    Chatuchak Weekend Market

    September 8, 2018 in Thailand ⋅ 🌧 26 °C

On our last day we decided to visit one of the worlds biggest markets in Bangkok - the Chatuchak weekend Market.
The market offers nearly everything from fashion to food and is definitely worth a visit. From Khao San Road it was quite easy to visit the market by bus for a very cheap price.Read more

    Scooter tour and sunset

    September 6, 2018 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Well, our last day on Khao Lak. After finally having changed our room to the villa yesterday - which was awesome with an own swing, an own pool and a big terrace, we started our last trip on Khao Lak. We decided to simply drive into the country and see where we arrive.

The first sign we found guided us to a waterfall. The road was quite hard to drive and reminded us a little bit to our Bromo Tour on Java.

After that we went on a raw road to Takua Pa and from there back to our Hotel where we enjoyed the sunset during a beach walk.

After that we went to our Villa and relaxed on the terrace, sitting in the Swing, enjoying wine, reflecting about the past few weeks and setting up a plan for the future. What an amazing evening.

    Next Stop: Khao Lak

    September 5, 2018 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

The last to days we had a lot of rain and some sun which we used to relax on the pool and to do some scooter trips into the south of Khao Lak.
We stopped at the White Sand beach for a drink in the sunset.
We have been to the Tsunami Museum which is very small but really touches your heart and is quite heavy to see and we have been to the Bang Niang Market on Wednesday. A great destination for shopping and getting some local dinner on my different booths.
Oh and one additional highlight was our dinner on Tuesday evening. We were a little bit hungry and very lazy. So we decided to get a noodle soup from the supermarket for 20 Baht and had instant noodles on our room. Awesome!

    Scooter trip in Phuket

    September 3, 2018 in Thailand ⋅ 🌧 27 °C

Finally being back in our Backpacking mood we booked a scooter in the morning and started a tour.

    Planned destinations where:
    - Ton Sai waterfall in the north
    - Bang pae Waterfall and Gibbon Reha center on the other side of the Forrest
    - the Big Buddha statue
    - possibly another viewpoint
    - some quiet beach for relaxing

After about 30 minutes we arrived at the first Waterfall. A small road guides you through the country side to the entrance where they will charge you 200 Baht per Person plus 20 Baht for the Scooter. This is really expensive for Thailand! We decided to pay since we had a long trip and walked up the trail guiding us to a natural pool in the river. The trail went on through the jungle, passing the river several times. Unfortunately the trail somehow vanished in the jungle, we were hungry, and after some searching and trying we decided to move on with the scooter instead of spending the afternoon in climbing up through the jungle.

Next stop was Bang Pae waterfall. Again they wanted to charge us 200 Baht. Per Person. Even for visiting the Reha Center. So we decided to leave again.

We went all the way down to the big Buddha statue, which is the highest in Thailand. From there we went on to Nai Harn Beach and enjoyed the sunset on the small but lovely beach.

On our way back we passed Rawai and stopped in the Nikita Restaurant. Great seat directly at the sea but quite expensive.

    Exploring Puket Downtown

    September 1, 2018 in Thailand ⋅ 🌙 28 °C

On a short trip we explored the inner city of Phuket downtown. The trip brought us to the Phuket Park - where they just build up some booths for a food festival - we were lucky again.
Next we walked into a shopping mall for lunch - very cheap food court!
Afterwards our trip took us to a road full of small beautiful stores in these typical Portuguese-Thai style houses, Phuket Town is famous for.
For dinner we spend some time on the food festival and did try a lot of different stuff including fried sea grass which was surprisingly good.

Last point on our list was the trip planning for our next few days which we did on the roof top bar of our Hotel - the Quip.

With the Bus to Phuket town

    September 1, 2018 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

After some relaxing days in the Thavorn Palm Beach Resort ( for a really cheap price ) we moved on with our Backpacker trip to Phuket.
After leaving the Hotel at 11:30 we moved to the main road and waited for the public bus. These old blue buses with an open, wooden passenger seating drive around every 30 minutes and you just have to wave you hand when they arrive.
Compared to other transportation options this is definitely the cheapest one for around 40 Baht to Phuket.

The bus arrived at Phuket Market and we pre booked our stay with booking.com in the Quip Hotel. Most probably the cheaper way is to ask in the hotel instead of using booking.com, but on the other hand, this is the most comfortable way.

    Amazing stay on Phuket

    August 29, 2018 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

During our stay in Siem Reap we where initially planning to move on to Phnom Phen. After checking all possible ways of transportation starting from Phnom Phen it felt like going down there would result in a dead end road:
Flights from there were way to expensive and bus transportation to Thailand would consume over one day. So we checked our possibilities from Siem Reap, simply booked the cheapest flight and we were lucky: the flight was to Phuket and it was even a non stop flight.

On Agoda we found an amazing offer for a really nice big Hotel ( not what we usually stay in ) and so we are here now, coming as a Backpacker, ended in a 5-Star Deluxe Double Bett Room with VIP Lounge Access, 4 Pools and a Sea View balcony.

Oh, and everyone keeps telling us we brought the sun since it was only raining the last few weeks. What a luck.

    Benteay Srei & Kbal Spean

    August 28, 2018 in Cambodia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

We started our tour quite early today at around 5 am heading to Angkor Wat for the sunrise. It was nice but probably not what you are expecting since it was completely cloudy due to the rainy season.

So we moved on to Benteay Srei. It is a really beautiful temple with a lot of very fine and impressive reliefs. A big difference compared to Angkor Wat and a must see in our eyes.

Afterwards we moved on to go to Kbal Spean which is basically a small river in the middle of the jungle having a lot of artfully carved stones in the riverbed. The walk up there takes a few minutes and calms you down completely - especially when arriving quite early and being the only ones on the rocky and steep path. Following the river it will also guide you to a waterfall and there where some people taking a shower. So when you go there, make sure to bring some swimming clothes for a cold refreshing shower under the waterfall. Unfortunately we did not.

The drive back to Siem Reap took us about 1,5 hours in our Tuc Tuc.

Trip to Angkor and Lake Tonle Sap

    August 27, 2018 in Cambodia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

After our one day in bed we felt fit enough to start a second tour today. We visited some more temples in the northern part of Angkor and afterwards we went down to lake Tonle Sap in order to take a boat tour. We were pretty surprised by the prices they wanted to charge us: 25$ per person. Since we found this price to high for a boat tour we told the guy at the ticket counter that we won‘t pay that much. After a few minutes they offered us another price of 20$. Still quite high but since we already spent some money for our trip down there we decided to agree.

The boat took us down the river through the village on the river and we had a short stop at a restaurant in the river where they offered us another boat tour with some old ladies for additional 5$ per person. We would have loved to do this tour but we where not willing to spend another 10$ ( especially since we only had 4 $ left ).
So we went on with our boat which took us to the lake. A pretty big lake where you can not see any border.

After that the boat took us back to the port. A tour of about 1 hour for 20$... still a pretty high price in our eyes when you know how much they do usually earn.

In general the difference between the standard price for local food and living compared to the touristic fees is too high in our eyes:
    Local food: 2 $
3-days ticket for Angkor Watt: 62$
    1 hour boat tour: 25$

Compared to Germany it would mean you have to pay 80€ for a 1 hour boat tour and 248€ for a 3 day ticket when calculating a standard food with around 8€. The span is just way too high.
