      A la tombée de la nuit, sous l'orage, la pluie et le vent nous attendons de pied ferme les petits pingouins en bord de plage. 🥶
      Et d'un coup, vers 21h quelque chose bouge dans l'eau 🤩🤩 4 petits pingouins sont en train de nager vers la plage pour venir voir leurs nids !!
      On les vois se sécher (tant bien que mal vu le temps!) Et marcher jusqu'au rocher, où on entend les bébés crier (mais on ne les vois pas!)

      2. Nacht in Timaru

      Wir kommen gegen 17:00 in Timaru an. Es gibt zwei Freedom Campgrounds. Einer neben dem Container-Hafen, dafür in Zentrumsnähe ("Caroline Bay"), der andere weiter im Süden, in der Nähe vom botanischen Garten, neben den Gleisen.

      Wir versuchen unser Glück am Caroline Bay. Es ist im Grunde ein öffentlicher Parkplatz, wo Camper erlaubt sind. Es gibt öffentliche Toiletten und Ab-/Frischwasser.
      Als wir ankommen ist der Parkplatz voll. Es stehen schon einige Camper dort, und auch"normale" Autos. Wir fahren zum zweiten Parkplatz, näher an Strand, und überlegen was wir machen. Auf dem zweiten Parkplatz ist campen nicht offiziell erlaubt. Wir laufen eine kleine Runde, ab in der Hoffnung, dass die Tagesgäste dann langsam wegfahren. Tatsache. Wir bekommen einen Platz. Alles aber ganz schön eng. Am Ende des Tages sind alle Plätze von Campern belegt.

      So, kochen. Es gibt ein "One Pot", Anglizismus für "Eintopf" 🤓, mit Karotten, Zucchini, Zwiebeln, Knoblauch und Nudeln in einer Kokos-Soße. Alles in einem großen Topf und 15min kochen.
      Der"große Topf" im Camper ist leider gar nicht so groß, sodass er bis zum Rand gefüllt ist. Das ist ein Spaß beim Kochen. Andreas hat seine Mühe, dass es nicht überkocht und eine Sauerei gibt. Das nächste Mal müssen wir definitiv die Menge reduzieren.

      Danach noch ein kleiner Spaziergang über nahegelegenen Strand.
      Bevor wir in's Bett gehen, duscht sich Katti mit der Kaltwasserdusche nochmal ab. Jaaaa, da freut sich ja der Kreislauf. Andreas begnügt sich mit dem Waschlappen und warmen Wasser im Camper. Kleine Frostbeule!🥶

      Schön! Frisch gewaschene Bettwäsche! 😊
      Andreas schreibt noch die restlichen Fotoprints während Katti schon eingeschlafen ist.

      Nichts spannendes am nächsten Morgen. Wasserwechsel am Camper, und danach in die Stadt.      Read more

      Relaxen in Timaru

      Heute Morgen habe ich in Oamaru am Hafen mit einem Frühstück entspannt den Tag gestartet.
      Später bin ich dann weiter nach Norden gefahren, immer dem Highway 1 an der Ostküste entlang.
      Mittags bin ich in Timaru angekommen, wo es direkt an den Strand ging. Dort habe ich in der Sonne ein Buch gelesen und mich später im Pazifik abgekühlt. Es gab hier sogar eine kostenlose (wenn auch relativ kalte) Dusche, was ich natürlich ausgenutzt habe. Im Camper habe ich mir dann mein Mittagessen gekocht und danach den ganzen Nachmittag das Buch weitergelesen, was ich am Abend dann durch hatte. Danach gab es noch einen Film und nun gehts zu Bett.

      Timaru

      I woke up to a cloudy sky and a grey day... it’s at least not as cold as yesterday anymore.
      And it should get better through the day, hopefully.

      After breakfast, I was leaving the campground and went to Timaru.
      When I came into Timaru a saw a sign for a Phar Lap Statue and of coarse, I was turning around and went there.
      I didn’t know that Phar Lap was actually born in Timaru in New Zealand!
      So that was a really nice and unexpected stop for me!
      I walk a little bit around in the city, it’s a nice little town. The lady from the I-Side was sending me to Caroline Bay where they have some free concerts today and a little Tivoli as well today.
      There is even a little birdhouse where you can go in and the birds are flying around you!
      I took a walk around the whole area and then a short stopover by the beach, but it’s still so cloudy and I then decided that it was time to leave and start to drive to Lake Tekapo.      Read more

      Mount Cook - Timaru

      Hoy vamos a abandonar la zona del monte Cook para ir terminando nuestro viaje. Hemos pensado en bajar hasta la ciudad de Timaru, ciudad costera del Este de Nueva Zelanda.
      Antes haremos nuestro último sendero en la zona, ya que vuelve a brillar el sol.
      Es la visita al Hooker Valley, en una caminata de 3 horas, ida y vuelta.
      A mitad del sendero, las nubes han cubierto el cielo, llueve, y la ventisca casi impide caminar, así que media vuelta y a la carretera.
      En el camino de vuelta pasamos de nuevo junto al lago Pukaki y llegamos a otro gran lago, el lago Tekapo, con una pequeña iglesia junto al mismo que se ha convertido en un icono turístico importante, a juzgar por la cantidad de visitantes en las inmediaciones.
      Contamos hacia Timaru donde nos recibe un temporal que casi hace imposible la conducción. Aquí nos quedaremos en un aparcamiento gratuito junto a la playa, en el que permiten hacer noche. Antes de la puesta de sol, el temporal ha pasado y podemos dar un paseo por la playa de Caroline Bay.      Read more

      Mossard - Mount Cook

      Hoy espera una buena cantidad de kilómetros, pero queremos llegar pronto al Monte Cook porque los pronosticos dan buen tiempo para hoy, mañana no se sabe.
      Subimos por la serpentea te carretera junto al lago Wakatipu y pasamos Lindis Pass, un paso de montaña donte el verde habitual cambia al marrón de matorral.
      Así llegamos al extremo sur del lago Pukaki, el más importante de la región, que nos sorprende con un azul intenso bajo el sol que brilla, de momento.
      Seguimos la ruta en paralelo al lago hasta llegar a Glentanner, ya cerca del monte Cook. Allí está nuestro camping, además del centro de operaciones de excursiones en helicóptero por la zona... Preguntamos por la disponibilidad y nos suben al último helicóptero de la tarde en un viaje alucinante de 20 minutos por las cumbres de los alrededores. El piloto hace una parada de 8 minutos en una de las cumbres, donde la nieve llega hasta las pantorrillas.
      Terminado el vuelo y antes de retirarnos al camping, seguimos hacia el Mount Cook Village para hacer un par de senderos, ya que el día lo merece. Uno de ellos nos proporciona unas vistas estupendas del Cook y el otro nos sube hasta el glaciar Tasman, donde se observan icebergs desprendidos de la lengua del glaciar.

      Die meiste Zeit des Tages haben wir heute auf dem State Highway 1 verbracht. Um die bisher längste Etappe zu bewältigen, haben wir unterwegs unter anderem einen kurzen Stopp in der Gore Bay eingelegt. Dieser lange Sandstrand ist umrandet von Felsen, den sogenanten Cathedral Cliffs. Die hellen Steine sehen in der Tat aus wie lange Säulen einer Kathedrale.
      Obwohl wir ansonsten nur schnell zum Essen angehalten haben, sind wir erst abends auf unsrem Campingplatz angekommen. Am Strand (Caroline Bay) der nahegelegenen Stadt Timaru wartete dort etwas Besonderes auf uns: nachdem wir in der Dämmerung oberhalb einer steinigen Böschung eine Weile gewartet hatten, ist erst ein und dann noch ein zweiter Zwergpinguin aus dem Wasser gewatschelt. Da die Pinguine hier ihre Nester haben, kehren sie jeden Abend zurück an Land, wo einige Freiwillige sowie Absperrungen die Tiere vor den neugierigen Touristen schützen. Es ist auf jeden Fall echt nett anzusehen, wie die Tiere an Land watscheln und dort ausgiebig ihr Gefieder putzen - so sind wir erst zum Campingplatz zurück gefahren, als es schon stockdunkel war und wir leider keine weiteren Pinguine mehr entdecken konnten.       16th night - Timaru

      Am Montag morgen frühstückten wir gemütlich am See und ich genoss den Ausblick auf das Wasser und die Berge sehr. Anschließend gönnte ich mir eine eiskalte Dusche und wir fuhren weiter nach Timaru. Dort entleerten und füllten wir Jasper mit Frischwasser, kauften uns einen Eiskaffee und fuhren zum Campingplatz. Dieser lag an einem Park mit Toilette und Kaltwasserdusche und nur wenige Schritte vom Strand entfernt.

      Am Abend aßen wir unser Dinner (Reis mit Gemüse) am Strand und tranken Wein. Ich schaute mir den Sonnenuntergang an und wartete auf Pinguine, die am Strand leben. Leider haben wir keine gesehen. Ich habe sie nur im Dunkeln erahnen können. Der Sand war sehr kalt und ich war froh, später endlich im warmen Bett zu liegen.      Read more

      Unsere erste Nacht im Camper verbrachten wir in Timaru, genauer gesagt in Caroline Bay. Dort fanden wir einen wunderschönen Abstellplatz direkt am Meer. Wir genossen das Strandleben und bereiteten ein wahres Gourmet-Nachtessen zu. ~ Spaghetti mit Tomatensauce.
      Timaru selbst war nicht sehr spektakulär, hatte jedoch herzige Cafes & Caroline Bay war wunderschön.      Read more

      Timaru

      The drive to here was pretty long and tiring so we were glad to get a spot at the freedom Camping zone. This one was situated right next to the Gardens and the beach. We had only planned to make a quick stop there overnight and then move on. By the time we got there the tourist information was already closed. So we decided to just park our van at the zone and then explore the town by foot.
      As we arrived there we encountered a sign with a penguin but didn't mind it all to much. But a little while later we found online that there are penguins supposed to be coming directly to the beach in the evening. And you can watch them for free, so we were pretty excited to do that later on. Until then there was quite a lot to see: The church built in the settlers architectural style, a Christmas fare, the beach...

      But the highlight was of course the blue penguin colony at night. When we got there around 9 there were already people waiting and also two officials who guided the people and told us that they usually come ashore as soon as it gets dark. Just a little while after that, we saw a small penguin jumping around the stone walls where their nest is located. We've been told that they scream for their parents. About 45 minutes later we were startled by a scream just a bit away from us, it were another two baby penguins! We were sitting just about two metres away from them! Overall we spent about 3 hours on the beach and the rocks watching the penguins. It was a really great experience to get so close to them!

      Exhausted and freezing we went back to our camper van and tried to sleep in. Unfortunately we woke up at 6 and couldn't fall asleep again so we decided to go on a tour to the Botanic Gardens. We tried out some playgrounds and visited the bird house with lots of exotic and native birds.      Read more
