    Submerged in The Kimberleys

    June 13, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Howdy all, has been some time since our last footprint but all that time has been spent here in The Kimberleys. This region is simply awesome, nothing like it from the west to the east the landscape leaves you gob smacked.

So Questro Station & Emma Gorge down through Fitzroy Crossing & Geike Gorge & Tunnel Creek onto Derby. Couple of great roadside rest areas along the way which had more vans in them than caravan parks. Just when you thought it couldn't get any busier, it has , even allowing for Victorians in lockdown.

I won't mention the weather, only to say it hasn't changed one bit in 6 weeks.

Yesterday we had one of those unforgettable experiences flying by seaplane up to the far reaches of The Kimberley to see & ride the Horizontal Falls. What a day! Magnificent!

Went to the local 'mud crab ' races here in Derby late yesterday afternoon at the Mary Island Fishing Club. What a hoot! Funniest thing. Left before it got too rowdy.

Any way, we are travelling very well & Maisy is too. Heading off to Broome tomorrow to join the other 10's of thousands down there Time for car & van to get a good wash, service etc. Kimmy off to the hairdressers as well.

    Winter in Nth WA

    June 2, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

Can't complain about the weather here in Kununurra, 33 plus degrees day in day out. The park pool has been in use.
We travelled out to Wydham on Monday, approx 1 hr from here. The view from the lookout over 5 rivers was spectacular as was the crocodile pie for morning tea.
Yesterday was an admin & rest day spent in the shade on the banks of Kununurra dam, spotting the odd freebie croc. The sunsets have been awesome.
Today was puppy free day with Maisy off the day care. Early morning climb up to Kelly's Knob lookout then onto a Sandalwood farm before visiting a couple of springs on the way home.
Leave tomorrow for a few days in the wilderness, Emma's Gorge high on the agenda & hopefully a few days stay at ElQuestro Station.

    Way Up North!

    May 30, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Have finally made it across the top to WA arriving firstly at Lake Argyle just over the border for 3 memorable days cruising, swimming, eating & singing at the resort caravan park. Amazing scenery, fantastic story of the dam's development, great day cruise & marvelous weather to top it off.
The trip over from Katherine, NT took us 2 short days with a delightful stopover @ Timber Creek before we crossed into WA. The trip was far from boring driving through beautiful national parks most of the way.

Have arrived in Kununurra this morning, planning on a 4 night stay with plenty to see & do. Good to have phone & internet coverage from Optus once again

    Hell of a week!

    May 25, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Having fun with the internet st the moment. Not sure what posts are going through.
After 9 fantastic days witb John & Vicki Warden doing Katherine & The Gorge then onto Litchfield NP which was simply stinning. Did not disappoint in any way. Stayed just out of the park but apart from the mozzies everything was tops. Waterfalls, walks, swimming plenty to do.
Also learnt alot about the bombing of Darwin in 1942 & the war effort in the north.
We went our separate ways yesterday with John & Vicki going on to Darwin, Kim & I turning south today back to Katherine to prepare for the trip west to WA. Nice warm, 33 to 35 degrees & humid.
The NT is simply stunning & so much more to see. Another trip is needed.

Time for a tub or 2!

    May 17, 2021 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

Howdy all, sorry for the delay in our latest news. We had 4 nights in Alice & moved caravan parks to a location approx 12 klns from town. How nice was that, the serenity, peace of mind meant so much. Alice is quite a buzzling place during the day, difficult to get a park, supermarkets busy but the town is missing the international tourist trade hugely. Plenty of businesses closed up & covid didn't help either. Time for the van, car, puppy & us to have a tub & wash off the dust.
We travelled north until we reached Devils Marbles but the van park was full so we free camped out the front with 9 other vans & campers. The food at the pub was good.
Next day we saw the rocks that form the marbles before a big day travel to reach Daly Waters on Friday to catch up with Uncle John & Aunty Vicki Warden. The one night at Daly Waters didn't disappoint. That place goes off. Probably over 500 meals served thst night live music plus the van & camping grounds were overflowing. Wow!
Saturday we had just a short drive up to Mataranka, staying at Bitter ( Victoria) Springs with the Wardens still happy to stick with us.
We have had 3 very relaxing days here enjoying the local markets on Sunday, swimming in thermal pools & springs & just having. a great time.
Off tomorrow to Katherine & to see more of this amazing territory.

    A TOWN CALLED ALICE!

    May 10, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

This place is both romantic & confronting at the same time. The entrance & scenery surrounding the city are gorgeous but driving around has you on tender hooks all the time. The sight if 2-3 metre fences & gates around homes, shops with roller shutters & police on patrol at bottle shops didn't leave a good impression.
What did was our day out in The MacDonald Ranges today was superb . Simply stunning. Alot more to see tomorrow.

I did mention the 'camel burger well here it was. Great burger!.
The walk around the rim of Kings Canyon was a amazing. Challenging but got through ok. Top experience!

    Exploring by foot & air!

    May 5, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

The experience here at Uluru & Kate Tjuta ( The Olgas) has been full on & beyond expectations. We have been so lucky with the weather, clear skies, warm days & mild nights.
Sunsets & Sunrises have been incredible & the helicopter ride over both on sunset yesterday was the ants pants, speechless.
Maisy has been the best puppy , now a shade of pinky brown after playing in the red sand. We leave tomorrow for Kings Canyon, looking forward to that.

    Hooroo from Uluru!

    May 3, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Yes, we are at the big red rock arriving here just before lunch. Firstly, I must apologise for not telling you more about Woomera & the photos. Woomera was a rocket testing base for the British back in the 60's & 70's and is still a operating RAAF base in a supportive mode.
Cooper Pedy was fascinating from the characters that you met trying to or have dug their fortune to the night at the local 'drive in' on Saturday night showing a typical Aussie movie called RAM starring Sam Neill & Michael Caton.
The hills just outside CP are called The Breakaways and form a great back drop at sunset.
We saw how they live & worship underground which is quite something.
Time to get the hiking boots out, fly net & plenty of water to tackle The Rock & The Olgas.
Plenty of caravans & motorhomes on the road, quite a lot from the Hunter Region.
The Red Centre is now the Green Centre as the recent rain as transformed the area. Weather is sensational, can't say the same about the flys & petrol prices.

    The Town Down Under

    April 30, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Good morning from Cooper Pedy, SA. Arrived here late yesterday afternoon after a long day on the road from PA. Not much to see along the way. The road is straight but in excellent condition. A short stop in Woomera was the highlight. Very interesting place & the history behind made it a worthwhile stop, just 6 Kim's off the hwy. Plenty of salt bush & salt lakes on the way. Time to find a gem or three. Wish us luck!Read more
