Day 6 Mount Inari
25 de mayo, Japón ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C
DEUTSCH

ENGLISH
The day today begins with a massage. Daniel has (probably due to the mattress) severe tension in his back and has difficulty moving, while I had to take a hot bath at the hotel at 6 AM to feel better. After a while, we managed to pull ourselves together to start the day.
We have a lot planned today and need to take the train to Kyoto. Before that, we need to have breakfast, but again, it’s difficult to find something open this early. We settle for a café chain and get a rather European breakfast of buttered toast, scrambled eggs, and some salad. We are not quite satisfied, so we head to the convenience store around the corner to buy something for the road. We are not exactly sure what to buy, but we just give it a try 🤷♂️.
After about an hour of total travel time, we arrive at Mount Inari, the mountain with seemingly over 1000 Torii gates. Many companies buy a spot for a Torii gate here to ensure good luck and business success with the spirits.
However, the whole area is endlessly overrun by tourists. We want to climb to the summit but progress slowly under the gates due to the crowds.
After a while, a small side path leads off from the main path, and I suggest to Daniel that we take it for a few minutes of peace. It turns out that we unknowingly chose the longest and most difficult ascent. This bothers us less because we have the path almost entirely to ourselves. It partly leads through a bamboo forest and a nice little forest trail. We see many small shrines and a waterfall, which the tourists on the main path miss. Even a Nekomata shows itself to us in the forest. Towards the end, however, we realize why hardly anyone takes this path: a 15-minute really steep ascent leads to the summit. Really very steep... when the pulse monitor shows 190, we take a short break. Eventually, we make it to the summit and look around the shrine at the top. We don't stay long since we have more destinations today and start the descent with a short break at the viewpoint.Leer más
