Where is MordorNovember 29, 2016 in New Zealand
Today's plan was to get to live Lord of the Rings and destroy the ring on Mount Doom. The mount is actually called Ngauruhoe and is near two other volcanoes. The Tongariro crossing allows us to climb and see all these great volcanoes.
This morning the forecast was a mix of clouds with a chance of rain. We arrived all equipped but the weather was unfortunately on the rainy side.
We arrive at the parking lot and take a shuttle to the other end of the park which would allow us to finish the trek and get back to our car. The shuttle driver warns us that the weather can be pretty bad and that the forecast is very windy for today.
We start the trek and things aren't that bad but clouds block us from seeing anything, we hope that it will clear up and we will get the chance to see Mount Doom. As we go up the weather gets worse; the winds increase and the temperature drops. We can't see anything, as we walk we hope that we don't get blown off the ridges.
After freezing our butts we find a rock to protect us from the freezing winds and put on extra layers to protect us. We continue thru this horizontal rain. We don't know when we get to the top but at some point we start heading down again. We still can't see anything passed our noses. As we go down the rain and winds get calm. As we finish the trek the sun seems to want to come out but the clouds are still present.
Disappointed that we were not able to see much but happy to have endured and completed the trek.Read more
