    Port Doug 🥥

    October 29, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

    We LOVED Port Douglas!
A friend from Instagram gave us some recommendations and she came through 🤝

We also caught the markets which were really nice to stroll through. There were so many lovely jewellery stalls selling pearl necklaces. And coconut stalls and foood and drink!

We thoroughly enjoyed our day pottering around and soaking up the local lifestyle.

We stopped in at the botanic gardens too and the butterfly house was so good! So many cocoons hatching 🥰

We will be back to Port Doug 🫶

A story about the coconuts.. see the video!

Where Rainforest meets the Great Barrier

    October 28, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

Another very surreal place to stand.
This is the place where two World Heritage sites meet.

✨Where the oldest rainforest in the word meets the longest coral reef in the world✨

To think that these two ecosystems rely heavily on each other and that we rely heavily on them, yet we take advantage of that fact, is so sad!

I wish we could give people this feeling. Show them how special a place like this is!

The rainforest holds some of the most ancient species of plant dating back to the Jurassic period!!

    I love it here.

    What a magical place!!

A Night in the Oldest Rainforest✨

    October 27, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

And just like that another bucket list activity was ticked off the list!

I said I wouldn’t leave Australia without seeing the Daintree Rainforest first.. and we made it!!

Cape Tribulation is a beautiful area and is World Heritage listed!! We got to see so many beautiful areas and so much biodiversity 🤩

We learned about the Daintree Blockade, and how even though they didn’t succeed in stopping the road being built, they did intact cause a chain of events that led to the protection of the Rainforest 👏🫶

We spent our day in swimming holes and walking around the different bays.
It has given us a taste for the ultimate tropical north and we would very much love to bring a 4WD to drive further up the cape and see some even more beautiful and out of the way rainforest and jungle!

We were super lucky that we got to book an evening nature tour through some of the rainforest. Our guide spotted out some awesome critters for us to learn about and observe!

    We got to see:
    Web caster spider.
Peppermint stick insect (see video!), which is called that because when upset or scared they spray a peppermint scented liquid to deter predators!
Green ants (which Jack can confirm taste sour).
    Wolf spiders.
    Tent web spiders.
And I spotted a Hermit Crab in a snail shell!! (See video).

I feel so lucky to have experienced this incredibly intricate ecosystem fist hand! I can’t wait to see more of it in the future and I will do my best to fight to secure that future!! ✨🤝

    The Great Barrier Reef Dive

    October 26, 2023 ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Today we ticked off a huge bucket list dive!

10 months after completing our Open Water qualification, we made it to the GBR and made three 40 minute self led dives!

We both had our reasons to be nervous a few days before, after having not been diving for so long! But we did some refreshing of skills and made the dives safely!

We got to see some incredible stuff that we weren’t expecting to actually see this time around!

    A white tipped reef shark.
    A Cuttle Fish!
    Some people saw an octopus!

The complexity of the corral was amazing. It’s a living animal and my favourite part is always seeing how it interacts with its environment! Seeing is move as you swim over it is so interesting!

And we found a new favourite coffee spot - White Whale Coffee! 👏

    Cathedral Fig Tree

    October 25, 2023 in Australia

.. we stopped at the Cathedral Fig Tree just for a bit of a detour and it was a great improvement decision!

This tree is 500 years old!
It’s a strangler fig and begins its life as a seed that is dropped onto the canopy of a tree by a bay or a bird and starts to grow its roots down from the top of the tree, getting its nutrients from the host it has landed on. Eventually the roots reach the ground and it begins to grow around, fully immersing the host tree until it kills it, leaving a hollow gap where the host once was.

Sounds morbid but they are incredibly intricate networks hosting a whole world of animals, birds and insects!

I was suuuuper tempted to climb the tree, it had foot holds all the way up with the way it had grown.

When you look to the canopy of the tree you can see islands of earth and plants that have grown up there and I imagine these have become a haven for small mammals and birds to nest upon!

I would love to see an areal video of this amazing tree!!

A morning dip in the most recommended waterfalls of our trip!

    This one was very cool!
It must be one of the most instagrammed spots in Australia, and I complete get it.

    Bucket list ticker:
    Swim under a waterfall ✅

And there were no March flies 🥹✨

    Josephine Falls

    October 24, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

One you pass Agnes Water on the East Coast, it’s no longer safe to swim in the sea due to the risk of Salt Water Crocodiles and Sharks. So it becomes more about swimming in gorges and at waterfalls!

Today we visited a recommended waterfall and it didn’t disappoint!

It was so tropical and reminded me of a dream I’d had in the past.

That’s until after taking some photos, the “March Flies” became persistent about feeding on my blood and I got so frantic that it was time to leave 🥲

Before that point though, it was the perfect spot for some natural water slides and a cold dip!

A Spanish Castle in the Rainforest

    October 24, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

This place came recommended by a couple of people and boyyy are we glad we visited!

We arrived last night and did the evening tour and light show, which was beautiful ✨

The park has a camp site that we stayed at and had some showers, a lye in and watched some TV on the IPad.

This morning we got up and went for a morning tour of the park and got the history of the place. It’s so impressive!!

Jose Parranella bought the land off a farmer and built all of the structures on the land. He built the first hydroelectric source in Queensland at the time. He opened the park with a ball room, a cafe, a pool on the waterfall, picnic areas where he angled each picnic table so that everyone had an uninterrupted view of the impressive waterfall.. two tennis courts, beautiful walks, an ice cream stall and many more hidden treasures 🥹

Since it’s hay day it has been subjected to multiple natural disasters which have left the place a shell of what it once was, however the current owners of the land have done work to maintain the property as best as possible and even have bought more local property for regenerating rainforest.

It’s a beautiful spot and we would recommend anyone to call in for the day and night!

    Back on Dry Land

    October 20, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 23 °C

Last night most people stayed on the island in Swags while we stayed on the boat with the crew and three other passengers! And thank god we made that decision!

When they came back at 6am, they all said it was cold and people were getting bitten by green ants!

We started to motor back to the shore of Airlie Beach and everyone parted ways to have a relaxing day.

We fiat went to Woolies for bottles of cold water, Powerade and crisps and dip to sit around the lagoon with and just chill. It was so good!

Later we went for a walk through town and gathered there’s not loads to do or see, but it’s an overall nice place to be!

We met up with people from the boat in the evening and had some drinks before our first night back in our lovely camper bed 🥲

It hasn’t been overly eventful but it has been a good day ☺️

    Whitsunday Sail - Day 2

    October 19, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

Another day at sea.. another couple travel sickness tablets consumed 😂

The moment we sat up out of bed today we started to feel it.. while it wasn’t exactly poor conditions, it was just awful getting ready below deck in a hot and steamy bathroom the size of a cupboard 🥹

The crew took us to another reef for some snorkelling before spending the afternoon on Whitehaven Beach 😍 which was unbelievable!!! The photos don’t do it justice 🥲

We had a sneaky nap under a tree on the beach and it was glorious. The best nap so far!!

And we also got a sunset sail to our spot for the evening!

A lot of people chose to camp on the beach tonight and we decided against it because of the wind and the lack of warm clothing we brought! Which is a great idea considering the amount of noise last night on the boat with the party and people falling through hatches into other peoples beds 😂

Here’s to a better night sleep and meeting dry land tomorrow for some food and lots of Powerade 🥹
