    Saltstraumen Maelstrom

    Nachdem wir gestern gegen 24:00 Uhr mit der Fähre in Bødo ankamen und umsonst noch bis 2 Uhr vergeblich nach Aurora Ausschau gehalten hatten, ging es heute gegen Mittag zu einem der ungewöhnlichsten Naturschauspiele Norwegens - Der Gezeitenstrom Saltstraumen -
    Durch den Wechsel der Gezeiten, ergießt sich der Fjord ins Meer und hierdurch kommt es zum grössten Strudel der Welt.

    Designated Driver war Jeanette, welche gestern etwas mehr Schlaf und weniger Borealis Wache gehabt hatte - Linda brauchte erst mal 3 Kaffees - wie genau machen das Eltern mit Kleinkindern? Nach 4 Nächten kein oder stundenweisem Schlaf bis 2 Uhr sind wir schon nudelfertig…
    aber jetzt zum Sightseeing:

    Nachdem wir gegen Wind mit der Geschwindigkeit von 20m/s auf der Brücke über den Fjord ankämpften, hatten wir einen überragenden Blick auf die Strudel.
    Es war beeindruckend wie die verschiedenen Flussläufe ineinander flossen und dieses Schauspiel ermöglichen. Man könnte stundenlang zuschauen (und Videos drehen in Lindas Fall 😂)

    Dank der noch kurz in der Wartezeit erstandenen Norwegischen Wind- und Wetterhosen zum Schnäppchenpreis von €40-70 😲 war es auch gar nicht so kalt 🥳😅

    Nach einem warmen Tee und Sandwiches (wir lieben unseren Bus, die Kochbische und Standheizung!!) ging die wilde Fahrt weiter in Süden der Küste entlang.    Läs mer

    Kystriksveien

    „take the long road home“ was the motto of the day as we left the lemming tourists on the E6 and took the Lv17 down the coast instead. The Kystveien is one of the eight national „tourist scenic roads“ as defined by the Norwegians.
    This is probably our third or fourth time on such a road and we were not disappointed. It included majestic drives alongside Fjords, view of several glaciers and two ferry rides.
    You do have to bring a bit of time, especially in the off season the longer ferry routes don’t run as often… but if Norway has done one thing for us it is to slow down and just take it ferry by ferry, day by day. 😁
    For the night we stayed at a proper campsite „Polar Camp“ with electricity for once! Only to almost be blown off by the winds and rain. No chance to catch a glimpse of any stars or Aurora… The Norwegian weather we had heard off seems to have caught up with us.
    Not that bad, we have a big leg of driving ahead of us tomorrow to Trondheim. This means we are definitely leaving the arctic circle and heading South in big steps again.    Läs mer

    Hell & Trondheim by night

    Nach 600km im Auto und hinter dem Steuer, haben wir unseren Stellplatz für die Nacht im Hafen von Trondheim gefunden.
    Hier hatten wir sogar nochmals etwas Glück und konnten, zwar hinter einer Wolkendecke, einen Blick auf die extrem starke Aurora Borealis werfen… aber auch nur einen Blick.Läs mer

    Trondheim

    23 september 2021, Norge ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

    Frühstück gab es, entgegen unserer bisherigen Morgenroutine :), im God Brøt- anschließend ging es durch die unglaubliche Altstadt und zur Nidaros Domkirche.
    Wir brauchten fast ein 45 Minuten durch die Altstadt, da sich hinter fast jeder Ecke ein tolles Fotomotiv ergab und Linda ihre Kamera immer wieder zückte und drauf hielt.
    Für das Mittagessen kehrten wir direkt am Hafen, neben der Fischerstatur, im Ravnkloa ein.
    Für Linda gab es einen riesigen Krabbensalat und für mich die Fischsuppe. Beides würde frisch zubereitet und schmeckte hervorragend.    Läs mer

    Atlanterhavsvegen -Atlantic Scenic Route

    After a night in Halså we set out for our next Scenic Route - I had to argue this one with Jeanette „we‘ve seen enough bridges and coastline drives“, but even if the weather was not promising I had to see it (with strong wind the wave gushes would be epic!).
    The weather was windy, cloudy and rainy - I fully suspected it would be only a little picture taking. But we got super lucky: as we got to the parking spots and vorweint platform at the first bridge and walked around the special built way the skies cleared and some sun started to shine through and the wind died down. It lasted just enough for a short drone flight and some pictures - as you can see back in the car ride it started raining again - perfect timing!!!
    The bridges are really impressive - especially from birds and side view.
    Next stop was the town Molde. On our trip we had fallen in love with the Sport Outlet shop- we had been to two already and we saw they had a SkiErg (a cardio machine that mimics skating) which is an exact copy of the Concept2 for a steal of €500. Can it be any good? Does it have to be great for that price? Well, can a nation of skaters live with a brand that wouldn’t make a good one? We didn’t think so. So we checked online and this store had one in stock. We made the poor lady dig it out of the storage. She also informed us today is a great day as you get any one item for 50% off in this store today - we should sign up for an online store card & account.
    Wait, did we just get a €1200 machine for €250?!? - We only had to completely repack the camper as it filled 85% of our under bed storage - but we did in the pouring rain.
    We treated ourselves to some lunch from the Eurospar (whose parking and shelter we had used) and set off towards our next goal ( Geiranger) to knock 2hrs driving off of the clock today. We used a tunnel that went under the airport and ocean! They build crazy stuff here!    Läs mer

    Trollstigen - Stairway to Heaven?

    Did I mention they build crazy streets here? Well, this one, Trollstigen (troll‘s stairs) takes the cake.
    We got up really early this day as the forecast had snow - not a good combo of you want to go over 2 passes… but it looked like once again the forecast was wrong. But the early start gave us the whole street all to ourselves. No car to pass or to cross.
    Spectacular, breathtaking, impressive… it’s hard to put into words the zig zag of a road going up this mountain side. There are at least a dozen waterfalls going over and under and all around the hairpin curves, and that is not even counting mini waterfalls!
    The biggest one that carved the main flank of the wall is the most impressive though. you drive right over it on a small bridge about 2/3 up (see portrait format picture).
    We took our time and enjoyed having the round and the sights for us - at the top parking we did see 1 other car and 2 campers that looked like they had spent the night. they had done a great job of setting this lovely viewpoint into scene. It must have been a fancy architect and he did a good job here of incorporating the elements and letting nature be the main character, not his structure… but juxtapose as well as accentuate the dramatic backdrop. And: he had done a much better job at building the gangway in a way so you could get the best view and picture- even if you had other tourists around.     Geiranger Fjord

    „The king of Fjords“

    Dieser Fjord wurde seinem Beinamen wirklich gerecht - rechts und links zwischen dem sich schlängelnden Flusslauf ragen zwei riesige Klippen hinauf und umschließen das kleine Dörfchen Gereinger.
    Der Blick in den Fjord von unserem ersten Standort (Bild 1) war hierbei noch fast beeindruckender als die Fahrt durch den Fjord. Man konnte mit einem Blick von Gereinger nach Hellesylt schauen. Die gerade im Fjord befindlichen Fähren waren hierbei so winzig, dass man sie fast hätte übersehen können.

    Eigentlich hatten wir geplant mit der Fähre an einer Seite der Flusses anzulegen und die Tour zu einem der ältesten und abgelegensten Bauernhöfe zu laufen. Leider war das Wetter vorher und in der Nacht so schlecht, dass die ganzen Wege extrem aufgeweicht und matschig waren, sodass wir uns dagegen entschieden.

    Nachdem wir unseren Weg mit dem Auto fortsetzten, fuhren wir erneut im Zickzack die Bergstraße hinauf und konnten am Ende von dieser auf wunderschöne, kristallklare und blaue Seen zwischen grünen-gelb und grau erstrahlenden Bergen erblicken. Dies war wahrlich beeindrucken, vor allem wenn man bedenkt wie viele Seen und Berge wir bereits gesehen haben :)    Läs mer
