      Parc Güell en avant-midi

      Notre première activité pour notre dimanche chargé est la visite du parc Güell. Et oui, on a réservé le parc et la Sagrada Familia la même journée, faute de dispo pour les billets! Donc voilà, on prend le bus et vers 10h30 on fait notre entrée au parc historique. Le parc a été construit dès 1900 par Eusebi Güell, un industriel qui était aussi un ami de Antoni Gaudi. Les deux ont travaillé ensemble dans la création de ce parc unique. C'est un espace vert un peu en hauteur relativement près du centre-ville.

      Après un arrêt aux modules de jeux (pour Sam, parc = modules de jeux!), on se promène le reste de l'avant-midi pour découvrir le parc dans toute sa splendeur. L'aménagement du parc est comme nul autre: verdure, arches et ponts piétonniers occupent une grande partie de l'espace, mais on trouve aussi l'imposante terrasse qui surplombe le parc et nous donne un superbe point de vue sur la ville plus bas. On trouve la touche magique de Gaudi un peu partout dans le parc. On y trouve aussi quelques demeures qu'il a conçues. C'est moins impressionnant en termes de finition que la casa Batlló par exemple, mais ça reste unique et magnifique.

      Puis arrive le moment où on casse la croûte et on repart vers notre logement pour faire la siesta, histoire de recharger les batteries avant de visiter la Sagrada Familia...      Okumaya devam et

      Park Güell

      Wir haben verlängert 😁 mal wieder. Das ist das schöne am Reisen ohne Plan. Barcelona und unsere perfekte Unterkunft in Badalona haben uns überzeugt. Unsere chinesische Vermieterin ist sagenhaft umsorgend.
      Die Metro bringt uns flott in die Innenstadt, von wo aus wir den nördlichen Bezirk erkunden.

      Vorbei am Campus Sant Pau gehen wir zum Park Güell. Die Parkanlage, gestaltet von Antoni Gaudí, sollte ursprünglich eine Siedlung in Mitten einer riesigen Gartenanlage werden. Ein Freund Gaudís, der Industrielle Eusebi Güell i Bacigalupi wollte dort 60 Häuser erbauen lassen, um diese dann gewinnbringend zu verkaufen.
      Die Grundstücke fanden keine Käufer, die einzigen Häuser, die im Park entstanden, waren das Pförtnerhaus und das Verwaltungsgebäude am Haupteingang sowie das von Gaudís Mitarbeiter Francesc Berenguer errichtete Wohnhaus, in dem Gaudí von 1906 bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 1926 lebte. 1923 schenkte Güell dieses Grundstück der Stadt, und seither ist es öffentlicher Park. In die pure Natur sind hier und da architektonische Elemente hineingesetzt, die unzählige Überraschungen bereit halten. Imposant ist der als Versammlungs- und Theaterplatz gedachte Terrassenplatz. Die Umfassungsmauer ist mit einer rundum laufenden, mosaikverzierten Bank eingefasst und von hier haben wir einen phantastischen Ausblick auf Barcelona.
      Der Raum unterhalb dieses Platzes, der von dorischen Säulen getragen wird, sollte als Markthalle dienen. Die Decke wurde von Jujol gestaltet. Er machte aus dem, was andere wegwarfen, kleine Kunstwerke. In den Deckenmedaillons sind zerbrochene Teller, Porzellanpuppen, Flaschen und Sektgläser, Aschenbecher und Blumentöpfe zu faszinierenden Farbspielen collagiert.
      Was Gaudí und seine Helfer aus dem Ganzen machten, wurde zwar keine Gartenstadt, aber dafür ein Weltkulturgut, das die UNESCO 1984 unter Denkmalschutz stellte.
      Heute ist es wirklich ein Erholungspark für die Bewohner von Barcelona, da es auch an heißen Tagen hier oben angenehm kühl ist.
      Im Frühling ist es hier sicherlich noch viel schöner, wenn alles zu sprießen und blühen beginnt.

      Mit der Metro lassen wir uns wieder in die City kutschieren und im El Nacional probieren wir uns durch die Tapas. Manchmal sehr überraschend, was dann auf den Tisch kommt.

      Danach durchstreifen wir nochmal die schön illuminierte Altstadt. Die Straßen und Bars sind voll mit Menschen und viele kleine Geschäfte laden zum Stöbern ein.      Okumaya devam et

      Ausblick auf Regen 🌧

      Da ich wandern liebe, habe ich mich sehr über unseren heutigen Ausflug zu den ehemaligen Luftabwehrbunkern, die im höher gelegenen Teil von Barcelona liegen, gefreut. Unser Spaziergang dorthin dauerte circa 1 1/2 Stunden und die zweite Hälfte ging steil bergauf. Heute war ich mal die Person die fragte: Wann sind wir denn da? Die Antwort hierauf war: Wir sind gleich da, nur ein bisschen noch (das ist übrigens eine der größten Lügen, die man beim Wandern überhaupt erzählen kann) 😂 Oben angekommen hatte sich die Tour dann aber alle Mal gelohnt, denn der Ausblick über die Stadt war wunderbar, man konnte sogar das Meer sehen 🏙 🌊 in der Ferne konnte man aber tatsächlich schon sehen, dass es über einem anderen Viertel Barcelonas stark regnete.

      Auf unserem Rückweg mussten wir dann auch feststellen: Wenn es in Barcelona mal regnet, dann so richtig! 😅🌧 klatschnass kamen wir also wieder zu Hause an und haben unsere Klamotten erst einmal zum trocknen aufgehangen 👚 👖
      Den Abend haben wir gemütlich mit Snacks und Pixar-Filmen auf dem Sofa verbracht, während es draußen wie aus Eimern geschüttet hat 📺🍿      Okumaya devam et

      Bombed in Barcelona

      No, unfortunately, it wasn't booze. We were checking out the views at the Montjuïc Castle above the city, and a b*****d seagull let rip. Joanne's of the opinion that it had been on an avocado diet, you can imagine the rest. Helluva mess, got 4 of us, but Joanne and I took the brunt of it.
      Wandered all around but didn't bother going inside many of the big ticket items. Actually, I didn't get a lot of choice in some cases as you have to book 4 days plus in advance. We weren't sure we'd even be here!
      Enjoyed the waterfront and the preparation for the America's cup. Saw someone testing a boat way out to sea, very fast with 3 chase boats. It's pretty impressive even from a great distance. Missed getting an invite to Alinghis black tie night for some reas6n.
      I wouldn't swap Wangamata for Barcelona beaches...even with the odd topless bird thrown in. Crowded, no waves, dirty cigarette butts everywhere, and the sand looks like it needs replacing! Still hugely popular though.
      Should have been some awesome water falls/ fountains around the plaza Espana and Olympic stadiums, but they're turned off for maintenance. Bugger.
      Travel tip; if it's worth seeing, it's expensive and you'll need to book ahead, by days if not weeks. Then enjoy the crowds. We mostly didn't bother.      Okumaya devam et

      Barcelona intensiv

      Wir haben einen Sightseeing-Tag vor uns. Gestartet wird in der U-Bahn mit der wir zur Casa Mila fahren. Wir sehen uns das Gaudi-Haus von außen an und spazieren die volle Straße Richtung Placa Cataluna vorbei an der Casa Batlo. Der Placa Cataluna ist die volle Baustelle besiedelt von 1000 Tauben. Wir wandern weiter ins Barri Gothic, schlendern durch die Gassen und machen Pause in einem hippen TexMex-Schuppen. Danach sehen wir uns den Placa Reial an und gehen der Rambla entlang zur Columbus-Statue. Am Meer wird es windig, Oliver möchte rein und wir beschließen das Aquarium zu besuchen. Danach fahren wir noch mit der Stadtseilbahn zum Montjuïc rauf. Hier können wir Barcelona von oben bestaunen. Leider zieht schnell Hunger auf und wir spazieren etwas weniger gemütlich wie gewollt wieder Richtung Innenstadt. In unserem Hood zieht es uns dieses Mal in den KFC zum Abendessen.       Hospital de Sant Pau

      Das Hospital de Sant Pau ist ein Klinikkomplex im katalanischen Jugendstil. Es ist definitiv alleine von der Architektur schon sehenswert und da es noch wirklich weit von der Sagrada entfernt liegt kann man diese beiden Einrichtungen sehr gut miteinander verbinden.Okumaya devam et

      Spektakuläre Anlage, muss man aber nicht unbedingt besucht haben, wenn man in Barcelona ist. Das Haupthaus von vorne zu bewundern hätte mir persönlich auch gereicht… Die Anlage an sich ist sehr faszinierend, aber Krankenhaus bleibt Krankenhaus! Ich fand die Ausstellung der alten Instrumente eher gruselig! Wie ein Krankensaal früher aussah weiß ich aus Filmen 😃, ich war froh, als wir wieder raus waren…Okumaya devam et

      Erstmal in Ruhe die Hänge erkunden. Ich hatte Hoffnung auf ein Café und einen lecker Espresso aber nichts zu sehen. Also Thermosflasche mit Tee raus und Pause gemacht. Das Gesicht zur Sonne und Ahhhh.. gelegentlich zur Jogataube geschielt. Steht die in der Sonne auf einem Bein .. plumps fiel sie um. Macht gar kein Joga.. hat nur ein Bein 🫣Okumaya devam et

      A Walk in Gaudi’s Park Güell

      We heard about a fairytale park with beautiful views of the city and with a World’s Heritage Site designation (1984). Being that Park Güell is another of Gaudi’s creations, we thought that a visit to that park would be a nice way to spend our last day in Barcelona.

      Once again, it was recommended that we prebook online seniors’ tickets to avoid lineups into Park Güell. That’s what we did but as today was the first day of school after Xmas holidays, the lineups weren’t bad. Up until lately, people could enter the park for free but now there is a fee to enter.

      The park is not that far away from where we are (5km) but up a steep hill. We used our metro pass to catch a bus (# 50) to Catalunya Square and then caught bus #24 to the park’s side entrance.

      We easily wandered for a couple of hours through Park Güell’s 17 hectares. It is one of the largest green spaces in Barcelona with large gardens and interesting architectural features. Something novel around every corner. We had fun trying to spot the green Monk Parrots and their nests in the palm trees,

      There are two sections - one is mainly green spaces and the other is the Monumental Zone which is where we ended up. We started in the green area and enjoyed listening to the echoes of buskers singing great old songs, like my dad’s favourite, The Autumn Leaves and our favourites like Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and the Beatle’s Blackbird song.

      Park Guell is the size of 13 city blocks and has a viewing terrace with a magnificent panoramic view of the city and the Mediterranean Sea. The balustrade with seats were built to fit your body. Apparently Gaudi had one of his workers drop his pants and make an impression of his rear end in order to create an ergonomic seat. They are comfy!

      Once again, lots to see - columns, colourful ceramics, a mosaic dragon, a market place and three crosses at the highest point.

      Park Guell was conceived in 1900 by the wealthy industrialist Eusebi Güell. His intention was to create a lavish, Utopian housing development in the middle of a park using the world’s most cutting-edge Barcelona architecture.

      Gaudi was asked to design 60 luxury homes for a planned community far away from Barcelona’s smoky factories – all with the latest technology and a touch of art. In the end, the houses didn’t sell and Park Güell construction was halted in 1914. Only two homes and the park were finished! Guell donated the park to the city in 1922.

      It was a cool but sunny day so we decided to leisurely walk back through the city, all downhill, to our hotel. All in all, we walked 10.5 km.

      Tomorrow, we are going to Monserrat, an old Benedictine monastery, in the mountains. A little planning is needed tonight.      Okumaya devam et

      Parc Güell

      Parc Güell was absolutely one of the coolest and most unique things I’ve seen on this trip. I’ve never been somewhere like it - a sort of half park, half museum overlooking the city. It apparently was some urban development project led by the architect Antoni Gaudí, who is super famous in Barcelona, that ended up turning into a museum. It is full of really interesting sculptures, structures, and houses built in his style. It feels like being in a Dr. Seuss book. It was also full of trees and birds and had incredible views of the city. It was really special in a lot of different ways. Super unique place!Okumaya devam et
