I must admit this hidden terminal fee has left quite a sour feeling in us as its not a small fee but actually quite high and you can only pay in cash. I can imagine there being quite a panic at the airport with people who didn't know about it.

Luckily all was OK when we got to the airport. On arrival we had exactly 47 pesos remaining, so obviously we had to pay the airport. Unfortunately we were flying out of a brand new terminal and the number of shops was very limited and ridiculously expensive (even compared to European standards). The only shop I thought we might be able to get something was WH Smiths but it was so new there were no prices on anything so I went to the checkout and just asked what I could buy. The lady said I could buy a packet of crisp for 50 pesos... I said I literally only have 47. She then said I could get mentos, but again they were 50 pesos. This time she replied with oh don't worry about the 3 and happily handed over a packet of mentos! What generosity!

When waiting for our flight I looked at my skin and I was all of a sudden absolutely covered in dry skin. I looked like a snake shedding it's coat. It was so bizarre and to be honest I was pretty worried. Luckily I was going to Singapore and I'd be able to get some treatment if needed.

The flight was pretty standard and we chatted to a guy from Nottingham who was sat with us, which helped the time passby. Within no time we were in Singapore!

As we've flown here a couple of times now it kind of feels like home when we arrive. First stop was an emergency stop at the pharmacy and then we headed to Amber's flat to meet Viraf. It was so nice to see them again 😊

For dinner we obviously went to our favourite place, Little India, for an enormous Paper Dosa and then Gulab Jamun for dessert.

    Little India

    April 9, 2017 in Singapore ⋅

Little India is the one place in Singapore I was advised to not wander to alone. Luckily, an adventurous colleague was willing to tag along.

It was vey similar to China Town in its set up, but with it's own cultural spin. I loved the colors and the traditional music that played in all the shops we passed.Read more

    Abdul Gafoor Mosque

    April 9, 2017 in Singapore ⋅

"Although I may not agree with some of the beliefs, I respect them."

Continuing on with my visit to the various temples around Singapore, I popped in a local mosque in little India that welcomes visitors. At the visitors center, you can borrow a robe and read about the religion before taking a self guided tour.Read more

    Orchard Road vs. Little India

    December 3, 2016 in Singapore ⋅

Those two places within the same city could hardly be more different. While Orchard Road invites to high end shopping Zara over Victoria's Secret up to Chanel and Louis Vuitton, Little India basically sticks to its name: a lively (and a bit smelly) corner in Singapore, full of street markets, mosques, temples and people. However, there seemed to be an alarmingly small share: especially when walking back to the metro station (after a delicious dinner at a small Indian street restaurant), we passed through streets where I was the only female around.
Before heading back to the hotel, my dad and I took a short look at Gardens by the Bay.

    Singapur, Little India

    December 21, 2018 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Read more
