      Hrad and Most SNP

      A walk up to the upside-down table (Bratislava Castle) this afternoon, a relatively new structure by European standards which sounds like it likes to periodically burn down. It also afforded a great view of the UFO-like Bridge of Slovakian National Uprising, which is interesting as a cable structure and as it has a restaurant at the top!Les mer

      Polen ade, Slowakei wir kommen

      Heute ging es am morgen mit Regen weiter. Zwar nicht so heftig wie gestern, aber immer wider. Das komische daran war, dass wenn Kerstin ihre Regenjacke auszog es kurz darauf wieder 🌧.
      Also gab es dienstlichen Befehl die Regenjacke anzulassen. Wir fuhren über kleinste Straßen von Polen in die Slowakei. Kein Verkehr und auch genial zum Motorradfahren. Die Dörfer sind nich ganz so schön wie die in Polen aber trotzdem alles sehr Interessant.
      Leider gibt es hier noch keinen TET, der ist noch in der Erkundungsphase. Sobalds den gibt bin ich wieder hier.
      Untergekommen sind wir heute in einer Pension in einem Skigebiet mit uriger Kneipe.
      NACHTRAG:
      Was das Reisen so interessant macht ist ja die Leute die man trifft. Wir trafen gestern Abend noch eine Slowakin und zwei Slowaken. Was hatten wir für einen netten Abend. Das kann man wieder nicht beschreiben das muss man erleben. Danke nochmals für die Gastfreundschaft.      Les mer

      Neues Motorradeldorado entdeckt

      Heute früh ging es bei Nieselregen weiter in die Slowakei.

      Die Landschaft veränderte sich mit dem Grenzübertritt. Hier ist die Landschaft von kleinen Gebirgszügen geprägt durch und über die kleine, kurvige Gebirgsstraßen führen. Sehr schön zum Motorradfahren, leider hatten wir immer wieder Regenschauer. Aber hier waren wir noch nicht das letztes mal 👍👍.

      Im Gegensatz zu Polen sind die Dörfer hier noch sehr ursprünglich und ärmlich. Was auch sehr auffällig ist dass hier viele Roma ansässig sind. Die Kinder sind in Scharren am Straßenrand und in den Siedlungen fehlt auch die Müllentsorgung, sodass alles im Fluss landet.

      Abends finden wir eine sehr schöne abgelegene Pension, wo wir den Tag mit unseren heutigen Eindrücken Revue passieren lassen.      Les mer

      Next country - Slovakia

      Our route started with a pretty steep climb: 450m of elevation gain within the first 10km. However, it was a remote forest road, the locals had drawn beer signs on the road for motivation and the view on top made up for the effort! We were in a little ski resort with cute wooden apartment houses and hotels.
      This was also the point where we crossed to Slovakia - our first time in this country! After the climb, we were treated with a super nice 23km downhill ride on a paved forest road along a little stream. It ended at a canal which we followed until we reached Zilina. Here we stopped for lunch in the historical old town.
      From Zilina, it wasn't too far to our campsite anymore. 10km along the canal again with tailwinds and another 10km on a busy road into a smaller valley. We went quite fast, as the Slovakian drivers are as crazy as the Czech drivers, so it wasn't too much fun.
      When we reached the campground, we went for a bath in the cold river to relax our tired muscles.      Les mer

      Thunderstorm hopping

      The weather forecast showed some rain and thunderstorms for today, so we got up early to start our ride. We climbed our first hill right at the beginning, went down again on the other side - and had to look for shelter for the first time. It rained heavily, but only for about 15 minutes, so we could continue.
      It was dry for the next 3 hours, so we climbed up the next pass. The bike path was really nice: no cars, green, quiet, so we really enjoyed this part of today's route.
      Then we saw the next thunderstorm chasing us from behind. We cycled as fast as possible on a busy road around a lake and found shelter again when the storm was very close. We could see the rain only a couple of hundred meters away, but it didn't hit us.
      However, we knew we only had about 45min until the next bigger storm, so we had to speed up. We were lucky again! We just reached our guesthouse before it started to rain for the rest of the evening. Glad we decided to exchange our tent with a dry bed tonight 😉      Les mer

      Grenzgang

      Wir haben mal wieder den direkten Weg verlassen und fahren parallel zur slovakischen Grenze in Österreich Richtig Bratislava. Eigentlich wollten wir das Dreiländereck besuchen, aber da kommt man nicht so einfach hin. Dafür haben wir den Grenzfluss "March" zu Fuß überquert und dabei den Grenzcache gefunden. Länderpunkt! Danach ging es aber erst mal wieder nach Österreich weil wir hier ne Pizzeria gesehen haben.Les mer

      Bratislava I

      Heute ging es vom Campingplatz mit der Straßenbahn in die Stadt. Dort waren wir in der Altstadt und anschließend am Donau-Ufer für den Labcache. In der "Modernen Stadt" konnte ich ein paar Schuhe ergattern, der Trend geht zum Zweitschuh! Jetzt bin ich ausgerüstet. Anschließend hoch zur Burg und dann endlich was zu Futtern. Die Altstadt ist sehr schön, aber auch ziemlich übersichtlich. Der Trip hat sich aber auf jeden Fall gelohnt. Hier kann man bestimmt noch mal her kommen. Heute waren es 22.500 Schritte!Les mer

      Beatislava II

      Hier die Ergänzung/Fortsetzung zu dem vorherigen Footprint. Die Temperaturen in der Sonne waren inzwischen auf 40 Grad gestiegen, dennoch haben wir den Rundgang nach der Stärkung durch die schöne Altstadt fortgesetzt. Das Michaelistor und der Präsidentenpalast standen auf dem Programm.Les mer

      Dag 33

      Finishing the high Tatra half circle

      The morning started with an enormous breakfast, sun and nice views of the Tatra mountains. What else could you wish for as a cyclist?
      We left our guesthouse and started into a great day of cycling. The first little path was a bit adventurous and we had to push the bikes through some muddy bits. Then we followed the main road along the mountain range and Tatra National Park. We were happy we were here on a weekday. I can imagine it's very busy with tourists on weekends.
      The road led back into Slovakia, went around the Tatra on the East side and then turned West along the South side of the Tatra. We had to climb a lot, but with a steady elevation gain and spectacular nature it felt really easy. Plus, we also had some nice downhills.
      As we had some time left in the afternoon, we decided to do a little detour to Lake Strbske Pleso which was the highest point of our Europe trip so far. From here, we only had to roll downhill to Svit where we were welcomed by Tom and Luba, our warmshowers hosts. They also had to cut their Panamericana trip short because of Covid, so we had lots to talk about.      Les mer

      Schloss von Bojnice

      Heute morgen ging es von Bratislava zum 150 Kilometer entfernten Schloss Bojnice, Richtung Nordosten. Das romantische Schloss erinnert ein bisschen an Neuschwanstein oder die Schlösser an der Loire. Es ist ein beliebter Drehort für Märchenfilme, wie z. B. Prinzessin Fantaghirò. Im Jahr 2006 zog das Schloss 200.000 Besucher an, sagt Wikipedia.
      Wir waren nicht drin, aber der kleine Umweg hat sich gelohnt. Unter anderem gab es dort vier Caches.      Les mer
