      Mont-Saint-Michel

      Dann folgen weitere 70 Kilometer Richtung Süden, denn wir wollen heute noch am Mont-Saint-Michel ankommen. Dort haben wir eine Reservierung auf einem Campingplatz, den wir kurz nach 16 Uhr erreichen.

      Mit der per E-Mail zugesandten PIN geht die Schranke zur Privatstraße hoch, über die neben diversen Hotels auch der „Camping Du Mont-Saint-Michel“ erreichbar ist. Das ist die dem Berg nächstgelegene Möglichkeit für eine Übernachtung im Wohnmobil. Für das Befahren der paar Hundert Meter sind bei der Ausfahrt zusätzlich zum Preis des Campingplatzes 11,50 Euro Gebühren täglich zu zahlen.

      Um 16:30 Uhr haben wir eingecheckt und geparkt. Die Sonne scheint inzwischen und wir beschließen, noch zum Berg zu fahren. Dafür nutzen wir den kostenlosen Shuttlebus, der im acht-Minuten-Takt direkt gegenüber dem Campingplatz abfährt.

      Der Mont-Saint-Michel ist sehr schön anzusehen vor dem blau-weißen Himmel. Um 17 Uhr strömen uns Massen von Besuchern entgegen. Wir sind genau zur richtigen Zeit hier. Durch den Torbogen gelangen wir quasi in die Rüdesheimer Drosselgasse: Souvenirshops, Imbissbuden, Restaurants. Eins neben dem anderen. Dabei immer noch viele, viele Menschen. So richtig schön ist das nicht.

      Unzählige Fotos später verlassen wir das Sightseeing-Highlight und fahren mit dem Shuttlebus wieder zurück zum Campingplatz. Im Restaurant mit übersichtlicher Speisekarte, aber es ist das einzige, das um die Zeit – 19 Uhr – geöffnet hat, verspeisen wir einen Hamburger und ziehen uns dann vor den Mücken ins Wohnmobil zurück.       Optimismus

      Heute Abend sind wir froh, überhaupt noch Haare auf dem Kopf zu haben. Zum Regen hat sich hier in Saint-Michel nun auch noch wahnsinniger Wind🌬️ gesellt, sodass wir uns bei unserer kleinen Abendrunde ordentlich gegen den Sturm stemmen mussten. Den Willi 🐶 haben wir kräftig festgehalten, sonst hätten wir heute wahrscheinlich einen Flughund gehabt.

      Heute morgen verließen wir den Platz in Saint-Valery-en-caux nachdem wir gemütlich in unserem Vorzelt gefrühstückt hatten, um nicht nass zu werden🤪und in Ruhe zusammen gepackt hatten.

      Zweimal auf unserer Route weiter gen Westen mussten wir uns die Äuglein reiben, wähnten wir uns doch schon fast in Amerika, ob der Freiheitsstatue in Ville de Fleure und etwas weiter der kleineren Kopie der Golden Gate Bridge....irre....

      In einem auf der Strecke liegenden Sportgeschäft unseres Vertrauens deckten wir uns erst einmal mit Regenkleidung ein, wollen wir doch morgen den Mont-Saint-Michel erkunden, den man von hier aus mit dem Shuttlebus, dem Fahrrad oder auch zu Fuß erreichen kann.

      Noël no Mont Saint-Michel

      Este foi o sítio que escolhemos para passar o dia de Natal - é claro que na viagem trouxemos connosco o bacalhau, grão e ovos do Torrão e, assim, foi só comprar por aqui uma couve e umas batatas, et voilá, uma consoada vraiment portuguesa 🤩

      O Mont Saint-Michel é um penedo no meio da foz de um rio onde, há mais de 1000 anos, uns monges beneditinos construíram uma pequena igreja para assinalar o local onde o arcanjo apareceu em sonhos ao bispo de Avranches e lhe pediu que ali construísse um santuário em seu nome. Com a vinda de cada vez mais peregrinos, a pequena igreja foi crescendo e tornando-se, primeiro numa ermida, depois numa abadia para a qual vários reis contribuíram acrescentando-a em tamanho e em altura.

      Na guerra dos 100 anos o monte foi usado como fortaleza contra os ingleses, resistindo durante 30 anos a um cerco. Mais tarde, com a revolução francesa, os monges abandonaram o local que foi então convertido numa prisão que ali funcionou até meados do século XIX.      Read more

      Abends erreichen wir den Parkplatz, welcher direkt vor der Insel für Wohnmobile eingerichtet wurde. Mit dem Bezahlen der Parkplatzgebühr, ist auch ein kostenloser Shuttlebus zum Erreichen der vorgelagerten Insel inkludiert. Als wir ankommen, sind alle bereits beim nach Hause gehen. Wir sind antizyklisch wie immer unterwegs! Diese Idylle Uin ser Stadt mit der Lichterstimmung ergibt einen besonderen Reiz und wir genießen mit relativ wenig Personen die Abendstimmung am Mont sainte Michelle und freuen uns danach im Auto auf unser gutes Abendessen und eine lustige Kartenpartie, die ich wie immer verliere!Read more

      Mont Saint Michel – mehr geht nicht

      Es ist Wochenende und unser nächstes Ziel einer der beliebtesten Sehenswürdigkeiten in Frankreich – Mont Saint Michel. Wir tasten uns langsam vor, aber nicht nur wir. Riesige Parkplätze kündigen an – hier ist was los. Der Mont-Saint-Michel und seine Bucht gehören seit 1979 zum „UNESCO Kulturerbe der Menschheit“. Die Ursprünge des Heiligtums gehen auf das Jahr 708 n.Chr. zurück. Aubert, der Bischof von Avranches, errichtete auf dem Felsen ein Heiligtum, nachdem ihm der Erzengel Michael der Legende nach drei Mal erschienen war. Die Bucht hat die stärksten Gezeiten Europas. Wo am Morgen noch Wasser war, laufen am Abend die Wattwanderer. Nachdem wir uns am Morgen diese beeindruckende Anlage nur aus der Ferne anschauen, geht es am Abend direkt auf den Klosterberg. Dazwischen besuchen wir das Seebad Granville. Granville ist eine ehemalige Fischer- und Seeräuberstadt, die sich im Laufe der Jahre in ein malerisches Hafenstädtchen mit Badeort, Kasino und Thalassozentrum verwandelt hat. Aber der Abend am Mont Saint Michel in der schönen Abendsonne ist schon beeindruckend.Read more

      la première semaine

      Aujourd'hui est dimanche et j'ai passé une bonne semaine très spéciale, mais aussi très complique. À l'école nous devons parler beaucoup et nous devons faire peu d'excercises ecrits. C'est bien pour moi parce que je ne sais pas encore très bien parler français. Un soir après l'école nous sommes allés au cetre ville et nous avons fait un peu du shopping et après nous avons cherché un restaurant qui n'est pas cher pour manger le dîner. Nous avons trouvé une pizzeria et nous avons mangé une pizza. Mais j'ai été très stressé parce que j'ai eu peur que je ne vais pas arrivé à la maison à temps. Mais à la fin tout est passé bien est je suis arrivé plus tôt que nécessaire.
      Samedi nous avons fait une éxcursion, nous sommes allés avec le car au mont-saint-michel. Toute la journée était très interessante et unique et pour la première fois il y avait du soleil pour toute la journée. C'était genial est j'ai aimé beaucoup la mer. Alors nous avons passé une bonne journée et j'ai aimé cette journée le plus de tout la denière semaine. Mais le matin moi et Jana nous avons eu des problèmes avec le bus, parce que le bus n'est pas arrivé et car ça nous avons dû aller très vite. Nous avons couru la moitié de la ville, mais à la fin nous sommes arrivées à temps. Et en plus le soir, quand j'ai voulu retourné à la maison avec le bus, il n'est pas arrivé. alors je suis allée à la maison a pied.      Read more

      Mont St Michel

      We have a bit of a drive today across from Honfleur to Mont St Michel.

      This is the 2nd most popular tourist spot after the Eiffel Tower.

      It is basically an island on a sand bar that was first settled in about 708 AD and as time has passed it has been built into this extraordinary abbey.

      You first see it from about 40 kms out and already the tourism factor has kicked in.

      We chose the shuttle and after a lengthy queue we were taken on to the island. This is a wow! How did they build this?

      Mont-Saint-Michel lies approximately one kilometre off France's north-western coast, at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches and is 7 hectares in size.

      Only 33 people are considered permanent residents. While we were here it was packed. The French government is considering limiting the numbers allowed each day on to Mont St Michel. We think this is a good idea.

      Today we were lucky enough to see a magical island topped by a gravity-defying abbey, the Mont-Saint-Michel and its Bay count among France’s most stunning sights. For centuries one of Europe’s major pilgrimage destinations, this holy island is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as is its breathtaking bay.

      Mont-Saint-Michel has been prone to silting up over the last couple of centuries. Man-made activities, including farming and building a causeway to the Mont, have added to this problem. However, a major conservation project back in 2015 has helped restore island status to the Mont-Saint-Michel. The main river into the bay, the Couesnon, has now been left to flow more freely so that sediments are washed out to sea, and a bridge has replaced the former causeway, enabling the sea to once again more fully surround the mont at particularly high tides.

      The abbey is quite a climb and then they sting you again to go inside. Quite frankly as an Abbey we thought it was a bit bland. Perhaps we have been spoilt with our previous travels.

      The drive back to Honfleur was quick and we arrived safely in time for sunset cocktails from our apartment outlook. We really have been enchanted by Honfleur but tomorrow we head to Cherbourg really early to return the hire car.      Read more

      A fantastical French Abbey and Village on a lonely island in the middle of a grand tidal bay. There's also lots of stairs, quite a lot, Nan did not like them.

      Le Mont Saint-Michel take two!

      Amazingly, considering our sore feet from yesterday we managed to actually get up and get going before dawn. So so glad we did, it was beautiful, the mist rising from the open fields was glowing as if on fire as it reflected the sun rise. Not a soul to be seen until we neared the bridge to the island and then only a handful of people were about (strangely they all seemed to be Chinese people!) Bliss was grinning like a Cheshire Cat, clearly enjoying the day as much as we were. The walk there went in the blink of an eye as we were awestruck by the sights and sounds of a perfect morning. We arrived at the island and as if for the first time we could now see what we had missed the day before amongst the scrum of people. The village is amazing, how on earth was this possible, it was built like something you could only imagine ever seeing in a fantasy video game. The stone walls and cobbled streets with gift shops, cafes and restaurants that were built on such a gradient and the many quirky little narrow passages and steep stone steps leading to small clearings where trees grow and walls with death drops everywhere (I’d never want to take a child there, I’d be a nervous wreck!) for someone scared of heights it certainly triggers your vertigo. Birdsong all around you as you are now at their level high up on the rooftops as you ascend the steep winding steps. Unfortunately we could only get halfway up because we weren’t able to take Bliss into the monastery or the museum but it was still very much worth making the effort to get up and go again when it was quiet. I would have loved to have seen it at night, I imagine that lit up it would be stunning. We made the long walk back to Ivy tired but happy and set off for our next journey to our next overnight stop.Read more

      Noch einmal Mont St. Michel

      Heute sind wir früh gleich zum Berg gefahren, wir wollten gleich um 9 Uhr zur Öffnung in die Abtei. Die öffnete dann um 9.20 Uhr und die Schlangen waren riesig. Zum Glück hatten wir gestern noch Karten vorreserviert und auf dem Gelände verteilten sich die Massen dann zum Glück. Gegen Abend waren wir dann noch auf dem Berg und haben die Gassen ohne Zuviel Menschen auf uns wirken lassen. Schön war, ein einmaliges Erlebnis und wer in der Gegend ist, sollte unbedingt den Berg und die Abtei besichtigen.Read more
