    Cheyenne, Wyoming

March 29, 2015 in the United States

We varied our route by driving through Denver and then north to Cheyenne. Fortunately it was a Sunday afternoon so we didn't encounter heavy traffic in downtown Denver. Wyoming had a speed limit of 80 mph (130 kph). We had never seen such a speed limit before. It took us 8 hours for the 492 mile (792 km) trip.Read more

    Cheyenne, Wy

May 30, 2018 in the United States

Glad to cross another time zone (mountain). Makes arrival time better. However, Rosie hasn’t adjusted so she wakes me up at 6:00am EDT no matter where we are. Gotta work on that.

Big thunderstorm cleaned off all the bugs on arrival.

Nice 80mph area on I-80 on way here.

Sights are incredible from Kansas City. Pass miles and miles of plains, rolling hills and then the hills get bigger, leading to the Rockies.

Anyone that thinks our country is overcrowded needs to get on I-70/80. Miles and miles of open country. Incredibly beautiful. The return trip will be more of a sight-seeing trip and we’ll have more pictures.

Cheyenne is full of refineries....not very attractive but prosperous.

Cool trains though. 4 engines in front, 1 in rear and over 100 double decker cars.

    Trolley Tour

May 7, 2018 in the United States

Spontaneously we decided to buy tickets for the historic trolley tour (first open day of the year) and we were definitely glad we did! Our tour guide did a great job of outlining the historic roots of the town and the evolution through the years. The tour read like a good book detailing the escapades of cowboys, lawmen, cattle rustlers, and more. The town has done a great job preserving and restoring many historic buildings (although its shocking how frequently severe fires ripped through these old towns taking out many buildings).

In July the town holds Frontier Days, an annual rodeo and Wild West celebration held in July. The rodeo itself sounds epic, and the town holds special tours, staged shoot-em-ups in town, and an old frontier town. As you can imagine, the celebration draws in 200,000 people! It must be absolutely crazy to see.

We pulled into Cheyenne last night and found our RV Park. We plan on exploring Cheyenne and Laramie today and get back on the freeway tomorrow.

Cheyenne is a cute town of about 60,000 that was founded when the Union Pacific started building the railroad through the area. Next the cattle barons moved into town and started ranching. It sounds like it definitely deserves its Wild West reputation!

We ate brunch at the R&B cafe which is decorated throughout with Elvis memorabilia. Best breakfast burrito I think I’ve ever had!

    Cheyenne Wyoming

May 6, 2016 in the United States

Cheyenne seems to have been a crossroads for some of the most notorious and entertaining Western history with many famous people making appearances, such as Bat Masterson, Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane and many others. But there's not much of it left to see. Just passing through here. Leaving Wyoming today.Read more

    Cheyenne, Wyoming

August 15, 2018 in the United States

That's right, I'm off the trail, got a rental car and am wandering around the country for a while. Didn't want to rush home, so I decided to drive. It has been decided that I'll go a northerly route toward Minnesota and the Great Lakes. Might bump into Lake Michigan and go South for a while. I'll try to avoid big cities. Could be interesting.
I just read my last post. The reason I got off the trail is because my right shoulder is torched. Chronic problem that flared up and was just wearing me down. I got 175 miles done and I got to see what the Rockies we're like to hike . I'm good.
