      Last day in Prague

      Today was our last day in Prague and we had a nice relaxing time. We headed up to Petrin Hill on a funicular and went to the Mirror maze - it was cute. Wish it would have been harder, but still fun. Then we stopped at the Petrin Tower, Prague’s attempt to duplicate the Eiffel Tower. Built slightly differently and MUCH smaller, but neat to see. We also toured the beautiful rose gardens and then took the funicular back down.

      After that we headed back to the Head of Franz Kafka to see if it was working today, and found it was - kind of. There are 42 moving plates, and sadly 2 of them didn’t rotate. Still saw the gist of it, but the broken pieces didn’t allow it to do all it was supposed to do. If you google it you can see it working correctly.

      Then we headed thru the city for one last look. Everywhere we go we see Starbucks - it’s amazing how they are different in each old city and morph right in with the surroundings.

      Prague is definitely a beautiful place - and their public transportation system is the best we’ve seen yet. The US has a long way to go to catch up with the rest of the world it seems.      Read more

      Prag

      Angekommen in Prag, kämpften wir uns durch den riesigen Bahnhof. Endlich hatten wir den Regionalzug gefunden, welcher uns zu unserem Hotel bringen sollte. Ganz sicher waren wir uns nicht. Der Zug war in die Jahre gekommen, eng und alles krachte. Es stellte sich heraus, dass es der richtige Zug war.

      Im Hotel eingecheckt, gab es eine zehnminütige Siesta. Dann starteten wir in Richtung Innenstadt, liefen über die Karlsbrücke und suchten uns ein schönes Restaurant. Nach einen kurzen Verdauungsspaziergang, welcher sehr notwendig war, weil das Kaninchen und die Semmelknödel schwer im Magen lagen, rückten wir in die Nightmare Horror Bar ein. Diese hielt was sie versprach. Dunkel, überall gruselige Gestalten (einschließlich Kellner) und lecker Cocktails.

      Dann ging es bei Sonnenuntergang, Blick auf die Moldau und Prags Silhouette im Hintergrund zurück in unser Hotel 🏨.      Read more

      Day 7!
      We woke up in Vienna and went to the train station to leave our rucksacks. Our first stop was the Belvedere palace, where the national gallery is and Gustav Klimt’s “the kiss” that I really really wanted to see! It’s my favourite painting so I was excited to see it up close. We got there, walked around the garden of the palace, got our tickets for the upper Belvedere and walked around to see the paintings.
      They were all beautiful, there was also a Van Gogh one too and the Klimt exhibition was spectacular. I loved all the colours and especially “the kiss”. ❤️
      After that we went to the gift shop and I got a bag with the famous painting on it. We left the gallery and went looking around the shops. When we went to leave one of the shops, it was poring with rain and we had to buy an umbrella cause we didn’t have anything suitable with us😬.
      We walked around Vienna for a bit longer. We also went to the Fenster cafe to have a “fensterchinno”, it’s a cappuccino in an ice cream cone! Very different, and the coffee was delicious. We then headed to a lovely park in the city to walk a bit around, and visited a big shopping centre.
      The time was passing and we had to board our train to Prague Czech Republic. The duration was 4h 30m. When we got there we had 10 minutes to check in the hostel, so Lampros ran in-front and left me a little bit behind. When we got to the hostel there was a problem with our reservation - the guy there didn’t have our reservation and couldn’t check us in, even though we had paid for it and had an email for confirmation. The situation wasn’t like what we had booked, so we decided to leave, go somewhere else and ask for our money back through booking.com. We were tired and it was late so found another hotel, showered and slept! Another day tomorrow in Prague🇨🇿      Read more

      Hello from Nuremberg!
      We woke up today in Prague, Czech Republic. Our checkout wasn’t till 12:00 so we left our rucksacks and went in to town. First we had breakfast at a small caffè with croissants that were super fresh!
      Then we went and explored. First we visited the Old town square, a beautiful central part of the medieval town of Prague. There, you can see Prague’s astronomical clock, it’s been there since the 15th century and still works with it’s old mechanism. This makes it the world’s third oldest astronomical clock, and the first to still work!
      We went up to see the view and it was beautiful. Then we headed for Charles bridge, which was built in 1357 by the then king (I don’t remember his name😂) and is full of beautiful statues. On there, locals set benches for selling their art pieces or handcrafted jewellery. We then headed to the palace, on a small hill opposite Charles bridge. We climbed up 287 steps to the top of the chapel St. Vitus, and again the view was spectacular!

      Heute besuche ich die tschechische Hauptstadt und brauche dabei selten eine Karte, denn ich kann mich in den großen Touristenströme von einer Sehenswürdigkeit zur nächsten treiben lassen.
      In einigen engeren Straßen wirken die Menschenmengen erdrückenden und leider sind die Erdgeschosse der schönen Altbauten häufig mit billigen Touristenfallen vollgestopft. Dafür bieten die großzügigen Plätze in der Altstadt und vor der Burg Raum zum durchatmen und eine sehr schöne Bebauung ringsum.
      Inmitten der steinernen Straßenschluchten, erscheint der streng formale Wallenstein Garten wie eine grüne Oase, die mir Schatten und Wasser spendet. Auch entlang der Moldau gibt es etwas Grün und ihre zahlreichen Brücken bieten tolle Ausblicke auf die Stadtsilhouetten.      Read more

      Entspannter Tag in Prag

      Kunst, Kultur und Burger

      17 Drei Nüsse für....

      Tschechien, das Reich der Märchen. Nach ein paar Tagen Spätsommer werden wir hier mit saftigen Anstiegen (für märchenhaft stramme Waden) und heftigen Regengüssen (wie die Tränenbäche vom kleinen Maulwurf) verwöhnt. Nichts desto trotz, Tschechien gefällt uns ausserordentlich gut. Die Landschaft ist abwechslungsreich und die Menschen begegnen uns sehr freundlich und offen. Einziger Wermutstropfen, immer diese Kümmelsamen im Brot 😝.

      Wie immer sind unsere Pläne so launenhaft wie das herbstliche Wetter. Kurzerhand schmeissen wir unser mögliches Ziel Wien über Bord, reissen das Ruder rum und stechen mal wieder in den Gegenwind Richtung Südosten (eben doch masochistisch veranlagt???). Hier führen alle Wege nach Prag, also geben wir uns Kulturmuffeln einen Ruck und stellen uns auf einen Tag Sightseeing ein. Viele Stadtbummelkilometer, ein beeindruckendes Schloss, eine alte Steinbrücke, viele imposante historische Gebäude, ein Gulasch im Brottopf und zwei Trdelník (heisses, sehr leckeres Gebäck) später sind wir der Meinung, dass Prag eine wirklich wunderschöne Stadt und alle mal einen Besuch Wert ist.

      Fast zu schnell, lassen wir das Märchenland hinter uns und kommen langsam wieder in bekanntere Gefilde. Servus Bayern. Auch hier verstehen wir die Einheimischen nicht immer im ersten Anlauf, aber es ist erstaunlich schön, dass wir mal wieder alle Schilder und Speisekarten lesen können.      Read more
