    So much green.

    December 18, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 1 °C

Today we had booked to go to Liberty Island to see Lady Liberty but unfortunately we missed our train to the ferry terminal which resulted in missing our ferry time. We decided to head down to the terminal anyway. Leaving the train station we got sucked in to taking a harbor cruise out to Liberty Island and past Ellis Island. Our commentator was great and we enjoyed hearing facts about NYC. I personally liked being warm inside the boat. After our tour, we took the ferry to Brooklyn and ate pizza at Grimaldi’s. We stopped for a quick photo of the Empire State Building and headed back to Manhattan. The evening was filled with music at Gershwin Theatre where we saw Wicked. Amazing! Before calling it a night, we had endless salad at Olive Garden and did some late night shopping in Times Square.Read more

    NYC #2 Statue of Liberty

    October 2 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Apparently viewing The Statue Of Liberty is free, being a gift from the French and a symbol of freedom and the rest of it but they must have got the Toll Road guys in to work out how to squeeze the punter without going against the spirit of everything that Liberty symbolises.
How this works is the only way on to Liberty Island is by official ferries and they charge you a fare for this so the cost is supposedly just for the transport over and return.

But I noticed a disparity here so what I asked them was how come the lowest fare is just to get to the island. A higher fare is charged to enter the Pedestal and a much higher fare applies to enter the Crown, that’s for folks who go right up the top and stick their heads out of Liberties crown but this section is booked out until 2020.

So my rationale is, they are charging for the viewing, it’s plain and simple the more you want to view the more they charge.
I would have taken this a lot further but Rhonda said something about me and ruffling feathers and something about her being sick of it, I’m not sure I was too busy sending off a furious email to the American National Parks Association demanding to be reimbursed for our Pedestal admission.

I was on a good roll too being inspired by the statue herself with all that righteousness and the “for the people by the people”stuff.
The Statue of Liberty certainly does this flag waving and freedom for all stuff well starting with the sheer scale, I think it may still be the largest sculpture of that type in the world, if not it should be because it is one powerful piece of art and a more impressive thing is that they created and erected her in the 1880’s, and the size of some of the construction is on Egyptian Pyramid scale.
Like our Opera House the position out in the harbour, at the entrance to New York City adds to the power of the piece, anywhere else it could get lost amongst the skyscrapers of Manhattan but instead those buildings become a backdrop for Liberty.

The experience so far of NYC is, we suggest that any of you who never want to visit any cities in the world or are turned off by what they’ve heard about this place should make an exception, just once and try a trip to New York.

    New York

    July 3 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Wir haben eigentlich alles gesehen was man gesehen haben muss: Top of the Rock/ Rockefeller Center
    Empire State Building
    Fifth Avenue -> Shopping
    Broadway
    Times Square
    Ground Zero/ ehem. Zwillingstürmen
    World Trade Center
    Central Park
    Statue of Liberty 🗽

    Bagels and Boats

    October 21, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

We didn't want to make the same mistake we made in Singapore and sleep all day which completely screwed us up so we made lunch plans with Alex. We were utterly exhausted when we woke up but up we got anyway. As we were a bit early we decided to walk from 86th Street to 51st Street where we were meeting. Oh my god, it is bitterly cold here. I don't think we are prepared for this!! I am literally wearing every layer of clothing I have and I'm freezing.

We left with plenty of time and had a really lovely 10 minutes of walking before realising we had walked in completely the wrong direction and were now at 96th street. It's a good job the streets are numbered here. We then power walked in reverse all the way to 51st where we were meeting for good old American bagels at Essa Bagel and we went all out! We got a Rueben bagel (this is a heartattack bagel full of pastrami and cheese, a bit much in my opinion) and a bacon and avocado bagel (super yummy). It was sooo nice to see Alex and Adriana after 2 years. He was at uni with me, lived in London and moved to NY 2 years ago. They are engaged!! So it was even more of an occasion to see them 😊 After lunch we went to a local pub for one and then let them get on with the rest of their day.

Although I have been to NYC a couple of time now there are still a few things I've not done, including the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. We didn't realise it was free, so that was a great relief 🗽😌 It was pretty fun and we decided to stand outside so if I'm honest by the time we returned I was like a frozen snowman, so we had a hot chocolate in in the terminal while watching sunset before heading back home. For dinner we just ate cheerios and then went straight to bed.

    Freiheitsstatue

    October 6 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

    Liberty Island, New York

    April 12, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island (NYC)

    August 17, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

    Erster Halt Liberty Island. 🗽

    Vrijheidsbeeld

    May 16, 2015 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

    Lady Liberty

    September 12, 2016 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 19 °C
