    Platypus Spotting at Broken River

    October 16, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Jack had this place pinned for ages after reading that it’s one of the best places in the world for spotting Platypus!

So we headed inland to hopefully get the opportunity to see them and we found out that the best time to see them was at dawn and dusk.. so we waited until 5pm, head down to the river and found two 😍🥹

Did you know that multiple platypus are called a paddle of platypus 🥹

We got some photos and videos and just stood watching them for ridge for a while before we headed back to a pub we waited at…

Read the next footprint to find out why 😍

    The Reign of Bats

    October 16, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

… for as long as I can remember I’ve loved bats. It is stupid to say but I’ve always just been impressed with them!

Since finding out that Queensland has the most insane amount of bats I’ve had it on my mind to see a colony of bats take flight and fill the sky.

Today I got to see just that! 😍

We went to this pub for somewhere to kill the time before going to see the Platypus at dusk.. and when we arrived all of the tropical bush was full of bats as far as we could see!!

So after the Platypus we came back and waited until the it was time for the bats to fly…

    Good Pie, Good People

    October 16, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

We decided to get some driving done this evening to be closer to Finch Gorge (an Irish bar tender at the last pub recommended it as a must swim) tomorrow so we found a pub that does free camping in exchange for us buying food or drink, and it’s only 15 minutes to the Gorge.

When we arrived and walked across the deck, a man looked up at us from his pie and chips and asked if we were good people, to which Jack responded with “that’s not for us to decide..”. This man then asked if needed somewhere to stay tonight and when we said yes he told us we could stay at “Platypus Bush Camp” for free!! He said if anyone asked to say that Shane said we could stay for free but not to tell the other guests that.

Shane went on to tell us that the camp has full amenities (even HOT showers) and it backs onto the gorge.. he even told us where to park to hear the water throughout the night!

So we had some pie and chips, Jack spoke to friends from home and we set off to the Camp (or cult.. we’re yet to find out..).

    ALSO WE MET A BANDICOOT.
    What a day.

    Shane’s Platypus Paradise

    October 17, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

We woke up to the sounds of the stream and when we woke up and took a step outside, we found ourselves in a Rainforest Retreat..

    We couldn’t believe it!
    Wooden huts and tree houses,
Hot showers powered by fire with the most spectacular view,
    Platypus viewing areas,
    Hand crafted camp kitchens,
    Natures swimming pools,
    Hammocks,
    No WiFi,
    Games of chess…

This place was unbelievable! And we had somehow been randomly picked to stay for free and just enjoy the beautiful surroundings!

We made a cup of tea and sat down by the water, played a game of chess and just soaked it all in 😍

This place was next level and we will 100% be back again.

Thanks to Shane for being so accommodating and fun!

Whitsunday Islands Sail - Day 1

    October 18, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

Today we got up super early to run some errands before we needed to meet for boarding an ex-racing yacht called “Spank Me”.

I was super excited for this trip!
    I looooove sailing.
Leading up to the trip I was worried that there wouldn’t be alot of actual sailing and mostly motoring.. but in the early hours of this morning we were woken up to super good winds!!

So first thing we got the sails up and started to sail to the islands! It was so good!

Then we stopped at a couple of snorkelling spots which were incredible! We saw the biggest fish either of us had ever seen and some beautiful coral reefs 😍

Tomorrow we get to see the most incredible beach in the world 🥹

    Whitsunday Sail - Day 2

    October 19, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

Another day at sea.. another couple travel sickness tablets consumed 😂

The moment we sat up out of bed today we started to feel it.. while it wasn’t exactly poor conditions, it was just awful getting ready below deck in a hot and steamy bathroom the size of a cupboard 🥹

The crew took us to another reef for some snorkelling before spending the afternoon on Whitehaven Beach 😍 which was unbelievable!!! The photos don’t do it justice 🥲

We had a sneaky nap under a tree on the beach and it was glorious. The best nap so far!!

And we also got a sunset sail to our spot for the evening!

A lot of people chose to camp on the beach tonight and we decided against it because of the wind and the lack of warm clothing we brought! Which is a great idea considering the amount of noise last night on the boat with the party and people falling through hatches into other peoples beds 😂

Here’s to a better night sleep and meeting dry land tomorrow for some food and lots of Powerade 🥹

    Back on Dry Land

    October 20, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 23 °C

Last night most people stayed on the island in Swags while we stayed on the boat with the crew and three other passengers! And thank god we made that decision!

When they came back at 6am, they all said it was cold and people were getting bitten by green ants!

We started to motor back to the shore of Airlie Beach and everyone parted ways to have a relaxing day.

We fiat went to Woolies for bottles of cold water, Powerade and crisps and dip to sit around the lagoon with and just chill. It was so good!

Later we went for a walk through town and gathered there’s not loads to do or see, but it’s an overall nice place to be!

We met up with people from the boat in the evening and had some drinks before our first night back in our lovely camper bed 🥲

It hasn’t been overly eventful but it has been a good day ☺️

A Spanish Castle in the Rainforest

    October 24, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

This place came recommended by a couple of people and boyyy are we glad we visited!

We arrived last night and did the evening tour and light show, which was beautiful ✨

The park has a camp site that we stayed at and had some showers, a lye in and watched some TV on the IPad.

This morning we got up and went for a morning tour of the park and got the history of the place. It’s so impressive!!

Jose Parranella bought the land off a farmer and built all of the structures on the land. He built the first hydroelectric source in Queensland at the time. He opened the park with a ball room, a cafe, a pool on the waterfall, picnic areas where he angled each picnic table so that everyone had an uninterrupted view of the impressive waterfall.. two tennis courts, beautiful walks, an ice cream stall and many more hidden treasures 🥹

Since it’s hay day it has been subjected to multiple natural disasters which have left the place a shell of what it once was, however the current owners of the land have done work to maintain the property as best as possible and even have bought more local property for regenerating rainforest.

It’s a beautiful spot and we would recommend anyone to call in for the day and night!

    Josephine Falls

    October 24, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

One you pass Agnes Water on the East Coast, it’s no longer safe to swim in the sea due to the risk of Salt Water Crocodiles and Sharks. So it becomes more about swimming in gorges and at waterfalls!

Today we visited a recommended waterfall and it didn’t disappoint!

It was so tropical and reminded me of a dream I’d had in the past.

That’s until after taking some photos, the “March Flies” became persistent about feeding on my blood and I got so frantic that it was time to leave 🥲

Before that point though, it was the perfect spot for some natural water slides and a cold dip!
