    Schmitten, Switzerland

    February 7 in Switzerland

Whit and I stayed for about a week in Schmitten, Switzerland with my aunt Fran (we went to Verbier for the weekend). Our highlight during this stay was hiking in the alps near to a holiday house that my mum's family stayed when they were young. Fran brought along cervala sausages for lunch and we made a fire in the snow to roast them. It was a quintessential Swiss experience.

Our other activities this week included hosting a dinner party for some old friends of my parents, eating delicious meals prepared by either Fran or Susan (Fran' s partner), and playing SkipBo (a fun card game).

Exciting family news: We welcomed our neice into the world! Gracyn Elizabeth Gresham born Feb 6, 2018, 8lbs 13oz.

    Rigi - Panorama Trail

    June 7, 2017 in Switzerland

On our third day we woke up early to catch the train to Lucerne where we got on a boat to Küssnacht. From there we took the train again to get to Weggis where we were able to take the Gondola/Cable car up to the Rigi Kulm Peak!

Amazing! A bit chilly and windy but who cares if you have this view?!

We took the Panorama trail to Rigi Scheidegg and on our way we passed many cows and nice huts! The view was (again) fantastic and breathtaking and I'm glad that the pictures turned out so well :)
We actually planned to take the gondola there to get back to Weggis, but when we arrived late in the afternoon the lady at the little shop just laughed at us and said that the gondola just closed for repairs .... and then she said that the last gondola down goes within the next hour from a station which is about an hour away from there.

My mom and me just looked at each other .... having totally different reactions to the situation ... me: laughing and thinking how funny life can be sometimes and my mom: freaking out because she didn't expect us to be at the gondola in time and being afraid that we have to walk aaaall the way down to the bottom.
While we were "running" to the next station I told her that it could be worse but she was totally in her zone :-D
We made it back in time and everything was good (what else??) and we enjoyed our boat ride watching the sun setting over the lake and the mountains ...

Etappe 7 Rheinfelden naar Arth 100km

    July 19, 2017 in Switzerland

De stemming is prima rn we gaan ervoor..Forza Italia!!Read more

    Coffee and Crazy Golf

    July 24, 2016 in Switzerland

A nice walk around the village after breakfast with a stop so Louie could play in the park while we all had coffee. Louie challenged John and Francis to a game of crazy mini golf. We headed back to the Fisher's for lunch and Francis made a yummy fondue. Unfortunately, we had to leave the Fishers to return to Zurich.

Thankyou Francis and Kate for a most enjoyable weekend and Louie for allowing us to be your Aussie grandparents for a few daysRead more

    Bern, Switzerland

    May 5 in Switzerland

Another fantastic day in Swizerland! A 90 minute train trip from Schwyz found us in Bern where Imelda's daughter, Jeanine, and her partner Oliver live.

With Imelda and Rische we toured this beautiful city, historic sites, including their Capitol building, got a fantastic history lesson and, of course, shopped.

We loved how our hosts insisted on stopping every hour or so for coffee, beer and a small snack. Most memorable stop was for a beer and snack at Albert Einstein's home.

Last stop was the Rose Garden obetlooking old Bern city. Ed had a chance to discuss relativity with Albert and suggest he square the value of "c" to make his theory work.

At days end Jeanine and Oliver hosted us in their home for dinner. Oliver made fantastic civiche then grilled chicken and wurst (sausage) on their apartment's deck. Wunderbar!

A fast walk to the bus stop got us back to the train station barely in time for the last train back to Schwyz and we were back just after midnight. Thank goodness for Swiss obsession with being on time.
