      Wallaby et Cie

      Hello les amis 👋🏼
      Ce matin, nous avons fait un grand nettoyage de printemps dans notre nouvelle maison.
      Nous sommes allés dans un sanctuaire de wallabies semi-libres, de diables de Tasmanie, de wombats, de Qualls et de grands faucons.
      Comme des enfants nous avons nourri les wallabies, c'était un moment magique de pouvoir les caresser et d'être si proche d'eux.
      Avant de rentrer à la ferme, nous sommes allés à Meander (heureusement que nous avions un 4x4) car l’accès était pas mal compliqué. C'était un point de vue magnifique et nous avons marqué notre passage en Tasmanie sur la roche.      Read more

      Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary

      Da mir üs scho glii uf diversi Wanderigä begäbä, wei mir vorbereitet si, drum si mir hüt i Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary gangä zum chli öbbis über d Tasmanischi Tüüflä z lernä. O di Tour isch wieder mau sehr ufschlussriich gsi u mir hei ä huufä glernt. U mir hei mau ä sones Tüüfeli dörfä striichelä. Erstuunlicherwiis isch z fälli vo denä mega fiin u weich 😃

      Näbscht Tüüfeli hei mir onu Wombat (dörfä striichelä 😍), Eastern Grey Kangaroos, Spotted-tail Quoll, Eastern Quoll, Potoroo, Kookaburra u nu ganz viu angeri Vögel gseh. Umä gha häts aber nu jehnschti angeri tasmanischi Tier, wo mir aber leider nid gseh hei. U vom Pademelon hei mir leider nur 1/4 gseh, wo grad dä Tüüfeli gfüetteret wordä isch 🤦🏼‍♀️

      Aaschliessend si mir nu id Melita Honey Farm 🍯 gangä. Dert het mä 40 verschiednigi Honig chönnä probierä, unger angerem Himbeer-Honig, Mandel-Honig, Manuka-Honig, Schoggie-Honig, Chili-Honig u nu ä huufä angeri. Di meischtä si aber nid so nach üsem gschmack gsi 😬 Zum probierä hei mir ä Nougat-Stängel kouft mit tasmanischem Honig, wo mir bedi würk sehr gärn gha hei.
      Ds Ambiente i derä Honey Farm isch aber super gsi, mä het aues becho dert, eifach i Bienli-Art . Usserdäm hets im Ladä innä nu äs eigets Biendli-Volk gha, womä chli het chönnä beobachtä.

      Ufem heiwäg hei mir nu ä churzä Zwüschästopp in Deloraine gmacht, wo mir si äs Kaffee gah trinkä.

      Day 53

      Just one more 🤭

      It was a bright and sunny day when I looked out of the window this morning - thus a perfect day for one more hike ⛰️😆🥾
      Since I had to go back to Launceston today anyways I picked a summit on the way and hiked Mount Roland. I actually thought about doing this hikes 3 times now, so today was the day. 😀
      There are 2 ways up to the top...a longer and slightly elevated one, and a shorter but steeper one. I guess it's pretty clear which one I went for 😅
      It was a good hike, actually steeper than I thought it'd be, with a couple of rocks to boulder and a steady incline for almost 2 hours. But I really enjoyed it 😊 and the view was good as well, so it's been worth it! 🤩
      Full of motivation I continued to Mount Vandyke, which wasn't very special, and then headed back down.
      I was so happy about doing the hike, distracted by the surrounding and wrapped up in my thoughts that I almost missed the signs for a date with the man with the hammer 🔨 🥴 Luckily I still had some fruit in my backpack which saved me from being all to weak-kneed on the way down 👍🏼
      Really liked to have a longer (5h) and a bit challenging hike this time! 🥰
      Afterwards just drove back to Launceston, checked in to another capsule hostel & did some planning for my time in Australia 😊

      Day 119

      Scouts in the rainforest

      Cradle Mountain —> Mole Creek

      Wir wachen an unserem wunderschönen wilden Camp Spot auf und entdecken ein kleines süßes Schnabeltier. Super interessante eierlegende Säugetiere (und auch giftig, wie wir gelernt haben), die es wirklich nur hier in Australien gibt. Es schwimmt vor uns im Wasser auf und ab und sieht beim Schwimmen eher tollpatschig als anmutig aus.
      Der Himmel ist grau und soll es auch den ganzen Tag bleiben, bestes Wetter für eine Regenwaldwanderung, denn durch das dichte Grün würden eh keine Sonnenstrahlen gelangen. Schon die Anreise zum Startpunkt der Wanderung ist eine Herausforderung für sich, denn wir bleiben auf einem matschigen Pfad mitten im Wald fernab von Handyempfang direkt erstmal stecken mit Tasha. Wolf schafft es souverän uns rückwärts wieder heraus zu manövrieren, und als wir den langen Sandweg mit unserem Camper endlich geschafft haben, kann es ja nur besser werden. So ist es zunächst auch…
      Der Regenwald ist zauberhaft mit seinen fast 2.000 Jahre alten King Billy Pines. Jeder Stein und jeder Baum ist knallgrün und mit dickem Moos überzogen. Der Track hingegen fühlt sich an, als wurde er vor vielen Jahren das letzte Mal belaufen. Überall hängen Spinnennetze und keiner von uns beiden will vorne laufen und den Weg “freizuräumen”. Wir treffen auf viele umgefallene Bäume und Äste, es wird immer schwerer sich durch den Weg zu kämpfen bzw. diesen überhaupt zu finden. Schließlich gelangen wir zu einem beeindruckenden Wasserfall, die 150 m hohen Winterbrook Falls.
      Der Rückweg über einen anderen Pfad gestaltet sich leider ziemlich frustrierend. Die Büsche sind hier so zugewachsen, dass wir uns regelrecht durchkämpfen müssen. Zwischen den Büschen warten zusätzlich Schlammlöcher auf uns und nach einer gefühlten Ewigkeit kommen wir mit pitschnassen Sachen und Schuhen wieder am Ausgangspunkt an. Puuuh… toller Wald, toller Wasserfall, aber hier sollte sich dringend mal wieder ein Ranger um den Pfad kümmern. Die heiße Dusche am Campingplatz von Mole Creek haben wir bitter nötig.       OTR: Mural Town … Sheffield

      From Deloraine, we headed to the town of Sheffield. That it was on our way to CMNP was a good thing. But we would have detoured for this one if necessary. You see, Sheffield is “The Town of Murals.” With over 100 pieces of artwork on display, it is part of Tasmania’s “Outdoor Art Gallery.”

      The backstory to the murals goes back to 1986 when a group of locals wanted to find a way to save their town from economic hardship. A couple of the members had seen a documentary about a town in Canada — Chemainus — that had turned things around and made their town a tourist destination by painting murals on the walls of buildings. With a ready-made audience of Cradle Mountain bus tours stopping in Sheffield to use the public toilets, the town leaders decided to follow in the footsteps of Chemainus. And the rest, as they say, is history.

      We started out at the Mural Park. With some 30+ colorful works in one place, I was in mural heaven. I liked that each one had a cover over it to protect it from the elements. A quick in/out at the Art Gallery near the park. And then Mui pulled out the mural walking map and guided me around town to find the murals scattered all around the streets. I didn’t photograph them all … but came darn close to it.

      At about the halfway point, we stopped in at a café recommended by a local to get some meat pies for lunch. The flavor we wanted wasn’t out of the oven yet. The counter clerk checked and said they had 7 minutes to go … and promised to save us a couple when we said we’d go search for some more murals while we waited. Good thing she did. We were barely seated when a tour group packed the place.

      What a delightful time we had in Sheffield. Not even the wind that was a-blowin’ made a dent in our pleasure in seeing all the colorful art around town.      Read more

      Sheffield and Overland

      Sheffield is genuinely so cute. It is called the town of murals and I love them all. We were only there for a little bit so I didnt get to see many which is very disappointing. I'm gonna try and go back there while I'm in tassie, see the murals properly.

      From there we drove down to Cradle Mountain. It is genuinely massive. Most of the group decided to climb up to the look out, I chose to wander the beginning if the Overland track.

      The Overland track is something I have considered doing but clearly do not have the physical willpower. It is a 7 day hike across the wilderness. A vibe but one I will maybe try in a few years. Once I have a better stamina and have done all the fun things you can do in this world!      Read more

      Zersch si mir vom Lake Dove zum Lake Lilla überägloffä u vo dert us wiiter zum Wombat Pool (leider hei mir ke Wombat gseh, nur ä Echidna). Vo dert us isches när düruf gangä zum Crater Lake, vo wo mä ä super Ussicht uf di angerä Seeä gha het 😃. När isches wiiter zum Marion Lookout gangä, wos mau gredi z Loch uf gangä isch u mä ä chliinä Teil nu het müessä Chlätterä 😅. Dobä aacho hei mir d Ussicht gnossä, nur zum när erfahrä, dass mir ersch i dr heufti si u dr Lookout nu wiiter obä isch 🤦🏼‍♀️ Drum hei mir üs grad ufä wiiterwäg gmacht u si zum eigentlichä Lookout ufä, was sich total glohnt het😊.

Mirä Meinig nach isches ä super umentscheidig gsi, isch nämlich wunderschön gsi 😍
      Uf däm Wäg isch nu äs Schlängeli glägä, wo trotz stampfä nid wäg het wöuä. Dr Christian hets de när doch nu gschafft sä chönnä z vertriebä 😅.

      Day 33

      Endlich mal ernüchternd

      Unser heutiger Ausflug führt uns zum Cradle Mountain, dem Wanderhighlight Tasmaniens. Ähnlich wie im Tongariro Nationalpark entscheiden wir uns für die zweitbeste und weitaus einfachere Strecke. Doch diesmal haben wir weniger Glück: Zum einen spielt das Wetter nicht mit, die Sonne schickt nur vereinzelt ein paar Strahlen durch die ziemlich dichte Wolkendecke. Und zum anderen wird schnell klar, dass hier weit mehr Menschen unterwegs sind als wir das gewohnt sind. Auf dem Parkplatz vorm Visitor Center parken Hunderte von Fahrzeugen - Autos, Camper, Tourbusse - und selbst ein Hubschrauber ist zu sehen. Das Besucherzentrum ist keine einfache Blockhütte, sondern wirkt eher wie der Eingangsbereich eines großen Kinokomplexes: sechs geöffnete Kassen mit dem typischen Zick-Zack-Absperrband, mit dem man versucht Menschenmengen zu ordnen. Es gibt ein Cafe, einen Souvenirshop, ein kleines Reisebüro zum Buchen von geführten Touren, Unterkünften und ja, auch von Hubschrauberflügen. Quasi alles, was unser Herz so gar nicht begehrt.

      Wir machen uns trotzdem auf den Weg zu unserer Runde um den Dove Lake. Zum Ausgangspunkt unserer Wanderung bringt uns ein Shuttle für umgerechnet etwa 10 EUR pro Kopf. Danach führt ein Rundweg um den See. Nüchtern betrachtet ist das ein wirklich sehr schönes Fleckchen Erde, doch fühlt sich das Wandern auf dem perfekt angelegten Weg halt so gar nicht nach Abenteuer an. Und dass man an einigen Stellen zwischen amerikanischen Touristen mit Chipstüte und ein paar Asiaten mit Nikon und Wanderstöcken quasi Rüssel an Schwanz den Weg beschreitet, tut sein Übriges. Statt noch eine kleine Tour durch ein Stückchen Regenwald dranzuhängen, machen wir uns auf dem Heimweg. Und als wir dann endlich wieder zu unserem rustikalen Bungalow in der Mitte von Nirgendwo abbiegen, begrüßen uns die heimischen Alpakas schon mit neugierig gereckten Hälsen. Das ist schön.       Cradle Mountain Hike

      Today I drove up to Cradle Mountain to do some hiking.

      I had a hike planned, but I knew there was a yellow weather warning in place for strong winds. When I bought my entrance ticket, the lady asked about my walk to Marions Lookout, she said there was a weather warning and it would be too windy. She also said it was about -3C with the wind chill. She then said, "so it will be memorable!"

      So I went ahead with it and it was windy. The weather changed from light rain to cloudy to sunny and back around again, but it ended up being a nice day.

      Managed to complete the walk and it was made more fun/memorable with the wind... also saw some Wombats!      Read more

      Dove Lake

      Honestly so pretty. The sun reflecting off the lake, shining off the fields and along the mountain. Lovely.

      The path led through trees and down to little beaches on the lakeside. A very enjoyable solo walk.

      I finished a little early and the guys climbing up were still a hot minute away so I decided to join the girls at the lodge. Very expensive and not somewhere I could afford to actually stay or eat but had a great view.

      Once back at the bus I devoured the pizza I had saved from my dinner last night. Perfect.      Read more
