      Cernobbio l'inspirante

      Ce matin, Phoeni surplombe le lac de Côme ☀️.

      Nous sommes à Cernobbio, sur la côte ouest du lac de Côme, non loin de la ville éponyme.
      On a préféré élire domicile dans cette ville à taille humaine, où l'on peut évoluer à pied (ça grimpe beaucoup, aïe les courbatures d'hier 😝).

      C'est samedi, tous les locaux se retrouvent sur la promenade le long du lac et dans les parcs, on se mêle donc à la population et on profite d'un café au bord de l'eau ☕.

      Plus loin, un autre espace arboré accueille la villa Erba, un superbe palais avec une programmation culturelle. Au loin, on entend de la musique, on s'est donc faufilé•e•s à l'intérieur et nous nous sommes mêlé•e•s au public d'un sublime concert ! Une chance inouïe !! (Cf. vidéo 😇). Le parc de la villa abrite plusieurs arbres gigantesques et offre une chouette vue sur le lac.

      On a aussi visité un bureau de poste italien (coucou papa 👋), iels avaient l'air surpris•e•s de voir des touristes français de notre âge acheter autant de timbres !

      Garé•e•s près du cimetière de Cernobbio, on a pu faire le plein en eau et hop, c'est reparti 🚐.

      Ce soir, au dodo dans la campagne au bord du Pô (une rivière), on est arrivé•e•s pile pour le coucher du soleil 🌅.

      Demain, ce sera journée route (on se dirige vers Florence✌). À dans quelques jours donc !

      Day 117: The Great Pre-Alpine Lakes

      When we chatted with German engineer Tobias in Bulgaria, he told us we need to go to the Chianti wine region and the northern lakes in Italy. Neither were on our radar, but it was an excellent recommendation as the Great Pre-Alpine lakes were breathtaking.

      We hiked for two hours around the San Thomas church and had views of Valmadrera and Lecco. Next we ventured down to the water to catch a bus north. The service was reduced during non summer months so we opted to hang around the lake, especially with storm clouds and gloomy scenes feeding Mary’s desolate soul. Needing coffee, we hiked up what google maps said was a walking path which really was a road with no shoulders and blind spots.

      This was all worth it though as we found an espresso bar that really was a bar bar. We got some beers and chatted up the bartenders as they fed us little snacks and more drink recommendations. This included a coffee with anise vodka and then a Campari made extra strong. Mary had been looking for an Italian local happy hour she read about online and we finally got it. We ran home and enjoyed our last delicious Italian dinner.

      Tirano

      From Milan we jumped on a train to Tirano for the next leg of our trip. Tirano is in the lower part of the Alps and the train passes by Lake Como on the way up. Beautiful!

      It was a beautiful, albeit cold, day and snow on the mountain peaks made for a beautiful backdrop.

      Tirano itself is a relatively small town, but has a great atmosphere. We were hungry by the time we arrived at 1, only to remember that Italy all but shuts down between 2 and 6 for those all important Nanna naps.       Bella Italia

      Endlich war es so weit- nach 5€ (wenn es günstig war) für einen Cappuccino und 9€ für drei Kugeln Eis, küssten wir den italienischen Boden direkt hinter der schweizer Grenze.

      Die Schweiz, landschaftlich ein absolutes Highlight und voller toller Wander- und Radfahrmöglichkeiten, ist ein wunderschönes Land. Das Engadin mutet schon sehr italienisch an und man spricht hier sowohl Schwyzerdütsch, als auch Rätoromanisch und Italienisch, die Preise sind jedoch zu krass für uns, die wir länger unterwegs sein wollen.

      Hier in Italien macht es Spaß einen Cappuccino (für 1,60€) zu trinken oder sich eine Pizza zu gönnen. Wir sind noch ganz irritiert von den Preisen und freuen uns immer wieder auf's Neue.

      Unseren ersten italienischen Stopp legten wir nach einer fantastischen Abfahrt vom Malojapass (1300 Höhenmeter auf 26km bergab fast ohne einmal in die Pedale zu treten) mit einem Aperol Spritz in Villa di Chiavenna ein, bevor wir dann weiter nach Borgonuovo gerollt sind. Dort waren Luzi und ich schon mal vor einigen Jahren mit Günther (für alle, denen dieser Name nicht geläufig ist- das ist unser 42 Jahre alter VW Bus) und wir hatten den Campingplatz noch in bester Erinnerung.
      Seit Sonntag sind wir am Comersee. Wir nutzen das Wassertaxi um von A nach B zu kommen, denn das Radeln kann hier auf den engen Straßen echt unangenehm sein. Helena ist am Mittwoch mit dem Zug nach Hause gefahren. Luzi und ich sitzen hier den Regen und die erste Magen Darm Grippe aus. Es bleibt uns also viel Zeit zu überlegen,wie wir (hoffentlich) morgen weiter Richtung Süden radeln.

      Achja- noch ein kleiner Nachtrag: Luzi war wirklich dabei den Boden hinter der Grenze zu küssen... der Fahrradhelm hat sie allerdings vor dem direkten Bodenkontakt bewahrt. Leider gibt es hierzu kein Foto 😜.      Okumaya devam et

      Anreise 1. Teil

      Habe mich entschieden die 600 km Anreise in 2 x ca. 300km aufzuteilen, muss mich erst an den Jinmy mit Dachzelt gewöhnen, ist natürlich kein perfektes Autobahnfahrzeug. Leider war es kein guter Reisetag durch die Schweiz, am Gotthard wurde über 3 Stunden Stau berichtet, habe mich deshalb für die Bernardinoroute entschieden. Diese war aber auch sehr zähflüssig und nach 5 1/2 Stunden und 360 km bin ich an meinem Zwischenziel angekommen.
      Tollen Campingplatz 🏕️ zum Übernachten gefunden : Monte San Giorgio Camping und der Dachzeltaufbau geht auch schon sehr schnell 😂

      Heading for home

      Unsere nun viermonatige Reise war eine unvergessliche Zeit voller Entdeckungen. Wir haben gemeinsam atemberaubende Landschaften erkundet, neue Orte entdeckt und uns immer auf "Neuland" eingelassen, ohne wirklich zu wissen, was uns erwartet. Die Freiheit des Reisens ohne Ziel hat es uns ermöglicht, das Leben in vollen Zügen zu genießen und wertvolle Erinnerung zu schaffen. Wir sind dankbar für die schöne Zeit. Es gab keinen einzigen Tag, an dem es uns zu eng war. Im Gegenteil. Wir sind froh, diese Erfahrung gemacht zu haben und freuen uns schon auf " Auf und davon Vol 2" aber auch wieder nach Hause zu kommen. Vielen Dank für eure Ermunterung immer etwas Neues von unserer Reise zu posten. Auf diese Weise haben wir am Ende eine tolle Zusammenfassung, die wir uns als Fotobuch ausdrucken lassen. Es gab viele unvergessliche Momente. Die Fotos sind die Zeugen und die Texte helfen die Erinnerung wach zu halten.       L'ascension du Monte San Giorgio

      Ce matin, réveil dans la brume en Suisse 🇨🇭.

      On a hésité, puis décidé finalement de ne pas changer nos plans et de nous lancer dans l'ascension du Monte San Giorgio ! ⛰

      L'appli de rando nous promettait un sublime panorama sur le lac Lugano durant toute la balade, de quoi nous faire oublier la difficulté du dénivelé... résultat : nous n'avons absolument jamais aperçu le lac ! 😅

      Pour nous, le spectacle s'est trouvé ailleurs, car nous étions enveloppé•e•s de nuages durant toute la journée.

      On a donc beaucoup moins regardé à l'horizon, et nous nous sommes concentré•e•s sur le sol que foulaient nos pieds (aussi parce que c'était très glissant, j'ai oublié de dire qu'il pleuvait ? 😬). On a pu observer : des primevères, du houx, des petites pervenches, et... des salamandres tachetées ! (cf. photo).

      La forêt semblait s'éveiller sous nos yeux après un long hiver. C'était magique ! Il y avait quelque chose de mystique dans cette montagne boisée recouverte de brume... C'est d'ailleurs une montagne chargée d'histoire ; nous avons appris qu'elle a conservé des milliers de fossiles !

      Lake Como

      Our two and a half hours on Lake Como were absolutely lovely. Our tour guide peppered us with facts about the construction, history and inhabitants of particular villas along the lakeside, and we enjoyed spectacular views. We even managed to snap George and Amal Clooney's home - and according to the press he was in the area at the time.Okumaya devam et

      Lake Lugano

      A day on Lago di Como

      Lago di Como welcomed us today with taxi rides to Lenno which is on the western shore of the lake and then to Bellagio. We visited Villa del Balbianello which is the most beautiful mansion on the peninsula of Lavedo. The last owner, Guido Monzino, left his estate, museums and gardens to the FAI upon his death at age 60 in 1988 (national trust of Italy).

      Lunched right on the lake with pasta pasta pasta, wine and a happy little cappuccino, evviva!!

      Then we explored Bellagio’s bustling streets and secret stairways. Soooo busy there! Got in trouble (in a good way) at the wine shop there, oyi!!

      I was happy to return to our apartment in Varenna which is slower paced. And once again Ended the evening with dinner and wine.
      Not pictured was the gelato we had after dinner from Bon Bon.. it is a shop owned by Alessandra who also owns our air bnb apartment. She makes fresh gelato right on premise. The two flavors I had: malgata- sweet wine and raisin- holy smokes, and the other was a combo of ricotta, fig and Carmel. I mean REALLY??!! Maybe I’ll have to go back - twist my arm- so I can post a picture.
