Ottendorf stopover was in a village car park beside a primary school. Despite it being busy, the atmosphere was very relaxed, with parents cycling to school and cycling away beside their children.
3km away was the North Sea, linked to the village via a well maintained and flat cycle track. Will went for a swim when the tide was in but the next day when Vicky went along too, the tide was out and the sea a somewhat muddy trek down the beach. We walked as far as the signs that warned of strong currents and drowning but the shelf of the beach was so shallow and the mud so deep we thought it better to just dip our toes in the sea and have a swim in the recreational lake nearby instead! Like Sander See, it had a diving platform and we had lots of fun making use of it!Read more
