      Point défis MELDO 🦄 & anecdote Istanbul

      ANECDOTE DÉBUT MAI - ISTANBUL :

      Nous sommes arrivés hier à Istanbul. Après quelques kilomètres de marche dans la vieille ville, nous sommes arrivés au pied du Bosphore qui marque la fin de l’Europe - de l’autre côté du Bosphore s’étend l’Asie. C’était symbolique car c’était la toute première fois que Meldo voyait l’Asie et la première fois du voyage pour nous…
      En se rapprochant de l’eau, nous avons découvert qu’entre nous et l’Asie, une famille de dauphins nageait, sautait… ! - voir vidéo à l’appui. Autant Louis était stoïque (“bah oui, quoi… t’as jamais vu des dauphins?”), autant moi j’avais 5 ans ! C’était trop cool de les voir sauter dans tous les sens. Le seul dauphin sauvage que j’avais vu dans ma vie avant cela, c’était en Guyane avec des jumelles !
      Malheureusement ils étaient trop loin pour un selfie (autre défi à relever)…

      Turkish miracle #2, ugh🤯😬, 😀!

      We had decided we'd take the bus to Istanbul which meant an 8 hour trip starting with the local bus from Pamukkale to Denizli then the bus to Istanbul. Bob had bantered and joked with the ticket man when we'd arrived in Denizli a few days prior and he remembered us, fortunately... We arrived in Denizli with an hour to spare (better to be early than late) only to discover Larry's wallet was missing! Kathie ran back to the local bus and had everyone helping as she crawled around the floor; the ticket man called the hotel to see if it was there; Bob checked with the bus driver again; Kathie & Larry went to the police. I was in charge of all the bags! The ticket man, who offered me tea and a seat, then called the local bus driver and with his network of drivers, they found it and returned it intact to us! We had 6 minutes to spare before the Istanbul bus left. Whew! Crisis averted again! The kindness of strangers has been amazing!
      The trip to Istanbul ended up being 10 hours and again, a very circuitous route. I thought we'd end up in Bulgaria! It was 10 p.m. so we took a taxi to the airb&b. When he dropped us on this dark back street with graffiti and broken buildings, I was sure he'd dumped us and left. Unfortunately, we were in the right place. Kathie contacted the host and his nephews eventually came down to let us in. We went up 3 flights of stairs to a big apartment with laundry hanging in every room. It was a disastrous place but it was late so we had something to eat down the street and went to bed. Bob had already decided we weren't staying and the dog crap💩 in the stairwell the next morning confirmed it! Bob looked online for hotels and I suggested we contact the host which Kathie did. He agreed to refund us the remaining 3 nights if we didn't give him a bad review🤯 and we were to tell airb&b that we had an emergency and had to leave. We were going to leave anyway, with or without a refund. It will take a couple of weeks for the refund...🙏🤞. Bob found us a lovely hotel in the same district but in a much better neighbourhood. We checked in, were given a Turkish coffee then we wandered around. It was Kathie's birthday so we were up for celebrating her birthday🎂 and the escape from the airb&b! We ate at a lovely restaurant with a top floor terrace and view of the sea. It turned out K&L had eaten there a few years ago!

      Unsere Unterkunft in Istanbul

      Wir hausen in einer kleinen Ferienwohnung von „Ayasofia Family Suites“ nur 15 Minuten zu Fuss vom Stadtzentrum entfernt. Sie ist im vierten Stock ohne Lift.
      Wir geniessen die grosse Dachterrasse nutzen zu dürfen, was wir jeden Tag beim Morgen- und manchmal auch beim Nachtessen machen. Die Küche ist klein und sehr spartanisch eingerichtet. Es fehlen Messer und es hat nur drei Gabeln und nur einen grossen Topf, was uns aber nicht stört, da wir ausser harten Eier nichts kochen. Die nächsten Restaurants sind nur 5 Minuten entfernt. Für nur 5 Fr. pro Person können wir hier gut essen in Restaurants und ohne Getränke wären es 4 Fr.. Ebenfalls Bäckerei und Lebensmittelläden sind in nur ein paar Minuten zu Fuss erreichbar. Es hat ein
      WC mit Dusche, ein paar bequeme Sessel und für Eva und Aline einen grossen Tisch mit Stühlen zum Hausaufgaben machen. Einzig die Bettdecke ist nicht warm, nur ein Tuch aus „Waffelstoff.“ Nachts wird die Haustüre gut verschlossen und ein Nachtportier ist die ganze Nacht dort. Auch unsere Wohnungstüre hat drei Schlösser. Ich kann also allen mit bescheidenen Ansprüchen diese Unterkunft sehr empfehlen. Eine Nacht für vier Personen kostet nur 51 Euros.      Leer más

      Hamam

      Heute Nachmittag waren wir in einem Hamam.
      Dort gibt es eine Sauna und ein Pool. Es gab auch noch eine Seifenmassage. Zuerst waren wir in der Sauna. Ich bin nur ca. 3min. in der Sauna geblieben nachher war es mir zu heiss. Meine Mutter und meine Schwester sind ca. 8 Minuten drinnen geblieben, nachher sind sie aber auch rausgekommen. Mein Vater ist nicht mitgekommen, weil er nicht gerne in die Sauna geht. Nach der Sauna waren wir bei der Massage.
      Am Anfang hat sie uns mit einem rauen Lappen
      geschrubbt und danach kam die Seifenmassage. Am Ende war ich noch im Pool. Er war nur ca. 4 Quadratmeter gross und sehr kalt. Er war nach der Sauna aber sehr erfrischend. Leider hat Eva ihr Armband verloren. Das war nicht so toll. Dann sind wir wieder zurück ins Hotel gegangen.

      Am Strand

      20 de mayo de 2022, Turquía ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

      Heute wollten wir an den Strand 🏖 gehen. Zuerst aber sind wir mit der Metro ein paar Stationen gefahren bis wir angekommen sind. Dann waren wir zuerst essen. Ich hatte Pide, Urs auch, Aline hatte Lahmacun, und Susanne hatte Grillgemüse mit Fleisch. Danach mussten wir noch ungefähr 20 Minuten zum Strand laufen. Das Meerwasser💦 ist zwar kalt, aber es war trotzdem schön am Strand 🏖. Wir sind ein bisschen geblieben, und irgendwann sind wir dann wieder zurück in unsere Ferienwohnung gegangen. Am Abend sind wir dann noch Indisch essen gegangen. Aline fand es ein bisschen zu scharf. Aber ich fand es gut 👍. Danach sind wir wieder in die Ferienwohnung gegangen und haben geschlafen.Leer más

      Merhba in der Türkei! Mehrba in Istanbul, einer wunderschönen Stadt zwischen Europa und Asien. 😍

      Einerseits erinnert es mich von der Struktur und der charmanten Architektur her sehr an eine europäische Stadt🏠, gleichzeitig werde ich beispielsweise durch die vielen Straßenkatzen🐈oder „die Schreier“ auch immer wieder an Asien erinnert🎤. Gestartet bin ich ja in Indien, wo ich jede Nacht ein gratis Tempelkonzert bekommen hab. Jetzt bin ich in der Türkei und kriege 5x am Tag ein Moscheenkonzert.

      In einem Moment merke ich einmal mehr, wie westernized die Städte heutzutage sind. Kopftuch wird nur von einzelnen getragen, überall gibt‘s McDonalds, BurgerKing, H&M und Co…🍟 Dann erlebe ich ähnlich zu den asiatischen Märkten einen türkischen Markt, wo hauptsächlich Spices, Wunderlampen und fliegende Teppiche verkauft werden🪔. Dann spaziere ich weg von den Touris eine halbe Stunde in einen anderen Stadtteil und sehe nur mehr in schwarzen Burkas verhüllte Frauen und Männer in dunklen Quamis. So vielfältig ist Istanbul.

      Meinen ersten Tag in Istanbul verschlafe ich leider so ziemlich😴. Ich wache erst um sechs Uhr abends auf und rechne damit, dass jeden Moment die Sonne untergeht. Aber nein, die bleibt tatsächlich bis 8 Uhr am Himmel😮. Die nächsten zwei Tage nutze ich dafür, ein bisschen Sightseeing zu machen, die Hagia Sofia und Blue Mosque anzuschauen🕌, durch die türkischen Märkte zu schlendern, im Park und am Hafen das frühlingshafte Wetter zu genießen☀️ und natürlich Kebab zu essen.🥙 Und noch anderes türkisches Zeugs, dessen Name ich schon wieder vergessen hab. Uuuuund ganz viele Kekse leider auch… aber ich muss es halt ausnutzen, wenn es hier wieder sowas wie Milka, Kinder, Loacker, etc gibt…

      Türken sind auf jeden Fall interessante Wesen. Ich hab mir vorgestellt, dass ich wie in Indien voll auffallen würde, dem ist tatsächlich aber überhaupt nicht so. In vielen Fällen reden mich die Leute sogar auf türkisch an - was ich übrigens eine sehr assoziale Sprache finde.🤯 So assozial wie die Sprache klingt, hab ich mir auch die Menschen vorgestellt. Somit war ich sehr überrascht, dass die meisten Leute hier eigentlich ganz nett sind. Und mich auch in Ruhe lassen, wenn ich es ihnen signalisiere (dasselbe gilt auch für Flirtversuche).☺️☺️

      Meine Reise-Freundin Theresa hat immer wieder mal gesagt, dass Istanbul ihre Lieblingsstadt ist. Jetzt wo ich hier bin, kann ich das sehr gut nachvollziehen. Die Stadt bietet kulturell wie auch landschaftlich (sie ist auf einem Hügel gelegen und umgeben von Meerengen) und menschlich gesehen sehr viel. Sie ist schön, ordentlich, es laufen so viele wunderhübsche Katzen rum, es gibt gutes Essen, gute Shoppingmöglichkeiten… was will man mehr?🥰
      Nichtsdestotrotz habe ich nicht allzuviel Zeit hier eingeplant- am Dienstag Abend geht es für mich mit dem Nachtbus schon wieder weiter. Ich werd aber definitiv nochmal zurückkommen.      Leer más

      Istanbul

      Cycling in the city of Istanbul with over 15 million residents was by far not as bad as expected. The route was planned carefully before. Lasse and I were cycling together from the Northwest and then along the Bosporus. No doubt, there’s pure chaos the further you get into the center. And still it felt organized. Just watch the motor scooters, follow them (sometimes) between the cars and defend your space. All good!

      Divided by the Bosporus, both the European and Asian part offer countless sights. To visit all would probably take months or even longer. The impressions you get from such a city where cultures from all over the world come together is exceptional. It’s hard to capture all this in photos. I think you have to experience the views, smells, aromas and noises yourself.

      Spending 6 days in Istanbul was a fascinating and yet tiring experience. My highlight was of course the shared time with my sister Sandra. We had a relaxed and lovely weekend. Though in the evenings we were both exhausted of huge crowds and full bellies - also because my body showed first signs of food intolerance. I guess this is just a small taste of what to expect further east.      Leer más

      Discovered rooftop restaurants

      Since my last post we've been to a bunch of rooftop bars and restaurants. I didn't realise this for a fair while, but apparently a big portion of the buildings here have some sort of venue on the roof, it's so sick! Tonight we went to a bar called monkeyistanbul, it was the best one so far. We watched the sun set over the river and had a perfect, uninterupted view of the big istanbul flag, like 6 mosques, and all the cool houses and buildings that are stacked up on top of each other around the river. We went to the bar with basak and she gave us a bunch of presents to say thankyou for the fun month. We're gonna have to do something awesome for her before we go because she's been fab! Today we also went to a beach on the Asian side. It was a lovely hot day and the water was cool and refreshing. Not sure if I've mentioned this already, but one of the main things ive found interesting about istanbul is its unusual layout. It's so big theyve decided to have loads of mini cbd areas surrounded by houses instead of one gigantic area made up of a billion skyscrapers. We passed like 3 cbds on the way to the beach, there must be 100s over the while city. Yesterday we tried some fried seafood sticks for dinner and surprisingly didn't get sick! The actual food was kinda garbage tho. Spencer had a guy come over to record some vocals last night and I got to experience what Ethan's life has been like living next to me ahahaha.
