      San Gimignano

      Das Auto parkten wir außerhalb der Stadt, zu Fuss gingen wir in die Innerstadt, wo sich inser Hotel befand. Wir machten uns schnell frisch und zogen los, durch „San Gimignano“. Eine wirklich beeindruckende kleine mittelalterliche Stadt mit ganz viel Charme. Zudem gibt es mehrere Aussichtspunkte von wo aus man einen Blick auf die italienischen Weingüter hat. Einfach traumhaft schön.

      Nach einer Runde durch das Stadtzentrum suchten wir uns eine kleine Osteria. Ich gönnte mir einen schönen Rotwein und Pasta mit Garnelen. Abschließend durfte das Tiramisu nicht fehlen.

      Day 7

      Endlich mobil

      Nach einen gemütlichen Frühstück im Hotel verabschiedeten wir uns aus Florenz. Dann ging es für uns ziemlich entspannt mit der Straßenbahn zum Flughafen. Dort stiegen wir direkt in den Shuttlebus, welcher zu den Rentalstationen fuhr. Blöderweise war unser Vermieter nicht zu finden. Dann bekamen wir den Tipp diesen anzurufen. Er meinte ein Shuttlebus ist unterwegs der uns abholen sollte. Also warteten wir. Angaben wo genau zu warten ist gab es erst nach einen weiteren Anruf. Wir mussten wieder zurück mit dem Flughafen Shuttlebus, um am Flughafen mit dem Shuttlebus unseres Vermieters zu fahren. Ein ganz wirres hin und her. Nach einiger Wartezeit und Hoffen und Bangens das ein Shuttlebus auch kommt, fuhr der Kleinbus vor. Ein dezent genervter Fahrer gab uns zu verstehen, dass nicht alle in den Bus passen. Die Stimmung war dementsprechend etwas angespannt. Wir kamen noch mit und waren dann nun endlich 40 Minuten nach geplanten Start an unserer Autovermietung. Nach einiger Wartezeit dort, bis der Papierkram erledigt war starteten wir mit einer Stunde Verspätung unseren zweitägigen Miniroadtrip.

      Der Verkehr in Italien ist etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber man findet schnell herein und wenn man das teils rücksichtslose Verhalten der anderen Autofahrer mit einberechnet gut machbar 😅. Es kommt mir manchmal so vor als würde hier die Macht des Stärkeren gelten. Wer zögert verliert.

      Nach ca. einer Stunde Fahrzeit waren wir am Meer, um genau zu sein einen kleinen Badeort namens „Tirrenia“. Ein paar Hotels, aber ein wunderschöner flachabfallender Sandstrand. Wir mieteten uns zwei Liegen mit einen Schirm und knallten uns ins Wasser.

      Am späten Nachmittag fuhren wir nach „San Gimignano“. Die Fahrt dort hin führte uns durch traumhafte Landschaften. Olivenhaine, Weinreben und die typischen italienischen Landhäuser, gepaart mit einer bergigen Landschaft.      Read more

      Day 3

      Day 112: Wine Tasting in San Gimignano

      Going hard through Turkey, Bulgaria, and Greece, Mary made promises to take it slow in Tuscany. By slow, she meant going on wine tours to sip Chianti, eat Italian cold cuts, and guzzle all the olive oil.

      San Gimignano is one of those little Tuscan towns situated on a hillside peak with a medieval wall and castle surrounding it. We found two wineries 7 minutes from town and signed up for a light 12pm lunch and 3pm tour, hoping to walk from each location. Sadly, the weather had different plans and we were facing 10 hours of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

      Regardless, we jumped into the car and visited Azienda Agricola Palagetto for small lunch of proccuto,, Tuscan fennel salami, bread with honey, olive oil, and homney. The lunch included a light meat ragú pasta and enjoyed 4 wines produced by a 3 generation winery. As nerds, we enjoyed learning that this winery used stainless steel for white wine, barrels for red, and then occasionally concrete tanks!

      The next winery Pietraserena, Az. Agr. di Arrigoni included a tour of the facilities, where we learned that their wines are so specific that they refer to the exact field the grapes come from. We enjoyed bruschetta, more Italian cold cuts, and then grappa, which is a 40% shot.

      We snuck in a nap before dinner and enjoyed a delicious meal in a small family owned restaurant where the cat sat at the desk and managed payments.

      Teppich & San Gimignano

      Wenn du denkst es geht nicht mehr, geh in den OBI und kauf einen Teppich. Wir verpassten dem Wohnmobil einen neuen, anthrazitfarbenen Teppich und freuten uns, dass wir nun besser die Bodenklappen öffnen können und trotzdem warme Füsse haben. 🙂
      In neuem Glanz erstrahlt, fuhr uns unser treuer Reisegigant nach San Gimignano,
      Wir schlenderten durch das kleine Städtchen, welches uns sehr gefallen hat.
      Wir blieben aber nicht all zu lange, weil wir uns noch ein Platz für die Nacht suchten.      Read more

      Day 14

      Tuscany

      The weather is amazing as is the location. Truly spoilt in this beautiful place.

      In the morning we went and found a laundry and washed our ever growing bag of dirty clothes, bought some food and then headed off in the car for an adventure.

      We headed to Cecina which is on the coast going through amazing villages and fantastic scenery. Arrived at Cecina and it was not the quiet little town I remembered! Firstly we found an Italian Aldi store which was amazing. Found a couple of beach towels and bits and pieces, then headed down to the beach. Absolutely packed beaches with umbrellas as far as the eye can see.

      We then drove on down the coast to San Vincenzo where we were looking forward to a seafood pasta, but no luck we arrived too late and the kitchen was closed, so we shared a kebab instead!

      On we drove and that’s when the fun began! We only had offline Google maps that had trouble keeping track of where we were. We found a gorgeous village called Rocca Strada which had lots of housed built into the side of the rock with narrow windy streets. Best part was we were the only tourists there!

      On we drove heading for Siena, where we took so many wrong turns and one time ended up going under a bridge that we were supposed to be going over! No we didn’t kill each other but it was getting pretty tense and in the ended we skipped stopping in Siena and we both agreed never again without a online map!

      Drove on and muddled our way back to San Gimi where we stopped finally at a local Pizzeria as Pete was desperate for an Italian pizza and I had seafood risotto to make up for missing out during the day. We were happy to finally be at home and we will remember the adventure of getting lost in Tuscany for years to come! Pete finished the day with Limoncello!      Read more

      Elfte Etappe

      Die lange Suche am Vorabend hatte sich gelohnt - quasi direkt in San Gimignano hatte Tom einen versteckten Picknickplatz entdeckt, wo wir unser Zelt aufbauen konnten.
      Der Ort war dann wieder einmal traumhaft. Ein Einwohner den wir auf der Straße trafen, meinte noch zu uns wir hätten einen 6er im Lotto gezogen. So leer wären die Straßen sonst nie. Offensichtlich treten sich hier die Touristen normalerweise auf die Füße.Read more

      … durch schöne Landschaft, holprige Wege, Schlamm und Matsch… dem Regen sind wir zum Glück unter dem Vordach einer Bar ausgewichen und konnten da auch gleich den Befestigungs-Verlust des einen Gepäckträgers reparieren … und dann ging’s nach einem schlechten Eis auf der Burg Montereggioni nach Siena … erstmal zum Campingplatz und einer nahegelegenen Pizzeria.Read more

      Day 7_San Gimignano

      Nazadnje sva bila v San Gimignano leta 2019, v mesecu juliju. Poletje in vročina nama je očitno izbrisala spomin in takratno uživanje v ogledu mesteca. Zato sva rekla, da greva ponovno in vzameva več časa, da ga začutiva. Parkirava vozilo in ker je bil lep sončen dan, temperatura pa se je povzpela na 26°C, sva se malo spraševala, kako sva takrat "preživela". Stopiva na glavno ulico in zagledava prosto mizico v prvi vrste, prve gostilne 😝. Naročiva Aperol in dobiva poleg 3 različne jedi. Aperol odličen in hrana super, kar je bila dobra popotnica za začetek ogleda. Seveda sva šla čez glavne ulice, ampak sva večkrat zavila na stranske in videla razliko med polnimi in naenkrat praznimi ulicami, res fascinantno. Po večurnem potepanju je bil čas za trgovino in priprava kosila za Andrejo in Andreja. Nekaj pijače, nekaj jedače in dobra družba, je bil recept za planiranje naslednjega dne...Read more

      Day 8_Kolesarjenje

      April 30 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

      Današnji plan obsega kolesarsko pot od Castell de San Gimignano - Colle di Val D'Elsa - San Gimignano in nazaj. Krožna pot na kateri smo si želeli videti Toskansko pokrajino, voziti po belih cestah in vmes kaj popiti in samo uživati. Nekajkrat nam je Kamoot pokazal pot, ki je ni bilo, vodil na po enoslednih poteh in prav tako po belih cestah. Uživali smo vse do padca Tamara na blagem spustu, kjer je poškodovala menjalnik in je pot postala malo bolj zahtevna. Z njeno trmo in slabo voljo, smo pot nadaljevali do San Gimignana, kjer smo spili pijačo in sta fanta prijazno šla po avto in nazaj po punci. Vendar smola je zopet udarila, tokrat pa je padec čakal na Andreja, ki se je močno podrgnil po levem komolcu in levi nogi. Lahko svo nadaljevala, vendar je bil tudi konec kolesarjenja za danes. Tamara in Andrej sta še šla v trgovino, Andreja in Miro pa s kolesom nazaj. Kdo bo prej pri apartmaju, no moram priznat, da sta Tamara in Andrej bila hitrejša za kakšno minuto, ampak to je prineslo dodatnega smeha in pijačo v dobri družbi in naslednjih padavin.Read more

      Heute besuchen wir San Gimignano, die Stadt hatte einmal 75 Türme, heute noch 14. Die Stadt gefällt uns sehr mit ihrem natürlichen Mauerwerk. Wir besichtigen den Duomo und steigen auf den Turm mit herrlicher Aussicht. Wir essen leckeres Gelati vom Weltmeister des besten Eises.Read more
