    Belgaum

    February 23 in India ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Belgaum is not the usual vacation destination, but as the native place of my friend, it will host his wedding reception. By arriving we could already feel the difference in air humidity and see the palms that gave us that refreshing vacation sensation.
Belgaum is known for the sugar cane plantations, which reminds me a bit of home. The main monument to visit is the Belgaum Fort, which recently opened after a renewal. The sunset from there is amazing and the view is really calming in the middle of all the madness of Indian cities.
We have also tried the typical sweet, Kunda, and visited a local shop for some chat.

    Jaipur - the final chapter

    February 22 in India ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Our last day in Jaipur started with a lot of shopping at the Bapu Bazaar. That involves a long time of bargaining (and some free chai) and in the end we could add a few kgs to our luggage. Thinking about other kgs to be added, we made a stop for Pani Puri, my favorite street food of all.
We walked around the pink city and reached the Hawa Mahal (Wind palace), the "symbol" of Jaipur. For the first time I visited the palace from the inside and it's quite impressive to think that the women living there would only see the streets and festivals from those small windows, without being seen by anyone.
We had planned to visit the city palace but we met a local that could speak Portuguese and lost track of time. That gave us however a chance to see the Hawa Mahal also with its lighting at night. The ride back to the hotel was very beautiful, with all the lights around the city wall.
To finish our stay in Jaipur, on the following day we asked our Uber to stop by the Praktika Gate for a last shot.
Now Karnataka is waiting for us.

    Jaipur continues

    February 21 in India ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Second day in Jaipur and our driver took us to a really hidden place in the outskirts of the city. I hadn't read about it in any of the blogs I have researched before. It's a royal cemetery, where different kings (Maharajas) are buried, including the last one who passed in 2011. The local guide explained to us a bit of the history and also showed his excellent skills with pictures.
From there we headed to the Amer (or Amber) Fort. I wasn't so sure about entering another fort but I had a really pleasant surprise. The royal residence, built by Man Singh consists of several places, including the mirror palace and a very beautiful garden.
Close to the Fort we can see an old well built to serve the population in Amer. To make it possible to the locals to reach the water, steps were built along all the walls. Nowadays people are not allowed to go down the steps, only to admire the optical effect they create.
The last monument we saw was the water palace. Most probably built as a hunter lodge by the king Macho Singh II and renovated by Jai Singh II, the interior of the palace can it be visited since 2020 due to conservation and preservation.
To end our day, we had some masala chai at a proper tea stall - the best chai so far.

    Jaipur

    February 20 in India ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We took a really early train to Jaipur so we could explore the city the most. Luckily we met a great Auto driver to take us to the city gems.
Our first stop was a really nice rooftop restaurant where a bit of Jaipur's architecture is displayed
We then headed to the Albert Hall, a museum built by the British during their ruling. The building itself is magnificent and we were really happy to see more of the country's and of Rajasthani history.
The last stop of the day was the Monkey Temple, named due to the amount of monkeys living there.

    Agra

    February 19 in India ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

We got the train early to explore one of Indians most famous destinations. Agra, home of the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort.
I have read many times that the Taj Mahal is not as beautiful as people expect, that it is getting yellow and lots of other bad reviews. I am here for the second time and I will be back anytime. It is one of the most impressive things I have seen.
The ride with Autorickshaw (the tuktuks) is crazy, to say the minimum. How do they know who's turning or going where? I have no idea.

    Bahadurgarh

    February 17 in India ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

We arrived at 05:00 am and went directly to Bahadurgah for the ceremony. Due to the farmers strike trying to reach the capital, most of the roads were closed and we had to take Uber + metro + Uber.
But it was all worth it. The Haldi ceremony was very beautiful and the same we can say about the ring ceremony.

    Time to relax

    October 15, 2023 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

Our whale watching tour had to be cancelled due to the weather conditions - Iceland is not for the anxious or control freaks - so we went to the Perlan museum. Not exactly a must, but we found that out too late. The highlight is an ice cave, in which we did have some cold at -15ºC and a nice overview of the whole capital city and the amazing mountains outskirts.
At least we had, in the city center, the best value/meal in Iceland at La Poblana.

The best of our day however was our time at the thermal spa Sky Lagoon
We have decided on it due to the amazing view and the possibility of seeing the sunset. With all the clouds and all, there was no sunset but nonetheless an amazing view. We also went through the 7 steps ritual, that involved a mix of plunge in cold water sauna, cold mist and an amazing salt scrub. After that? Just relax in the hot swimming pool.

The perfect last day for our trip.

    Gold and White

    October 14, 2023 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 0 °C

The weather decided to play along and we had an excellent day - or as excellent as we could expect.
Our tour started early to the area known as the golden circle. First Stop, Hakid visitor center, where we could see the biggest lake in Iceland, where the old Parliament used to take place in the year 970 AC. From there we also see the division between the north American and European tectonic plates.

Second stop, the Gullfoss falls, formed by glacier water. Again we were lucky as the sky was clear and the visibility amazing. Not a hint of rain.

From the Gullfoss we took a monster truck to the longest glacier in Iceland - Langjökull. Incredible immensity of white surrounding us, absolutely isolated from everyone and everything else. We have learned so many interesting things about glacier, how they are formed and melted by volcanic activity that it's impossible to describe in few lines.

After being back, we experienced the opposite as we observed geysers - including Geyser, the geyser that named all geysers. We have experienced two nice eurpting but obviously it got shy as we were filming it.

The landscape on the way back was amazing, including driving by the Kerid crate - for my next visit to Iceland - and some stunning ice mountains.
