      Le retour des montagnes !

      On est surexcité·e·s à l’idée de retrouver les montagnes ! 🔥

      Nous parvenons dans le parc national des Piénines dans l’obscurité. Il fait maintenant noir de plus en plus tôt par ici, aux alentours de 18 h la nuit tombe. Nous avons tout juste le temps d’apercevoir le relief et la forêt aux couleurs automnales. La surprise n’en sera que plus belle au réveil ! Jeanne & Quentin ont élu domicile chez l’habitant dans un petit village tranquille, au pied des montagnes. Un repas & au lit, pour profiter des sentiers demain. 💪

      Nous sommes rejoint·e·s par Mégane & Tom qui nous accompagnent à l’ascension des Trzy Korony ! ⛰

      Le chemin est légèrement glissant par endroits, mais reste bien entretenu. Nous sommes seul·e·s sur les sentiers, et nous mesurons cette chance ! Au sommet, les cabanes qui devaient accueillir les gardes forestiers sont vides, l’entrée sera donc gratuite pour nous aujourd’hui. ✌ Une passerelle donne accès au point de vue, avec un sens de circulation déterminé, laissant imaginer la foule de randonneureuses qui doit se presser ici en été !

      Du haut du point culminant, nous oublions l’effort physique fourni, au profit de cette récompense fabuleuse. Un 360 ° de montagnes aux forêts parées de leurs couleurs d’automne. En contrebas, la rivière du Dunajec et ses gorges marque la frontière entre la Pologne et la Slovaquie.

      Le vent est saisissant et nous décidons de pique-niquer un peu plus bas, afin de ne pas finir congelé·e·s ! 🥶

      Comme à son habitude, notre guide de rando officiel, Paulo (ou Pawel pour les intimes, depuis sa rencontre avec son alter ego polonais à la mine de sel de Wieliczka !) nous propose une « petite » rallonge. 😂 Nous voici donc déterminé·e·s à ajouter quelques centaines de mètres de dénivelé supplémentaires à notre balade. Une belle idée qui nous a valu la découverte de vestiges d’un château et la rencontre avec une salamandre tachetée !

      Sur le chemin du retour, nous exploitons tous les bras disponibles pour récolter du bois pas trop humide en prévision d’un feu pour le soir…

      La journée s’achèvera donc avec une pizza faite maison cuite au feu de bois ! 😋      Baca selengkapnya

      Krakow

      First day in Poland we made the trip out to Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Prior to arriving it was snowing so we were very cold on the tour. It was very harrowing but also so informative. That night we just went and got dinner at a Mexican stand with the group and returned to our hotel! Which we were excited for after staying in hostels for so long despite the fact that the shower was in the bedroom 😀

      Day 2 of krakow we tried plenty of polish food, including these traditional donuts which were warm with fillings and soooo delicious. We did some window shopping and sightseeing and then for dinner met up with Millie’s family from Poland and had dinner and drinks with them.      Baca selengkapnya

      Durch Schlesien auf dem Weg nach Krakau

      Auf der Fahrt durch Schlesien und Oberschlesien kommen wir durch eine Region, die ähnlich wie das Ruhrgebiet von Kohle und Stahl geprägt wurde. Hier vollzieht sich heute ein Strukturwandel hin zu modernen Industrien und Dienstleistungen. Daneben treffen wir auf dem Weg nach Krakau immer wieder auf Orte deutscher Vergangenheit. Kaffeepause in Nysa/Neiße unweit der Kathedrale.Erstaunlich viele Bauarbeiten, weitestgehend mit EU-Mitteln, selbst wenn das manche Herrschaften in der polnischen Politik unter den Tisch fegen.
      Bei Kędzierzyn-Koźle / Kandrzin-Cosel überqueren wir die Oder und kommen nach Gliwice / Gleiwitz. Die am Rande des oberschlesischen Industriereviers gelegene Industriestadt machte Weltgeschichte, als angeblich Himmler mit Hilfe von SS-Einheiten und in polnische Uniformen gesteckte Sträflinge einen angeblichen polnischen Überfall auf den Reichssender Gleiwitz organisierte. Der Vorfall diente als Vorwand für den Einmarsch nach Polen. Der Sendeturm Gleiwitz wurde gemeinsam mit der neuen Sendeanlage 1935 errichtet und ist ein Funkturm aus Holz. Die Anlage überstand den Zweiten Weltkrieg fast unversehrt. Einschließlich des 8 Meter hohen Antennenmastes erreicht er eine Höhe von 118 Metern und ist heute der höchste Holzturm der Welt und einer der letzten verbleibenden in Holzbauweise errichteten Sendetürme überhaupt. Dann machen wir noch einen Kaffeestopp bei meinem Freund Günther Uttendorfer in seinem Camp 9. Gute Gelegenheit, an meiner GS den Ständer zu schweißen und schon steht sie wieder so wie sie soll. Die letzten 100 km nach Krakau ziehen sich durch das Industriegebiet und den abendlichen Berufsverkehr, aber die warmen Temperaturen und die hügelige Landschaft entschädigen dafür.       Ein Tag in Krakau

      Vormittags machen wir einen Stadtrundgang in Krakau, das reich an mittelalterlicher Barockarchitektur ist, geprägt von vielen Museen und Denkmälern. Wegen ihrer vielen Kirchen wird die Stadt auch als „slawisches Rom“ bezeichnet. Ich bin hier schon mit vielen Stadtführern unterwegs gewesen und jedesmal war es anders. So auch dieses Mal mit Tomasz. Und wieder gab es andere Blickwinkel und Zugänge. Nachmittags machen wir einen Ausflug zum Salzbergwerk in Wieliczka. Alex holt uns am Hotel ab und nimmt uns wieder mit zurück nach Kazimierz, das besterhaltene ehemalige jüdische Stadtviertel Europas. Dort essen wir auch im Ariel zu Abend.Baca selengkapnya

      Weiterfahrt nach Kleinpolen

      Auf der Weiterfahrt von Krakau nach Südosten kommen wir nach Kleinpolen. Zunächst erreichen wir bei Nowy Targ das Karpatenvorland, später den Bereich der Hohen Tatra unweit von Zakopane, das wir aber vermeiden. Landschaftlich ist es sehr schön, ausgesprochen hügelig und besonders die kleinen Straßen machen Spaß, allerdings ist es sehr zersiedelt, im Prinzip geht eine Ortschaft in die andere über. Interessant auch die Baustile in diesem touristisch gut erschlossenen Gebiet. Schließlich erreichen wir die Holzkirche bei Debno und den Jezioro Czorsztyńskie, einen Stausee an den Flüssen Dunajec und Białka, den wir auf dem Weg zu unserm Hotel in Czorsztyn teilweise umrunden.Baca selengkapnya

      Ankunft in Kraków (Polen btw)

      Nach einer kurzen Nacht, keiner Grenzkontrolle, drei Mautstationen und einem Busfahrer, der Spaßeshalber in einem leeren Tunnel um 2.00 Uhr nachts hupt, sind wir gegen 9.00 Uhr endlich an unserem Hostel angekommen.

      Leider waren wir mehr als zwei Stunden zu früh da, weshalb wir nicht einchecken durften. Wir stellten nur unsere Koffer ab, danach ging es erst einmal knapp 2km in die Innenstadt bzw. die Altstadt. Dort begutachteten wir den Fluss, der hier durch Krakau führt und hatten einen tollen Blick aufs Schloss.

      Nach dem Mittagessen in einem naheliegenden Restaurant konnten wir endlich in Hostel einchecken. Die meisten legten sich nach der kurzen Nacht nochmal schlafen, um für die Stadtführung, die am Nachmittag war, fit zu sein.

      Gegen 15.00 Uhr holte die Stadtführerin uns am Hostel ab. Sie führte uns durch die Altstadt und zeigte uns die unterschiedlichste Sehenswürdigkeiten der heimlichen Hauptstadt. Fotos liegen bei, lol.
      Nach der Führung hatten wir knapp eine Stunde Zeit, ehe es zum Abendessen ging. Danach wieder zum Hostel, wo wir den Tag ausklingen ließen.      Baca selengkapnya

      Well today was a long day getting up at 5 then the U ban then the S ban then an 8 hour bus but I'm finally here in Krakow and met my mum and Sarah.

      The Poland detour

      When we got up this morning, the clouds had gone away and it was perfect cycling weather. We were going to pass the Tatra mountains on the North side via Poland and enter Slovakia again in the afternoon.
      But sometimes, traveling doesn't work like this. When we saw the mountains, we immediately fell in love with this place. We just loved the nature and the wooden houses of Zakopane architecture style. Plus, when we had climbed our first hill, we were welcomed by something like a fair with little stalls, rides, horses etc. We were in the middle of a ski resort on a ridge overlooking Zakopane. Most of the hotels and restaurants had an amazing view of the Tatra range, so we stopped for a coffee, extended the stop with a Radler and decided to look for accommodation nearby.
      We found a nice guesthouse in the direction of the Slovakian border. This gave us time to explore Zakopane: We went to the main shopping and aprés ski road to watch people and try some local street food. We also went to the famous ski jump area and the entrance of the Tatra National Park.
      Afterwards, we cycled to our guesthouse, a real lucky find. It was clean, the owners were super nice, we could see the mountains while chilling in the backyard and we received a delicious traditional meal. We later learned that the owners are famous chefs in town, so couldn't have chosen any better accommodation for the night!      Baca selengkapnya

      Krakow - Stare Miasto (Old Town)

      Our route from The Wawel to the Stare Miasto (Old Town) takes us past the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, with its Baroque facade, the Church of St Andrew next to it and on to the Franciscan Church; this has amazing interior decoration which is not immediately apparent to the naked eye. We walk alongside the Bishops Palace on to the Collegium Maius, the oldest building of the Jagiellonian University (itself one of the oldest universities in Europe); it has a beautiful arcaded courtyard.

      We turn right and reach the Main Market Square, one of the largest medieval squares in Europe. The Town Hall Tower is the only remaining element of the town hall buildings that used to be here; it is next to the magnificent Cloth Hall, which has been part of the city's trade since the 13th century (the rebuilt Hall now mostly sells jewellery and souvenirs). Outside the main entrance to the hall is the Adam Mickiewicz Monument, commemorating a 19th century poet. Close by is the Gothic St Mary's Basilica, an iconic site of Krakow, with a magnificent altar inside; it is also famous for the hourly trumpet call in all four directions (which we hear).

      We walk up Ulice Florianska towards St Florian's Gate; this is part of the Royal Route (which we have followed - with diversions - from Wawel Hill to the Main Market Square and on to the Florian Gate); the gate was once part of medieval fortifications. We divert again to the Slovacki Theatre and its grounds before doubling back to the Barbican; this is the oldest remaining element of Krakow's defences, and one of only three such outposts still existing in Europe.

      We cross over to Plac Matejki, which is dominated by the Grunwald Monument, constructed in 1910 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald.      Baca selengkapnya
