      Étape 4 : Nice-Imperia

      18. maj 2022, Italien ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

      Distance : 86km

      Framura

      22. maj 2022, Italien ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

We decided to visit one of the tiny towns in the Cinque Terre this afternoon while the crowds were insane in Vernazza.

We did the easy trail along the ocean...and then the hard trail up to the town. It was quiet and lovely - so interesting to walk the narrow streets and imagine what it's like living up there!

Framura, a small village on the Ligurian coast of Italy, is a hidden gem. With stunning coastline, rich history, and authentic Italian charm, it's perfect for those looking to experience a more authentic side of Italy. Visitors can explore the rugged cliffs, hidden coves, and scenic cycling routes that wind through the hills and along the coastline. Framura also has a rich cultural heritage, with historic churches and ancient fortresses that once protected the town from invading armies. The village offers a glimpse into traditional Italian culture, with family-run restaurants serving delicious local cuisine, including the region's famous pesto made from locally grown basil, pine nuts, and Parmesan cheese.

Santuario di Nostra Signora di Reggio

      23. maj 2022, Italien ⋅ ⛅ 63 °F

We took a very curvy bus ride up into the hills to the sanctuary above Vernazza. The early people that settled here first settled high up in the mountains for protection and farmed on terraces. Each of the Cinque Terre villages has a sanctuary high above that was one of the first things built.

We were the only people there and it was lovely and peaceful. We then wound our way back down on foot to Vernazza. We saw a lot of homes tucked away in the hills, and some cars that we still can't quite figure out how they managed to get there.

      Azure Trail to Corniglia

      24. maj 2022, Italien ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

My watch totaled 83 stories on this hike.

The accordion player on the way in to Corniglia was a nice touch, as was the juice bar part way through.

As usual, Éowyn found a stick.

The Azure Trail, also known as Sentiero Azzurro, is a renowned hiking trail that winds along the stunning coastline of the Cinque Terre region in Italy. This picturesque trail connects the five colorful villages of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore, offering breathtaking views of the azure waters of the Ligurian Sea. The trail takes hikers through terraced vineyards, olive groves, and charming coastal villages, showcasing the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the region. Along the way, visitors can explore hidden coves, take in panoramic vistas, and immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of each village. The Azure Trail is not only a feast for the eyes but also a journey that allows travelers to appreciate the rugged coastline and experience the charm of the Cinque Terre in all its glory.Læs mere

      Corniglia

      24. maj 2022, Italien ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

This is the smallest of the 5 towns, and the only one with no access to the sea.

I could spend a few days in each town just exploring every nook and cranny!

Unlike its coastal neighbors, Corniglia is not directly accessible by the sea but can be reached by climbing a series of steps or taking a shuttle bus. This seclusion adds to its quaint allure, as it remains the quietest and least crowded of the Cinque Terre villages. The village's narrow streets, lined with colorful buildings, lead to breathtaking viewpoints that showcase the beauty of the Ligurian coastline. With its relaxed atmosphere, Corniglia is an ideal place to savor authentic Italian cuisine in local trattorias, sample regional wines, and immerse oneself in the traditional way of life.Læs mere

      Dinner in Monterosso

      24. maj 2022, Italien ⋅ ⛅ 70 °F

The girls took the train and met us in Monterosso, the biggest of the 5 towns.

The restaurant we ate at (brilliant idea to make burgers with focaccia) is in a building over 600 years old.

We stumbled upon an interesting little church that looks very ominous and is called the Brotherhood of Death and Prayer, but was actually a group that helped widows, orphans, shipwreck survivors, and buried the poor. The interior is a little surreal with all of the skeletons.

Monterosso is a captivating village nestled along the rugged coastline of the Cinque Terre region in Italy. It is the largest and most diverse of the five villages, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and seaside charm. With its sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and colorful beach umbrellas, Monterosso is a popular destination for sunseekers and beach lovers. The village also boasts a charming old town, where narrow streets are lined with traditional shops, delightful restaurants, and inviting gelato stands. Visitors can explore the medieval structures, such as the Church of San Giovanni Battista, or take a leisurely stroll along the scenic promenade.

    • Benevento Italy 🇮🇹

      7. juni 2022, Italien ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

Took 12 hours to get here, but, oh my god…it is worth it! Arrived sweaty and slightly overwhelmed as I hadn’t had wi-fi for 9 hours & navigation of bus-train combo. Just took a guess at where Hotel 🏨 Miro was, knowing it was on seafront, as I requested a room overlooking the sea! They delivered….in spades ♠️ as expected the host was absolutely lovely and so helpful. She gave me tips on places to eat & explained how to walk to particular hotspots such as Portofino (inspiration for Disney/Pixar’s ‘Luca”
      It’s 11.30pm and I’m comfortably wearing shorts & t-shirt! 🥰

The rain is seafront as I asked for and it is typically Italian in style and decoration… It is really comfortable and has that the spoke Italian feel about it!

After I freshened up, powdered my nose and did the big 3 S’s I was good to go eat…
9pm but I was rewarded for my efforts! I had the most delicious seafood (fruits of the sea 🌊) spaghetti 🍝

Rapallo is right on the waterfront and the seafood in the dish came just out of the boat 50 metres from the restaurant… Honestly, it was so delicious 🤤 It was served with complimentary breads and breadsticks. I ordered half a litre of wine and some sparkling water…Bellissimo! 🇮🇹

Unfortunately, just got a message from Richard who, it seems, is not meant to meet me… There is an air traffic controller strike tomorrow in Genoa and his flight was cancelled! Poor guy! I’m so disappointed because I was really looking forward to sharing this Italian Riviera experience with him… Hope he is okay and coping… It is such a long flight from Australia and to get bad news on arrival is devastating!

Hugs 🤗 from the start of the Italian Riviera leg of my trip.

      Ciao baby 🏖🇮🇹🥰🦞
