Oceania & Asia 2019

Yesterday was a very hot one in Perth, with temperatures apparently hitting close to 40c! We decided our best course of action was to head to the beach and take a dip in the cool Indian Ocean. We took a taxi out to Cottesloe Beach and were delighted to discover a long pretty beach of soft sand where the locals swim and surf. We spent the day in “Cott” and had a fish supper in a pub overlooking the sea and watched the sun set. Very pleasant.
After the success of yesterday, this morning we planned to try a different beach. After breakfast we were in our room getting our beach bag packed and putting on our sun lotion when the front desk rang to say our car was here to take us to our next hotel, a 3 hour drive down the road, and were we ready to check out?! We (Ken) had got the itinerary completely wrong and whilst we thought we had another day in Perth, we should have been leaving! We asked the driver to wait 20 minutes for us whilst we quickly packed up our cases and headed down to reception, slightly embarrassed at our faux par! We spent most of the car journey down to the Margaret River chuckling over our morning phone call and what would have happened if we had got up 30 minutes earlier and we would have been on the beach when the chauffeur arrived!
Margaret River is 3 hours south of Perth and is said to have the best wines in all of Australia. We are staying in Cape Lodge for a couple of nights and the hotel here is in a fabulous setting. We arrived in time for afternoon tea and had just enough time for a cuppa before changing for dinner to get back for wine tasting before a lovely dinner!
