    Its The Final Countdown...

    October 6, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

    Arzua to Lavacolla
    Day 35 - 28km

    It's the final countdown... eeeeeepppp!!!!!
We can hardly believe that we are here, with just 10km to go tomorrow... absolutely surreal to imagine we have come this far. 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️
Amazing walk today, started in the pitch black with the help of our headlamps... really beautiful through forest tracks, and because we left nice and early, we had a great headstart on the crowds. We walked with our new lovely friend Rikke, from Denmark, and have really connected with her, we are looking forward to sharing the excitement and euphoria of walking into Santiago tomorrow morning 💜
Trevor has just caught up with us tonight, he offered us a ride but we have said yeah.../ nah... not a chance mate, we are going all the way under our own steam...😁😁😍😍

    Every Step We Take …

    October 5, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

    Pallas de Rei to Arzua
    Day 34 -29km

Well not too many more steps to take before we finish on Saturday. We only have 38km to go 🥳

We had an earlier start this morning (7.15am), trying to beat the crowds, so it was it dark for the first hour. Then, as the sun came up, a misty fog rolled in which was very pleasant. We spent the day walking through beautiful forest tracks again, passed small villages and farmland. We encountered a lot of Horreos again, a place the local stores grain, all the same shape but in different stages of repair. It was a long day as we had 29km to our next stop, we had a couple of nice coffee stops, and a spinach hamburger on the way 😋and we arrived around 3.30 , so we were happy with that. Not much exciting to say about this town unfortunately, it seems very old and dingy, but we have met a lovely pilgrim friend tonight from Denmark so looking forward to meeting her shortly for a meal and a lovely evening with her. 🤗Read more

Keeping our eyes on the prize...👀

    October 4, 2023 in Spain ⋅ 🌫 12 °C

    Portomarin to Palas De Rei
    Day 33 - 26km

Well we were carried along by the throngs of people leaving Portomarin this morning...such a different Camino now!, so busy, but along with the crowds comes a high energy level too, and actually seems to make the time go by quicker as there is so much going on.
An easy walk today, started very misty and foggy but the skies eventually turned blue and into a glorious day. 🌞
We had the best meal of the trail so far tonight...scallops and veal fillet steak, a real treat from the pilgrims meals we are used to. 😋 We have decided to do two 28km days and a final 10km day to get us into Santiago at a reasonable time. 😉. Three days and counting...😁😆🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️

    Great Big Melting Pot …

    October 3, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

    Sarria to Portomarin
    Day 32- 24km

Well it really has been a day of mixed races and we have met people from all over the world. We left Sarria this morning around 8am which was still pretty dark. As expected it was extremely busy which was great and made our day go really fast. Other then the people, we enjoyed the day walking through beautiful forest tracks, passed farmland and again the scenery was amazing. Also we passed the 100km to go mark today which was a good reason to celebrate with a Sangria 🎉 🍷.Read more

    October 2, 2023 in Spain ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

    Triacastela to Sarria
    Day 31 -24 km

Can't stop us now!! Cause we're having a good time!!
Great day walking today, went by really quickly. Started with quite a bit of uphill, then flattened out and was a nice stroll through a lovely forest track, through beautiful farmland and an easy walk into Sarria. From here we are expecting large crowds as Sarria is a very popular place to start the Camino, you are only required to walk the last 100kms of the Camino to aquire your Compostela, which is a certificate to prove you have completed the Camino. The other options allowed are; to ride on horseback the last 100km, to bike the last 200km, or sail 100 nautical miles to the nearest port...then complete the last 10km on foot!! I'm pretty sure we will qualify with our measley 780kms. 😁😇🤣🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️Read more

I’m Going Down Down Down ..

    October 1, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

    Laguna de Castilla to Triacastela
    Day 30 - 24km

After our very long day yesterday todays walk was perfect. We managed to scramble up the mountain in time to catch the sunrise this morning around 8.15, which was spectacular. After ambling through the quaint village of O’Cebreiro we climbed a further 3 kms before it tapered off. The views from here were breathtaking, with mainly farmland and as we walked we were serenaded by the bells around the cows necks. It was an easy descent into Triacastela and we arrived in good time to enjoy a beer and lunch. 🍻Looking forward to a couple of wines tonight and a shorter walk into Sarria tomorrow.🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️Read more

    Whoops, we did it again...

    September 30, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Villafranca del Bierzo to Laguna de Castella
    Day 29 - 28kms

Whoops, we did it again...we neglected to do our research and basically repeated our original mistake of following other pilgrims on an " alternative route" . BIG mistake... really Big mistake.😑 We immediately started to climb up an almost vertical cliff face...which just basically kept going up and up, until we were eventually, after a couple of hours , up in the clouds, looking down, in the far-away distance, enviously, to where we would have walked on the flat, if we hadn't detoured.😔
Of course the views were amazing... ( blah blah blah...)
That would have been fine, and lesson learned had we not had a MAJOR hill climb for the last part of our day...actually THE STEEPEST of the Francis route 🙄 We arrived with barely the ability to make it up the last drag, the searing heat just adding to our exhaustion...Very early tea, couldn't even face finishing our wine, 🙀 and into bed...😴
Legs are gonna feel it tomorrow 😩

I See a Bad Moon Rising

    September 29, 2023 in Spain ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

    Molinaseca to Villafranca del Bierzo
    Day 28 - 31 km

We started early this morning as we had a very big day ahead. As we walked out of our Albergue we were treated to an amazing full moon. We decided to go the country track and we’re very pleased we did. The colours in the fields were beautiful and we spent half our time trying to photograph them. After a couple of coffee stops with fellow pilgrims we needed to push on. 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️
It quickly warmed up and we found it a little tough at the end as we were walking a lot beside the road. However we did manage to meet up with a couple of guys on motorcycles ( Trevor and his brother Ted) so had a lovely night with them. 💕

    Take my breath away...

    September 28, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

    Foncebaden to Molinaseca
    Day 27 - 19 kms

Well, the downhill decent into Molinaseca certainly took our breath away!! It was so spectacular with its views of the mountains, but very hard going on an incredibly steep decline, loose rock and large trip hazards... lots of concentration required! Hats off, and major respect for the elderly and more challenged pilgrims who have made this journey before us 👏 you are freaking awesome. 🤩
Another glorious sunrise 🌅, coffee stop in the most beautiful spot... mountain views to die for... and then the down... very steep!!
Such a gorgeous town we are staying in, we had a lovely meal tonight overlooking the riverside, very chilled now and ready for a big 31 kms tomorrow. We're going great 🥰🥰
