  • Day 23

    25 stycznia, Peru ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

The morning started a bit strange. We woke up because our phones got an alert message. You know, like the ones we get every first monday of the month at 12 o clock. Except it ws not monday 12 o clock... the message was only in spanish, and alerted us for a rising river and possible land slides, because of heavy rain. Nina was at full alert, and eike just wanted hiking. We packed our bags just in case, and our host was checking out the river with his drone. And lazer he went to look in real life. The river is quite a bit down, and there are a few walls build exactly for the purpose of slowing the river down if it comes to an overflooding. We decided to walk to the village to see what was going on. But life went on like normal. So we walked around and went shopping 😂 nina bought a nice zipper, and eike a really nice poncho. We walked around for the whole day. Ollantaytambo is a really nice town, build on nazca ruins. The streeta are small and have walls out of rocks. Some are really really big and they don't know how they got them into place. Around 16:00 we decided to walk to our 'hotel', but bumped into a guy we bumped into when we walked into town in the morning. This time he was quite drunk though 🤭 we had a small talk and went on. 2 minutes later we decided to turn around and get a beer at the kiosk too. It was the start of a crazy evening 🤭
We drank some beers with the drunk guy, Ernesto, and his cousin, Jesus, who had his 30th birthday today. It was a lot of fun, and at some point a group of about 5 kids came and all hugged ernesto (family), and the put out their hands because they wanted him to get them candy. He did not give in, but Eike did! 🤣 the kids were very happy and Ernesto wanted them to say thank you, so they all said in choir "THANK YOU!" And then they left. Jesus also left for 2 minutes he said, but was not back 30 minutes later, and ernesto invited us to his house. His house is not finished yet, but it is a big building that towers over the rest of the houses. It is a gift from his mom, to see the stars and the mountains around the valley. Ernesto said that he ofcourse is happy with the house, but his mother is a bit more posh than he is 😅 the house is not finished yet and is still in the building phase, but the rooftop view was amazing! Ernesto got us some really disgusting sekt and we drank it on the roof. Jesus came back and joined us, and then we went down, back into town. Ernesto was waaaay too drunk now to be able to do anything, but he found his way to his moms house 🤭 me and eike thought at first that he just walked into someones house and dropped in their bed, but that was not the case. We said hello to his mom and went further with jesus. The town goes to sleep at 20:00, but Jesus took us to a room with one big table and chairs all around the walls. There were a lot of local people sitting there with giant glasses with some kind of drink. When we went in it was suddenly all quiet, but after a few minutes it was ok. Eike started talking with some old men, and quickly the ice was broken. We also got a giant glass (1 liter) of what the others were drinking. It was fermented choclo, the kind of mais we ate yesterday. We also got offered a shot of some sugar cane schnapps. After we finished our giant drinks nina, eike, jesus, and one of the old men went to another place. They had a fire inside. It was also nice and we drank a beer there too. Then we went home.

  • Day 22

    24 stycznia, Peru ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

After a 'night' (a few hours) in an overpriced hotel room, we went to the airport again. This time the destination was Cuzco. We spend 5 hours on the airport because it was hard to get there later than we did. The plane left at 08:00 and at 09:30 we arrived in Cuzco. This small city lies at 3400 meters above sea level. Nina had blue lips, but it turned out that that was from the cold airplane and quickly went away 🤭 we took a little, full bus to the center (1 sol pp), instead of a taxi (10 soles). We walked around a bit, but we felt the air was thinner and went to eat and drink something. We are not staying the night in Cuzco, because we went so quickly up, so we took an effectivo (a car filled with people. A shared taxi so to say) to Ollantaytambo. This lies at 2700 meter. It is a cute town, with pretty small inca buildings and streets. It is also very touristic, because it is on the way to machu picciu. The mountains are pretty and so high! And lots of inca ruins on the way up.
Our host picked us up at the main plaza of ollantaytambo and showed us a bit of the town. We had to walk about 20min to the place we are staying now. We saw a small hummingbird and also a small baby snake. So cute! At our arrival we got offered a cup of coca tea, which was helping a bit against the tiredness and the thin air here. After drinking the cup of tea and a bit small talk we went in our room and got some rest. We walked to the town to get some groceries, but there is not much here. Lots of chips and chocolate, and maybe some buns and cheese 😅 so that will be our dinner today. We also found some spaghetti and pesto, and hope we can make it here tomorrow. Fingers crossed we will find some tomatoes tomorrow!
The salty chips are also good for our bodies here so high up, because your body starts to make more urine, and the salt helps to keep water in. We have to drink a lot of water against altitude sickness. On the way to and from the town we saw a lot of dogs and cows on the way.
It is much colder here (15°) and we finally are happy that we didn't leave our winter jackets and sweaters somewhere behind! (They were very annoying because they take up a lot of space 😅) our host and his volunteer made a fire in the yard and started to cook giant white corn of cuzco (choclo), that only grows between 2600 and 3000 meter. Ther kernels are quite big and it tastes really nice. A bit like sugar mais mixed with white beans. Then it was sleeping time.
PS: we saw a lot of llamas on the way to ollantaytambo ❤️

  • Day 21

    23 stycznia, Peru ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

Today started with a very early hotel breakfast, and a 5 km mototaxi ride to the airport. It costed 10 soles. The airport of pucallpa is very small (the smallest airport eike has ever been to), so we were there way too early. When we were waiting, nina spotted an owl inside the airport hall. It didn't move and we also didn't see it's face. He was probably sleeping.
The flight went easy. Bit of turbulation but nothing bad. It was a very nice view, once we got under the clouds. We are happy to be in Lima again. It feels a lot different then when we were here the first time. I don't know how to explain.
There are also a lot more tourists here than before, when it was just after new years and christmas. We decided to stay in miraflores, but only because the night airport shuttle is going from here. Otherwise we would have stayed in el centro.
We got us some bread and salad from the supermarket, and ate it in the cat park. We got a few cat friends really quickly 🤭 we walked around a bit and drank a cocktail and some beers. We went home early, because we have to wake up early. Good night!

  • Day 20

    22 stycznia, Peru ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

This morning we woke up and it was raining very very hard. It was already raining since a few hours. We had the hotel breakfast and went back to the room. These tropical rains really can go on for hours and hours. We wanted to go to the market, because eike wanted to try piraña, and tomorrow we leave the jungle. So we put our rain coats on, and just went anyway. We didn't find any piraña's here, but we got offered some huge pieces of cayman (kaaiman). We were thinking about trying some, but they refused to give us smaller pieces. The pieces were so big, 4 people could eat from it, and be completely full. So we left without trying anything. We drank a big coffee on the way back to the hotel. Later when it was finally dry, we took a small walk and chilled in the hotel. Pucallpa is not a very interesting city. Tomorrow we leave again, on our way to cuzco, but we have a stop in lima and have to spend one night there again. Czytaj więcej

  • Day 19

    22 stycznia, Peru ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

We didn't do much today, because it was very hot and humid. We had the breakfast of the hotel, and went back to our airconditioned room. The cleaning lady came, so we went out for a bit and drank a beer at an old lady's house which was also a lunchroom. It was a bit away from the center. We went back to the hotel and in the evening we went to look for some vegetables to eat. We had to take a mototaxi because it was far away, and it turned out to be a very fancy and expensive kind of health shop where you could eat. We both had the vegetarian bowl with carrots, brown rice, avocado, mushrooms and red cabbage. It was not so much vegetables, but it was very nice to finally have some 🤭 when we left, a friendly dog was sitting in front of the door, and when we went out, it started following us. We halted a mototaxi and got in. The dog started running next to us and wanted to go with us in the taxi 💔 it was a bit scary, because he almost got under the taxi. It was so sad 🥺 we are sure he has some friends in that neighborhood, so it probably was better that he stayed there. Although eike would have liked to take him with us. We went to the hotel, watched some movies and went to sleep. Czytaj więcej

  • Day 18

    21 stycznia, Peru ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

We woke up at around 9pm and had a nice sleep because of a propper bed and also the AC in the room. After our fist breakfast, left over bread with nutella we went out for a coffee in a local lunch room down the street. We decided to eat another sandwich and drink a freshly made juice. Nina had "jugo fresa con leche" and eike a "jugo maracuya con leche", they were very tasty. After one hour we finally got our coffee, cause the lady forgot to bring it to us🤭. It was a cup with hot water and to seperate small cups, one with coffee and the other smal cup was filled with milk. We never saw a coffee served like that... after we decied to walk a bit around, took a small walk over the local market were you could buy meat, fruits, vegetables, selfmade cigartettes and a lot of shaman stuff and for sure ayahuasca. Haha. But it was very very hot, and the sun was burning, so we fled to our cool room again. We planned our trip some more, because we are taking our time too much and Peru is very very big, we decided that our next stop will be cuzco. In the early evening we decided to walk a bit more down the river side and went to cafe to grab some cake and a ice coffee caramel😃. At around 20.00h we went to dinner, but we wished we didn't, because we had the worst lasagne in our lives. Microwave lasagne would be 10 stars, compared to this disgusting lasagne 🤣. Pucallpa is one of the biggest harbour city in peru (also sadly because of rainforest wood industy), so here is a lot police and military presence. It makes us feel a bit uncomfortable... • Day 17

    20 stycznia, Peru ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

We both slept on and off through the night. Nina slept surprisingly good actually. In the night the boat went slower. Thr uyancali river is so big, trees are floating everywhere, and in the night the driver can't see them so quickly. The sunrise over the river and jungle was really nice. When it got hot again (32°), we sat outside in the wind. It felt really cool, but the sun was burning nevertheless. Eike saw two blue ara's sitting in a tree. We saw also something big rolling in the water. We could not see what it was. Someone next to us used the word anaconda, but we will never know if it was one or not. The boat slowed down, and nina felt te sun burning really hot, so she went inside. Eike wanted to stay a little longer anyway, so Eike has his first sunburn (and it is a good one!) in years now 🤭 The older guy that was sitting next to Eike, kept buying us fruits, and drinks, and some kind of tamale. Eike tried to say no at some point, but the guy did not take that for an answer 😅 it was also nice, because we ate fruit we never saw before, and the drink was also made of a fruit we never tasted before. The best one was a fruit that looked from the outside a bit like a small coconut, but was orange on the inside and had some (4?) Big seeds inside. The battle for the sound was not so much happening today, because one was playing music in the front of the boat with a big speaker, and one in the back. The boat is so long that it worked. I do feel a bit sad for the old people in the front, because the music was really really loud there. But maybe they had earproblems anyway 🤭 we spend the day sitting inside and outside. Eike thought of a great hole in the market. The people at the stops have everything to sell, except for cerveza (bier). So in the evening eike went ashore and bought some in a shop at the harbour of a community. We sat outside when the sun was going down, and saw a big fish, but also some dolphins ❤️ that was the last time we sat outside, because after that nobody was allowed outside anymore. Nina thinks it was because the combination of the darkness, the many curves the river was getting, and the speed, that they would not think it was safe. Last night there was no problem with sitting outside. We started to get bored after 28 hours. Before that it was a really nice experience. After 36 hours we finally arrived at 01:00. We got our bags and took a mototaxi. We made the mistake with not asking how much it would be. Normally for a small ride like this, it would be 3 soles (75 cent or so), but he wanted 20 soles 😅 we checked in in our super fancy hotel with airconditioning, took a shower, watched some telenovella and a (very bad) cooking show (everybody on tv was white), and went to sleep. • Day 16

    18 stycznia, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

This morning we had breakfast after we packed our stuff. Breakfast was a bit better than the other days in the hostel, because we had a fried egg with it too! We took a mototaxi at 08:45 to the agency of the speedboat to pucallpa. Nobody told us we first had a two hour busride to Santa Rosa first, so we were a little bit surprised. From there we took a mototaxi to the harbour, where it luckily was easy to find our boat. We gave our backpacks to a guy who secured them on the roof of the boat and got to our seats. It was too hot, so we went outside and waited there for an hour. Eike got some cold beers and a cola for me. It is the hottest day so far, with 32 degrees, and we are sweating like pigs. When it was 13:00 the boat was leaving, so we got into the now full boat. Our seats were taken, and it turned out nobody had 'their' seats. We are not sitting together now., but it's ok. The boat is longer than a bus, and some seats are broken, but it has wifi and you can load your phone! It is now 00:00 here, but in the day time when we stop somewhere, a lot of people come into the boat to sell their food or drinks. They al shout really loud and they all want to make at least one round. They also all sell the same stuff 😅 when it got dark, the insects started to come in. We had some bugs, flying ants, cockroaches and many crickets flying against us. The moskitos luckily left when the light went out. Headphones is also not really a thing here, so 20 people are listening 20 different musics, and then some are watching funny videos or playing shooting games 😅 we can sit outside on a small piece in the front. There it is nice and cool, and we could watch the stars. They are so amazing without light pollution ❤️ we are now 11 hours on the boat, and on maybe a third of the route. Czytaj więcej

  • Day 15

    17 stycznia, Peru ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

It was really nice to sleep on a matress again! We had the small breakfast of the hostel again, and went into the city to drink coffee and go to the bank. We got two small backpacks too, to make travelling a bit easier. We got two tickets for the speedboat to pucallpa tomorrow, which will take 1,5 to 2 days. It will be a small boat so it might get really tough 🤭 we did the laundary at the hostel. The supermarket was the next stop, to get food for the water road. Then the humidity kicked in again, and we did nothing for hours. Just waiting for our laundary to dry, so we can pack our bags. We went to eat someting, took a shower and went to bed.
As said above, tomorrow morning we are taking a boat to pucallpa, which will take one or two days, where we will not have internet again.

We were supposed to go through the anaconda area to the watchtower early this morning, to see the sun rise over the jungle, but it started raining and thunder storming around 03:00. It didn't stop untill 09:00. We packed our bags and walked back to the base camp, where we had breakfast and lunch. We passed the time inbetween in a hammock. Really relaxing 😊 then we went to the amazona river bank and went back to iquitos with a speed boat that took 1 hour. We had nice walk through iquitos to our super mega cheap hostel, and planned our next days a bit. We went to eat something and drank a beer in a bar, and went to sleep in our private room (one of the beds has woodworms, so it can't be booked 🤭 on monday the carpenter comes, the guy said). • Day 13

    17 stycznia, Peru ⋅ 🌧 23 °C

The day started with packing our stuff in the tent, and getting ready to go back into the moskito swarm outside. Maxi made a fire again, which went easier than yesterday. He got some water from the river and cooked us some eggs. He also had bread an orange for us. He also made us some tea, but it was also from the water of the river, and it didn't cook for very long, so we did not drink it in the end. We packed up the camp and went back into the boat. When we arrived at the house of some family of maxi, eike bought a cold beer from them. We did not know what time it was, but it must have been around 9:30 🤭 then we walked for some 30 minutes or so, and got a mototaxi to the lodge from the night before. There we had some hours to chill and then it was lunch time. After lunch we had to take our stuff again, because we are not sleeping in the lodge tonight either! James from the US is joining us today. We went on a nice 1 hour walk to our next sleeping place, which was a traditional house in the middle of nowhere. On the way we saw a snake and a lot of skull monkeys/squirl monkeys/mr. Nilsson monkeys ❤️ 20 minutes after we arrived we took a rowboat and rowed a while in anaconda territory, but we didn't have the luck to see one. We landed the boat and went further by foot. No anaconda here either, but a nice tarantula ❤️ We arrived at a watch tower where you could see birds, but me (nina) only went up the first floor (the tower looked not stable at all, because something ate the beams quite a bit 😬). Eike went to the top and saw a very special bird that only lives in this specific swamp. He showed it later to nina an then we saw some more mr. Nilsson monkeys and one with a baby. We went back  to the boat and rowed back to our sleeping place. Our dinner today was tomato and cucumber salad and a not so tasty mandarin. Then it was dark and went on a hike. We did not see any big animals, but many insects. Highlights were a giant spider, and the very best was the mantis walking stick ❤️❤️ sadly the way was too overgrown to make a path with the machete, so we had to go back. Still no anaconda. The sky over our house was clear from trees, and the sky was clear from clouds, so for the first time we saw the stars of the amazon 😱 it was so beatiful! So many stars! We are now in our beds, which are super thin matresses on a wooden floor and each has their own little moskito net. The house is build on poles and has no real walls. The walls are moskito nets. Everything is as loud as yesterday. Nina hopes she can sleep today. It started heavily raining around 03:00. It is even louder than the animals...But it was an "upgrade " to the day before. No tree roots in our backs this time 🤭 Czytaj więcej

  • Day 12

    16 stycznia, Peru ⋅ 🌧 24 °C

We woke up in the lodge and had breakfast. Toast with omelet and marmalade. Then we went on a walk through some river villages. All buildings have to be build 2 or 3 meters above ground, because from february to june? The water rises in the rivers really really high, 3 to 5 meters. We walked back, packed our stuff and had lunch. After lunch we were supposed to walk to a boat, but it started raining very heavily, so we waited a bit. After the rain we left. We walked through some other villages and saw a blue ara! We walked further to the last house on the river, were the family of our guide maxi lives. So beautiful and peacefully over there. The plants are so green and the river(one of the amazonas side rivers) is totally black, birds are all over the place and making sound. From there we got into a traditional boat, like a kanu, and rode (is it riding a boat? It is not sailing when a boat has no sail, right?) a bit along the river. After a while, when it started raining again, we landed and we made our camp directly in the amazonian rainforest next to the river (the yanayacu) First we made a roof from plastic, and also a floor, and then we put up two iglo tents. We had to make fire to cook our dinner, but all the wood was wet. Maxi went to get some benzin from the little motor of the boat, and tried to light the fire. After 3 tries it finally worked! Maxi brought some chicken and bananas to cook on the fire. After dinner (it was already completly dark and full of mosquitos) we went back on the kanu and explored the river by night. Frog sounds were everywhere but it was impossible to see them, they had too good carmouflage! Eike was really up to see the night creatures, like caimans and anacondas but unfortanally we were unlucky! Nina was a bit scared. But she did very well! After 20minutes we had to turn back to our camp because it was starting to rain. Nina saw, where we camped, 1000's of tiny eyes shine back from her flashlight. She looked a bit closer, and it tuned out to be many many spiders 🤭Then we went to sleep. For nina it was impossible to sleep, because the noise was so loud. Eike did sleep some times, and asked nina some weird questions in his dreams 🤭
We heard a lot of different birds that we did not hear before, and some big monkeys. Just to say, we slept on the ground without isomatte or matraze, no pillow or blanket. Haha. It was though. We are getting old 😛

  • Day 11

    16 stycznia, Peru ⋅ 🌧 24 °C

We left the hostel at 9:30, after the free breakfast that only was a tiny croissant with marmalade and a cup of tea, and met our guide for the jungle. We went with the mototaxi to belen market, and maxi (the guide) showed us all the different foods that came from the jungle. Many different fruits and fishes (piraña among others), grilled kaiman, and giant grilled maggots. We left quickly so sadly we couldn't try anything. Maybe later when we get back to iquitos. Then we went to the long boat that would take us to our first sleeping place in the base camp. We were not even 2 minutes on the river, and we got to see amazon grey dolphins! The river at iquitos merged into the amazon river, which was good to see because of the changing of colors of the water. The boat trip lasted one and a half hour when we arrived at a village. Here maxi showed us all the different plants and trees and what they are used for. Many medicinal plants against all kinds of problems too. At some point, when we were next to the river, a small long fishingboat arrived, and the two men on it were very exited. It turned out that they caught a ver very big catfish of about 60/70 kilos! The big ones like this normally live very deep in the river. We arrived at the base camp, hung up our moskito net, and chilled untill lunch. Lunch was great! We ate catfish 🤭 the humidity here is very high and we are sweating from every pore 🥵 we got some rainboots and went on our way to the jungle. Right around the corner of the base camp we saw a little tiny monkey. It was really really little tiny, because it was the smallest monkey in the world, the lion monkey ❤️ It was also there where Eike decided to take his boot off because it felt strange. It turned out he had a frog in his boot 😅 we walked further and at some point left the road and went straight into the jungle. Apart from the amazing trees and plants, we did not see any animals. Eike was anyway very very happy. It was clear he was living his dream 🥰
We also saw bright red mushrooms and mushrooms like strawberries. It started to rain mega hard, a real rainforest rainshower. The rain was great because it cooled down a bit and the moskitos left. But also all the other animals... Nevertheless it was a very nice experience to see the rainforest with and without rain. When the rain stopped, there were extremely many moskitos, and it got really annoying. The humidity also went up very quickly. Some 'ways' were flooded so maxi had to search other ways to that direction. He looked in the sky to see where we were. One step out of jungle, humidity dropped significantly again and the moskitos were gone. We were completely wet, but everything does not dry so quickly. We arrived at the base camp and put on some dry clothes. Dinner was served and the generator went on (3 hours every night). We were supposed to walk in jungle in night time, but is started raining heavily again, so we decided to postpone it. We took shower and went to bed. The souns were really nice. Many frogs and in the middle of night a monkey was screaming very loud.

  • Day 10

    12 stycznia, Peru ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

After a short few hours of sleep, we woke up at 2:30 and packed our stuff together. We walked to the pick up point of the llama airport taxi and went to the airport. Our plane to Iquitos left the ground right on time, and we had a window seat! Eike slept most of the way, but Nina had spectacular views from the window. Once we came near the amazon, the clouds came in and there was nothing to see anymore. When we landed, it was raining, which is not strange because it is rainy season here. We were picked up with a tuktuk, or also called mototaxi. It is very different over here, and it reminds me (Nina) a lot of vietnam. There are almost no cars, but a lot of mototaxis and motors. Once we put all our stuff in the extremely cheap hostel (€2,50 per night per person, including breakfast and swimmingpool), we went for a walk. We went into a market, which was not so spectacular because it was only for fruit and meat. Then we went to see the water side. We found a small alley that went to some really steep stairs down, and under it the walking path went further into heaps of wooden boards nailed together, with a lot of trash floating between. The road went futher around the corner, but there was a place where we could sit and drink a nice cold beer, so we stayed there. They played really really loud 90's eurodance. We sat there and watched the people walking on the floating walkway, and saw some crazy stuff. A man who was carrying a giant refrigerator on his back, another with a big pile of boxes with bananas, but the craziest was a man who was carrying a scooter, a motobike on his schoulders! And it was not like they only walked on the floating path, they all carried that stuff down that super steep, quite high stairs! We went back to the hostel, arranged a jungle tour for the next 4 days, and went to eat something. The rain had stopped and the sun came out, so the humidity got quite bad. It will get even worde in te jungle... 🤭 we drank some beer next to the pool with our feet in the water and that helped. We met a german guy, who invited us for kaffee und kuchen, which was nice. We saw our first gecko of this trip finally! 🦎
P.S. there are a lot of people here doing ayahuasca tourism. A lot of hippies. They meet a sjaman and pay a lot of money, and then go into the jungle and do ayahuasca. Or a new trendy thing aparently is, letting yourself be injected with frog poison and then vomit all your insides out, and that is then considered 'a clensing'

We went, after breakfast, to the center with the bus. After walking around the plaza meyor, we met with Teo. Then we were walking around the plaza meyor with Teo 🤭 but he also showed us the river, which used to be much bigger, and was very important to the inca. The river was talking. We also went to a museum (costa quanta? Nada.) With a lot of old ceramics, all the money that they used to have (including before the colonisers came), and some jewelry. It was very interesting and impressive. The bottles were amazing. Eike liked the money before there was metal including. The money was made of plantas. Simple!
We ate something, where the waiter was really really interested in us, and asked for eikes instagram accont, or eikes facebook. Eike had to dissapoint him, because he had neither. Then we went to a small punk shop, where the owner was also the bass player of Teo's band Krizziz. We bought some patches (self made diy). We left and met Chaska, and went to see a football game. "We" lost with 2-1.
We were supposed to go to a concert, but it turned out that it was in another, far away district of lima. We spend the evening drinking beer in a bar with some more friends of Teo. It was gezellig. So gezellig, that we were home at 03:30.

  • Day 6

    9 stycznia, Peru ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Sorry for the late pinguin. It is now, on the moment of writing, the beginning of day 7. We had a very long day yesterday, that started with breakfast from the supermarket, and bringing our dirty laundary to Mr. Jeff. After that we booked a flight to iquitos for monday morning. That means we will be in the jungle soon! We also booked two beds in a hostel for two nights, with breakfast included and a swimmingpool, that costs us in total... 10 euro! Let's see how that will be 🤭
When we booked everything, it was 13:00 and we left to go to the city. We were going to meet our friend Chaska at 17:00, so we drank a few cold beers first (also one in the irish pub, where we got a card for a free drink in the irish pub in cuzco. Thanks Sarah and Marcus for this tip!). Chaska took us with a pirate taxi to another part of lima, which was actually more nice than the area we are staying, because it was more 'normal'. Where we are staying is a little bit too tidy and posh for our taste 🤭 we met with some of her friends, Maxi and Teo, and we went to hang out on the street. It was really nice. Chaska left, and we went with maxi and teo to maxis house. It was a big beautiful building that looked like a squat. But going to the toilet , you needed to be with 2 people, because one of the dogs was... not so friendly... and maxi would keep the dog away. Then we went to a hidden pool/billiard bar, behind a closed mall. It was a big hall with bright light, white walls and 20 pool tables. Around 01:00 we wanted to go to sleep, so maxi and teo took us to a taxi. We set on a price of 20 sol (it was quite far) and when we got there, the driver didnt want to take any bills, because they all had mini rips (scheurtjes, risse) of 3 mm in them. Super annoying. In the end, after trying to give him 4 different forms of 20 sol, Nina just pushed 20 sol in his hand and we left the car. We don't know what he wanted. It was really weird. At 01:30 we were 'home' and went to sleep. On saturday there will be a punk concert with 6 bands from all over Latin America. Ofcourse we will be checking it out! Punx not dead! 🤘🐔

  • Day 5

    7 stycznia, Peru ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We started the day with a short walk (we saw a woman walking her pig) and had an expensive egg and avocado bread and coffee for breakfast. There was a cat who smelled eikes hand, and then jumped straight on his lap and fell asleep in 2 seconds 😊 then we went on a walk and ended up on top of the cliffs at the seaside. It was really beautiful and we saw some pelicans (they are huge!) And some birds of prey, of which we don't know yet what they are. The sun came out, and since we didn't find any sunglasses in alajuela (nobody seems to wear sunglasses there 🤷‍♀️, we went on a quest to find some here. It took a while, but we finally found some affordable ones! At 11:30 we went to drink a beer (yay! Vacation!). We went 'home' and bought a nice, ripe mango and ate it in our room. Mangos taste sooo much better here! 🧡 Then we left and went to the seaside again, but at sea level this time. On the way down we saw some dolfins, who were having dinner. That is what it looked like, since there were some birds hovering above them. Nina got a bit of sunburn. The peruvian people in lima like to surf. 🤙It is every day every busy with surfing people. We got a bit hungry and found a little restaurant that was not really aimed for tourists. There were no pictures, just a list of foods. We decided we wanted to eat fish, and randomly picked one of the three dishes that had fish in it. We got a nice simple plate with fish, rice and beans (peas? Lentils?), and Eike said it was one of the best fishes he ever ate. Maybe it was mackerel 🤷‍♀️ it was also really cheap. When we were full, we went back to our room and chilled after so much walking. Nina made some pics with her camera, so for the pinguins, there are some pics of pics on ninas camera 😅 Czytaj więcej

  • Day 4

    6 stycznia, Peru ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

This morning we woke up at 4:15, to go to the airport. It was a good idea to go early, because the airport was super full of people again, who all needed to go through security. But we managed everything perfectly. Our first plane went to panama, and was perfectly on time, so we could easily walk to our gate, where we were exactly on time and could go straight into our next plane, to lima. Panama looked really beautiful from the sky. Lima looked more like a desert from the sky 🤭 from lima airport, we took the airport express bus, which was not even 4 euro, and walked a bit to our hotel. During the bus ride we saw some big pelicans at the sea side. After 11 hours travelling we took a shower because we were very hot and sweaty in this 27°, and then went out to get some food (chinese today). The park where we were, still had a lot of christmas decoration, including snowflakes 🤭 in the park there were also a lot of cats, and when we passed, a group of young people were there feeding them all. They had plates for all the cats and big bags of food. The cats were all patiently waiting to get their plates. Then we went back to our hotel and saw some big cucarachas on the way. The clima here smells nice so we think we will stay a week in Lima till we want ro go to the amazonas rain forest😃 Czytaj więcej

  • Day 3

    5 stycznia, Kostaryka ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We got woken up at 9.30 in the morning, because the birds we so loud outside. But it was anyway time to get up. 😊
We went to the supermarket and got us some vanilla coffee. Time went by while we were exploring the city of Alajuela. For Lunch we ate some steamed filled bread with vegetables and some fancy ice tea. Mucho Rico! After more walking and sunshine we had to find a charching cable for ninas camera (she forgot at home) we tried to find one back in germany on the day before our trip started. No chance! But here it was no problem to get a new one. No problemo! Today was more chill so we decided to drink some cerveza in a local bar. But not too many, because we had to organize more stuff for the next days in lima, peru! We could manage everything. Later in the evening we got some fries for dinner. Now we spend the rest of the day in the hostel, watching some documentary about peru in spanish, get a shower and pack our bags again. Wake up time will be 4.30 cause our transport to the airport will pick us up at 5.00 in the Morning. In the end it was an exciting start in Latin America. Sunshine and new expressions... now is time to rest! Czytaj więcej

  • Day 2

    5 stycznia, Kostaryka ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

Today we woke up in montreal around 04:00, because of jetlag. Then we went out for coffee at 06:00, with -20. Fun fact: places that say they are open 24/7, are not always open 24/7! Then we went back to the hotel and waited untill it was breakfast time. We ate something, and then took a nap. At 11:00 we checked out, but left our bags at the hotel. We went to eat icecream outside. The scoops were a bit bigger than we thought so the icecreams were really big, but tasty. When you eat ice in temperatures like here, the ice doesn't melt and you can easily put it aside and eat later 🤭 the ice was not that bad, but our hands were really freezing from holing it. After that we walked around, drank a coffee and ate poutine, a typical canadian dish. We picked up our bags and left for the airport. Today everything went smooth but getting out of san jose airport took us 2,5 hours because of high season. Luckily our driver was still waiting. Eike could talk spanish for the first time with a local. Our 'hotel' seems like it is a touroperator office, who rent out a room on the side. It is 02:11 (and 21°) so time to sleep! Buenos noches!
Ps: in montreal all dogs wear shoes, and some even pants and hats against the cold 😊

  • Day 1

    3 stycznia, Kanada ⋅ ☁️ -16 °C

Today we left Tübingen at 6:33. The Deutsche Bahn had no problems so we arrived 4 hours before our departure (13:15) on Frankfurt airport. Everything was fine, untill it was 12:30, and our plane got delayed. We only had 1,5 hours transfer time, but now we would only have 45 minutes. We were all on the plane very quickly, but then we had to wait for some reason... the airplane left the ground at 15:15, and our gate in munchen would close at 15:50, and the plane would leave at 16:05. We landed in munchen at 15:51, and then we still had to go to the building with the bus. Then we started running. Running up stairs, downstairs, into a train, and some more running up a lot of stairs. Untill we found the gate, and they still let us in! It was 16:04 when we were in the plane to montreal! 2 hours later we arrived in montreal! The longest two hours of our lives 🤭 then we went trough pasport control, and because we had only two not so big backpacks, and 3 months of travelling ahead, we got a note with a red number on it, and we had to go to the back to get our bags checked and some extra questions. Grrr! But then we finally made it outside of the airport, where it was -13° and we went on a bus towards the center. We did not prepare very well, so we had no internet and no google maps to find the adress of the hotel 😅 we left the bus somewhere and started walking. After 10 minutes walking we found a map, and the street where the hotel was, and it turned out that it was not so far away. We managed our first quest of the adventure! Then we went to drop our stuff, and went to get something to eat. Now we are back in the room and it is here 22:44 now, but for us it is 04:44, so time to sleep! Not so many photos of today.
