The British Navigation acts, the closing of western lands, the restricting of the colonial currency, the Quartering Act, the Stamp Act, and The Townshend Acts enacted by the British Parliament contributed to the revolution of colonists. The response of the British Parliament was the Intolerable Acts and the Quebec Act in 1774. In September of the same year, the First Continental Congress was held in Philadelphia. The Revolutionary War began in 1775. The second Continental Congress was held in May, 1775 in Philadelphia. In 1776, the United States declared independence. British and American troops fought near Boston, New York, Trenton, and other places. Anreise

      1 oktober 2022, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

      Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial

      11 oktober 2023, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Right next to the Roosevelt Memorial is the one for Martin Luther King Jr. An impressive stone of hope. Unfortunately, probably a struggle that will never be over.

      Frühstück: The Board & Brew
      Lunch: Hanks Oyster Bar
      Dinner: 7 Eleven

      War Memorials

      11 oktober 2023, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

And America is not only proud of its presidents, no also of the wars won and the fallen soldiers. For the Second World War, the Vietnam War, and the Korean War there are individual monuments.

      Lincoln Memorial & Reflecting Pool

      11 oktober 2023, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Arriving at the other end of the mall there was the Lincoln Memorial. Perched high on his chair, he looks over the entire city, the obelisk and its mirror image in the pool. One does not know which of these many presidential monuments is the most imposing. And somehow they all look almost the same: Columns, white marble, clever sayings and quotes, big and impressive. And then I ask myself, how does Donald Trump fit in here?

      Scooter time!

      3 september 2022, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

After walking 30k steps today in the heat and it being a 40 minute walk back to our hotel, we opt'd in to get a couple of scooters back.
Turns out the scooters cost over double what an uber would have been, took longer and we didn't even stop all the way at the hotel 😂
But we did get to see the White House from a different position, a bit clearer than what we saw it from yesterday.

      Washington D.C. 1

      2 januari 2023, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C
