    Ce sera très court aujourd'hui, les photos parlent d'elles-mêmes.

    Je suis allé au JR Tower Observatory T38 pour avoir une vue de Sapporo de nuit.

    C'est un gratte-ciel qui s'élève à 173m pour offrir une vue panoramique à 360° de Sapporo.

    Dans l'ascenseur qui mène au 38e étage, il y a une carte de Kyoto et une carte de Paris. Cela donne une estimation du périmètre que l'on pourrait observer depuis une telle hauteur dans ces villes.

    C'est quand même une sacrée coïncidence d'y retrouver Paris, vous ne trouvez pas ? 😁

    Une fois en haut, on a une vue imprenable, surtout la nuit et... même depuis les toilettes ! 🚽

    It will be very short today, the pictures speak for themselves.

    I went to JR Tower Observatory T38 to have a view of Sapporo by night.

    It is a skyscraper which rises to 173m and gives a 360° panoramic view of Sapporo.

    In the elevator that leads to the 38th floor, there is a map of Kyoto and a map of Paris. This gives an estimate of the perimeter that could be observed from such a height in these cities.

    It's quite a coincidence to find Paris there, don't you think? 😁

    Once on top, you have a breathtaking view, especially at night and... even from the toilet! 🚽    Les mer

    Guesthouse with coffee !

    C'est le moment de vous présenter la guesthouse que j'ai choisi pour la semaine. Comme pour les précédents logements, j'attends d'y avoir vécu suffisamment longtemps pour faire un retour complet.

    Cette fois, il s'agit d'une guesthouse un peu excentrée du centre ville, dans laquelle j'ai vécu en dortoir.

    En regardant les photos, vous verrez qu'elle ressemble très franchement à un café, et c'est justement la raison pour laquelle je l'ai choisie 😁

    En fait, l'étage inférieur est un véritable café, et le dortoir se situe à l'étage. J'ai eu de la chance, car j'ai tout le dortoir pour moi, sauf pour les 2 derniers jours. Par contre, le lit est vraiment dur, sans doute le seul point noir à noter 🤕

    Le café est génial : le gérant (Kawai-san) propose une carte de café très diversifiée, et il fait tout lui même. Comme c'était à la fois mon salon, et qu'en tant que locataire j'avais accès à tous les cafés à bas prix, j'ai pratiquement tout testé. En plus d'être super beaux, le goût est vraiment là !!

    Kawai-san choisit le niveau de torréfaction et le mode de préparation en fonction de ce qu'on commande. Il y a tout un assortiment de grains de différentes origines, torréfiés par ses soins avec une petites machines (à droite sur la photo)

    D'ailleurs, j'ai pu participer à un cours de torréfaction !!
    J'ai eu une explication en japonais de ce qu'il fallait connaître avant de passer à la pratique. J'ai d'abord observé un premier cycle, puis je me suis occupé tout seul du cycle suivant 💪

    C'était super fun à faire, et à la fin du cours, j'ai eu mon petit sachet de grains torréfiés. Je les testerai bientôt, avant qu'ils perdent en saveur ☺️

    Évidemment, j'ai profité du séjour pour récupérer un petit mot supplémentaire sur mon carnet !

    It's time to show you the guesthouse I chose for the week. As for the previous accommodations, I'm waiting to have lived there long enough to make a good feedback.

    This time, it's a guesthouse a little bit out of the city center, where I lived in a dormitory.

    If you look at the pictures, you'll see that it looks like a cafe, and that's precisely the reason why I chose it 😁

    In fact, the lower floor is an actual cafe, and the dorm is upstairs. I was lucky because I have the whole dorm to myself, except for the last 2 days. Only one downside, the bed is really hard 🤕

    The cafe itself is great: the manager (Kawai-san) proposes a very diversed menu of coffee, and he makes everything himself. Since it was my living room, and that I had access to all the coffees at a discounted price, I almost tried everything. Besides being aesthetically beautiful, the taste is real !

    Kawai-san chooses the roast level and preparation method depending on what you order. There is a large selection of beans from different origins, roasted by him with a small machine (on the right on the picture)

    By the way, I was able to participate to a roasting course !
    I had an explanation in Japanese of what I needed to know before going into practice. I started watching a first cycle, then I took care of the next one by myself 💪

    It was super fun to do, and by the end of the class, I had my little bag of roasted beans. I'll be testing them soon, before they lose their flavor ☺️

    Moai statues and Buddha head ?

    Petite excursion dans un coin assez peu connu, mais accessible en bus depuis Sapporo.

    C'est une sortie qui se fait en un peu plus d'une heure, mais qui m'a emmené de surprise en surprise !

    En descendant du bus, on arrive devant une grande porte protégée par quatre statues de gardiens. En regardant un peu plus attentivement au loin, on voit des statues ... Moaï ? 🗿

    D'abord quelques une, puis carrément une rangée entière, aux côté d'une statue assez insolite qui m'a rappelé un sphinx. Mais qu'est-ce qu'elles font là 😂

    Enfin, je suis arrivé devant une colline, sur laquelle pousse des lavandes. J'y suis allé trop tôt, donc elles n'avaient pas encore fleuri. Au centre de cette colline, on voit un petit bout qui dépasse, c'est le haut de la tête d'un Buddha.

    Lorsqu'on entre pour l'apercevoir de l'intérieur de la colline, nouvelle surprise: on le voit au loin, mais on ne peut le rejoindre en allant tout droit. En effet, un cours d'eau nous sépare de celui-ci, nous obligeant à faire un détour avant de le rejoindre.

    Je suis enfin arrivé jusqu'à lui, et là je me suis senti tout petit. La scène le rend encore plus imposant. Le ciel était nuageux ce jour là. En lui faisant face j'avais un ciel gris, et en faisant le tour pour le voir de dos, je voyais un ciel bleu. Très étrange 😱

    J'ai pris une petite glace au lait d'Hokkaido et à la lavande, faute d'en avoir vu aujourd'hui. C'était délicieux !

    J'y retournerai peut-être une seconde fois pour admirer la tête du Buddha entourée de lavandes.

    Small excursion in a rather unknown area, but accessible by bus from Sapporo.

    It takes a little more than an hour, but it was full or surprise, to say the least !

    When we get off the bus, we arrive in front of a big door protected by four statues of guards. By looking a little more attentively in the distance, we see statues ... Moaï ? 🗿

    At first some, then squarely a whole row, at the sides of a rather unusual statue which reminded me a sphinx. Why the hell are they here 😂

    Finally, I arrived in front of a hill, on which lavenders grow. I went there too early, so they had not bloomed yet. In the center of this hill, we see a small thing that comes from inside of the hill, it is the top of the head of a Buddha.

    When you enter to see it from the inside of the hill, another surprise: we see it, but we cannot reach it by going straight. Indeed, a stream separates us from it, forcing us to make a detour to reach it.

    I finally faced the Buddha, and there I felt very small. The scene makes it even more imposing. The sky was cloudy that day. Facing him I saw a gray sky, and when I went around to see him from behind, I saw a blue sky. So strange 😱

    I had an ice cream with Hokkaido milk, lavender flavored despite seeing any today. It was delicious !

    Maybe I will go back a second time to admire the Buddha's head surrounded by lavender.    Les mer

    Tōya lake

    On quitte la guesthouse et Sapporo pour la semaine, profitant d'un pass délivré par la compagnie de train JR.

    Ce pass me permet de voyager pendant 6 jours sur tout le réseau de train dans Hokkaido, c'est parti pour 6 jours d'excursions !!

    Premier arrêt : Tōya

    Je n'avais qu'une journée avant de reprendre le train, donc j'ai fait le check-in dès que possible, je me suis renseigné sur les environs et j'ai débuté l'exploration.

    Enfin, c'est ce que je croyais. J'ai été interpellé par un groupe de fermiers à quelques mètres de mon logement. Ils faisaient un barbecue, et m'on invité, comme ça 😁
    Ils ont partagé le barbecue avec moi, tout en discutant en japonais, et j'ai continué mon chemin.

    Ce qui est bien à Tōya c'est qu'il suffit de longer le lac pour en voir la plus grande partie, et justement mon logement était situé à une des deux extrémités,

    Le lac Tōya a été créé par l'éruption volcanique du Mont Usu il y a très longtemps. Au centre, on peut observer une île, par beau temps c'est vraiment superbe ☺️

    En chemin, j'ai croisé beaucoup de statues, ainsi que des bains de pieds (Ashiyu), car c'est aussi une région populaire pour ses onsens.

    Sur le chemin du retour, le soleil était en train de se coucher, j'ai trempé les pieds dans un Ashiyu pour apprécier le spectacle tout en me relaxant dans l'eau chaude. D'ailleurs, plus je me déplaçais sur la gauche du bain, plus ça devenait brûlant ! 🥵

    Dans le prochain post, on reparlera de Tōyu car je n'ai pas encore tout dit 🙊

    We leave the guesthouse and Sapporo for the week, taking advantage of a pass delivered by the JR train company.

    This pass allows me to travel during 6 days on all the network of train within Hokkaido. Here we go, 6 days of excursions !

    First stop : Tōya

    I only had only one day before taking the train for the next stop, so I checked in as soon as I could, looked out the area and started exploring.

    That's what I thought. I was called by a group of farmers a few meters from my place. They were enjoying a barbecue, and invited me, just like that 😁
    They shared the barbecue with me while chating in japanese, then I left to explore the area.

    The cool thing about Tōya is that you only have to walk along the lake to see most of it, and my accommodation was located at one of the two ends,

    Lake Tōya was created by the volcanic eruption of Mount Usu a very long time ago. In the center, you can see an island. When the weather is good it is really beautiful ☺️

    On the way, I came across a lot of statues, as well as foot baths (Ashiyu), as this is also a popular area for its onsens.

    On the way back, the sun was setting, I dipped my feet in an Ashiyu to enjoy the show while relaxing in the hot water. By the way, the more I moved to the left of the bath, the hotter it got! 🥵

    Tōya's long run fireworks festival

    Et oui, des feux d'artifices 😁

    J'ai eu la chance de venir à Tōya pendant la 38 édition du festival de feux d'artifices longue durée.
    En effet, il se déroule sur une très très longue durée: du 28 avril au 31 octobre 😱

    Pendant cette période, chaque soir où les conditions le permettent, des feux d'artifices lancées au dessus du lac depuis un bateau.

    Il est d'ailleurs possible de faire une croisière en bateau spécialement pour l'occasion, pour voir les feux d'artifices depuis la mer 🛳️

    Ce n'était malheureusement pas possible le soir où j'étais à Tōya, mais le spectacle a quand même été splendide.

    Yes, fireworks 😁

    I had the chance to come to Tōya during the 38th edition of the long run fireworks festival.
    Indeed, it takes place over a very very long period of time: from April 28 to October 31 😱

    During this period, every night when conditions allow it, fireworks are launched from a boat.

    Besides, it is possible to make a boat cruise especially for the occasion, to see the fireworks from the sea 🛳️

    This was unfortunately not possible the night I was in Tōya, but the show was still splendid.    Les mer

    2 days in Hakodate

    Et voici Hakodate !
    C'est une ville assez grande, principalement divisée en trois zones.

    On peut la parcourir à pied, en bus, ou en street car (le tram). J'ai fait une combinaison trajet à pied et tram, car je voulais voir l'intérieur de ces trams qui sont plutôt anciens (on les entend venir de loin 😂)

    Le symbole de Hakodate, c'est le Goryokaku (fort à cinq coins) , une forteresse qui date de 1866. Personnellement, en voyant les photos j'ai pensé que c'était une architecture très récente, mais j'ai été étonné par son histoire en visitant l'observatoire.

    J'ai également visité l'intérieur, qui ressemble à un parc au sein d'une forteresse. Au centre il y a le bureau du gouvernement d'Hakodate de l'époque. Celui-ci a été restauré, et l'intérieur est vraiment intéressant, le personnel qui s'occupe de l'entretien était très accueillant ☺️

    And here is Hakodate !
    It is a rather large city, mainly divided into three areas.

    You can go visit it by foot, bus, or by streetcar. I did a combination of walking and streetcar, because I wanted to see the inside of these streetcars which are rather old (you can hear them coming from afar😂)

    The symbol of Hakodate is the Goryokaku (five-point fort), a fortress dating from 1866. Personally, when I saw the pictures I thought it was a very recent architecture, but I was surprised by its history when I visited the observatory.

    I also visited the interior, which looks like a park within a fortress. In the center there is the Hakodate government office of that time. This one has been restored, and the interior is really interesting, the staff whose in charge of the maintenance was very welcoming ☺️

    今日は、函館について。

    ２日は少し短いだけど、いろんな所を見た。

    タワーから、五稜郭(ごりょうかく)はすごかった。
    今度は夜の中な、五稜郭を見たい。

    公園の近くはポケモンの絵画を見つけた。
    日本語で名前を知らない けど、「トゲキッス」と書いてある。ポケモンの名前かもしれない！

    Noboribetsu Onsen !

    Cette fois on va parler Oni !! 👹

    Il s'agit d'une créature du folklore japonais, une sorte d'ogre cornu, souvent représenté avec une massue.

    Ce qui m'intéresse à Noboribetsu, c'est surtout son village onsen, le plus connu dans tout Hokkaido. Il est spécial, car on y trouve des eaux aux propriétés très variés.

    Je ne vous le cache pas, mes deux jours là bas se sont passés sous la pluie, donc je n'ai pas pu faire tout ce que j'espérais. Heureusement, le village est relativement petit, donc j'ai pu en parcourir une bonne partie, et voir les nombreuses statues de Oni, symbole de Noboribetsu Onsen.

    J'ai été très chanceux, car j'ai pu observer un geyser au calme, juste avant qu'il s'anime et fume dans tous les sens !!

    À Noboribetsu il y a aussi un spectacle qui a lieu seulement quelques fois par jour: une poupée Karakuri qui s'anime et se transforme. C'est assez sympa à voir, même si c'est très court.

    Je n'ai malheureusement pas pu faire la vallée de l'enfer Jigokudani, alors que c'est un des endroits les plus connus et impressionnants (peut-être une prochaine fois !)

    Avant de rentrer, je suis allé dans un hôtel en tant que visiteur, pour profiter de ses nombreux bains. C'était incroyable, il y en avait de toutes les sortes, de toutes les températures (même froid !) et au final j'ai pu voir un morceau de la vallée de l'enfer depuis une baie vitrée, tout en étant dans le bain ☺️

    Le meilleur onsen que j'ai pu faire jusque là !

    Let's talk about Oni!!! 👹

    This is a creature from Japanese folklore, a kind of horned ogre, often represented carrying a club.

    I had an interest in Noboribetsu because of its onsen village, the most famous in all Hokkaido. It is special, because there are waters with various properties.

    I won't lie, my two days there were under the rain, so I couldn't do everything I was hoping for. Fortunately, the village is relatively small, so I was able to go through a good part of it, and to see the numerous statues of Oni, symbol of Noboribetsu Onsen.

    I was very lucky, because I could see a geyser in "quiet" mode, just before it comes to life and smokes like crazy !

    In Noboribetsu there is also a show that takes place only a few times a day: a Karakuri doll that comes to life and transforms. It is quite nice to see, even if it is very short.

    Unfortunately I couldn't do the Jigokudani hell valley, although it is one of the most famous and impressive places (maybe next time!)

    Before going back, I went to a hotel as a visitor, to enjoy its many baths. It was amazing, there were all kinds of waters, with various temperatures (even cold !) and in the end I could see a piece of the Jigokudani hell valley from a bay window, while enjoying the bath at the same time ☺️

    The best onsen I've done so far!

    今日は登別(のぼりべつ)を紹介する！

    「登別温泉」という場所興味がある。なんで？
    北海道の中で一番有名な温泉場所なんだよ

    ９つの水種類があるから、温泉によって水の色や水の匂いなど違っている。最高だね！♨☺️♨

    バスでその場所に行くのは簡単。

    登別温泉バス乗り場に着いたところ沢山の鬼が見える。
    もちろん本物鬼じゃない、ただの像だよ。でも、なんか、夜には、煙の中で鬼を見ると、「その鬼生きている」と思ってた。変でしょう？ 😅

    ちなみに、僕の猫は「オニ」と名前をつけた。オニというのは２つの意味だ。
    １.　子猫のとき、おにぎりの大きさまたいだった 🍙
    ２. 　遊びながら、物を壊したから鬼見たいだ 👹

    その名前どう思う？😅

    Otaru and its canal

    J'ai beaucoup aimé Otaru !

    C'est une ville proche de Sapporo contrairement aux autres que j'ai pu faire dans la semaine.

    Otaru est connue pour son canal et son artisanat du verre, mais il y a quelques autres surprises aussi, il m'a suffit de marcher un peu dans les environs pour les découvrir ☺️

    Beaucoup de maisons et bâtiments d'époque ont été conservés, j'ai par exemple vu un ancien quartier des finances. Il y a aussi une petite ruelle avec de vieux livres et affiches de cinéma. Ça donne vraiment plusieurs aspects à Otaru, c'est très sympa.

    À la fin de la première journée, je me suis arrêté chez un caviste qui avait son propre restaurant franco-italien, et j'ai goûté le vin d'Otaru 🍷

    Grosse surprise au réveil, le staff de la guesthouse où je séjournais pour la nuit m'avait laissé un petit cadeau d'anniversaire, juste devant la porte de ma chambre 🎁
    J'ai été très touché : je restais à peine une journée, et je n'avait rien dit concernant mon anniversaire, ils ont trouvé ça d'eux même !

    Avant de reprendre le train, je suis allé dans la rue Sakaimachi, une rue assez vivante en journée car il y a pleins de petits restaurants, boutiques ainsi que des pâtisseries réputées.

    J'y ai trouvé une boutique de boîtes à musique, et je n'ai pas pu m'empêcher d'en prendre une. De nombreuses mélodies sont proposées (Ghibli, JPop, classique) et on peut même passer commande pour un morceau spécifique sélectionné dans un catalogue. Un peu à la manière d'un Karaoké 🎤

    Pour faciliter le transport, j'ai pris un modèle avec une peluche, mais il y en a de toutes les tailles et on voit très bien le mécanisme sur les autres modèles.

    I really liked Otaru!

    It's a city close to Sapporo unlike the others I went to during the week.

    Otaru is known for its canal and glass crafts, but there are some other surprises too, all I needed to discover them was to walk a bit ☺️

    Many houses and buildings have been preserved as they were before, for example I saw an old financial district. There is also a small alley with old books and movie posters. It really gives many different faces to Otaru, it's really nice.

    At the end of the first day, I stopped at a wine shop that had its own French-Italian restaurant, and tasted Otaru wine 🍷

    When I woke up in the morning, big surprise. The staff of the guesthouse where I was staying for the night had left me a little birthday present, right in front of my room door 🎁
    I was very moved: I was a very short stay, and I didn't even tell about my birthday, they figure it out on their own !

    Before getting back on the train, I went to Sakaimachi street, it's quite lively during the day because there are lots of small restaurants, stores and also famous pastry shops.

    I found a music box store there, and I couldn't help but take one. Many melodies are available (Ghibli, JPop, classical) and you can even order a specific one selected from a catalog. Like in a Karaoke 🎤

    For ease of transport, I took a model inside a plush, but there are all kinds and sizes you can choose from, and you often see the mechanism on the other models.

    すごくいい町だよ！

    ゲストハウスもとても良かった！部屋は広くて、良く眠れた。それに、何も言わずにスタフから誕生日プレゼントをもらった🎁☺️
    優し過ぎると思った？信じられなかった！

    小樽には古い鉄道がある。ここは人々は散歩していました。いいデートのスポットだと思う😸

    電車に乗る前に、面白い店を見つけた。オルゴールの店だったからついに一つをかった。小さい豚のぬいぐるみ😁 可愛いでしょう？

    First contact with hospital

    Peu après être revenu à Sapporo, j'ai eu mes premiers soucis de santé sur le sol japonais.

    Sans entrer dans les détails, j'avais mal à l'oreille et tout semblait indiquer une otite. Le genre de chose que l'on a pas envie de laisser en l'état sans consulter un professionnel.

    J'ai fait quelques recherches pour savoir où aller.

    Au Japon, le système médical est différent. Lorsqu'on se sent mal, on peut soit consulter dans un hôpital (quel que soit le domaine) ou bien une clinique (spécialisée dans un domaine).

    Les cliniques sont souvent plus petites et parfois limitées en équipement, les hôpitaux offrent plus de services et semblent aussi plus faciles d'accès aux étrangers.
    J'ai cherché à Sapporo un hôpital, et on m'en a recommandé un fournissant des services de traduction.

    En France, il y a souvent beaucoup d'attente dans les hôpitaux, donc je suis allé le plus tôt possible dans la matinée pour consulter. À ma grande surprise, ça s'est très bien passé malgré la nécessité de parler un peu japonais, et en moins de 2 heures j'avais créé mon dossier, eu ma consultation, payé et reçu tous mes médicaments sur place.

    D'ailleurs c'est assez surprenant car les médicaments sont fournis dans des petits sachets, sans boîte d'emballage comme en France. C'est bien mieux dosé, on a la quantité exacte de ce que l'on doit prendre, ainsi que toutes les instructions.

    Comme vous pouvez le voir sur la photo, il y a un peu de signalisation en anglais, mais les formulaires sont en japonais, il vaut mieux avoir avec soit une application pour déchiffrer les Kanjis !

    Heureusement, une interprète parlant anglais m'a aidé tout au long de mon passage à l'hôpital. Elle m'a aidé à créer mon dossier, expliqué mes symptômes, traduit ce que disait le docteur (même si j'en comprenais une partie, les termes médicaux sont difficiles) et aidé pour toutes les étapes à suivre dans l'hôpital.

    Même au niveau des coûts j'ai été surpris : j'ai payé l'équivalent de 8€ au total, médicaments compris. L'assurance maladie japonaise couvre environ 70% mais c'est quand même très abordable pour une première fois.

    Je vous tiendrais au courant si j'ai du nouveau sur le sujet, je trouve qu'il y a assez peu d'informations sur le système médical japonais.

    Shortly after I came back to Sapporo, I had my first health issues in Japan.

    Without going into details, I had an earache and everything seemed to indicate an ear infection. The kind of thing you don't want to leave as it is without consulting a professional.

    I did some research to know where to go.

    In Japan, the medical system is different from France. When you feel bad, you can either go to the hospital (any medical field) or to a clinic (specialized in a particular field).

    Clinics are often smaller and sometimes limited in term of equipments, hospitals offer more services and also seem to be more accessible to foreigners.
    I looked for a hospital in Sapporo, and was recommended one that provided translation services.

    In France, there are often long waits in hospitals, so I went as early as possible in the morning to see a professional for my ear infection. To my surprise, it went very well despite the need to speak a little Japanese, and in less than 2 hours I had created my medical file, had my consultation, paid, and received all the medicines I needed directly from the hospital.

    It is quite surprising because the medicines are provided in small bags, not in packages like in France. It is much better quantified, you receive the exact quantity of what you have to take, as well as all the instructions.q

    As you can see on the picture, there is some signage in English, but the forms are in Japanese, so it's better to have with you an application to help you understand the Kanjis !

    Fortunately, an English speaking interpreter helped me throughout my time at the hospital. She helped me create my file, explained my symptoms, translated what the doctor was saying (even though I understood some of it, medical terms are difficult) and helped me following all the steps in the hospital.

    Even the costs were surprising: I paid the equivalent of 8€ in total, including medicines. Japanese health insurance covers about 70% but it's still very affordable for a first time.

    I will keep you posted if I have more news on the subject, I find that there is not much information on the Japanese medical system.

    De retour à Sapporo donc, le 30 juin était le dernier jour à l'hôtel, avant d'intégrer ma nouvelle Sharehouse à Sapporo.

    En fait, je ne pouvais emménagé dans la Sharehouse en cours de mois, donc j'ai pris quelques jours à l'hôtel. L'hôtel c'est confortable, mais on ne rencontre pas facilement de gens à qui parler. En Sharehouse ou Guesthouse c'est plus facile, et c'est aussi moins cher 😁

    Pour continuer à progresser en japonais il faut continuer à travailler un peu chaque jour (pas de souci de ce côté) mais aussi pratiquer en parlant ou en écrivant. C'est pour ça que j'ai commencé à écrire un peu en japonais dans mes articles Findpenguins.

    Je me suis dit que ce serait bien de prendre quelques cours de japonais auprès de groupes ou associations de Sapporo.

    Il y avait un évènement au parc Odori (celui où j'avais vu le festival Yosakoi). Une exposition florale, composé de plusieurs petites scènes, chacune sur un thème choisi. Je vous ai mis une petite sélection, dites moi dans les commentaires laquelle vous préférez ☺️

    Comme vous pouvez le voir, j'essaie aussi de trouver de bonnes adresses de "parfait" (ces desserts constitués de multiples couches). Je vous en partagerais probablement dans les posts qui suivront, il y a du spectaculaire 🎆

    June 30th was the last day at the hotel, before moving into my new Sharehouse in Sapporo.

    In fact, I couldn't move in the Sharehouse in the middle of the month, so I took a few days in the hotel. While hotel is comfortable, you don't easily meet people to talk to. In Sharehouse or Guesthouse it's easier, and it's also cheaper 😁

    To keep improving in Japanese I have to keep working a little bit every day (no worries on that part) but also practice by speaking or writing. That's why I started to write a bit in Japanese in my Findpenguins articles.

    I thought it may be a good thing to take some Japanese lessons from groups or associations in Sapporo.

    There was an event in Odori park (the one where I saw the Yosakoi festival). A flower show, composed of several small scenes, each on a chosen subject. I selected a few of them, tell me in the comment section which one is your favorite ☺️

    As you can see, I'm also trying to find some good "parfait" (those desserts made up of multiple layers) places. I'll probably share some of them with you in later posts, there's some spectacular ones 🎆

    L'adresse de référence pour un parfait véritablement parfait.
    Enfin en tout cas, c'est mon adresse favorite pour l'instant à Hokkaido.

    Si vous passez à Sapporo, cherchez "Parfaiteria PAL" ou sa petite mascotte qui ressemble à un tamanoir. Elle s'appelle Baku, je pense que c'est une référence au Yokaï, mais je ne suis pas expert en la matière 😅

    Habituellement les cafés et salons de thé sont ouverts en journée. Mais cette adresse est un peu différente, car elle n'ouvre que de 18:00 à 00:00 !

    Pourquoi ? Parce que le créateur voulais pouvoir apprécier un parfait pour finir la soirée

    Au Japon, on appelle Nomikai le fait de sortir après le travail pour aller manger (et surtout boire) avec les collègues de travail. En général on s'installe dans des bistrots (Izakaya) pour apprécier un verre dans une ambiance plus détendue.

    Parfaiteria suit ce principe, mais avec l'idée d'apprécier un parfait après le travail plutôt que des brochettes ou du poisson. De préférence avec un verre à côté (alcoolisé ou non) .

    J'ai vraiment aimé la dégustation, le parfait n'était pas trop sucré. Très équilibré et très beau, je sentais les goûts changer en progressant d'étage en étage 😋

    Attendez vous à en voir d'autres bientôt parce que tous les autres parfaits de la carte me faisaient envie, et il y en a aussi qui sont ajoutés temporairement.

    The best address for a truly perfect "parfait".
    At least, this is my favorite address in Hokkaido for the moment.

    If you are in Sapporo, look for "Parfaiteria PAL" or its little mascot that looks like an anteater. Its name is Baku, I think it's a reference to the Yokai, but I'm not an expert on the subject 😅

    Usually cafes and tea shops are open during the day. But this one is a bit different, as it only opens from 18:00 to 00:00!

    Why? Because its creator wanted it to be a place where you can enjoy a parfait during the evening.

    In Japan, we call Nomikai the fact of going out after work to eat (and especially drink) with colleagues. In general, it takes place in bistros (Izakaya) to enjoy a drink in a more relaxed atmosphere.

    Parfaiteria follows this principle, but with the idea of enjoying a parfait after work rather than skewers or fish. Preferably with a drink (alcoholic or not).

    I really enjoyed the meal, the parfait was not too sweet. Very balanced and beautiful, I could feel the tastes change as I progressed from the top to the very bottom😋

    Expect to see more soon because every other parfaits on the menu got my interest and there are also some temporarily parfait, added for a limited time.

    注文は少し時間がかかるけど、まじできれいだよ！😲

    Il est temps de vous présenter un peu ma nouvelle Sharehouse, située à une quinzaine de minutes du parc Odori.

    Ma chambre est au 2e étage. Elle est assez spacieuse, bien éclairée, avec un petit réfrigérateur et un bureau.

    Pour les parties communes il y a une cuisine, un grand salon avec bureaux, canapé et TV. Et aussi un autre salon plus petit à côté de l'entrée.

    Il y a aussi une salle d'étude où l'on peut travailler dans le calme. Enfin, travailler ou simplement lire ! 🤓
    Il y a pas mal de tomes du manga détective Conan à disposition.

    Contrairement à moi, beaucoup de résidents sont étudiants ou travaillent, donc c'est assez désert en journée.

    Même si l'ambiance est très différente comparée à Tokyo, j'aime bien le côté tranquille de celle-ci. Lorsque j'ai eu une grosse journée ou bien que j'ai simplement besoin de repos, j'y retourne pour simplement m'assoir quelque part, préparer un café et me détendre ☕😌

    Quelques news sur mon otite.
    Je suis rapidement retourné à l'hôpital, car je n'avais plus de médicaments et ma deuxième oreille présentait les mêmes symptômes 🤕
    J'ai retrouvé l'interprète qui m'avait aidé, et cette fois les examens ont été bien plus poussés : le médecin à tout nettoyé, regardé mes deux oreilles et ma gorge avec de petites caméras. J'ai aussi eu des tests auditifs avant qu'il établisse un diagnostic.

    Pour que ça se soigne au mieux, j'ai eu une petite incision du tympan (j'avais eu la même chose en France) et un traitement plus long et plus puissant.
    Une dernière consultation est prévue pour vérifier que tout va bien ☑️

    C'était une nouvelle fois rapide, efficace, et pas cher même avec tous ces examens et l'opération. J'ai appris que c'était le cas pour les établissements publics mais que de nombreux établissements étaient privés et n'acceptent pas la carte d'assurance maladie 🤨

    Dans un journal, j'ai trouvé des groupes d'études de japonais. Je vais probablement m'inscrire à quelques uns pour pratiquer mon japonais, et aussi pour rencontrer quelques personnes.

    J'ai un peu de retard ces derniers temps sur mes posts, donc je vais essayer de réduire l'écart pour avoir seulement quelques jours de décalage avec la réalité.

    It's time to tell you about my new Sharehouse, located about 15 minutes away from Odori Park.

    My room is on the 3F. It is quite spacious, well lit, with a small refrigerator and a desk.

    As for the common areas: there is a kitchen, a large living room with a desk, a sofa and a TV. There is also a smaller living room near the entrance.

    I quickly went back to the hospital, as I was out of medication and my second ear was showing the same symptoms 🤕
    The interpreter who helped me last was again with me, and this time the examinations were much more thorough: the doctor cleaned everything, looked at both my ears and my throat with small cameras. I also had hearing tests before he made a diagnosis.

    In order to get the best treatment, I had a small incision of the eardrum (I had the same thing in France) and a longer and more powerful treatment.
    Another consultation is scheduled to make sure everything is okay ☑️

    It was again quick, effective, and not expensive despite all those tests and the surgery. I learned that this is the case for public facilities but many facilities are private and do not accept the health insurance card 🤨

    Du 09 au 12, je vais faire un aller-retour à Tokyo ✈️🗼

    En fait, c'était prévu depuis un moment, et j'avais réservé mon avion pour aller voir un ami dont c'était l'anniversaire, ainsi que d'autres amis, tous rencontrés à l'école GenkiJACS (où j'ai étudié 2 semaines).

    J'avais promis de venir le voir pour l'occasion, et il m'avait très gentiment proposé de passer quelques jours chez lui.

    Malheureusement, le coronavirus a de nouveau frappé, et le pauvre l'a attrapé juste avant le jour J...😱

    J'avais choisi un vol low cost, donc je ne pouvais rien modifier ni annuler, donc j'ai choisi de simplement m'adapter et trouver un logement simple mais pratique.

    C'est dommage, mais Tokyo reste une destination facilement accessible, donc je pourrais y repasser dans de meilleures conditions.

    Avant de partir, je suis repassé à la Parfaiteria, ils avaient un nouveau parfait "chapeau de paille", vraiment magnifique et délicieux. 🤯

    Ahhh, ça fait bizarre de revenir à Tokyo Narita !

    J'avais l'impression d'arriver une 2e fois depuis la France... Sauf que cette fois, pas de contrôles interminables pour le COVID 😁 Pas non plus besoin d'attendre mon bagage, j'avais juste pris un sac à dos.

    Une fois installé dans ma guesthouse, j'ai passé un peu de temps avec des amis, et je me suis promené à Akihabara, un quartier assez connu pour son côté très manga/animé.

    C'est un quartier que j'avais déjà exploré lors de mes précédents voyages, à la recherche de souvenirs à rapporter en France. J'avais un petit défi en tête 😸

    Je ne sais pas si vous connaissez les Gotochi Cards. Ce sont des sortes de cartes aux formats très variés, et leur particularité est qu'elles représentent chacune une préfecture du Japon. Une Gotochi Card est uniquement disponible dans les bureaux de poste de la préfecture qu'elle représente. En venant au Japon cette année, j'avais en tête de me mettre à la recherche de ces Gotochi Cards, sauf que... c'est fini. Le système a pris fin pendant la pandémie de Coronavirus (je ne sais pas trop pour quelle raison)

    Du coup, pour garder ce côté collection et recherche de la perle rare, je me lance dans la chasse aux ... Gatchapons ! Autrement appelé Gatcha. Ce sont de petites machines à pièces que l'on trouve partout au Japon. On met entre 100 et 500 yens en général, on tourne une petite manette, et une boule en sort avec quelque chose à l'intérieur. Sur chaque machine, on voit quels lots on peut tirer.

    Oui, on en a en France, mais au Japon on trouve vraiment de tout et n'importe quoi, et c'est ça qui m'intéresse ! Et Akihabara est justement l'endroit parfait pour chercher des perles !

    Je vous partage quelques Gatchapons étranges que j'ai trouvé, et celui que j'ai pris, je m'excuse par avance pour la qualité des photos !

    Ahhh, it's strange to be back in Tokyo Narita!

    I felt like I was arriving a 2nd time from France... Except this time, no endless checks for COVID 😁 No need to wait for my luggage either as I just traveled with a backpack.

    Once settled in my guesthouse, I spent some time with friends, and went for a walk in Akihabara, a district quite known for its manga/anime culture.

    It's a district I had already explored during my previous trips, looking for souvenirs to bring back to France. I had a little challenge in mind 😸

    I don't know if you know Gotochi Cards. They are kind of cards of various shapes, their particularity is that they each represent a prefecture of Japan. A Gotochi Card is only available in the post offices of the prefecture it represents. When I came to Japan this year, I had in mind to look for these Gotochi Cards, except that... it's over. The system ended during the Coronavirus pandemic (I'm not sure why)

    So, in order to keep this collection spirit and search something in particular, I'm going to hunt for ... Gatchapons ! Also known as Gatcha. These are small coin machines that can be found everywhere in Japan. You insert between 100 and 500 yens in general, you turn a small handle, and a ball comes out with something inside. On each machine, you can see which prizes you can get.

    Yes, we have them in France, but in Japan you can find anything and everything, and that's what got my interest ! Besides, Akihabara is the perfect place to look for these kind of treasures !

    懐かしくて…変な感じです。今回フランスからではないけど似ている。

    秋葉(あきはばら)のゲストハウス選んだから、友達に会ってからそこに散歩した。

    秋葉で大きなパンケーキを食べてアイスコーヒーをのんだ。最高だった！☕

    最近、面白いガチャポンを探すのを好き。ご当地カードを買いたいけどもうできません。その代わりにガチャポンを集め始めた。
    安くて沢山の種類あるよね。例えば、「ユ麺」というフィギュアを受け取った。それは人間(human)と麺のキャラクター。ラーメンの奴とかそばの奴…写真を見ると分かると思う。

    Comme la période de floraison des lavandes avait commencé, j'ai profité d'une journée et demi sans pluie pour visiter Furano et Biei.

    On commence par Furano, que j'ai fait le premier jour, mais aussi le 2e jour, avec une météo plutôt pluvieuse sur la fin.

    Les deux villes sont assez proche l'une de l'autre, et en cette période un "Lavender Express" permet de rejoindre la station Naka-Furano (près des champs de lavande) en seulement 2 heures depuis Sapporo.

    Manque de bol, j'ai raté mon train de quelques minutes (la gare de Sapporo peut parfois vous jouer de sales tours), et j'ai dû prendre un autre train qui m'a d'abord amené à Biei.

    Il y a divers moyens de rejoindre les champs de lavande de la ferme Tomita, mais j'ai choisi le plus relaxant : le train Norokko.
    C'est un train assez lent qui a la particularité d'avoir des fenêtres sans vitres, ce qui permet d'admirer les champs sur le trajet, et de les sentir, les cheveux au vent 😎

    Les champs de lavande sont vraiment magnifiques, et même si il y a beaucoup de monde, c'est vraiment agréable de se promener comme ça au milieu des champs.

    Sur place, j'ai aussi goûté plusieurs spécialités locales: une glace à la lavande, et un "melon cream pan"
    Si vous connaissez le "melon pan" (pain melon) vous savez peut-être qu'en fait le mot melon renvoit uniquement à la forme, et que le pain n'a pas du tout le goût de melon.
    Dans cette ferme on cultive le melon, et le melon pan avait donc à l'intérieur une crème pâtissière au melon 😋

    D'ailleurs, au Japon les prix des melons peuvent atteindre des sommets. Certes ils sont plus beaucoup gros qu'en France, mais on était en moyenne à 3500 yen (~30€) le melon 🍈

    Le 2e jour, je suis allé à Naka Furano mais cette fois j'ai pris un télésiège, comme dans une station de ski, pour voir les champs depuis les hauteurs. Même s'il commençait à pleuvoir, c'était très sympa comme expérience ☺️

    As the flowering period of lavender had already started, I took a day and a half to visit Furano and Biei while it was not raining.

    This post will focus on Furano, which I saw on both the first and second day, with a rather rainy weather at the end.

    The two cities are quite close to each other, and in this period a "Lavender Express" allows to reach the Naka-Furano station (near the lavender fields) in only 2 hours from Sapporo.

    Unfortunately, I missed my train by a few minutes (Sapporo station can sometimes play dirty tricks on you), and I had to take another train which led me to Biei first.

    There are various ways to reach the lavender fields of Tomita farm, I chose the most relaxing one: the Norokko train.
    It's a rather slow train that is unique because it has windows without glass, which allows you to admire the fields on the way, to smell them, as well as feeling the wind 😎

    The lavender fields are beautiful, and even if there are a lot of people, it's really nice to walk in the middle of the fields.

    I also tried local specialties: a lavender ice cream, and a "melon cream pan."
    If you know the "melon pan" you may know that the word melon refers only to the shape, and that the bread does not taste like melon at all.
    On this farm they grow melon, so the melon pan had a melon custard cream inside 😋

    By the way, in Japan the prices of melons can really reach high prices. They are much bigger than in France, but the melons I saw were on average at 3500 yen (~30€) for a single melon 🍈

    The 2nd day, I went to Naka Furano but this time I took a chairlift, like in a ski resort, to see the fields from the heights. Even though it was starting to rain, it was a very nice experience ☺️

    J'ai passé au final assez peu de temps à Biei.

    Le premier jour, j'étais arrivé à Biei sans vraiment l'avoir voulu (j'avais raté le train pour Furano) et j'étais assez pressé car je voulais aller voir les champs de lavande tant qu'il faisait beau.

    J'ai fait un petit arrêt mangé un hamburger dans un petit restaurant de hamburger. Les burgers, eux n'étaient pas petits 😂

    Pendant la demi-heure qu'il me restait avant le prochain train, j'ai visité un peu les environs et je suis tombé sur une maison avec des décorations dans tous les coins ! Il y en avait partout ! 😱

    Puis, je suis passé par un temple, et j'ai pris le Norokko pour Furano (voir post précédent)

    Le second jour, je suis allé voir l'étang bleu Shirogane (Shirogane Aoi ike), un spot assez touristique.

    C'est très rapide à visiter, mais cet étang a vraiment un bleu très intrigant.

    L'étang a été créé artificiellement à des fins de protection contre les coulées d'un volcan (le Mont Tokachi). Sa couleur est due à l'eau des chutes Shirahige, qui se charge d'aluminium au contact de la falaise. L'aluminium reflètent les rayons du soleil et donne à l'eau ce bleu si particulier.

    Même avec un temps très nuageux, ça valait le coup de s'y arrêter un moment.

    In fact, I didn't spend much time in Biei.

    The first day, I arrived in Biei but it wasn't really.on purpose (I missed the train to Furano). I was in a hurry because I wanted to see the lavender fields while the weather was good.

    I made a quick stop to eat in a small hamburger restaurant. The burgers themselves were not small ar all😂

    In the half hour I had left before my next train, I explored a bit thé surroundings and came across a house with many many objects dispatched everywhere as decoration ! Everywhere 😱

    Then, I went by a temple, and I took the Norokko to Furano (see previous post)

    On the second day, I went back to Biei to see the Shirogane blue pond (Shirogane Aoi ike), a rather touristy spot.

    It is very quick to visit, but this pond has a very intriguing blue color.

    The pond was created artificially for protection against the volcanic mud of a volcano (Mount Tokachi). Its color is due to the water of Shirahige Falls, which is mixed with aluminum from the cliff it goes through. The aluminum reflects the sun's rays and gives the water this particular blue color.

    Even with the cloudy weather I had, it was worth it to stop there.

    Jozankei Onsen !

    Cette fois, petite excursion express à Jozankei, accessible en bus depuis Sapporo.

    Ce coin est réputé pour ses sources chaudes, mais aussi pour son symbole, le Kappa !

    Il s'agit d'un Yokaï (créature surnaturelle du folklore japonais) aux airs de tortue, ayant un bec et surtout un petit plateau rempli d'eau sur la tête. Dans cette ville la mascotte est plutôt mignonne ou rigolote, mais l'histoire du Yokaï est plus sombre qu'il n'y paraît, je vous conseille d'y jeter un oeil 😉

    A Jozankei, on trouve des statuettes de Kappa dispersées un peu partout, j'ai même récupéré une carte à l'Office de tourisme pour toutes les dénicher 😁

    J'ai fait le tour des coins intéressant tout en photographiant les petits (et plus gros) Kappa, et je suis tombé sur un endroit génial pour une pause goûter / onsen.

    En fait, il s'agit d'un salon de thé avec à l'extérieur de nombreux bains de pieds. Ici, tout est fait pour se relaxer: on vous fournit fauteuils, coussin, plaids et même un chapeau de paille pour baigner ses pieds dans les meilleurs conditions ☺️

    Après ça, je me suis installé à l'intérieur, pour prendre le thé, accompagné de petits gâteaux.

    Les gens que j'ai croisé là bas semblaient pouvoir y passer des heures, et je suis bien d'accord. Malheureusement je n'avais pas tout ce temps, et j'ai dû écourter pour prendre mon bus dans les temps.

    J'avais aussi repéré un onsen, mais je n'ai pas eu l'occasion de tester. Tant pis 😅

    Pourrez vous trouver le nombre exact de Kappa sur mes photos ? Dites moi aussi lequel est votre préféré, et pourquoi 🙏

    This time, quick trip to Jozankei, accessible by bus from Sapporo.

    This area is famous for its hot springs, but also for its symbol, the Kappa!

    It is a Yokai (supernatural creature of the Japanese folklore) that looks like a turtle, with a beak and especially a small tray filled with water on its head. In this city the mascot is rather cute or funny, but the story behind this Yokai is darker than it seems, I advise you to take a look 😉

    In Jozankei, you can find Kappa statuettes scattered all over the place, I even got a map from the tourist office to find them all 😁

    I walked around the interesting spots while photographing the small (and bigger) Kappa. Then, I came across a great place for a tea / onsen break.

    In fact, it is a tea house with many foot baths outside. Here, everything is made to relax: they provide you with armchairs, cushions, plaids and even a straw hat to bathe your feet in the best conditions ☺️

    After that, I settled inside, to enjoy some tea as well as small cakes.

    The people there looked like they could spend hours there, and I agree. Unfortunately I didn't have that much time, so I made it short to catch my bus in time.

    I had also spotted an onsen, but didn't get a chance to try it. Too bad 😅

    そして、広くて素敵な足湯を見つけた。

    周りには緑が多くてとても静かな場所だった。

    そのあと、お茶を飲んでクッキーを食べた😸

    Japanese studies in Sapporo

    Depuis quelques semaines, j'ai repris quelques cours de japonais.

    En passant par l'Office de tourisme de Sapporo, j'avais récupéré un journal en anglais sur les évènements et activités à Sapporo. Dans ce journal, j'ai trouvé plusieurs annonces de groupes d'études de japonais.

    Ces cours sont payants, mais vraiment donnés : environ 300¥ (2€) pour 1h30, parfois moins. C'est presque symbolique. Je me suis inscrit dans un premier groupe, et comme ça m'avait plu j'ai choisi 2 autres groupes pour cumuler les heures de cours.

    Je n'ai pas vraiment de photos à vous montrer, mais les cours se tenaient dans des salles de réunion / de classe avec un professeur natif pour 5 à 6 étudiants maximum.

    Le contenu est plutôt varié, surtout en combinant les 3 groupes : lecture, écoute, reconnaissance de Kanjis, écriture, grammaire, conversation, dialogues.

    Par contre, je me suis inscrit un peu tardivement et pendant le mois de juillet il y a les vacances d'été, et donc pas de cours à ce moment là.

    Since a few weeks, I have taken some Japanese classes.

    In the Sapporo Tourism Office, I had picked up a newspaper in English about events and activities in Sapporo. In this newspaper, I found several announcements of Japanese study groups.

    These courses are not free, but really cheap: about 300¥ (2€) for 1h30, sometimes cheaper. It's a symbolic fee, really. I joined a first group, and as I liked it, I selected 2 other groups to combine the hours of lessons.

    I don't really have pictures to show you, but the courses were held in meeting room/classroom with a native teacher for 5 to 6 students.

    The content is diversed, especially when combining the 3 groups: reading, listening, Kanji recognition, writing, grammar, conversation, dialogues.

    However, I joined a bit late: during July there are summer vacations, so there are no classes at that time.

    Retour à Otaru pour une journée.

    Je ne sais pas si vous vous souvenez, mais la dernière fois, j'avais reçu un cadeau d'anniversaire à ma plus grande surprise. Un moment totalement inattendu et qui s'ajoutait à une très belle journée à Otaru.

    Et bien, j'ai décidé d'y retourner, et j'ai vécu une nouvelle fois de précieux moments. Il va y avoir de la lecture, car j'ai plein de choses à raconter 😁

    J'ai acheté un JR pass pour voyager sur une durée de 4 jours. J'avais prévu une journée à Otaru, puis de prendre le train pour Sapporo le lendemain pour aller à mon cours de japonais du matin.

    À Otaru il faisait beau, et chaud ! Alors, je me suis acheté une glace... de 8 étages 😂

    J'ai ensuite visité le musée de la boîte à musique. Je n'avais pas eu le temps de voir ça la dernière fois, et c'est encore plus impressionnant que la boutique que j'avais visité. D'ailleurs, des boutiques de boîte à musique il y en a d'autres, et j'ai encore craqué !! 😅

    Dans une boutique un peu particulière, d'anciens instruments fonctionnant sur le principe de la boîte à musique étaient exposés : un orgue automatisé, un ancêtre du jukebox, avec des disques perforés, un mini orchestre, etc...
    À certaines heures, on peut assister au fonctionnement de ces instruments. Je vous laisse découvrir cela en vidéo.

    Mais la vraie surprise, c'était ma nouvelle guesthouse. Vraiment géniale. Au moment où je suis rentré, j'ai compris que c'était différent de mes précédents logements.

    L'intérieur est rempli d'objets, de souvenirs, de mangas. Partout. Il y avait aussi un chien et un chat 😸
    La guesthouse est plutôt spacieuse, il y avait des chaises et coussins dispersés un peu dans toute la maison. En gros, la maison entière était un espace de.partage et de détente.

    Je me suis absenté un moment pour aller faire un onsen (vous commencez à me connaître !)

    À peine rentré, j'étais invité à prendre une bière et discuter avec les quelques personnes qui discutaient sur la terrasse (en japonais). J'ai appris que le festival d'été d'Otaru se tenait les jours suivant, un festival attendu car cela faisait 3 ans qu'il n'avait pas eu lieu (merci le COVID). Et, au bout d'un moment, nous avons entendu des tambours ! C'était les répétitions de Taiko (tambours) pour le festival ☺️

    Ensuite, j'ai passé une super soirée dans une pizzeria du quartier, avec un patron qui préparait la pizza devant nous, au rythme des tambours (les répétitions continuaient).

    Je voulais voir au moins une partie du festival et prolonger les bons moments passés dans la guesthouse, donc je me suis arrangé pour revenir le lendemain, après mon cours ! Et oui, j'y suis retourné, parce que 😁

    Je n'ai malheureusement pas vu la parade du festival, mais l'ambiance était très prenante.

    Bref, je garde d'excellentsouvenirs de ces 2 jours à Otaru, décidément c'est une ville que j'adore.

    Back to Otaru for one day.

    I don't know if you remember, but last time, I received a birthday present, to my greatest surprise. It was a totally unexpected moment, added to an already nice day in Otaru.

    Well, I decided to visit a second time, and once again I lived some precious moments. I have plenty of things to tell, si there it will be quite long to read 😁

    I bought a JR pass to travel for 4 days. I had planned a day in Otaru, then to take the train to Sapporo the next day in order to attend to a Japanese class the morning.

    The weather in Otaru was nice and quite hot ! So I bought myself an ice cream... with 8 layers 😂

    Then, I visited the music box museum. I had too little time to see it last time, it's even more impressive than the store I visited. Speaking of stores, there are multiple music box stores out there, and I once again, I couldn't resist !!! 😅

    In a particular store, old instruments working on the principle of the music box were exposed: an automated organ, an ancestor of the jukebox with perforated discs, a mini orchestra, etc...
    At specific hours, you can see these instruments in action. I recorded a bit of what I saw.

    But the real surprise was my new guesthouse. Really amazing. The moment I walked in, I realized that it was different from my previous accommodations.

    The interior is full of objects, souvenirs, manga. Everywhere. There was also a dog and a cat 😸
    The guesthouse is pretty spacious, there were chairs and cushions scattered around the house. Basically, the whole house was a space for meeting other people and relaxing.

    I went out for a while to do an onsen. (Yes, I like onsens).

    As soon as I got back, I was invited to grab a beer and have a chat (in japanese) with the people sitted on the terrace. I learned that the Otaru summer festival was taking place the next days, an awaited festival because it had not been held in the last 3 years (thanks to COVID). And, after a while, we suddenly heard Taiko (drums) ! It was to prepare for the festival ☺️

    Later, I had a great night at a local pizzeria, with the owner making pizza in front of us, following the rythm of the drums (the rehearsals were still going on).

    I wanted to see at least some part of the festival and extend the good times in the guesthouse, so I planned to come back the next day, right after my class ! Yes, I went back, just because 😁

    I unfortunately missed the festival parade, but the atmosphere of the festival was really there.

    I have many great memories of these 2 days in Otaru, it's a place I really love.

    今回は新しいゲストハウスに泊まった。一泊だけ…と思った。

    でもね、色々あった。

    いい天気だったし、温泉に入ったし。そして、ゲストハウスで、本当にいい人に会った。みんなは優しい。日本語だけで話した。
    ちょっと難しいけどとても楽しかったよ。😁

    そして、次の日は小樽祭りが始まると聞いた。その日、日本語の授業のために、札幌に戻る予定があった。

    けど、終わりたくなかった。ゲストハウスの人ともっと話したかった。お祭りを見たかった。

    そのために、授業が終わってからもう一度小樽に行った。

    Noboribetsu's hell

    Noboribetsu Onsen, le retour !

    Cette fois je voulais faire une chose: Jigokudani (地獄谷) ou vallée de l'enfer 👹

    Enfin... je voulais aussi refaire le onsen, puisque c'était sur le chemin.

    La vallée de l'enfer porte bien son nom, quand on arrive sur place on voit tout de suite des avertissements et des zones hors d'accès, car il y a des risques de prendre un jet de vapeur brûlante venant d'un geyser. Et ça fait très mal, on dépasse aisément les 100°C !

    Dans la vallée on peut prendre plusieurs itinéraire, plus c'est long plus on prend de la hauteur. J'avais peur d'être à court de temps pour le bus de retour, donc j'ai opté pour l'itinéraire intermédiaire, qui donne quand même un beau panorama.

    Finalement, j'étais dans les temps et ça tombe bien car il s'est d'un coup mis à pleuvoir, et pas qu'un peu. Heureusement, le onsen de l'hôtel à quelques minutes m'attendais ☺️

    C'est le même que j'avais fait la dernière fois, on achète un passe "visiteur" et on peut accéder aux bains à certaines heures.

    Depuis un des bains, il y a une vue sur la vallée de l'enfer. Ce qui veut dire que les gens visitant la vallée peuvent apercevoir des gens nus dans un bain, mais il faut avoir une très bonne vue 😂

    En bonus, je vous mets un tramway que j'ai vu à Sapporo avec un look... Enfin dites moi ce que vous en pensez 😅

    Back to Noboribetsu Onsen.

    This time I wanted to do one thing: Jigokudani (地獄谷) or hell valley 👹

    Or two things... I wanted to do the onsen again, since it was on the way.

    The hell valley is well named, when you get there you immediately see warnings and areas off limits, as there are risks burning steam coming from geysers. And that hurts, believe, it easily exceeds 100°C !

    In the valley we can take several route, the longer it is the more you gain in altitude. I was not certain to catch my bus in time with the longest route, so I tool for the intermediate one, which gives a beautiful panorama.

    In the end, I was in time and it was a good thing because suddenly it started to rain, and not a little. Fortunately, the onsen of the hotel located a few minutes away was there, waiting for me ☺️

    It's the same one I did last time. You buy a "guest" ticket and you can access the baths during hours.

    From one of the baths, there is a view of the hell valley. Which also means that people visiting the valley can see naked people in a bath, but only if they have a really really good sight 😂

    As a bonus, you have a photo of a streetcar I saw in Sapporo... It looks... well tell me what you think 😅

    私は、小樽(おたる)が終わってから、ちょっと疲れた。
    だけど、また登別温泉に行った。

    なんで？温泉があるよね〜😁

    実はそうじゃなくて地獄谷(じごくだに)も行きたかった。

    あの場所は危なそう！火山じゃないけど、似ている。
    沢山の煙がある。水が暑いなんだ。

    そして、階段を登った。地獄谷の周りに緑が多い。

    急に雨が降り始めた。傘を忘れてしまったから速く温泉に入った。地獄谷から歩いて５分ぐらい、ちょうど良かった！🥲

    Shiraoi : Upopoy museum

    Ah enfin ! Je voulais faire cette sortie depuis mon arrivée à Hokkaido ☺️

    Tout récemment, Upopoy a ouvert ses portes à Shiraoi, pas très loin de Noboribetsu.

    C'est une zone qui inclut un musée, un parc, ainsi que d'autres structures, toutes portant sur la culture Aïnou.
    Les Aïnous sont un peuple autochtone vivant à l'origine au Nord du Japon (Hokkaido), au Nord-est de Honshu, ainsi qui dans certaines îles, notemment l'île Sakhaline qui est est une île russe au nord du Japon.

    Aujourd'hui, le peuple existe encore mais les personnes qui parlent encore la langue Aïnou se font peu nombreuses.

    À Hokkaido, il existe plusieurs lieux permettant de découvrir la culture Aïnou, mais Upopoy est le plus récent, et le plus complet d'entre eux.

    Si vous passez dans le coin, je vous recommande vivement de réserver une journée pour y aller dès l'ouverture. Il faut réserver une place en ligne par contre, et il vaut mieux étudier le planning en avance pour ne pas rater les activités les plus intéressantes.

    Il y a un village en extérieur, une zone avec des ateliers, un musée, et une salle de projection, qui permet également de voir des démonstrations de chants et danses Aïnous.

    On trouve aussi plusieurs restaurants, tous ayant un lien avec la cuisine Aïnou.

    Le musée est très bien fait et permet de comprendre la culture Aïnou à travers plusieurs thématiques disposées en cercle dans une grande salle. Tout est traduit en anglais, et il y a une application qui sert d'audio-guide, avec la possibilité de changer l'audio pour entendre la version Aïnou 😁

    J'ai vraiment apprécié cette journée, et ça m'a donné envie de lire le manga Golden Kamuy, dont l'intrigue se passe justement dans des villes que j'ai visité à Hokkaido, et qui parlent beaucoup du peuple Aïnu.

    Finally ! I wanted to do this since I arrived in Hokkaido ☺️

    Very recently, Upopoy opened its doors in Shiraoi, not too far from Noboribetsu.

    The area includes a museum, a park, as well as other structures, all about Ainu culture.
    The Ainu are an indigenous people originally living in the North of Japan (Hokkaido), in the North-East of Honshu, and in some islands, notably Sakhalin Island which is a Russian island in the North of Japan.

    Today, the people still exist but the people actually able to speak the Ainu language are few.

    In Hokkaido, there are several places to discover this culture, but Upopoy is the most recent and complete of them.

    If you are in the area, I highly recommend to book a full day to go there, as soon as it opens. You have to book online though, and it's better to look at the schedule in advance to avoid missing the most interesting activities.

    There is an outdoor village, an area with workshops, a museum, and a projection room, which also allows to see shows like Ainu songs and dances.

    There are also several restaurants, all related to Ainu cuisine.

    The museum is very well done and allows to understand the Ainu culture through several themes arranged in a circle in a large room. Everything is translated into English, and there is an app that serves as an audio-guide, with a feature to switch the audio to the Ainu version 😁

    I really enjoyed this day, and it made me want to read the manga Golden Kamuy, whose plot takes place in cities I visited in Hokkaido, and is about the Ainu people.

    Pendant la dernière semaine à Sapporo, j'ai ralenti un peu le rythme pour faire quelques préparatifs en vue de la suite.

    Je suis retourné voir le Buddha géant, car j'espérais y voir des champs de lavande, mais les champs commençaient tout juste à se colorer. Dommage 🫤

    Sur le chemin, je suis allé voir un autre Buddha que j'avais raté la première fois. Merci pour me l'avoir indiqué dans les commentaires 🥲

    Le personnel sur place était très gentil et après avoir vu cet impressionnant Buddha, on m'a donné un petit origami. C'est adorable non ?

    J'ai aussi trouvé un nouveau gatcha intéressant, le petit objet bleu sur la dernière photo. Savez vous ce que c'est et comment on appelle ça ?

    During the last week in Sapporo, I slowed down a bit to do some preparations for the next trip.

    I went back to the Giant Buddha, as I was hoping to see lavender fields there. Unfortunately the fields were just starting to turn purple. Too bad 🫤

    On the way, I saw another Buddha that I had missed the first time. Thanks for pointing it out in the comments section 🥲

    The staff there was very nice and after seeing this awesome Buddha, I was given a little origami. Isn't it adorable ?

    I also found a new interesting gatcha, the little blue object on the last picture. Do you know what it is ?

    Last days in Sapporo

    Et voilà ! Mon séjour à Hokkaido se termine.

    Mais ce n'est pas fini, la suite s'annonce chargée, du moins pour les jours qui vont suivre 😉

    Pour terminer en beauté à Sapporo, j'ai assisté au feu d'artifice, qui était très attendu car annulé les années précédentes (vous connaissez le coupable, on en parle déjà suffisamment dans le monde).

    Il y avait beaucoup de monde, mais je pense avoir réussi à prendre de belles photos 😁

    Le spectacle était très impressionnant même si je n'étais pas le mieux placé. Visuellement je n'avais jamais vu ça. Le Japon a fait des feux d'artifices une spécialité, ça c'est certain.

    Et, cerise sur le parfait, je suis retourné dans mon café nocturne favori. J'ai accompagné le parfait d'un verre de vin rouge cette fois, c'était magique 🥲

    To end on a high note, I went to the fireworks in Sapporo, which was expected by many because it was cancelled the previous years (you know the culprit, we already talk about it enough in the world).

    It was very crowded, but I think I managed to take some nice pictures 😁

    The show was very impressive even though I was not in the best spot. I had never seen these kind of visuals. Japan has made fireworks a specialty, that's for sure.

    And, the icing on the parfait, I went back to my favorite nighttime café. I accompanied the parfait with a glass of red wine this time, it was magical 🥲

    フランスには沢山の花火を見たことがある。

    人混みあるのにとても良かった。新しい花火の種類が見えた。なら嬉しいよ。☺️

    次の町に行く前にまたパフェを食べた。「パフェテリア　パル」もう一度行った！
    めちゃくちゃ美味しかった🥲

    日本人の友達から他のシメパフェをおすすめされた。でもあそこに行くとき人が多くて並ばないと…諦めた
    今度は試してみたい。冬に多分。

    Me voilà dans le Tohoku, et plus précisément dans la préfecture d'Aomori, située tout au nord de l'île Honshū.

    La préfecture d'Aomori est très prisée en cette période de Matsuri (festivals japonais). Dans cette préfecture, on peut en voir de très impressionnants, certains faisant parti des plus populaires dans tout le Japon.

    Je voulais découvrir le Tohoku, et j'ai l'intention de voir plusieurs Matsuri en chemin 💪

    J'ai commencé par une journée à Hirosaki, proche de la ville d'Aomori (tous deux dans la préfecture d'Aomori)

    J'ai passé un peu de temps autour du château d'Hirosaki. J'aime bien les châteaux japonais mais je préfère les voir depuis l'extérieur. L'intérieur me semble toujours un peu... vide 😅
    Il est entouré par un jardin botanique que l'on peut visiter.

    Ensuite, je suis allé voir le Neputa village. Il permet d'en savoir plus sur le festival "Neputa" d'Hirosaki, et de se mettre dans l'ambiance, surtout lorsqu'on a pas la chance de pouvoir y assister. Dans mon cas, c'était pour avoir un avant goût avant le vrai spectacle.

    Quand on parle de festival en été, le "Nebuta"de la ville d'Aomori est souvent évoqué. Mais le "Neputa" d'Hirosaki est un peu éclipsé, alors qu'il est à mon sens tout aussi impressionnant, et que les deux sont en quelques sorte les deux faces d'une même pièce (vous comprendrez avec les photos)

    Au "Neputa", on peut admirer des éventails géants faits de bois et papier, défiler dans les rues. À l'intérieur des ces éventails, des lampes sont installées. Cela leur donne un très bel aspect la nuit. Sur chaque éventail, le recto et le verso sont très différents.

    Dans le Neputa village, on peut voir plusieurs éventails des années précédentes (avant COVID), voir comment ils sont fabriqués, et aussi assister à un spectacle de tambour Taiko, qui fait littéralement trembler la pièce 🤯

    I am now in Tohoku, more precisely in Aomori prefecture, located in the very north of Honshū island.

    Aomori prefecture is very popular during this period of Matsuri (Japanese festivals). In this prefecture, you can see some very impressive ones, some of the most popular in all of Japan.

    I wanted to discover Tohoku, and I want to see several Matsuri along the way 💪

    Let's start with one day in Hirosaki, near Aomori city (both in Aomori prefecture)

    I spent some time around the Hirosaki castle. I like Japanese castles but I prefer to see them from the outside. The inside always feels a bit... empty. At least it's my impression 😅
    The castle is surrounded by a botanical garden that you can visit.

    Next, I went to the Neputa village. Here you can learn more about the Hirosaki "Neputa" festival, and to experience this festival atmosphere, especially when you're not in Hirosaki when it is held. In my case, it was to have a preview of the real show.

    When we talk about summer festival, the "Nebuta" of Aomori city is often what comes first. The "Neputa" of Hirosaki is a bit overshadowed by Aomori's "Nebuta", even though it is in my opinion just as impressive. In fact the two festivals are two sides of the same coin (you will understand why by seeing the pictures)

    At "Neputa", you can admire giant floats made of wood and paper, parading in the streets. Inside these floats, lamps are installed. This gives them a very nice aspect at night. On each float, the front and the back are very different.

    In Neputa village, you can see several floats from previous years (before COVID), see how they are made, and also watch a Taiko drum performance, which literally shakes the room🤯

    コロナで３年ぶりだかど今回はお祭りがやる！
    沢山の祭りを見るために、いろんな町に行くつもりだ。

    まず、弘前(ひろさき)に行った。弘前のお城を見た。周りには公園もある。

    ねぷた祭りについて知りたい。「ねぷた村」という所には沢山の情報ある。面白かった！

    ねぷた祭りを説明するのは難しい…ごめんね 😅

    Hirosaki's Neputa festival

    Le festival d'Hirosaki avait lieu le soir.

    Il y avait foule sur place, mais aussi beaucoup de stands installés sur le trajet du festival. Beaucoup étaient venus avec une bâche ou des chaises pliantes pour s'installer confortablement en famille.

    De mon côté j'ai opté pour la solution la plus simple: grignoter rapidement avant que le festival ne commence. Je me suis ensuite trouvé une place debout pour ne rien rater du spectacle, et j'ai attendu patiemment 19h.

    Quel festival !
    Même après avoir eu un aperçu au village Neputa, vivre le festival c'était vraiment autre chose.

    Les éventails géants défilaient presque sans s'arrêter. Malgré l'envergure de ces éventails, un système de cordage permettait de les faire tourner sur eux-mêmes, pour voir l'alternance du recto et du verso de chaque éventail.

    L'atmosphère était très entraînante, surtout grâce aux énormes tambours Taiko qui faisaient vibrer le sol et donnaient le tempo 🥳🎶

    Les tenues traditionnelles, les lanternes, et autres accessoires renforçaient cette ambiance festive.

    Parfois, il y avait des enfants qui défilaient, avec des éventails et autres accessoires adorables

    Même si j'ai raté la fin pour attraper mon train, j'ai adoré et je m'en souviendrais longtemps je pense.

    J'espère que les photos et vidéos vous donneront un bon aperçu ☺️

    Si vous avez l'occasion de passer dans la préfecture d'Aomori pendant cette période, ne vous contentez pas du festival Nebuta, allez voir le Neputa d'Hirosaki, vous ne serez vraiment pas déçus.

    The Hirosaki festival was held in the evening.

    There was a lot of people, but also a lot of food stands set up on the way to the festival. Many came with a cover or folding chairs to sit comfortably with their families.

    I opted for the easiest solution: a quick snack before the festival start. I then searched for a good spot so as not to miss anything of the show, and I standed there, waited patiently for the start at 7pm.

    What a festival !
    Even after having had a glimpse of it at the Neputa village, experiencing the festival in flesh was really something else.

    The giant floats went one after the other, almost without stopping. Despite the size of these floats, a rope system allowed them to turn on themselves, to show alternatively the front and back of each float.

    The atmosphere was very lively, especially thanks to the huge Taiko drums that made the ground shake and gave the tempo 🥳🎶

    The traditional outfits, lanterns, and other accessories enhanced this festive atmosphere.

    Sometimes there were children, with much smaller floats and cute accessories

    Even if I missed the end to catch my train, I loved it and I will remember it for a long time.

    If you have the opportunity to go in Aomori prefecture during this period, don't go only to see the Nebuta festival, go to Hirosaki's Neputa as well, you won't be disappointed.
