• Melbourne

    5 апреля 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Once more in Melbourne. It is nice being back somewhere I know. I know the street names, I know where the shops are and I know where the trams go.

I cannot say I am enjoying the cooler weather but I do like Melbourne. It's very annoying. I dont like it when I like places, it makes leaving harder.

The city is just as I recall and I had fun walking through it again. That is really all I did today. Travel is a lot and I today I was very exhausted from the most interrupted sleep of my entire travel.

Two of the girls in my room checked out this morning and they were insanely loud. From everything to banging doors, to turning on a hair dryer. A hair dryer, in our tiny room at 6,30am. I have not woken up so angry in a very long time.

  • Flying

    4 апреля 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

I was expecting to be more stressed on this journey but I surprised myself by being very calm.

I woke up around 7am. Leaving me with 2 hours to finish packing, eat and prepare mentally for my journey.

Leaving at 9 was definitely earlier than necessary but as it took me 1.5hrs to get from freemantle to the airport I'm glad I did. The train was the easy part. Sit down for 30mins and ride the train from one end of the line to the other. The difficult part was getting from perth CBD to the airport.

They were doing rail works still meaning I had to get the rail replacement bus once more. Now I got lucky in that when I arrived at the stop the bus was already there and I hopped straight on. However, I soon learnt that I had not hopped on the 9,45 bus, I had got on the 9,30 bus. They were running so late I ended up on the earlier bus that still left after the one i meant to get.

As a result i arrived at the airport around 10,30 and it was far too early but I do not trust public transportation. And rightfully so.

I then got to speak to noone and checked my bag in myself. I had much anxiety over it as much boarding passes, yes I had two, and the baggage label had different notations. It later transpired that much bag got on the direct to Melbourne nearly 3hrs before I got on my flight. So very glad I checked in early as it was able to do that.

My first flight was an experience. I was having to switch in Adelaide as the direct was far out of my price range. The flight left late which made my 1hr switch over even shorter, just adding to my anxiety.

I also am a cheapscate and had to sit in the middle seat. Yay. Two older guys, one of which fidgeted the entire time.

My second flight ended up being delayed however so I needn't have stressed. I bought a muffin from the same cafe I have gone to all other times I have been in adelaide airport which is a depressingly large amount now.

Got on my second flight to Melbourne and was very happy to find myself seated again in the middle but without someone in the isle so I hastily switched and had a bit more space.

Arriving in Melbourne airport was like coming home. I after all know it better than Gatwick at this point. From landing to my hostel bed was no more than 2hrs so I was thrilled to sleep.

  • Quokkas

    3 апреля 2023 г., Австралия

I'm not gonna lie, the fact I did an 8k walk to see these guys but they were literally at the visitor centre, I had by passed at the start, was not cool.

Also, once you see them in full profile they get much less cute.

O/10 for hiding. 8/10 for friendly, they got a little to close for my liking and 10/10 for fluffy!

  • Rottnest Island

    3 апреля 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Rottnest island is stunning. With white sand, crystal clear waters and inland salt lakes of a pastel pink, it is idyllic.

I decided to do the 8k loop around the main part of the island and its lake. 3 hours and I saw almost noone. The island is beautiful and even though it is clearly built upon, the man made structures somehow do not take away from the beauty.

The sun was shinning the entire time and it made every sparkle with this intense shimmer that seemed to bring the island to life.

I may have gone to see the Quokkas but I fell in love with the island.

  • The wild west

    3 апреля 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

I also booked myself on a guided bus tour of the island. Was it a little unnecessary yes, but I enjoyed it.

The bus had a guide who talked to us about the history and wildlife on the island. But the bit I most wanted was he took us to the western most part of the island. From here, the first landmass you will hit is Madagascar over 3.5 thousand kilometres away. The wind had picked up quite a bit and it was so fresh.

This part of the coast is more rugged and parts of the cliffs are hewn out by the wind. The waves are bigger and everything feels just that little bit more powerful.

It also meant I got the see the entire island without having to do the massive walk there and back which would have taken me all day. The island is small but the paths are windy and the sun was very strong.

The boat back was a little hairy. The wind continued to pick up so we were rocking quite a bit at times but the 30mins finally ended and I was back on the mainland once more.

  • Freemantle

    2 апреля 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Freemantle is cute. I get Brighton vibes from it. Lots of lane ways, the beach is right there and artwork everywhere.

I wanted to go to the port to have a look but that was all so I let myself get distracted along the way.

Headed to the tourist centre to see of there was anything worth seeing while I was here. The answer, not really.

I wandered through the freemantle markets. They reminded me of a mix of the kemptown and borough markets. Indoors but so many different things. I bought some fresh plums which are stunning, and there was a German stall that had pretzels. Pretzels are the main reason I want to go back to germany, so that made me very happy.

Freemantle itself is a very small city wise so had fun just wandering around. The university was having an open day so some of the streets were blocked off or super busy.

The port is ugly, but the sailing port is prettier. They had a few lookouts over the coast but not much else.

I like freemantle but there really isnt much too it and it is definitely a more expensive area.

  • Here we go again

    1 апреля 2023 г., Австралия

Today was another bus day. Really not much to report.

I travelled from Albany to East Perth. The bus was exactly the same as the last 3 I have taken. 6hrs of uneven roads. I had an older woman sit next to me most of the way. Cant say I was thrilled as there were spare seats but I've realised the closer I am to the front on these buses the better. I am never sock, it's just nausea and I get that daily so anyway to reduce it I will take.

East perth to Freemantle was an experience. The trainline is being redone so it was bus replacement. Late and full but also free. Noone ever checks on a rail replacement bus and it was busy enough that I was not the only one doing it. That bus got me to Perth station which was a confusing and boiling walk to the station. I had to ask a guard twice because their ticketing system is too cheap, and no train was going to my destination. But finally I was on board and headed down.

My hostel is the YHA in the prison. I choose this one because it has such a unique location. Unfortunately, its location is hard to get too and I got rather lost. The hostel though nice is the illusive 3rd kind of hostel I dont quite like. Most hostels are party hostels or long term hostel, or a mixture of those two. This is neither and it is also very empty because it is so expensive. Overall it is ok, but the amount it costs a night for a 10bed room, is not worth it.

  • Final day

    31 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

Everyone left me today. I was sad but it meant I could do stuff and have an admin day without missing out in anything with one of the girlies.

Woke up and Mina left, then had another round of pancakes, cause they are free. But then Mia left too afterwards leaving me all alone with our crazy roommate who was nowhere to be seen.

So when I finally pulled myself out of the Tiktok rabbit hole,I did laundry. It wasnt yet time on my rotation but that day will be when I'm flying to Melbourne so I decided to do it early to avoid the stress. Once done I decided I really should pack up my monstrosity of a bag explosion. 1.5hrs later I was finally done. I cannot believe it took me so long but I did refold everything and rearrange some of the stuff I wont be wearing for the next week thanks to it getting colder.

By this point it was 2pm and I hadn't eaten so I stole some food from the hostels free shelf. Someone had left part of a garlic bread there, so I took that. Then found the baggy shorts I had bought and took them in. They have zipped pockets so even though they were 4inches too big, I was not letting them go.

Then booked some flights and accomodation and said goodbye to my money as it disappeared rather quickly.

I did decide to have an early night so I was refreshed for the journey tomorrow. But my crazy roommate reappeared and turned on all the lights just as I was about to sleep. She had been doing this all week and I am just so done with her. She also brought the cat with her. Now I love the cat, she is truly adorable. But being awoken by her was not fun. She is very playful and did not want to relax so I told my roommate to take her back. The crazy chick did in the loudest way possible and I could finally sleep.

  • Actual mountian climbing

    30 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

The girl I got to speaking with in the room last night is travling around the south west with a car. And after realising we are very similar and getting on well all evening, we decided to take a little road trip today.

We had our pancakes and headed around 30mins north of Albany to Castle Rock. Castle rock is an actual large hill, not quite as high as the south downs but the landscape is drastically different.

Out hike took us straight up for around 3k before an extra stretch up the side of the rock on pegs and a ladder. It whole was up I was struggling. After going straight up Mt Melville a few days ago, and the 10k round trip than was the beach yesterday, I was struggling. But I powered through because I am an idiot but I am not a quitter. And the view was well worth it.

We were above the tree line and could see straight to the mountains in land and the sea in the other direction. I could also see Melville and the difference in height was laughable.

The whole trip took a few hours and Mia and I both realised we are very similar in life story and reasons for travling. She will be on the east coast around the time I am not so hopefully we meet again.

Back at the hostel, I was done. Beyond done, I nearly fell asleep seated. So I had a cuppa tea, ate pasta twice because i couldn't be bothered to cook but was starving and watched suicide squad.

I also figured out my expenses and realised I had not updated my budget since getting paid for my Hobart job. The one annoying part of my trval spend app is it doesn't add my income to my overall budget. So I did that manually and realised I now have an extra couple thousand to play with so that's always nice.

We then all had an early night. Mina had to catch her bus to perth in the morning and Mia is setting off on her next stretch to Esperance. I'm not quite sure what I was do tomorrow once I am all alone again.

  • Beach Day

    29 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Mina and I decided to hit the beach today. It was supposed to get nice and warm and not too windy. Unfortunately the beach was a 1.5hr walk around the headland. Thankfully the second half of the walk was very pretty as the first half was all industrial port. Not so nice.

The water was incredibly clear and they had a net up to stop sharks entering that area so it was safe. There was a pontoon a little ways out and somehow Mina managed to convince me to swim to it. I definitely did more of a doggy paddle over and it probably took me a good 10mins to make it. I am not a strong swimmer and the waves were a lot stronger than I would have liked. But Mina is a qualified diver and life guard so that made me feel better. The pontoon was a relief to finally reach and a lot of fun to jump from.

I then took a nap on the beach and read a bit more of my book. The sun was rather strong though and I was beginning to feel its effects. I had also forgotten to bring food with me cause I am not smart. As a result to decided to cut my beach time short and headed back. The walk took far less time alone, I had my headphones in so was vibing the whole way.

Once back I dealt with my sunburn by taking a cold shower and ate the rest of last nights pizza. By this point it was around 4pm and I just wanted to relax but a new person arrived in the room and I decided to be social. Something I was very glad for.

  • Mountain climbing

    28 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

I honestly love Australia they have such messed up proportions for things. Today, me and Bec, a girl from my room, climbed the mountain on the edge of albany. The mountain was a 500m to the top. From sea level. If anything it was a little disappointing I was expecting more. But as everything is so low the view was insane.

We had lunch up on the 'mountain' before making our way back down and relaxing for the evening. Mina and I had been switching all the mattresses because they were super uncomfortable and made a bit of a mess so had to fix that.

We had planned to go out for pizza for dinner. I cant really afford it but the place looked great and I'll happily spend money on food if others are with me. But then we realised on of the other places did a 2for1 on takeaway pizza, so we changed our plan. Had a nice evening chatting and eating the pizza. Bec is from Melbourne and we've made a plan to meet again next week when I'm there.

  • Sunrise

    28 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Once again I found myself being unable to sleep last night so at 6,30 am I decided I had enough. I got up, changed and put on my 'hot girl' playlist. Dont judge the name it was created by someone else.

It is designed for a thredmil but obviously I dont have access to one of those. So instead, I put my headphones in, ignored the world and walked to the beat. It is a full of songs I like and played in order each song the tempo goes up. You start at a fast walk and end running. It was a surprisingly large amount of fun.

And of course, it was just after sunrise, so that was my view of the harbour as I went. The sky was an insanely pretty pink and light grey. Half way though it began to rain and the sky became a mix of bright orange and dark blue.

The rain was annoying but quite refreshing as little mist, so I didn't mind too much. Came back and journaled while I waited for breakfast to open. No point paying for food when it's free!

  • Albany

    27 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

I literally had the weirdest sleep last night. I was continually and consistently waking up every hour. Every hour. And it wasnt because the hostel is loud or uncomfortable, I just wasnt tired. So new feeling for me, I am properly rested. Wild.

So I woke up around 7,30 for the billionth time and just decided to get up. Did a bit of journaling and then headed to the kitchen for the free breakfast. I love a hostel with free breakfast. And it gets better, it was pancakes. I havent had pancakes in so long and they were amazing.

Afterward I headed to the tourist centre. I dont know if other travelers do this but I've found it's best to go to one and then the locals can tell you what's worth it and where to go. Unfortunately I thought they opened at 9,30 but it was actually 10am. So I wandered around a bit, looked at the town hall and aboriginal monument.

When they finally opened one of the women in my room had the same plan as me so we decided to spend the morning together. We convinced another roommate to come with us and the three of us wandered around Albany's Historical District. It had everything from old buildings to museums and boats, the oldest cottage in WA and pictures of buildings a 100 years ago. We managed to find a photo of our hostel when it was a Hotel and bar. All of this was in a little 1k loop making for a very nice self guided tour of the city.

Once done we headed back to the hostel. I needed some food so I went to Woolies and one of the others is doing the Billibum trail so had to record herself on that. On the way we saw a motorcycle that I loved.

Then spent the afternoon on my ipad, watched some TV and hid from the rain. It is definitely autumn down here. Warm enough but overcast and the leaves are turning. A different kind of beauty.

  • The trek to Albany

    26 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Ok so, having the surname Wilkinson is a blessing and a curse. For years I have been at the end of the register, last picked and all that. But today I realised an excellent use of this position.

When we get on the bus, they tick our names off. There is no proff of ticket or whatever, just need the surname. As I am always at the end, one quick glance is all it takes for me to roughly estimate how many people are going to be on the bus. With this number I can figure out how likely it is I will have a seat to myself. Today there was around 10 names, with the bus seating up to 40 at full capacity, anything less than 20 and we should have free seats.

Now I know this isnt all that useful or amazing, but when you are facing a 3hr bus journey, you want to have a seat free beside you. The difference is immense.

Finally managed to get on bus two. I had to switch at Bunbury to get me to Albany. But my ticket was split in two. I had the journey to Denmark, then from Denmark to Albany. The bus driver, bless his heart could not understand what I was explaining. He wouldn't let me on so made me run to the ticket office and get a print out. It was really strange but finally he let me on.

Met a nice woman at one of our rest stops. She was getting the bus down to visit here daughter and we had a nice chat. Mixed up the monotony of sitting on a bus.

This journey down is very different to the journey I took to Geraldton. Going north of Perth it was all red desert and tiny bushes. Down here it is all massive trees and lush grassland. The weather as well is different. Geraldton was all bright skies and searing heat. Down here it is autumn. Around 20°, over cast with a strong breeze. More the weather I would expect from England in October which is about right for this area and time of year. And as I wrote this, it is beginning to drizzle on me!

After so many hours on a bus, I finally arrived in Albany. The hostel is cute and it is warmer than I had expected it too be.

  • 6 months

    25 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌙 25 °C

Today marks the day that I left home. Tomorrow marks the day I left England.

I'm gonna be honest it's been one hell of a ride. Part of me is like how has it only been 6months and the other part thinks it's insane that I've still got 8 more to go. I cannot quite comprehend it really.

I did not do much again today. I just went to my favourite spot I found and read and wrote in the sun. It was a very lazy day and I proabbly should have done more for my final day in Perth but I am happy enough.

It's nice to not be forcing myself to do something absolutely every day. I love travelling but constantly meeting new people, experiencing new places and being on the go is exhausting. I think I am going to try and adopt more slow travel into my plans. Less moving every couple days and choose instead to spend longer. That way I can do nothing for a few days but still get to do all I want too.

I move on to Albany tomorrow when I have 6 days to explore and relax. It is going to be a little colder there than Geraldton was but that's ok.

I'm still a bit in shock it's been 6 months.

  • Street art

    24 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Decided to do another of Perths free tours today. This one was on the street art around Perths CBD.

The tour was cool to learn about all the artists in the city and the origins of the art. The city has some very nice artwork.

Once the tour was over I joined two girls from the tour for lunch. I did have lunch already and I do that so I dont buy food for lunch. But I wanted to hang out with some people as my hostel isnt very social. We went for vietnamese food and it was so good. I had a pork bun and a duck wrap, not my usual choices but there was no veggie food.

I then headed back to the art gallery. The galleries hadn't changed and were exactly as I remembered. I found the pieces I liked before still good and the ones I didnt get, I still did not get.

I then headed to the library. There was no old section like Adelaide library which was sad. But I took a seat at one of the study sections. The wifi there was a lot better than at my hostel so I enjoyed that. I also grabbed my notebook out and did a bit of random writing. Some story ideas and random musings. I haven't done much of that lately so it was nice.

I then just went back to my hostel and didnt do much. I had no intention to do much so I liked that. Im enjoying not doing anything.

My new hostel was only two doors down and not great overall. The bathroom definitely leaves something to be desired. The wifi does not work in our room so that isnt great either.

I went to woolies to buy some food and that was it. I had no desire to do anything else today so I did not.

  • Bus trip

    22 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

Made my way back down to Perth today.

I decided to wake up around 6,30am so I could collect my stuff and make sure I was properly awake before getting on the bus.

The bus was as easy as it was on the way up. I downloaded more podcasts, they played sherlock on the tv and I had a nap. I wasnt thrilled to be on the bus again but was pleased to be leaving Geraldton.

I had fun with the girls i met in my room and the beach is stunning but I would have been so bored if I stayed much longer.

Check in was easy and the room is fine. I have heard some very had reviews about Hive and to be fair, it was fine. Were the bathrooms a bit grim yeah. But the room was really pretty. Though the bed unnerved me. I was on the top bunch with no railings on either side and the bed was just in the middle of the room. Like not the absolute middle but no part of the bed was attached to a wall. It was so unnerving.

  • Relaxing

    21 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Well I titled this relaxing but I'm not sure that's exactly right. We decided to make the interesting and frankly rather pointless decision to wake up at 5,30am to try and see the sunrise.

Despite our best efforts the sun was blocked by clouds and we did not get to our destination until long after the sunrise. That being said, the walk was ok and the lighthouse was ok. I was expecting more particularly after out 45minute walk to get there.

I found it hilarious watching one of the girls. She posts a lot and I love her attitude towards it all. We did however end up sitting on one of the ugliest beaches ever. As a result our only option was to take a very limited photo that could be edited to improve the colour. The beach itself was grey and covered in dead bracken and seaweed. Geraldton is not a very picturesque place at times.

On our way back we stopped for coffee as we had been awake for 3hrs and none of us had eaten or really slept. Once back I did laundry. Headed to the laundrette to put all of our stuff on to wash. I began my new book from the day before while I waited. If you ignore the loud and rude aboriginals behind me, it was quite asthetic.

I then watched some tv and relaxed in the shade outside my hostel. I spent quite I while here a si was beginning to feel very tired thanks to the heat and lack of sleep.

In the evening we hit happy hour. $10 cocktails, I got a lychee and basil, very nice. But one was enough. I finished packing and cooked dinner before heading to bed.

  • Churches

    20 марта 2023 г., Австралия

After lunch I headed to the cathedral. Despite its beautiful exterior I was not a massive fan of its interior. The person who designed it was also the priest at the time
Hawes was a trained architect and designed the entire building. I did a tour and was a little disappointed that the focus was on the religious history rather than the architectural history.

That being said the tour was also a little hard to follow. Our guide kept talking as thoigh the building was ancient but it was not. Construction began in 19,13. Built in 3 parts before finally being completed the interior has also been changed twice since then. First with vatican 2 then with a massive restoration that happened recently. As a result very little of the interior is original or in its original position. This made for a rather strange narrative that confused me greatly.

After I head back to the beach to meet the girls from my room and after a little sunbathing we headed to a bar. We all bought this toblerone cocktail which was frankly disappointing. The girls had raved about it and said how nice it was. Personally I found it far too sweet and there was a strange taste I couldn't quite identify. Overall I didnt like it. But they made for cute photo and I enjoyed spending time with the girls.

  • Museums

    20 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Ok so Geraldton does not have much to do. But I managed to find a few things of interest.

I began my day with a dip in the sea, cause why not. Bit of a swim and reminding myself this is somehow my reality and I'm not dreaming.

Then headed out to the museum. I may have accidentally walked into a thrift store and left with two books. But I had a very good reason, the books needed saving from this boring little town. One is on serial killer couples which is awesome. and the other is a LGBTQ+ book and there is no way anyone in this little racist town was ever going to by it. So I performed a powerful daring rescue and left with new reading material in tow.

Also on the way was the arts and crafts centre. It is situated in the old goal making it both a point of interest historically and arty. However for some reason the front door was looked for 'security reasons' and told me to go to the other door. The other door had a sign that read 'locked on mondays'. So I'm not sure how I was supposed to get in. Very strange but it didnt look great from the window so no big.

Finally arrived at the museum. For a place so small it has a rather large museum. There was the standard section for the aboriginal heritage of the coral coast. Lots about the old lore and how the british 'discovered' amazing things thanks to the aboriginal guides showing them. There was another section on a tv show, I think it was at least. It is set in a modern setting but the characters are all superheroes and it's based on aboriginal stories. At least that's what I thought it was. I'm honestly not sure as there was little to no text on the walls explaining it and most was in the aboriginal language. So I got throughly confused.

The final two sections were the ones I went to the museum for. The VOC, a trading company based in the Netherlands in the 15-17th century used to use the west coast of Australia to get up to Batavia (now Jakarta in Indonesia) where they did trading with Asia for Europe. However the west coast had notoriously large amounts of tiny island, reefs and random shallow waters. As a result a large number of boats run aground here during their voyages. The museum is responsible for the protection of these ship wrecks and the artifacts within them.

Most simply crashed due to not knowing where they were thanks to dreadful maps they had. However a few of note had sections in the museum. One run a ground after its captain decided they would chart a new route and hit land instead. Another managed to survive the reefs and outlying islands and hit instead straight into the mainland cliff. This one is interesting as accessing the wreckage is still extremely difficult today, and evidence was found at the top of the cliff, of survivors. If this is true, then neither the British nor the Holland sailors who first arrived here are actually the first settlers. However there is little evidence beyond the cliff so that is impossible to confirm.

And finally another ship called the Batavia, name after the companies headquarters in Asia ran a ground. The survivors not only split into factions on the islands they were now stranded on. One faction beginning a brutal annihilation of any who opposed included the women and children sailing for pleasure aboard. The captain and other higher ranking officers had taken the remaining lifeboat and managed to sail all the way up to Batavia and somehow survived. The final group created an alliance with those running from the first group and managed to build themselves a boat out of the wreckage. They luckily did not have to test its ability as the captain returned soon after.

What is also interesting is the boat held a large number of stone slabs. These slabs were intended for Batavia and when placed together created a massive arch way that would have signalled the opening to the city. Needless to say, this boat being lost had a lot of significance to both the people aboard and the company that owned it.

Once thoroughly impressed and freaked out by this museum I left for lunch. Did a bit of stuff on my ipad and finished my world packers profile. Fingers crossed something comes of that but we shall see.

Relaxing at its finest. Wandering around Geraldton is a very easy task as it is rather small and there is not much to see. I bought some food for the next few days and realxed in the shaded area outside the hostel.

In the evening there was a little concert by the beach. There were little food trucks and a massive stage. The band playing was surprisingly good for a tiny town.

The sun set as they were playing which was very asthetic. I went down with the two girls from my room, we had crepes from one of the stalls and enjoyed the sun. It was a really nice evening and not at all what I was expecting.

  • Travel day

    18 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

Nothing like a 6am start. Plus loving the anxiety that made me leave with 1.5hrs before the bus left to do a 20min journey. Love my life!

The bus was easy and surprisingly nice. They have a complimentary streaming service which had a really impressive range of media. The audio books intrigued me. But there were also movies, books, meditation and yoga guides. I was impressed. An easy 6hr journey.

I arrived into Geraldton with an hour before check in so I found a spot in the shade and relaxed. Watched some tv and journaled while I waited.

The hostel is really cute. Clean and boutiquey with simple facilities and practically on the beach. There are a load of plants and it's just a nice hostel. Not something I have said very often.

  • Going for a wander

    17 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

After visiting the gardens I decided to walk around for a bit.

I visited the house of parliament, a very nice building. A little memorial near the gardens that had quotes written into the stone. I thought that was cute. Another pergola, a lot of them are dotted about and I love the style of their designs. I feels very oriental and I like them.

I took another of the free bus journeys. This one is new and goes right out of the city. It led to the university which runs alongside Matilda Bay which is a nice little port with a tiny beach. I ended up spending a couple hours there just relaxing in the sun and watching the animals. It is a hotspot of dog walkers and birds so there was a lot going on.

Once back in the city I decided to visit the old court house museum. It is the oldest building in WA still standing and had a large amount of stories from when it was built. Lots of stories of aboriginals who were unfairly punished by laws they didnt believe in. But there were also stories of people advocating for correct treatment and aboriginal rights which is good to read about. Not all the british settlers were bad.

  • Botanical Garden #2

    17 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Yes I went back to the botanical gardens, what else do you expect from me?

The sun made all the plants glow beautifully and I did the free tour. The tour was ok, the guide was very nice but I just wasnt all that interested.

The sun kept shining throughout which made for a much nicer visit than yesterday.

  • Botanical Gardens

    16 марта 2023 г., Австралия ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Despite the rain I made the interesting choice to go to the botanical gardens. It made for literally no tourists so I liked that and the rain was just a funny situation.

The views were very obscured when I first arrived due to the weather. But I decided to stop under a pergola thing and by the time I had eaten my lunch the weather had cleared.

As it was autumn there were not many flowers out but the landscape sculpting was still nice.

The war memorial is also by the gardens so I visited that afterwards. It is a memorial to all the soldiers lost in multiple wars. Sadly the building all the names are listed in is massive and also full.
