    Where it all began

    June 13, 2017 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

I guess that if I should start somewhere it should be in Spain, after this is where it all began. This is the country where I was born and this is the country I left behind to go and love abroad. This is the country I first tripped around before I travelled around.

I was born and grew up in Tenerife. I often travelled to the mainland during my childhood to visit relatives, so there a few places I know quite well. One of them is Málaga, the glitzy capital of the Costa del Sol, and the other is a small village called Milmarcos, which most probably you've never heard of. Well, I'll tell you some about it later on.

Besides, I have done some road trips with my parents and seen several more towns and cities in Andalusia and some villages in the often forgotten plains of inner Spain. I also did a trip a few years ago with some friends and visited Madrid and Toledo. Unfortunately, I don't know much more about my home country. But that only means that I still have plenty to discover. So, here's a list of some things I'd love to see some day:

    - Visit all seven Canary Islands.
    - Hike the Camino de Santiago.
    - Visit Barcelona. Maybe watch Barcelona FC play at the Camp Nou.
    - Do a road trip in Andalusia and visit Seville (never been there), Cordoba and Granada.

    Tenerife, Spain

    May 12, 2018 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

A terrible day for the whole photography team. Jackson was IPM so I made plans with one of the shore excursion people to go to Loro Parque a zoo that is suppose to be amazing. This morning he called me and he had to cancel because he had to cover a tour instead when we were suppose to be meeting his family there. Then I heard about another photographer’s girlfriend’s grandma dying. Then I heard a photographer, Marie is going home. That for medical reasons she can no longer stay on the ship and will possibly be leaving the ship tomorrow. Then i visit the Photo office and even the keyboard for Manas’ computer stopped working which lead to him locking the account and the technician is not working again until 6pm tomorrow to fix both things so he can’t make schedules or anything. Needless to say it’s been a long day. We were all suppose to pile into my passenger cabin for a movie night but that ended up having to be cancelled. I just went to bed early after going to see Murder On the Orient Express in the Playhouse theatre on the ship.Read more

Day 7 - Santa Cruz, Tenerife

    November 5, 2018 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

Up early after an awful night. Coughing fit in the middle of the night, J had a bad belly which wouldn't go away.
Breakfast was very light after yesterday's gorging.
Coach for Teidi left at 8.30 and we wound our way thru the clouds to around 7000 feet. Very sunny and not as cold as we thought. Thick coats not required so far. Spectacular views of the coast and the volcano Teidi.
Stopped at cafe for drinks and biscuits. Entered the crater which is 12 miles in diameter and over 40 miles round. It's like a lunar landscape up here. Very rocky with lots of black soil from previous eruptions. Got to the base of Teidi and what can you say. If you haven't been it's difficult to describe. Rising another 3000 feet out of the middle of the crater is Teidi itself. You can only get to the top en pied or by cable car. We did neither but the views are truly awesome. I don't think even our pictures can do it justice. Spent about 30 mins here and then made our back down thru the clouds and back to Santa Cruz.
Lunch in the Palm was made in heaven for me. On the buffet they had fresh prawns, fresh mussels, lobster and amazingly - CRAB! I could not believe my eyes. It took me 3 visits to realise what they were serving. Fantastico! I forgot all about feeling tired and full of cold and just filled my boots. Time for an afternoon siesta!
Some hope! Repairing the lift right outside our room been going on all day and is still going on as I write this at 6.30pm. On our balcony the noise from the port was horrendous so moved to the top deck and managed to get some sun and shut eye. Still feeling crap from my cold but at least J's belly ache has gone!
Major complaint just gone into Guest Services about the noise of the repairs which have gone on all day and just stopped at 7.00pm. No notice given and having seen the extent of the repair this could go on for days. Waiting to speak to the manager.
Had to go down to Guest Services as manager didn't call me back, ugh! Spoke to Laura who listened patiently to my rant. She did what should have happened initially and offered us another room to use whilst the work was being done. Simples!
Dinner in Palm and then to Rock n Roll show Neptune which was very good and then to bed. Here we go again - see you in La Palma!
