Horseshoe Falls and Tall Trees Walk

After making up all the stairs, it's supposed to be around 200 stairs, i think, it was a short flat walk to the Horseshoe Falls. Really nice this one's too, but I guess it's more impressive with more water running down.
I have noticed, that it's quite dry everywhere. The grass is brown, you barely see some green grass around.
From Horseshoe Falls ist a nice walk to the Tall Trees Walk. Also a really nice walk a little bit up and down, but not to bad. The trees are really amazing and it's hard to see the real size on the pictures.
Unfortunately I saw no wildlife, just some birds. But no wallabies, Wombat, Echnidas or so. But maybe that's because I was so tired and it was hard to focus on the path on the way back. I might have missed them.
Luckily it was just a short drive to my accommodation for to night, like 10 minutes or so. There I arrived around 6:30pm.
I have booked Scouts Hall, really nice small apartment with all you need, except a place to cook. I had a shower and then I was "cooking" some rice in the microwave. That's actually worked out pretty good. Was eatable.
And then I watched some TV and went to bed around 9:30pm.Read more

Mount Field National Park

Flew over from Melbourne to Hobart, Tasmania, just an hour's flight. Collected camper and stocked up on food & drinks. A man at the tourist office in Hobart printed out a suggested tour of the island for us and we spent the first night in Mount Field National Park. We were too late for a powered site, but it was fine running off battery. We walked to Russell Falls and climbed the 200 steps to Horseshoe Falls. Woke next morning to find the camper flooded because we'd left the roof light open and it rained quite heavily during the night.Read more

T15 - Tasmanien

▪️Lynn hat für uns Rührei mit Paprika und Tomaten zum Frühstück gemacht - lecker schmecker :P
▪️Danach haben wir mit den Jungs ne Runde Karten gespielt - "Arschloch" das kennt und spielt hier irgendwie jeder ^^
▪️Indra und ich hatten das Kartenspiel mit den Jungs von der Great Ocean Road auch schon gespielt :D
▪️Anschließend sind wir alle gemeinsam zum Mount Field National Park aufgebrochen
▪️Dort sind wir den einstündigen "Tall Trees Track" gelaufen
▪️Durch den Regenwald mit riesigen Bäumen, vorbei an 2 Wasserfällen: "Horseshoe Falls" und "Russel Falls"
▪️Als wir gegen Abend auf unserem Campingplatz ankamen, hat es heftig gewittert, geblitzt und geregnet
▪️Nach ca. 30min war alles wieder vorbei, dann konnten wir unser Vorzelt aufbauen und Essen kochen
▪️Haben mit den Jungs ein letztes Mal zusammen gesessen und Karten gespielt - dann trennten sich unsere Routen
▪️Julia und der Saarländer Chris haben wieder die halbe Nacht alleine "gequatscht" :P

💡Der "sun-dried tomato" und "cheese & chive" Dip von Coles sind die Besten.Read more

Mt Field National Park

Off through the Derwent Valley to Mt Field National Park. Today was 'Bucket List' day for Jen. Jonnell was perplexed why we were going such a long way just to see a plant! Well ... it wasn't just any old plant, it was Nothofagus gunnii - a deciduous beech found only in Alpine areas in Tasmania. Having local knowledge on our side (Sue) - we found it in its glory at Lake Fenton. It was just starting to change colour.
We also walked around Lake Dobson through the ferns and pandani forest and also to Russell Falls.Read more

Les Fagus de Mont Field

Pour le premier road trip de Claire et Camille, nos hôtes ont décidé de nous emmener au parc national de Mont Field. Là-bas, on trouve les fagus. Ce sont les seuls arbres natifs et endémiques à la Tasmanie qui évoluent en fonction des saisons. L’automne étant là depuis un petit mois, c’est le moment pour admirer les différentes teintes d’oranges dans le paysage montagneux de Mont Field.
Paysage d’automne mais températures hivernales avec moins de 5º pendant la pause déjeuné.
Il y a aussi une station de ski là-haut !Read more

Meadowbank Vineyard

The best vineyard I've been to, and I think this was my 5th.
Beautiful vineyard, wonderful wines, nice staff, and the food was amazing!

Meadowbank Winery
The guy who started it was a first and pioneer of growing grapes and making wine in Tasmania as he was told it was too cold here to grow grapes. They have 240 hectoacres of vineyard from Mount Field (where I saw the falls) to the Danbar River. They specialize in sparkling wine, riesling, and pinot noir.Read more

St. Claire's NP & Franklin-Gordon River

Wir fahren weiter Richtung Süden und erkunden die Gegend um den Lake St. Claire und den Franklin River Nature Trail.

Der St. Claire Lake gehört zum Cradle Mountain Nationalpark und ist ca. 100km entfernt vom eigentlichen Cradle Mountain.
Am See gibt es diverse Wege um spazieren zu gehen. Wir nehmen den recht kurzen Aboriginal Walk an dessen Wegesrand aber in regelmäßigen Abständen Informationen zu den Aboriginals aus der Region aufgebaut sind. Die Tafel erzählen von der Unterdrückung und den teils unmenschlichen Verträge, zu denen die Ureinwohner gezwungen wurden, um ihr Land abzugeben. Eine Tafel hat sich auch mit Buschfeuern beschäftigt, die die Aboriginals in regelmäßigen Abständen selbst gelegt haben, um die Büsche nicht zu groß werden zu lassen und sich durch kontrollierte Brände selbst zu schützen.
Zurück geht es am Ufer des Sees, der sehr ruhig und natürlich ist.

Danach wirkt der Franklin River Nature Trail wie ein Power Nap. Mit nur knapp 1 km Länge verspürt man maximale Erholung. Der Weg führt durch einen unberührten moosigen Regenwald bis zu einem (im Somer) leise plätschernden Fluss, dessen Anblick zum Verweilen und Durchatmen einläd.Read more

Tarraleah Falls

I woke up around 8 o'clock this morning. Have to admit that I have been awake quite a few times at night. There are many big trucks passing all the time and they are really loud. So I woke up many times. But still i got to sleep a little bit and I am feeling fresher than yesterday. I had a nice breakfast, packt up my stuff, tried to organize my car, but gave up quickly and left Scout Hall shortly before 10 am. First Stop, the berry farm at the end of the road to buy some lovely raspberry. Oh they are soooo good! 😋
After that I went to Tarraleah Falls. It took me a little bit more than 1 hour to get there.
It's so sad to see so many dead wallabies beside the road. 😥
My first real wildlife encounter was.... A snake! I wondered what was laying on the road in front of me, as I get close i was like: Oh that's a snake. Luckily it was no other cars around as so I could drive around the snake. Later i learned that it was a black snake and the black snake is really comment here in Tasmania.
The short walk to the Tarraleah Falls was very nice and easy in the beginning but became mor challenging after a while as it was going steep down the hill and I had to climber over and cross under some fallen trees. But it's anyway a really nice walk through a beautiful bush and the waterfall was really nice too.
There is hydro station and the view from the viewing platform over the valley was really nice! From here I kept driving towards Lake Staint Clair.Read more

The weather is pretty good, around 16 degrees and sunny every now and then. Partly als cloudy but it's not taking long until the sun ist back out. I like it! Could and especially should be worst.

Tassie Roadtrip Day 1

Beim großen Hinundherüberlegen was ich nun als nächstes mit meinem verdienten Geld und der freien Zeit anfangen soll, war mein erster Gedanke mich bald wieder mit meiner Freundin Lisa zu vereinen, welche nach Melbourne geflogen ist und ebenfalls keinen Plan hatte, wie es weitergehen soll. Nachdem wir mit vielen Ideen aufkamen, welche alle irgendwelche Haken hatten, stand erst einmal fest: Lisa kommt nach Tasmanien am Dienstag und dann schauen wir weiter. Ich blieb weiterhin in Facebookgruppen für Backpacker unterwegs, bis ich am Sonntag einen Beitrag von zwei Jungs entdeckte, die nach zwei Mitreisenden für ihren 10-tägigen Roadtrip durch Tasmanien suchten. Ganz spontan schrieb ich die Jungs an, traf mich noch am selben Tag mit einem in meinem Hostel und wir fingen an die Reise zu planen. Am Montag hieß es dann Campingzeug kaufen gehen und Essensvorräte zu kaufen, denn schon am Dienstag ging es los. Unsere Truppe besteht nun also aus einem Jungen aus Israel (Gili, 21), einem aus Japan (Nos, 23), Lisa und mir.

Am Dienstagmorgen um 8 stiegen wir in unseren Mietwagen und machten uns zu dritt auf zum Flughafen um Lisa abzuholen. Danach ging die Fahrt auch schon los in Richtung Westen. Wir hatten an diesem Tag zwei kleine Wanderungen unternommen und konnten dabei schon viel tolle Natur sehen. Am Abend ging es dann zu einem kostenlosen Campingplatz an einem See, wo wir unser Zeltlager aufstellten. Mit schönem Sonnenuntergang und Lagerfeuer konnten wir unseren ersten Tag gut abschließen. Die Nacht hingegen wurde extrem kalt (unter 10°C) und mit unserem billig gekauften Zelt und Schlafsäcken eine kleine Herausforderung.
